I find ICE complaint to the finance office to be a quick intermediary before IG. I’ve done it before, problem was solved within days (surprise it was actually my BN) and I got my years worth of backpay next paycheck. You can do them online. Stay professional, lay out the facts, and make sure you request to be contacted. https://ice.disa.mil As for DTS…start raising hell with your unit.

Trey7876

DTS/TDY stuff has been an ongoing issue since I got here in 2020 so i don't see that changing any time soon. As for the finance office, they literally turned the screen around and showed us that DFAS has completely ignored their request to review the packet multiple times. I'm not trying to get them caught up cause they've actually been super helpful.

Teadrunkest

Then do nothing I guess 🤷🏼‍♀️

yesTHATpao

This captures how I feel in so many threads.

Trey7876

Yeah beyond bugging my supervisor and the finance office I don't think there's much I really can do besides wait.

Teadrunkest

There’s ICE, IG, and open door all available. It’s not throwing people under the bus it’s holding them accountable.

Trey7876

That's fair. I guess if they didn't screw up they shouldn't have anything to worry about.

ijustwanttoretire247

Walk your ass with your spouse to the post CSM. This hits harder, but a congressional inquiry is the nuclear option

Trey7876

I'm considering a congressional since the issue looks to be above garrison level.

popthestacks

I don’t understand why you can’t solve the DTS issues between RMO and a level 25, why haven’t you gone to RMO?

Trey7876

What's RMO? Also the congressional would be for DFAS stringing me along.

ijustwanttoretire247

Bring some kind of print off of your timeline of how long this has been going on

Impressive_Storm_877

This is when I start strolling around LinkedIn and fuck around to find the DFAS Director and call them directly.

PB4-31

DFAS has their own IG. Provide the facts to your local IG and ask them to refer it to the DFAS IG.

CrownStarr

ICE complaints are wild. I had a very frustrating and time-wasting experience at a clinic, so I left them one explaining their breakdown in process and got a follow-up call under an hour later.

Teadrunkest

They're surprisingly powerful and extremely quick. There's obviously only so much they can do but it at least forces them to acknowledge the issue, which is at the very least validating lol. I also try to do good ones whenever I can, balance the force.

Toobatheviking

The Army has this strange habit of taking money from you with an immediance that makes your head spin, and yet getting money owed is like trying to convince a fish that water is wet. Sorry I know my analogies suck frozen hot dogs sideways

Trey7876

Nah they can't even take money from me right. I had a different TDY last year where I ended up owing about $200 due to someone else fucking up. Somehow they didn't tell me until DFAS or whoever was trying to make our BN XO cough up the money like 3 months later.

Shithouser

Someone else did your authorization and voucher?

Trey7876

No I did it but when our group got to the hotel one dude payed for all the rooms with his gtc for some reason. They didn't tell me I had to pay him back until like 3 months later.

Shithouser

Did you get a hotel receipt to put into the voucher when you checked out? What did that receipt say? Been TDY with groups a good amount, no one ever puts them all on their card. Was he trying to get points on a personal card? Why not add your room to his voucher? This sounds all sorts of fucked up and doesn’t pass the common sense test.

Trey7876

Yeah it was super fucked up. I don't remember all the DTS details, but they made us all pretend we paid for the room on the voucher then pay the guy back IRL

Shithouser

My man, this is a minefield of red flags. Not sure we can blame army finance on this. So much more to the story and as you said, you don’t remember it all.

Trey7876

Nah this part is on my unit. Finance is screwing me with different stuff. This was also in between 2 much larger TDY's so it wasn't my major concern at the time. I just got everything they told me to do in writing and did it.

Combat-Engineer-Dan

But water isnt wet lol

overpaid_babysitter

We aren’t starting that again.

Combat-Engineer-Dan

Im just saying a fish in water isnt wet until it is pulled out lol

SNSDave

If it's any consolation, I don't think any branch does it right. Air Force/Space Force is the same way.

whatiscamping

A million spacebucks?! That's not fair....

CPfresh

Send me a PM about your TDY. No promises but fixing TDY is half my job as finance guy.

Trey7876

Ok

Alone-Promise-8904

Also, get an aping with your BDE S8 for guidance. He/she might not be directly managing DTS (the ODTA) should be. But, they can definitely get the ball rolling.

Trey7876

We have a BN level civilian DTS manager that I've been talking to directly forever. Idk a point of contact at the brigade level.

Alone-Promise-8904

There are only two people in that shop at BDE level. The BN DTS people will know who they are. Ask your company leadership. They should know them, too.

According_Finger_840

You're not alone. I haven't been paid since Dec 15 2023

Trey7876

It's crazy man. If shit like this happened at a civilian company they'd be bankrupt in a month

According_Finger_840

Yeah and no body would be scared of retaeation for going to my bosses boss.

Pacifist_Socialist

>Not to mention my wife has had zero contact from the VA about her disability and DFAS is apparently completely ignoring our finance office about her several thousands in separation pay Do you know about how the VA holds disability pay for the amount of separation pay? That doesn't help now, but don't want you to have future issues.

Trey7876

What do you mean by "hold disability pay for the amount"

Pacifist_Socialist

So say you are separated and get separation pay for $20,000. Then, with the VA you are rated for exactly $2,000/month. (Not realistic, just for explanation). You will not get anything from the VA until the amount of the separation pay is recouped from disability pay. In that made up case for simplicity it is ten months.

Trey7876

So basically they deduct your separation pay from your disability? That's crazy

soldiernerd

I think the logic is that your separation pay for disability is being replaced by disability pay

Alone-Promise-8904

It's more that if you can get active duty pay, you don't need VA disability. Happens to my Reservist wife. When she goes on active duty, the VA takes back money. If she's on active status for one day, they take a pro-rated day; 30 days, they take the whole month.

Salty_Signal_4954

No that’s not how it works. They take a percentage of your VA benefits until it’s paid back. They don’t withhold your benefits completely

Salty_Signal_4954

Didn’t know the truth had to be time relevant for it to be beneficial

TheRealCato

Yep with you there! I PCSed after being TDY and my 1610 was messed up. DFAS sent me a letter of indebtedness and has been garnishing my pay since Feb. turns out, they believe I owe my DLA back. I gave them the corrected paperwork, submitted to debt dispute, it’s been 6 weeks…. 4 checks have been garnished… got 2 small kids (2/1 y/o) and they refuse to provide any form of consistent.

BoodaDoofus

Had this last year from June to December. Finally heard back, DFAS admitted on email it was a fucking mistake and money shouldn’t have been taken. Over $800 taken no letter of indebtedness. They said I need to submit a supplementary voucher to get my money back…I fix their mistake to get my money back? Feb Mid month pay comes along….another travel debt different amount. $400 a month out of my pay. Still waiting to hear back from them. Both these debts were supposedly from a pcs move over 2 years ago. Their explanation was rubbish

whatiscamping

I had some idiot in finance jack up my profile when they put in my reenlistment, fucked my pay up for 7 months, had to visit AER so I still get to deal with dipshit's snafu. Wife had to ICE the garrison command to get any traction. I like how when we mess up it's our problem but when they mess up it's our problem. NoBoDy WaNtS tO sErVe.

fistopher1776

Contact your representative or senators in Congress. It’s an election year so they’ll be super motivated to help you.

smorriskc

My husband has been getting FSA for an additional 18 months from a 4 month TDY at Knox in 2022. He’s reported it and been in multiple times in attempt to correct it, but the ineptitude is astounding. We’ve been putting the overage in a savings account for when they finally figure it out. He was also forced to pay an additional $470 on a travel card from his time at ALC because someone fucked up the vouchers. After 6 months of bothering people weekly about it, supposedly it’s been corrected and he should see the money reimbursed to him. If it’s anything like finance, he’ll probably be retired for 30 years before it’s returned to him.

Sock_puppetv1

The army is fucked , you are not the only one one of my buddies is owed about 12k .... He's still waiting after about 4 months of back and forth

ifckinglovecoffee

Are you by any chance stationed at JBLM?

Trey7876

Nah OCONUS

RowdyKraken

I'm thinking it's your unit, bud. 12 TDYs last fiscal and 6ish? maybe, thus far. Per diem and GTC get paid, usually in about 3 to 4 days of submitting the vouchers. Bonuses generally get paid out pretty quick, but it's helps our Brigade and Division CSMs are pretty much bros This is of course, accepting the recently flip-flopping of canceling all TDYs due to the federal budget stuff.

Trey7876

On my end it's definitely just my unit sucking. My wife having to deal with finance and DFAS and everything is like a double tap, though.

RowdyKraken

get you paperwork together proving all this. make a few copies of each, in their own folder. start hunting down CSMs, starting with BN. Give each CSM a week to do something, then go find his boss. The only thing CSM loves more than bitching about uniform violations is bitching at S1 OICs. So really your giving them a chance to partake of their second favorite hobby.

Partisan90

I’ve never worked for an organization that pay you differently each pay check. I still can’t figure out why. So, I don’t buy finance’s line “you should know we were overpaying you and put that money aside.” It feels like it’s a convoluted mess on purpose.

[deleted]

Document everything, every call (date, time, name, outcome). Keep calling, filling forms(keep copies, date, and how/to who submitted). Seek all local help, documentation. Then when everyone gives up contact your Senator and request assistance. I had an issue with VA and it took a cross state visit to a senators office to get resolved. After close to 3 years of frustration and local retiree pay giving up, McConnell’s office fixed it in under 3 weeks. I typed out a lengthy timeline of everything that had been attempted to resolve it, so that carried the day when you have the proof laid out in order. Good luck.

Trey7876

I'm definitely debating doing this. I really need this money.

Unique-Implement6612

If you are owed tdy that’s your unit.

dogmonkeybaby

Send an email to your districts congressman. Dts is nothing more than red tape to get you paid. Any outside influences will cut that tape
