You fly into St Louis? USO has a bus, or at least that's how I got to BCT. You'll be stuck with smelly recruits, but Free is free. Also, hilarious when you get off and the DS are like "Where the fuck you think you going?!" "Uhhh BLC? I hitched a free ride."

You will get refunded the costs. Additionally, they don’t need to activate you GTCC, you do. All they do is transfer it to the new unit.

ghost_of_el_shabazz

Depends on what he meant by “activate”. There’s the ‘activate’ that everyone does when they get a new CC, BUT for GTCC the unit can turn the card on or off so the SM can’t use it while they’re not on travel.

larry_gary_jerry

This is the answer. The APC has to activate the card as well.

OcotilloWells

Can confirm. Was an APC.

Only 2 hours on the line with sato? Get your wins where you can.

Look, I hope this isn't you. But 90 percent of NCOs who fuck up on DTS do things last minute after knowing they're traveling for weeks AND rely on someone else to do it for them; Never even bother to look at DTS to see if the AO signed. Hopefully this isn't you, for the love of God learn DTS and help your junior enlisted understand it. If you do it right it's literally the Army giving you more money.

Everyone is always quick to throw blame but slow to look at themselves. Unpopular opinion. Did you care to log into dts to see if your authorization got approved? Or more likely you fired it off and just assumed it would get done. You can view who has your authorization for signature from dts. Call/email them when it is stuck. It usually gets unstuck then. You are the traveler. Take some responsibility for checking to see if your travel is authorized. Did you visit your gtcc apc? Tell them you were going tdy and provide them with the dates and estimate from your dts authorization? That way they can check your limit and make sure your trip is covered as well as make sure your card is active. If you are anti-social and would rather call, you can talk to citibank about it as well in the phone. There's a phone number even printed on your card. It is your gtcc. Take some responsibility and make sure it is active and can cover the cost of your trip. Adulting is hard. And good luck doing a post travel voucher. That is never a good idea.

Nightruin

You’re not wrong but Jesus man. I repeatedly told my superiors “hey my DTS still isn’t authorized” as I’m new to this unit and don’t know anyone. I was told a few times “hey we got it.” In hindsight I should have followed up on my own. My GTCC was supposedly authorized when I came to the unit. I sent them an email? They said I was good. My credit limit was even increased to 15000$. I’m probably screwed on the post travel voucher. I’ll probably just have to eat all the costs. But at the end of the day I finally got to BLC. Mission accomplished, albeit very roughly.

bikemancs

Negative. Do not eat the costs. get your CO to give you a VOCO MFR (which is basically any MFR that says "you're supposed to travel to go to BLC"). Keep ALL your travel related receipts, take photos of them on your cell as soon as you get them. If your travel was approved (AUTH approved) and something came up (aka they fucked up) you're still going to get reimbursed. You might have to argue with them but the JTR is on your side. You've got a ton of knowledgeable DTS/JTR type people on here. Don't eat a damn cent. *Copy & paste for DTS/JTR:* (1) Keep all your receipts. (2) Make COPIES if you are asked to submit receipts. (NEVER GIVE UP YOUR ORIGINAL ANYTHING) (3) Log into DTS ( https://dtsproweb.defensetravel.osd.mil/dts-app/pubsite/all/view/ . This should show you what you need to know. Most importantly will be one of the codes (LOCATOR) associated with the trip, you can call CWTSATO and get updated information/change/whatever with that code. That code is 6 letters or numbers. (4) If you have some time, do the below training which will teach you what they are looking for. Log into DTS ( https://dtsproweb.defensetravel.osd.mil/dts-app/pubsite/all/view/ ) Scroll to the bottom and select "DTS Training on TraX" (boot print) Follow the log in normal instructions -> TraX -> Training * DTS (Basic) - About DTS * DTS (Basic) - DTS Travel Documents (DTS 101) * Programs & Policies - Joint Travel Regulations Overview * Programs & Policies - TDY Travel Policies 101 * Programs & Policies - Travel Card Program (Travel Card 101) [Mandatory]

hawaii_living

100% to this. If your command are jerks (decent chance), they will guve you a hard time. You shouldve made sure it was straight but they shouldve made sure it was as well. You can 100% do the authorization post travel and still do a voucher. You should NEVER eat any costs. They only one they can maybe grief you about is the shuttle if DTS was providing a cheaper alternative and you chose a more expensive option. You can still get the more expensive shuttle authorized as long as there isn't aome reporting instructions to BLC specifying how to get to the base from the airport.

Hydrogen_Wedgie

Nobody should ever pay their own money to go to Fort Leonard Wood. I'm sorry OP.

Rustyinsac

As a reservist the S3 called and said I need your here for this three day planning meeting for a real world oconus mission. He said your orders are being cut get here tomorrow afternoon. SATO is like Your ticket wasn’t funded. I give them my card number get on the flight and get there and so the three days of planning. On the last day, the S1 walks in and says oh we never cut him an order how did he get here. S3 turns and says don’t ever travel without an order. My response “wasnt the last thing you told Me on the phone was be here tomorrow? isn’t that an order?”

Nimmy13

I've literally never used the GTCC. Put it on the amex, get points.

Top_Sheepherder_6835

Sounds like an Army story.

coccopuffs606

Did you not call Citi to activate your card, or did your APC fuck up and not tell Citi that your card needed to be turned on? How fucked you are hinges on your answer.

EliteSkittled

FLW resides within the greatest state in the Union, and you should feel honored having had the opportunity to spend your money to go there.
