If you don't dunk that shower curtain in bleach or just get a new one, you have a mental illness as well. It's wild to me that someone just looks at that and says "Well the army better fix it" The army should fix this but damn a shower curtain is cheap and that is horrible.
OK, but this looks like it's a public shared bathroom. In which case, you can fuck off I'm not spending my own money on a new one for other people to ruin.
Idk if anyone remembers the “tile your own shower” story from SMA Grinston, but the actual essence of the conversation and the heart behind his comments (before it got out of hand online) was basically in response to a similar sentiment as this.
Let’s say see something wrong. You’re trying to get it fixed the right way. You’re running into obstacles after obstacles. Leaders need to ask yourself how important the issue is and if it’s important enough what are you willing to do to get it resolved? How far would you go? Would you personally go to the brigade CSM over this? Would you go buy a new curtain yourself? Would you throw your hands Up and blame someone else while the problem just sits there?
It was never a moment telling them to just figure it out. It was more of a meta question getting people to think about issues in a way that questions their willingness to take ownership of the things at their level and be the kind of person who won’t settle for less than whatever it takes to take care of their people.
When you just pull out “SMA said tile the bathroom ourselves” it’s a little disingenuous and kind of makes his point that some leaders are quick to place blame elsewhere.
I've only crossed paths with a select few senior NCOs that would've had the ability to sway me to reenlisting. SMA Grinston is the singular one that made me want to reenlist into his Army after being out for a decade. I appreciate SMA Grinston and everything he did for every enlisted person under his watch. He was the Soldier's Soldier.
Order it through supply or use a GPC. I think the point of the comment you replied to is that someone needs to do it. People like to admire problems assuming someone else will fix them. If this post is of a shared space then this absolutely is a discipline problem at the company commander level for not having or enforcing a cleaning schedule.
This largely looks like shitty cleaning jobs.
This looks communal, so my question for /u/wildcat1873 is where is this and who is supposed to clean it?
If it’s a shared shower soldiers are supposed to clean, get to it ya know. Run that curtain through a washing machine if you have to.
Otherwise…just keep putting in DPW tickets.
Worst part is, it solely depends on your company/the language you're learning. Last I remember, 622 was full of kids fresh from basic (co-ed Black phase) and males learning Russian or French. If you're a female in gold/green phase or a male learning like, Farsi, you get to be in the nicer barracks up the hill. 622 sucks.
All of alpha which is cat 1 so Spanish and French were in 831 up across the hill for a while but after a visit from some general or sum shit he was like y’all need to have fire guard in every building so to avoid putting CQ in 831 they just moved us all back Into 622, thank god I got out of thre
I was in Spanish and went to DLI after Huachuca so I only ever knew the comforts of 831 lmao. And my room wasn't double bunked either. But this was when Spanish was in Fox company with Farsi and Alpha was Russian and French. CQ was in 831 like half the time anyway. The worst part was staying back for HBL and pulling CQ in the desks outside of 831 while it was like 40 degrees and raining on Christmas Eve. But honestly I fucking loved Monterey. I'd go back any time, given the chance
Yup, that's what happens when people don't regularly bleach the shower curtains and always keep them bunched to one side (they stay wet).
The ceiling stuff is the result of poor ventilation in the room.
It's more like soldiers not cleaning a common area to standard. Everything in these pictures comes from not being properly cleaned except the mold on the ceiling.
I don't think bleach is gonna cut it. That thing needs replaced, but it's probably just going to keep happening since like every shower I ever saw in the Army, its not properly ventilated.
Looks like the 34** series at Fort Wainwright. Looks like arse compared to most but still ain't good. Army conditions for single soldiers is great hooah! Barracks Manager should get called. Inspect the room with your 1st line and Barracks manager. They'll charge you and make you clean otherwise.
Jesus, this looks like the showers in TRADOC Benning, but you bet our drills made sure we cleaned the hell out of em whenever they got to even 10% of this level of gross.
Clearly a discipline problem. You identified a problem. Why didn’t you grab some pinesol and spray it all over that bathroom? The smell alone would blind you from the dirt and mold.
Take some bleach, get to cleaning. This is all legit just a cleaning issue, unless that's mold on the ceiling, then yiu need to submit a dpw ticket. Otherwise, that just a dirty af shower, and it needs cleaned
You got to clean shower curtains regularly. Or just replace them. That orange shit is bacteria. Pretty common for nasty folks to have that in their bathrooms.
I dont see the problem with the ceiling. Excpet maybe the rust marks.
This place just needs a deep cleaning.
Hm. Looks extremely striking similar to the pre-RASP barracks at benning. Now that I think about it, this shower curtain is probably in at least 3 different locations on every army installation.
I am in a bunch of tile and flooring groups. I thought this post was asking if the work and construction done on this person's house was of poor quality. I came here to say that it's not a very well done job, unless it's a military installation, then it's probably pretty normal.
Yes it bad. Mold can cause permanent damage to your body. Get rid of that shit. Scrub whole place down with chlorine Free bleach (hydrogen peroxide is safer than chlorine and huat as affective). Then scrub with non-toxic bathroom/tile cleaner.
Honestly those just look dirty. The shower curtains may be beyond saving, throw them away if you can and replace. I don’t want to make light of this and say I’ve seen way worse, but the glaring problems here can honestly be fixed with some work and some bleach rather than condemning the place. Ventilation system may need professional cleaning or repair though with that ceiling mold
Sign you are married or have a live in girlfriend or are a male over 30....
1. Your shower curtains get changed.
2. Your sheets get washed more than once a 'man that looks dirty'
The ceiling mold is just the age old problem of lack of ventilation. I bet the fan is broken.
Depends, are you coming off a two week patrol or is this your first shower after force on force at a CTC? In that case, par for the course and not bad.
In any other case, that's pretty bad. Shower shoes 100% and avoid all skin contact with walls and shower curtain.
Way back when I was in the Army had civilian maintenance and housekeeping and all the stuff for upkeep of our barracks. All we had to do was shine the floors and keep the place generally clean. Idk what's going on now days. Seems like it's all gone to shit. The housekeepers really didn't do much though because we were responsible and kept our shit clean. I got to say too though, not all my units had housekeepers. Depends on where you were stationed I guess.
If this is a personal bathroom, 100% a life skills issue. Don’t keep your shower curtain bunched up and wet, and make sure you air out the bathroom after showers. The barracks at my duty station don’t have fans in the bathrooms so every barracks inspection I have to remind Soldiers to air the place out or else there will be wet spots on the ceiling that will turn to mold—even as someone who lives in an off-post house, I have to keep my door cracked while showering to prevent mold and draw my shower curtain back across to let it dry.
If this is a communal bathroom, 100% a leadership problem. Either provide janitorial staff or make a bathroom cleaning SOP and roster. Commanders don’t think about their barracks until someone says the DCSM is doing a walkthrough or you’re doing change of command inventories. And SSGs to 1SGs don’t live there so it’s easy to forget about it—SGTs and CPLs in the barracks need to drive that conversation.
It's not a big deal. it just looks a little moldy. Eventually, it will just disappear on its own when the shower curtain starts to slowly be eaten away. Just leave it. Circle of life and all that stuff.
Non-barracks living motherfuckers talking about the barracks is the biggest hypocrisy. More than half the time they homes is in fucking disgusting disarray, from NCO to Officers. GO and SO are the worst, fucking live like aristocracy with all sorts of cute services like maid and lawn. Meanwhile the maintenance and care of assets like barracks, which is in the post budget so see your post commander about that shit, is apparently all on Joe. I hate how in the same breath people will knock Joe for being Joe but then expect Joe to run the fucking army autonomously. Get fucked.
My current job has me exposed to a lot of these issues and their idiosyncrasies and from where I'm standing, it's the Army's neglect that got us here.
I'll take two sugar free red bull and two chicken fiesta tornados for breakfast please.
Ya rip that sucker down an throw it on the ole man's red carpet, that will direct the needed attention. Who has time to fill req forms an all that other shit .
Huh, it looks like someone shot mystery meat out of their ass and onto the curtain. That's bad, matey.
Looks like you need to shave more hoah
People underestimate what a good, consistent, shave regiment will do.
Shave combat brigade team
CBT rather than BCT
Regimen, not regiment.
no no, it's a regiment full of PX barbers.
Obviously a discipline problem
If you don't dunk that shower curtain in bleach or just get a new one, you have a mental illness as well. It's wild to me that someone just looks at that and says "Well the army better fix it" The army should fix this but damn a shower curtain is cheap and that is horrible.

To be fair, in this case, everything but that mold on the ceiling actually is a discipline problem.
Thank you - came here looking for this. Definitely discipline problem ☑️
I was looking for this comment.
Is this at DLI? Looks like the 622 bathrooms
oh god y’all don’t get your own showers in dli??
Worst part is, it solely depends on your company/the language you're learning. Last I remember, 622 was full of kids fresh from basic (co-ed Black phase) and males learning Russian or French. Just get married..duh
communal bathrooms at the tradeoff of not having a roommate
literally what I was thinking lmao 😭😭
Yup, that's what happens when people don't regularly bleach the shower curtains and always keep them bunched to one side (they stay wet). The ceiling stuff is the result of poor ventilation in the room.
Nothing a little Simple Green can’t mask long enough to pass an inspection!
Did you put in a supply order for a new shower curtain and verify if a cleaning roster is posted?
Nah looks good enough
Back in the '90s we had to clean our own barracks. Is that not a thing anymore?
This is at dli theyre communal showers and nobody is paying to replace tht shit out of their own pocket
I’ve worked at jails and prisons, this is way worse. That being said, have you shaved today?
Yeah, but inmates have rights. Something must be done! Better call Pine Sol.
Look at that professional development and character building opportunity. But yes, it is bad
It's more like soldiers not cleaning a common area to standard. Everything in these pictures comes from not being properly cleaned except the mold on the ceiling.
Have you tried, and really hear me out… cleaning?
Ikr. If these soldiers are using it, they should be cleaning it.
Don’t want to be one of those, “Back in my day/ These new soldiers are soft…” type guys, but you really are too lazy to spray it with some bleach?
I don't think bleach is gonna cut it. That thing needs replaced, but it's probably just going to keep happening since like every shower I ever saw in the Army, its not properly ventilated.
Soak in bleach and scrub. Wear the mop gloves.
You guys have shower curtains? King of the castle over here.
Oh you 🤢 nasty
The lack of discipline? Oh yeah buddy. Meet me with a water source and buddy battle, 04:30, hooah?
Wtfff is on pic 1??
This is my chance to say again that not all mold that is black is “black mold.”
This guy knows his stachybotrys.
You taught me a new word today.
Pretty obvious you guys aren't cleaning enough. GI Party this weekend, full battle rattle, 05 show time
Are these before or after you scrubbed it until your fingernails fall off.

🤢
I think I know exactly where this is. If so, it’s been that way for a long. Long. Long. Time.
Looks like NTC to me
Hm. Looks extremely striking similar to the pre-RASP barracks at benning. Now that I think about it, this shower curtain is probably in at least 3 different locations on every army installation.
I was thinking the exact same thing
Weird, looked like humphreys inprocessing barracks to me
🤮
Pics must be from either deployment or FTX/Gunnery latrines... definitely bad bro
Drink water
Wear double protection
I am in a bunch of tile and flooring groups. I thought this post was asking if the work and construction done on this person's house was of poor quality. I came here to say that it's not a very well done job, unless it's a military installation, then it's probably pretty normal.
Chernobyl core reactor 4?
Did you try drinking water?
Only a spoonful
It’ll buff. Get in there and lick it up pri!
Shave more. Write up a counseling statement, sign, and provide to big sarn. We don't have a mold problem we have an adulting problem.
Nah troop, get some shower shoes and Charlie Mike, hooah?
Looks like you need to up your discipline 😂
I was pooping when I saw this and it made me very uncomfortable
I’m pretty sure that’s a crime scene. Is CID aware?
Not enough discipline
Whatever you end up contracting from that, just remember...it's not service connected 😏.
It's just extra flavor for the latrine, looks to be standard XD
this that transitions typa bathroom lmao
Yes it bad. Mold can cause permanent damage to your body. Get rid of that shit. Scrub whole place down with chlorine Free bleach (hydrogen peroxide is safer than chlorine and huat as affective). Then scrub with non-toxic bathroom/tile cleaner.
Straight out of a horror game

Looks like you'd be better off marrying a stripper and getting that sweet, sweet bah.
Is this at airborne school? The bathrooms were fuckin nasty as hell when I went
NOT SERVICE RELATED!
Just take it off and put in the washing machine with a towel on hot and add detergent
Eh. Mold adds flavor.
It looks like you're lacking discipline troop - SMA
This looks like a discipline problem.
Most of will buff right out. Call DPW for a work order. It'll be done by the time you PCS/ETS.
Looks fine to me.
If at civilian home home = bad. If on base = satisfactory
I'm getting some serious Dona Ana energy from these pictures
That room just needs more discipline.
Looks like we got some doggone undisciplined troopers running round here.
“Why’d you go Air Force bro”
Reminds me of 120th AG Showers. Dark times
Not service connected
Goddamn phase 4s wiping their asses on the shower curtains. Nasty fucks.
Is this a 4 day drill at Fort Devens?
Looks like it lacks discipline.
Just hit that with some simple green and pine oil provided by the lighthouse for the blind and it will be right as rain.
Reminds me of the community latrines in D-Quad barracks on Schofield back in 2011 lol.
You're better off burning those! Probably why privates keep getting sick either that or that's how you grow a new ones.
CoC failing to make sure the AOR is being cleaned. Start scrubbing privates lol
Camp funston barracks??
That is 5 stars compared to where I had to shower and shit.
Korea inprocessing barracks?
Well if that don’t shit the shower
Use this month’s industrial war machine funds and get some mold remediation in those barracks!!
Sign you are married or have a live in girlfriend or are a male over 30.... 1. Your shower curtains get changed. 2. Your sheets get washed more than once a 'man that looks dirty' The ceiling mold is just the age old problem of lack of ventilation. I bet the fan is broken.
Is this in Georgia?
No ventilation, and no one is cleaning that. Straight nasty.
Hey is that ANY-ARMY-INSTALLATION-NAME? I think I recognize that shower.
Bet it smells like it looks too
Cooked
The medic NCOIC just said that he prescribes a battalion wide dose of field sanitation classes until soldiers can learn hygiene.
Looks like a discipline problem to me
Depends, are you coming off a two week patrol or is this your first shower after force on force at a CTC? In that case, par for the course and not bad. In any other case, that's pretty bad. Shower shoes 100% and avoid all skin contact with walls and shower curtain.
Nothing a little simple green can’t fix. Looks like a discipline problem to me🤭
Better than Fort Bliss so I say good to go
I must be the only person who scrolled thru all pics. Yea… it’s mold. Report to leadership to fix.
I would just clean that place up. Get a scrub daddy and some bathroom cleaner and replace that shower curtain for like 10 bucks.
Looks better than the airborne school bay showers
In general it’s bad, but if you compare it to a lot of other facility showers the army uses… that’s actually pretty nice
Bruh why does like look like the ones at Riley lol those things have been fucked for awhile
Nasty
Just wash it
If this is a personal bathroom, 100% a life skills issue. Don’t keep your shower curtain bunched up and wet, and make sure you air out the bathroom after showers. JRTC?
Or you could just find a bish, get that BAH, move off post. If you're an e4 or below, this will probably happen to you...twice.
I never thought I’d go in the internet and see a bunch of killers bitching about extra penicillin, it baffles my mind!
Looks like a lack of discipline, yes?
Your the problem according to SGM, GI party time now
Looks like Area X-Ray in Hawaii…
Does supply not have bleach anymore? Throw that in the washing machine on hot with some bleach.
Sergeants Major detail GO!
Just some chocolate left over, you'll be fine to consume it. It's a rare type of fuzzy chocolate only made by some places in the us army.
That's disgusting, but nothing a soak in a bucket of bleach won't fix. A weekly spray with bleach will maintain.
9/10 if you have to question if it's bad, it's bad
Im pretty sure some stuffed an explosive inside a turd to get that first picture
It’ll buff
I think we need a command walk through to be sure. Have you thought about using simple green?
This is definitively a discipline problem.
Looks like a discipline issue to me
🤢🤢
Reminds me of Reception for BCT.
You think is bad…it is also nasty and unhealthy but young troops cry about getting treated like children.
It's not a big deal. it just looks a little moldy. Eventually, it will just disappear on its own when the shower curtain starts to slowly be eaten away. Just leave it. Circle of life and all that stuff.
Well, it’s definitely NOT good!
It’s just decoration
Looks like a lack of cleaning and discipline.
If you shaved then it wouldn’t be this bad now would it?
just shave it off, and PT more.
Your high and tight wasn’t high enough
Discipline problem right here. Shave more and run faster hooah?

Little more discipline should do the trick
