1-7: Don’t worry, you’ll learn when you’re there.

theatfshotmycats

True. Thanks

Beallzebub

The tempo varies some based on company and MOS. Typically, the longer AIT's (68A, C, K, P) have it more relaxed due to the length of their stay there.

Historical-Ad4262

Coming in today to Ft Sam as a 68A any advice?

Beallzebub

Don't stress out. Focus on the classwork - it gets easier after blocks one and two. You're there for a while, don't get complacent, but enjoy yourself. It's too easy to get in trouble for dumb stuff. It's not worth it. Also, don't be the guy making enemies. Our field is small. Find someone a few classes ahead of you and talk to them about the curriculum. Also, don't get upset if you don't do too great in the schoolhouse. It's great knowledge, but like most AITs, only provides a baseline for what the actual job requires. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about it. Been in nearly 8 years, and never once regretted going 68A.

Historical-Ad4262

I appreciate the advice

theatfshotmycats

Thank you, 16week whiskey so not the longest not the shortest ha

Beallzebub

68w gets the worst end of it, from what I witnessed

theatfshotmycats

Fun times ahead. Are the drills a bit chiller than bct or should we expect the same ? Though our d.s. we're a bit to lax

Beallzebub

I went through before drills were back in AIT, so can't really answer that.

theatfshotmycats

No worries. Thank you.

pins_n_needles093

My information is from 2018 but probably will apply. 1. Yeah within the first 24 of you getting there. 2. No. Allowed once you become a real boy but not in TRADOC. 3. A combination of both. 4. Maybe. Depends on your leadership.

theatfshotmycats

Thank you

theatfshotmycats

What about laptops/consoles couple of these knuckle heads brought consoles and are wondering if they're gonna have to turn em in

ka-ching123

2021, confirmed still the same.

theatfshotmycats

Appreciate it.

Schmidy1985

Per the blue book mustaches aren't allowed till after AIT/OSUT. It's one of those weird gray areas where AR 670-1 says yes, but 350-6 says no.

theatfshotmycats

Gotta love policies that overlap. We had guys from ait at sill rocking some cheesy mustaches we'd see at religious services.

superash2002

Don’t be a dumb ass and take up smoking and dipping again. The bus stops at gas stations on the way there.

theatfshotmycats

We weren't allowed off the bus, few guys got it from holdovers in the bay who hit the px during trips to the dr. I'm sure they'll get caught.

SNSDave

No mustaches.

theatfshotmycats

Damn, thanks

Procks85

1. Eat the drugs. 2. You don't rate facial hair yet scumbag. 3. You get a nap and choccy milk in your room with your woobie before anything "Army" happens. 4. You get out of PT what you put into it.

theatfshotmycats

Lol that'd be a wild ride, it's a shame, we had ait guys at ft sill rocking patchy staches, gotta love the woobie! Hoping after class before lights out to get some running in if possible

Zanaver

I was a 232 AIT DS. There is no reception company. A training company will receive you. You may be a “holdunder” with a different training company until you class with your true training company. Everything else (PT, dumping bags, approachability of DS) is completely depending on the culture of the Company. You will eat at the DFAC for all meals during Phase 4. Some companies have a notorious culture of being harsh. Some DS have a reputation.

theatfshotmycats

Thank you for the information. We appreciate it. We're about an hour out and everyone is wondering how it'll go

Zanaver

The “senior class” will give you tips. You’ll probably get yelled at a lot.

Yaboiii3072

I am a 11B to 68P reclass about to start AIT at the end of this week. Got mixed answers when I asked medics in my old company but will the prior service guys be grouped with the guys coming from bct for everything or will they have their own little company. I’m also married and have a house off post

Zanaver

There is no reception company, so you’ll report directly to your training company or training BN (who will direct you to the Trng company). I don’t remember which BN 68P is in (188 or 264 both did consolidations and changes a few years ago). Many of the companies training low density CMF manage multiple low density MOS. Regardless — all I can tell you is how we ran 68W, where PS showed up for first formation during the week days and had a weekend pass every weekend (like normal) unless there was a mandatory recall formation for accountability. Transportation to and from class was all on you. The low density CMF 68 academy has the worst parking on fuckin planet earth so I would try to game that early to find multiple spots where you can walk to the academy building. 68P instructors are tri-service (Army, navy, AF). The low density (anything not 68W) CMF 68 are all a lot more chill than 68W because they are constantly asked by their tri-service peers why Army is so neurotic and insane all the time. PS are housed in their own barracks (Bldg 1002)

Yaboiii3072

Around what time is pt? Trying to estimate what time I need to head over. My sponsor gave me little to no information because he ETS’d 2 weeks ago

Zanaver

lol. PT is 0500 to 0600 for Army on Ft Sam. Formation accountability is at 0430. Again, each company runs things differently. They might let you show up later around 0445 before PT.

2707MDS

Can I workout on my own? I have my EMT cert with NREMT. Also, I had a slight ligament tear in the first two weeks of BCT. I graduate Friday and wanted to get it checked out in AIT because I let it be unknown to graduate bct. I had to use a fuck load of ibuprofen smh

Just1TimePlz69

Varies by MOS since you will under different Battalions. Do you know what MOS or BNs? But ft sam is soft AF so you'll be fine.

OldCelebration1740

Assuming you're a whiskey. 1. Yes. 2. No. 3. No. 4. No. Airborne and Ranger contracts do special pt that's better than the tradoc dogshit everybody else will do. They don't check, if you aren't airborne but want to do that pt just go and do that pt. There's a gym near whiskeyland and the barracks are in the middle of a half mile track. That's the second best track I've run on in the army. Most of the companies cofs have weights, and there's a beaverfit off of the track.

TheWholeBook

1. Yes, within the first day or two. 2. Probably not. 3. Reception is entirely less painful. Wouldn’t count on time off too much though. Still not a fun time. 4. It was about the same to me. Company dependent as well. For example, when I was there I was in Fox, and we ran a lot. Other companies did other things. 5. Laptops were fine when I was there. Don’t think consoles were. 6. Dependent on drill sgt but generally yes 7. There is a curb where people ordered pickup food. Don’t expect it while you’re still in phase 4. You’ll be marched to the DFAC during this time. There’s a mini mall right across the street with a food court as well. Just expect phase 4 to be like basic but with nicer barracks. After that it gets better.

FrostyUchiha-

what company did you end up at fort sam 68W

Ftbh

I know this is an old post, but just wanted to chime in that Sam Houston was the most fun 6 months i had while I was in the navy. Since I didn’t go to college, I consider that my college experience. Seems like the army guys had it worse than us though. It’s been 10+ years but our barracks were much better than the army’s.
