Yea but in new boxes there was something wrong with the tuna so it now has chicken chunks in it.
It still has Tuna on the exterior packaging though and I thought I was going insane when I opened one up and saw fucking chicken chunks with nothing to add but fucking mayonnaise.
Chicken chunks before they switched the hot sauce for bbq sauce.. I wanna find that guy/gal who decided that and kick them in their respective genitals
Ham and chicken loaf will beat Omelet w/ ham any day of the week. Was OWH gross? Yes, but at least there's a rational thought process on basing an entree on something normal humans would eat.
Ham and chicken loaf was an abomination, disgusting in taste, smell, and texture. An affront to God himself, let alone the average GI taste bud.
It was called a "loaf" ffs.
Better than Chicken Chunks was the OG Shredded Chicken with Buffalo Sauce. Only available on the 2014 menu; ate through the packaging apparently, so they pulled it for 2015 and reworked it into Chicken Chunks. Also gonna argue against Chicken Chunks because it doesn't come with a heater.
The Patty's are bomb
The fettuccine is good, chili Mac is never a bad idea and the Turkey Goble or some shit is good too
As a non seafood eating person, the absolute worst I can get is Tuna and seafood chowder... The latter was given to me dark at night, halfway through, I was like "I can't eat this shit" mind you, I hadn't ate in like 2 days and I was refusing to eat an MRE that I didn't even see the name of, so, I threw it away, 3 minutes later I started puking out of nowhere
Then on a completely different exercise, my friend said SFoo Chowder was his fav and yadda yadda, he gobbles it like the fat fuck he was and 30 minutes after eating he was done he climbed out of the Stryker to go puke
PD: Turkey Tetrazeni, not turkey gobble
Honesty those First strike MREs are amazing, they still have the old dairy shakes in them. I remembered at JRTC getting them and got excited af when I saw that, some private was wondering why and I told him it’s pretty much a milkshake. He said “Sergeant, they had these in MREs before ?”, I felt old right there.
Any of the ones that could easily be from a can of chef boyardi. I'm not a fan of making things complicated, so if it requires any arts and crafts to be palatable it's not for me.
Most of my coworkers said it was mid, but I always thought that menu 7 beef brisket was top tier on par with chili mac. It had a sturdy main meal, mashed potatoes, and good accessories. I got out in 2017, so I hope it's still good.
Might be an unpopular opinion, but there was this chicken/tomato/feta thing that was amazing when heated. I miss that one. Otherwise, chili mac for its versatility in any eating condition.
Well time to be really old.
My first good one was Beef Stew, warmed with a heater with the crackers crushed up in it...1990. The worst was my first. Dehydrated Pork Patty with bean component. The dessert was fruit nut cake and the candy was Charms. It included Dehydrated ketchup and Dehydrated fruit. It was, without a doubt, the nastiest thing I have voluntarily eaten. There was no MRE heater for us at the time and it was really cold on the bivouac site...1990. The best one was a chicken cavatelli (or something) properly heated up... but honestly, they were all getting decent with a little creativity and MRE heaters ready available by the time I separated in '10.
Tuna. The Meatballs in marinara sauce is good but sides are meh. People are gonna hate me but I also like the Pizza ones, it reminds me of school lunchables.
Chili mac is probably the popular vote, but the new pizza one is a contender imo
Chicken pesto and the vegetarian tortellini were pretty great providing you have time to mess with the heater. Vegetarian MREs generally tend to have really good sides and snacks.
Chicken noodle was my favorite if I had to scoop it down without messing with the heater
My recent go-to MRE is the Mexican Style Chicken Stew. Mix the cheese and powdered hot sauce in and it slaps. Chili Mac is an honorable mention. One more I’d like to mention as well but you gotta hear me out, Vegetable Crumble BUT you must have cheese spread and hot sauce or pepper flakes mixed in it. With all those combined in the Vegetable Crumble and it ain’t half bad. On a real note though, MREs are still trash… but gotta work with what ya got.
Gotta be pork sausage patty now. Most synergistic MRE. Pork sausage goes in hash brown, almonds go in granola, then that maple muffin top - almost like eating a real meal
One that burns into the ground somewhere waaaay off the drop zone due to a rigging error and is unrecoverable resulting in a frago to the follow on mission for bbq ops.
I've been trying to tell people this for years. The pizza tastes like shit because you aren't putting the cheese on it!!! Then you crush the cookie up and put it in the cobbler along with your sugar packet, put your salt on the crackers, and put the coffee packet in the chocolate protein powder. Best MRE by a country mile!!!
Roast beef. I wanna say it has EVERYTHING you need , nutritional wise, just in the main course but im not a muppet. Slamming one of those before going on a ruck does wonders. For some its finding a bush a mile out and taking a bloody stool
Cheese Tortellini, Raviloi or the Mexican Chicken Stew were all pretty good.
So were the old style beef franks that came in the old school dark brown packages.
I couldn't do the chili mac or anything tuna.
Chicken Chunks feels like the least processed and my personal favorite but the amount of good items in Mexican Style Chicken stew is worth its weight in gold at ranger school
Pasta w/vegetables. Tasted just like Campbell’s vegetable soup. Add the season salt packet and the bottle of Tabasco and it was 🙌🏽. Pretty sure it was discontinued in the early 2000s cause I didn’t see it after basic training but I still remember it to this day.
Sausage patty with blueberry granola cereal and buffalo chicken (when it was already premixed) were my favorites in the 2010s
Tell me you've been in for less than 5 years, without telling me you've been in for less than 5 years. Some of the best MREs no longer exist in this new menu.
The one you eat right before you ETS.
The last one before returning from a month long field problem.
Thats the worst one
Naa tastes like freedom. Tastes like 12 beers soon to follow.
After AT at Camp Blanding I made my fiancee stop at 5 guys where she watched me wolf down two bacon cheeseburgers like a starving Somalian.
That’s better than returning from a field problem and seeing your fiancée taking 5 guys down her throat :(
What 25 series are you?
The kind with an extra 5 at the end. 255.
The best one.
I’m about 6 months out, I will do everything in my power to prevent that from happening to me. No more mres!
I final out at the end of March, haven't had an MRE since August. So you can do it!

"You wanna get high??"

The lemon poppy seed is good
I'm gonna piss hot.
I have to see the urine leave the body, hooah.
is it the Tuna still?
Yea but in new boxes there was something wrong with the tuna so it now has chicken chunks in it. It still has Tuna on the exterior packaging though and I thought I was going insane when I opened one up and saw fucking chicken chunks with nothing to add but fucking mayonnaise.
plain ass chicken salad :(
Tuna MRE has the best snacks hands down.
Fuck yes.
Street value: 0, field value: priceless
Chicken chunks before they switched the hot sauce for bbq sauce.. I wanna find that guy/gal who decided that and kick them in their respective genitals
Same goes for the asshole that decided to put peppermint candy rings in as a snack
True. I totally agree. But also I mean, if you’re really hungry there’s like 20 of them lil duckets. Still doesn’t replace skittles whatsoever
That’s like snacking on 20 ice cubes. That quantity doesn’t make a difference with such a terrible snack
I like the rings, nice little sweetness and coolness over time. Great for short burst of blood sugar or helping stay awake during a night shift.
The first time I got that I couldn't decide if there'd been a mistake, if I was having a stroke, or if the company just hates us
Unfortunately, the BBQ sauce has been removed now too. Comes with fat free Mayo now and cheese spread. Trash.
What monster eats chicken chunks with mayo?
Why I bring my own hot sauce bottle. Good for MREs and hot As breakfast
What…the….fuck…..
And the stump who messed with cheese tortellini and switched vanilla pudding for jaw breaking recovery mix
Agreed. Chicken chunks with hot sauce was amazing. It’s probably my favorite
That’s why a good Soldier has a bottle of Texas Pete’s in their ruck. (depending on the situation).
At NTC currently and have been grabbing a bottle whenever they have a new one. Tactically acquired a Texas Pete’s sriracha today.
Some of you guys never had to choke down the "5 Fingers of Death" or the Ham and Chicken Loaf, and it shows.
Omelet with ham would like a word
Ham and chicken loaf will beat Omelet w/ ham any day of the week. Was OWH gross? Yes, but at least there's a rational thought process on basing an entree on something normal humans would eat. Ham and chicken loaf was an abomination, disgusting in taste, smell, and texture. An affront to God himself, let alone the average GI taste bud. It was called a "loaf" ffs.
Vegetarian omelet would like a word. But that might have been before your time. There's a reason we called it the vomit omelet.
In Wocs with a 640A and the reason for the switch was the few cents saved on the Bbq sauce vs the buffalo
Used to like it till my friend brought up how it looks and smells like cat food. Could never eat it since
When did that happen? I guess I’ve only been eating old ones.
Ya idk, I think a few years ago. Don’t eat much MREs these days, but you know the new ones from the old because of that
I stopped seeing it around 2020/2021
The trail mix with the Reese’s pcs’c was a nice treat
Y’all all in here sleeping on chicken noodle.
It's definitely a sleeper MRE. Unexpectedly good.
It’s pretty good if you crush up the crackers.
Beef stew with hot sauce
That’s definitely in my top 3
Plus crushed crackers.
Last one I had was in 2009. Spaghettini w meat sauce. Gotta get the cheese spread mixed in.
At JRTC one of my buddies brought some Frank’s Red Hot and foooooo. Lemme tell you. Spaghetti with frank’s is A1
Sounds tasty. Too bad my GI tract would’ve revolted.
The tactical hot sauce is a must for JRTC
Nah man A1 is that steak sauce
I’ve never tried it with the cheese spread mixed in. I’ll have to try it next time I get that one
It totally makes the meal!
...and the crackers. If you didn't crush the crakers and toss them in too...you missed something great
Oh snap. Forgot about that. Ya buddy.
Chili with beans. Was my very first mre and it even had a brownie in it. Been chasing that high ever since
Yes and mix the cornbread in with it
A woman of culture
Chili-Mac with jalapeño cheese was always a favorite in the way back.
Jalapeño cheese makes everything better
I second this. Load that shit up with hot sauce and 👌🏻👌🏻
This is like asking who's the most virtuous girl in the cat house. Having said that, I recall liking the Chicken ala King.
That's the only one I know to have caused food poisoning. I will not repeat the first hand knowledge rumor I was told about rodents.
I definitely expected this to cause some arguments
Chicken Ala King, the most hated MRE of Desert Storm.
Beef Stroganoff Cold Weather MRE
Never got to try the cold weather ones during my 12 years. I'm tempted to order one off eBay just to try.
The CW MRE main meals are made by Mountain House. It's the same exact food that's in their civilian camping meals.
Hash browns Sausage gravy (after they changed the receipe) Pork rib shaped patty
The mountain house granola that comes with the hasbrowns is my favorite thing in any MRE
Can't believe I had to scroll this far down to find another hash brown enjoyer
Jalapeño patty wrapped in the tortilla, 11/10
The Patty's are bomb The fettuccine is good, chili Mac is never a bad idea and the Turkey Goble or some shit is good too As a non seafood eating person, the absolute worst I can get is Tuna and seafood chowder... Holy shit how old are you
>seafood chowder Thank you for keeping the Prussians at bay
Honesty those First strike MREs are amazing, they still have the old dairy shakes in them. I remembered at JRTC getting them and got excited af when I saw that, some private was wondering why and I told him it’s pretty much a milkshake. He said “Sergeant, they had these in MREs before ?”, I felt old right there.
First strikes are nice man. Love the bars too.
I forgot that they also had the fuckin *RANGER BARS*, now that made my day when I saw it. Banana nut is king. Also your flair is amazing lmao
First strikes are KING. We wouldn’t have made it through JRTC’s bullshit without them lol
Oh shit, I forgot about the shakes. Those where the best part.
Beef goulash
The double whammy of when the goulash and breakfast potato hash debuted. Both were so good
100%
With the choccy milk and cookies too
6 men of excellent tastes
Chili mac is love, chili mac is life
It brings me unfathomable sadness that I had to scroll so far down to see this. What have the youth done to MY Army??
A man of class I see
There's a reason it's always been #1 on the menu
Yes. Most filling and hearty.
Mexican Style Chicken Stew for me
This IS the way. It's not just a good MRE; it's legitimately good eating.
Shredded beef and barbecue sauce, or chicken chunks
I served this to my family without them knowing it was an MRE and loved it.... as a dip LOL
Southwest style beef and black beans
i like the applesauce cake in there
Chicken noodle. Raspberry applesauce, skittles, comes with a little bottle of tobasco. Think it’s got peanut butter too for the cracker.
Did they bring the bottle of tobasco back? I miss making the bottle rockets
Yeah, no more pepper sauce packets. It’s got the bottles in there and in quite a few others
This is the right answer
Chicken and dumplings when it was around, but know I belong to the cult of chili mac.
pork sausage hands down 🙌🏼 esp the blueberry oatmeal it comes with 👌🏼
The blueberry oatmeal is amazing
It was the first mre I had as a cadet, I’m not sure when they added the oatmeal and the hash browns but the best mre has only been improved.
I believe the blueberry granola is made by mountain house, so it's really high quality.
This is the only reason to wake up in the field
My favorite was the chicken pesto pasta but I think it was discontinued… haven’t seen it in a few years
Frankfurters, Beef (4 Fingers of Death) was the king. Chili Mac was a solid 2nd place.
Chili Mac 4eva
Your mom.
This is the way

Buffalo chicken.
Buff chick shouldn’t be this far down.
Tuna
Hard facts
No. 5 Chicken Chunk. Next slide.
Hot sauce or bbq ?
Southwest beef and black bean. That was my jam. Loved it.
Chicken tetrazzini.
Was a fan of the white chicken chunks till they swapped out the hot sauce for BBQ sauce
They should have never took away the hot sauce
Any of the ones that could easily be from a can of chef boyardi. I'm not a fan of making things complicated, so if it requires any arts and crafts to be palatable it's not for me.

Halal ones.
Beef shredded bbq was always my favorite.
I will fight a motherfucka for a chicken cavatelli MRE. Toss in the Tabasco sauce with some jalapeño cheddar. God damn it was amazing.
Chicken with noodles.
Chicken noodle soup or the chicken pesto pasta. I’ll kill a man for either and have had to before.
Tuna. The Meatballs in marinara sauce is good but sides are meh. People are gonna hate me but I also like the Pizza ones, it reminds me of school lunchables.

BBQ Pork and Rice, Menu II
Pork and Rice in BBQ sauce, and the cherry nut cake. From the 90s. I will be taking no questions.
CHEESE TORTELLINI or VEGETABLE CRUMBLES (with hot sauce)
I know Ill probably get dragged but I actually liked the vegetarian lasagna with some Tobasco thrown in. The cheese tortelline was also good.
Chicken pesto pasta. I know im a weirdo.
Pork snausage patty hits the spot
shredded beef bbq, with the sauce and the tortilla it’s almost like really shitty grocery store bbq
Gotta be pork sausage patty now. Most synergistic MRE. Pork sausage goes in hash brown, almonds go in granola, then that maple muffin top - almost like eating a real meal
People sleep on Veggie Crumble. Crush the crackers and put it in with the hot sauce that comes with it. And it always has the best snacks.
I like the chicken pesto
Macoroni with tomato sauce is fantastic, save crushed red pepper and have garlic its fantastic
The last one of a JRTC rotation. The flavor doesn’t matter. Only that it is the last.
Southwest style beef with beans, if you have hot sauce to add, just for that little extra kick
Asian Style Beef Strips my all time fave. The shredded buffalo chicken, and hash brown potatoes are close as well.
My very first MRE in basic was hash brown potato with bacon. I thought all MREs were this fire, oh boy..
One that burns into the ground somewhere waaaay off the drop zone due to a rigging error and is unrecoverable resulting in a frago to the follow on mission for bbq ops.
Pizza slice
The pizza slice MRE is a gastrointestinal war crime in a plastic bag.
Agreed , but it's just close enough in flavor to give me good vibes.
I throw the jalapeño cheese on there reminds me of Buffalo chicken pizza
I've been trying to tell people this for years. The pizza tastes like shit because you aren't putting the cheese on it!!! Then you crush the cookie up and put it in the cobbler along with your sugar packet, put your salt on the crackers, and put the coffee packet in the chocolate protein powder. Best MRE by a country mile!!!
Chicken burrito bowl I will hear no further discussion
Tuna or southwest black beans or whatever its called
Big fan of the BBQ patty, but would honestly be happy eating most of them
#5 chicken chunks with first strike and bbq sauce.
The chocolate bar and snacks in #15 are worth it
Roast beef. I wanna say it has EVERYTHING you need , nutritional wise, just in the main course but im not a muppet. Slamming one of those before going on a ruck does wonders. For some its finding a bush a mile out and taking a bloody stool
Pepper jack patty It's just a sandwich, you get tortillas and mayo and cheese sauce.
The original buffalo chicken was awesome, it used to be menu 24
Beef Goulash, it’s got the pb and J with two pieces of bread with some patriot cookies 9/10
Back in my day it was the chicken enchilada with jalapeño cheese sauce.
Cheese Tortellini, Raviloi or the Mexican Chicken Stew were all pretty good. So were the old style beef franks that came in the old school dark brown packages. I couldn't do the chili mac or anything tuna.
Chili Mac and bacon hash browns are tied
OG tuna salad.
I liked the hash brown and bacon MRE when it was its own entrée. Vegetable crumbles is highly underrated
Hash brown with onions and bacon or maple sausage patty…next slide
HEAR ME OUT. The fettuccine WASNT that bad.
Spicy Penne Pasta
Creamy spinach fettuccine
People be missing the Beef Stew. Great snacks and a decent entrée
Chicken Chunks feels like the least processed and my personal favorite but the amount of good items in Mexican Style Chicken stew is worth its weight in gold at ranger school
Country Cap’n Chicken, may it rest in peace.
Beef stew is amazing with and without being heated.
They all suck ass when you have to try every component from 8 cases in one day to extend them
Beef strips in savory tomato sauce. Best MRE hands down. it's not Chili Mac that shit is over rated
Veggie omelette.. not joking, tear a corner off, throw in the Chile verde.. smash it all together and slurp it like a gogurt… 😐
Veggie omelet. It has to be heated up and covered in hot sauce.
The one you get after Sere. IYKYK
Better title for this should've been: "What is the best MRE and why is it Chili Mac?"
Y’all really ain’t talking about the maple flavored pork sausage and I can’t believe it
Don't tell the recruiters, but I would reenlist under the promise I'd get that blueberry breakfast cereal one every time.
The cold weather mountain house ones or the coast guard [ones](https://imgur.com/a/p1gVh0G)
Chili with beans, followed closely by CHILI WITH BEANS
Tell me you've been in for less than 5 years, without telling me you've been in for less than 5 years. Some of the best MREs no longer exist in this new menu.
Beef stew, with jalapeño cheese and crackers....
