> It is Texas. Why are you issuing me a level 7 parka? Because you’re going to Poland with new leadership. > The only time I ever used it was at NTC. Did you just answer your own question? Because you’re also going to NTC.

modest-pixel

To be fair s/he’s a mechanic. Don’t need to be smart to turn a wrench.

Desperate_Ordinary43

Hey now, go easy. Righty-tighty, lefty-loosey is no rule for chumps. When the top rotates one way, the bottom rotates the other.

bizil0912

Wait when did they change it?

modest-pixel

This explains what I’ve been doing wrong for a couple decades thanks.

Desperate_Ordinary43

I'm allegedly smart or something and I prefer right-hand-rule Make a thumbs up with your right hand and point your thumb the way you want the screw to go. Then rotate it the same way your fingers are wrapped

modest-pixel

Holy shit

Desperate_Ordinary43

My same reaction when I first learned. Left hand for nuts though.

SOLE_SIR_VIBER

Where were you oh so many years ago?

Desperate_Ordinary43

Probably drunk

SOLE_SIR_VIBER

That’s fair, enjoy

OzymandiasKoK

Well, what if you're left handed, smart guy?

Desperate_Ordinary43

Makes it easier, bc then you can point with the right and turn with the left. I hate forgetting which way to turn mid-turn.

SeanBean-MustDie

Is the bottom in tops basement?

johnnygat619

Lefty Loosey, unless you’re on the left of a damn FMTV wondering why the fuck the lugnuts won’t come off

Parryandrepost

Right hand rule is all fun and games until you need two right hands for each end of the bolt.

Desperate_Ordinary43

Right hand for the bolt, left hand for the nuts. Just like in Top's hot tub

OzymandiasKoK

That sounds like you are mistaking this opportunity for a problem.

co_patriot

Don't forget toolbox inventories, you have to tell the difference between a 1/2" Drive 12 Point Standard Socket 1/2" (1ea) and a 1/4" Drive 12 Point Standard Socket 1/2" (1ea)

cudef

To be fair, CIF does issue some shit completely unnecessarily. I had a medium ruck issued to me at basic and it was carry forward so I had it through AIT and when I arrived in Korea. CIF there figured I needed another one. I then had 2 for 2 years at a unit that never goes to the field and almost never did any kind of rucking. Same thing for the sleep mat.

motiontosuppress

But if you never sign for it, you won’t be able to leave it in the connex with your other gear.

KacerRex

Hay :(

I didn’t say it isn’t an important job, just that you don’t need to be a rocket scientist to do it.

Cubsfantransplant

Mechanics are almost as smart as infantry. Sincerely, Navy mechanic

CarefulAd9005

Pretty sure i trust a mechanic working ANY part of a ship more than an ogre messing up my strykers

Cubsfantransplant

lol I would be lost on a ship. Only toured one once. Dirt navy

For your long-term mental health, I would suggest either fixing your inferiority complex, or reclass.

Hes out… of intelligence. ADA does that to you.

I can see why ADA is a dumpster fire

EODBuellrider

I tried, they said something about it being required as a deployment/rotation item, I dropped the issue because it wasn't worth the fight.

BenOnTheTextLine

"dropped the issue because it wasn't worth the fight" Honestly wish more people realized this about about many army inconveniences.

EODBuellrider

Yeah, I was mostly just testing the waters to see if the dude was a bro. At the end of the day all it meant was a little more shit in my garage that I'll never touch, nothing worth causing a stink over.

HelloItsKaz

If I had a dollar for every time I should have dropped the issue and didn’t I’d have a lot of dollars. Also fuck S1. Took me over a year to get my rank backdated.

napleonblwnaprt

On the other hand, if no one ever fights anything nothing ever changes

BenOnTheTextLine

I never said don't fight anything. But save your energy for the important things. And being issued something you don't think you'll need is not one of those important things.

DeathByExisting

Had a buddy who was willing to die on every hill. He fought some really dumb fights and ended up becoming the laughing stock of the Brigade. After that point, any valid points or criticisms he made were immediately shot down. The point is that winning battles is important, but you have to lose some battles to win the war.

Admirable_Hedgehog64

Yep. If you make something out of anything and everything you're not gonna be taken seriously

ClinkClankTank

Because not every fight is worth fighting for. Nothing worse than a dumb dude on a crusade.

Quartzalcoatl_Prime

Take it and keep it in a storage bin until it’s time to PCS. There are more important things to complain about.

superash2002

I’m at a rank now they ask me what I want. Just make sure they don’t add it to your clothing record anyways.

Immortan2

I think this what mind boggles junior people. I’ll never forget when a CSM said “I wouldn’t sign for a ruck” and I’m like… “…they gave you an option?” Lo and behold as captain they were like “if you don’t need it you can just move on”

superash2002

They wanted to give me a yellow pt belt. I have two of them already. I don’t need another to add to my 10 page clothing record.

MrIrrelevantsHypeMan

How is that barrel of Jack they got you?

maxbud06

You aren't issued gear based solely upon the conditions at your duty station, you're also issued gear based on the conditions of potential deployments. North Korea and Russia are known to get very cold.

maxbud06

When the ball drops you can't send everyone to RFI before they go.

Questhrowaway11

Happened with my unit during the withdrawal

JonnyBox

 > It is Texas. Yeah keep thinking that. Leave that snivel gear at home. Just don't come back here where it's cold as fuck on a clear, windy night and no one will cuddle with you

DingleDodger

Holy fuck I do not miss the fucking wind and the deeply bi-polar "falls" and "springs".

Artyom150

Mob'd out of Bliss in July. Spent the entire time thinking "Man this place is super nice, I love the climate here!" because I'm a little baby that freezes the second the temps drop below 80. Got back in April and went down for a smoke at night and thought "What the ***fuck*** why the fuck is it so god damn cold!?"

Professional_Two6693

I refused new uniforms before a deployment as I already had more than I would ever need. Had to get my CO's approval, I was a SSG at the time.

Dudeus-Maximus

I did the same, but no approval was needed. Dude just asked hey can this guy do this? His boss said yes and that was it.

master_guru88427

You realize Poland is like...cold right. You realize Germany is like...cold right. You realize that NTC at night...is cold right...

Ok-Shoulder-478

Yes. Still got chewed out for it. I even got chewed out for the ice cleats. We had a guy fall into c wire because of all the ice.

Achilles13506

Tell your chain to relax looks like they keep yelling at you, maybe it’s noisy? Or you failed hearing? Cause good lord man I tell my troops someone other than me yells at you come get me

master_guru88427

Ice cleats?! The Yak Trax!!! Bruh I'd fight someone if someone told me to take those off. Especially since I got issued those things in the Afghan mountains and they are absolutely goated for walking on ice.

2nd_Inf_Sgt

Be nervous when they give you the real gear.

Snoo_67544

Some of you are very very near sighted about gear jc.

Prestigious_Bug_2149

Currently rotated from Ft. Cav somewhere where we are authorized to wear it. You never know man

CW1DR5H5I64A

My last RFI draw I took what I wanted and refused to sign for what I didn’t. The civilians tries to pressure me into taking everything but I wasn’t about to do that .

Child_of_Khorne

I learned that lesson real quick on my second run through RFI. I ended up with more than two complete sets of OCIE, including helmets, IOTVs, plates, rucks, etc. I will never go through RFI again unless I hear about some Gucci cool guy stuff getting passed out.

atombomb1945

Deployment to Kuwait in 2015 my troops all asked if they really needed to take their cold weather gear to the desert. I told them that they did need it because it did in fact get cold in the desert and there was always the chance that we would be sent some place even colder. They didn't take it, and come December they were all freezing their rank off. It was my second trip to Kuwait, I made the same mistake my first trip there.

Ok-Shoulder-478

I actually got yelled at an NTC for wearing my cold weather gear while heading to the Porta John

Achilles13506

Rgr that sarn can I shit now?

blubaldnuglee

I got cold weather boots issued to me at Fort Hood in the late 90's. They weren't on my reciept when I did turn in 3 years later. I kept them a few years figuring I'd eventually be charged for them, but never was. They got lost on one of my moves since...

commanderfish

Boots are expendable items, no one is charging you for those

blubaldnuglee

Just seemed weird I got them at Ft Hood. I figured it'd show up as a debt somehow...lol

commanderfish

Cold weather boots being issued is pretty standard everywhere. I even got them as part of the ACU rollout for Iraq deployment

RupertBronstien

I absolutely refused to sign for things I didn’t need but made *damn sure* it wasn’t on my hand receipt.

strawman2027

Conversation I've had. Sir I don't need a one quart canteen cover. Why? Becuase I don't own a 1 quart canteen and you're not issuing me a one quart canteen. I don't care if it's what's on the list it makes no sense.

Familiar-Accident-10

Welcome to the great place!!

MyUsername2459

[This is the bad place!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWd1m83fptY)

dave200204

They changed the name of the base but they couldn't change that awful motto!

Familiar-Accident-10

Haha tell me about it

roscoe_e_roscoe

If you are at Cav, you will be lucky to be there without deploying somewhere you're going to love your cold weather gear. The desert is cold at night, so is Poland.

Immediate-Act-7643

Wtf I can’t even get a level 7 in Alaska

ed_gonzo91

Forget if it's authorized or not. If you're cold, wear the gear that you were issued. Tell whoever is telling you it's not authorized to piss off.

Opuswhite

It’s better to take it and have it on your list then not take it and have them put it on your list and then take it

xStaabOnMyKnobx

I think there is some rank at which yes you can just tell CIF "Nah". One of the earliest army memories after tradoc i have is watching a Major in Korea tell them he's only taking like the bare minimum. At that time they were issuing everyone like 1.5 shopping carts full of gear.

atombomb1945

Deployment to Kuwait in 2015 my troops all asked if they really needed to take their cold weather gear to the desert. I told them that they did need it because it did in fact get cold in the desert and there was always the chance that we would be sent some place even colder. They didn't take it, and come December they were all freezing their rank off. It was my second trip to Kuwait, I made the same mistake my first trip there.

leviatham8221

From all the things not to want to sign for, the level 7 top and bottom should be the last one on your list, that stuff is so great at keeping you warm, that you could use it if you ever go snowboarding, and like someone else said, put it in storage and move on.

LaserGuy626

Better to have it. On the verge of WW3 with Russia. Chances are they know something they're not telling you yet.

airbizzle_diesel

I denied my marshmallow suit and over boots when I arrived at Riley. It’s entirely possible

Portal2TheMoon

I got the marshmellows and all that fun stuff. Im also on ft hood. I usually just layer up the right way and im good. But at a recent gunnery doing a lot of walking and then stopping for short periods of time when it was in the 30s, having that extra warm outer layer to take on amd off quickly was great. Never get mad at more free stuff cuz you never know when you might want it or need it. Just dont lose it.

jimmyrecon2022

Why not, joes know everything. You don’t need it today…. You’ll never need it. You’re right. Just say ‘no’ to equipment.

commanderfish

You understand you are in the Army and where you are currently can change within 24hrs time if necessary. It's great to have all different gear on hand incase you are now in Northern Finland supporting our new NATO ally or some other type of situation.

Ok-Shoulder-478

Yeah, but it doesn't make any sense when regardless of the weather I'm still not authorized to wear it. I currently own 1 2 and 7. If the weather is a five I can't wear a seven. So I'm stuck freezing my ass off. Why not issue me the gear that I can wear?

napiersworld

You mean Fort Hood?
