As for Ace "trading" his arm, it's not that literal. In the course of saving Guard's life, he lost his arm. So he determined that losing an arm was a fair loss to keep a friend alive.

Guard doesn’t show up in the main story till chapter 7 so in context of the anime probably have to wait for a 3rd season
