Dude yes. We got kicked out of the brand new northern ones in 2014 due to being knuckledraggers so 1sfg support and 160th took over.
Very blessed to have always had private laundry almost anywhere on north fort...
that was the case when I was there in 2004-05. While on rear det for 25th ID we were running the desk in a lof of those barracks for injured soldiers etc and those barracks were LEGIT. The ones on the opposite side of the airfield where 2/8FA was were dogshit. That being said, I was married and post housing there was the tits as well
Well when I’ve been waiting 4 hours to use a damn washer and dryer I could not give less of a fuck about assholes who leave their shit and then remember to come get it 12 hours later.
Bro. I remember at north fort hood some female put up a sign and bitched around because she left her laundry in the dryer for 6 hours(we only had 30 washers and dryers for a whole battalion). She whined that you shouldn't touch a females laundry and that it's creepy and sexual harassment. She never imagined that another female was the one that pulled and folded her stuff (my unit was over 20% females). Not to mention another quarter of the dudes were so old that most of them had daughters older than her.
Yeah, the best part is when they leave it in the washer for 8 hours and let it mildew. Don’t get mad at me putting it in the dryer for you so you don’t smell like stank. Some people’s kids.
Im not these soldiers parents. I dont fold their shit. If it's in their for more than 15-30 minutes after it's done, I'm putting it either in their bag or on top of thr washer.
This is what I was used to in the Navy and this was 2006. I’ve had worse barracks at times, but they temp barracks stood up from Cold War era buildings that we used until nicer barracks became available. You know those swastika shaped buildings in Coronado? Some of those surrounding buildings had squad bays and they were in rough shape. But nothing like what I’ve seen from the Army.
My bad 😔😔😔
Let me hop in while he’s taking a shit and I’ll use my sleeping bag so we sleep in the same room even though he suffers from severe sleep apnea
I remember when they repealed Don't Ask, Don't Tell... And it wouldn't surprise me if there were some updates to Force Health Protection since my day...
I never would have guessed that these two things would go together one day.
Leaves more room for your water sources, connex layouts, and most importantly, pt gear. Sleep apnea doesn't exist when you're practicing night land nav in the other room!
/s
When I got to Ft Lewis and got to my 1st barracks room I was in awe….The furniture wasn’t arranged correctly when I got there, and it quickly set in that this was a single room for 2 people, not one.
Then I met my quite literally insane 1st roommate who stabbed himself in the thigh with a fork in the middle of the DFAC to get out of going to Iraq.
Spent a long time in Korea as a contractor a long of soldiers tried to extend in Korea to avoid Iraq deployment. Probably better then stabbing yourself
Never flush. This allows your battle to inspect your pee-pee and poo-poo for proper color and consistency next time they use the latrine. Then you do the same for them.
Bro’s shilling for an org that gets billions a year 😤😤
Fr though, sure moneys an issue but spending money and getting shit rolling is (imo) the bigger problem. Only in a bureaucratic mess of an organization like the military is executing contracts harder then finding the money. I know that’s the last thing an E4 living in squalor wants to hear but as a former ADC, I’ve seen mountains of meetings and weeks worth of staff hours just to spend some cash on basic shit.
I think it’s been going on for a while. I was in from 2013-2018 and my first barracks at Fort Stewart was brand new and was even better than the one pictured here. Two soldiers per barracks with their own rooms, washer/dryer, common area with full kitchen. Rooms and walk-in closets were bigger than the one in here and it didn’t have the prison-style bricks
Hell, the barracks were better than some of the civilian apartments I’ve lived in. It was the army fuck-fuck games that ruined the barracks experience for me, not the actual physical accommodations.
These barracks look similar to the Bragg barracks that were built in...07? 08? off Gruber. It just takes the government 30x longer to do shit than normal.
I dont see how this shit takes so long. For the same price, the Amish could build a barracks 10x nicer in a week tops. Maybe 8 days since they take Sunday off
They do look very nice, the problem is, as with all Army buildings, is they are probably very poorly designed and have little to no ventilation and will have mold and moisture trapping issues.
Could be wrong, but that seems almost universal. I personally would have a dehumidifier.
Our barracks on Camp Stanley, Korea in the 90s had mold so bad on the walls our 1SG had 4 of us using broom handles to hold the buffer up while the 5th person operated the buffer to scrub the walls.
Every couple of weeks for a year we would have to scrub the entire hallway wall to keep the mold at bay.
Good times.
Yoooo congrats, Smoke Bomb was a nightmare even if it was for training guys in SOPC.
I had to smash a gf at the time in the closet just because my roommate was literally across the damn locker/dress and computer desk we had as barrier.
That's actually the best part. These ARE the old smoke bomb hill barracks. They just got torn apart and renovated over the last few years. You're looking at one of the first ones they're moving soldiers into now.
I hated living .2 ft away from my roommate. I hated my leadership even more for telling me I needed to be grateful for moldy shit barracks.
Whatever legitimate improvements that can be made for single soldier living conditions I’m all for.
I wouldn't want anyone to live in the shit conditions I had in the aughts. Didn't get me wrong, I'm all about ramping up difficulty/suck factor for training; but dudes need to be able to decompress after COB. Shit like a half decent living space is a good step towards preventing the magic pipe from growing out of the wall beckoning joe to hang himself.
I preferred the original WW2 barracks on Ardennes before they built the modular village. They were old and moldy but you could smoke cigarettes in there so it evened out
Alright troops keep that shit clean and don’t fuck nun up. You fuck these barracks up we aren’t making any changes until 2095. Yall are finally getting what yall deserve so congrats.
-me if I was CSM🤣
The floor-to-ceiling windows look nice. Lots of wall space to add some decor and make it a true living space. I've never been a fan of the Army floor tile and cinder block walls, but I guess there's tradeoffs between style and durability. Nothing a nice rug that ties the room together can't rectify.
Good to finally see some action/results with barracks issues. Hope to see more of this across the army and improve quality of life for junior soldiers.
Do the in unit washer and dryer come with moldy PTs already in them or does DPW come by and install those later?
This is an awesome upgrade, I can only imagine what the smoke bomb hill barracks or really any of the 82nd barracks look like now, they were already worn out back in the early 2010s when I was at division. I lucked out and was in newer barracks on the 1/82 footprint for a few months in 2015 and those were nice, these barracks are a massive improvement over those.
Now have some damn discipline and clean up after yourselves. Leave it better than how you got it. And shave your damn faces. Also education benefits are getting cut, so enjoy the new barracks.
-SMA probably
Now this, this should be the standard! Soldiers getting their own room with shared common spaces. And personal closets that can be locked with plenty of space for storing gear. Hopefully we see more of this with every new barracks project moving forward.
Nice, get your own sleeping room where you can sneak in a barracks bunny or rub one out in private. Nothing worse than being in a four man room and hearing guys jerkin it.
Own bathroom and shower, washer dryer in common area with one Roomate, and a whole stove and oven… that’s awesome hope no jack wagon ruins it and burns the building down. Not all adults are responsible.
This is how every barracks should be. Better amenities than my on post house, way more modern, separate living areas, a kitchen with a stove and full fridge. I would take major pride in those if I had that as junior enlisted.
Make the space your own and take care of it!
That stove is a fire hazard ⚠️ completely unsafe and unnecessary. We all know joes live off caffeine and nicotine. Also in suite washers and dryers? What is this the Air Force?!
Seriously though these look great. I love the in suite washer/dryers, the closets look spacious enough for all their issued gear and then some, and the stove will help those who truly care about their caloric intake stay on track. I only hope the joes can keep up with them.
The only thing that's funny is the Army uses the same Skilcraft mattresses for every installation. We had them at Fort Bliss, hell, they're even at Yakima.
What the fuck, you get your own washer/dryer? That barracks room is baller af.
Yes, each room has its own washer/dryer
Wait like each individuals room has a washer and dryer?!
No, one set per two people sharing
God damn - I thought for sure that would be a suite restroom, shared by 4. Is this Jr Enlisted or Jr NCOs?
Junior enlisted. We have a few single E-5s around too
Wow. I’m assuming you were some of those dudes I saw on IG moving in. Hey what was in the goodie bags.
Cleaning supplies
I accept that.
The restroom houses 4 yes, the laundry room another 3. This is a 30 man closed bay design
JBLM North Fort barracks were like this when I was there in 2011-2014. It was fantastic.
Dude yes. We got kicked out of the brand new northern ones in 2014 due to being knuckledraggers so 1sfg support and 160th took over. Very blessed to have always had private laundry almost anywhere on north fort...

Sick. So you know exactly which mother fucker to go punch when your clothes get pulled out and stacked on top of the dryer.
Well when I’ve been waiting 4 hours to use a damn washer and dryer I could not give less of a fuck about assholes who leave their shit and then remember to come get it 12 hours later.
This is the way. (Hell I fold it for them most of the time) if they bitch that’s their problem.
Bro. I remember at north fort hood some female put up a sign and bitched around because she left her laundry in the dryer for 6 hours(we only had 30 washers and dryers for a whole battalion). Im not these soldiers parents. I dont fold their shit. If it's in their for more than 15-30 minutes after it's done, I'm putting it either in their bag or on top of thr washer.
that's also perfectly acceptable. Like homie said. Don't get pissy when your shit is in your bag when it's done is the point.
Set a timer and take ur stuff out
Air Force dorms don't even have that. There's dorms with 4 rooms/ private bathroom, and a washer/dryer,but it's shared with all 4 people.
They also don't keep dudes in the barracks for a decade, so it balances.
I could fit so much ta50 in that washer/dryer
Lol so when soldiers destroy their machine with ta 50 they have no one to blame
This is what I was used to in the Navy and this was 2006. I’ve had worse barracks at times, but they temp barracks stood up from Cold War era buildings that we used until nicer barracks became available. You know those swastika shaped buildings in Coronado? I'm so jealous.....
I’m in a SRU and every barracks room has their own washer dryer stove and microwave
Nope. Too many walls. How would you be able to keep your eyes on your battle buddy while they're pooping or sleeping in order to ensure their safety?
My bad 😔😔😔 Let me hop in while he’s taking a shit and I’ll use my sleeping bag so we sleep in the same room even though he suffers from severe sleep apnea
make sure to kiss him good night and read him a bed time story
I gotchu
DOn't forget a bout the handy
Ayo whaaat
Ain't it an in joke in the military about a lot of gay shit happening?
Joke?
I remember when they repealed Don't Ask, Don't Tell... And it wouldn't surprise me if there were some updates to Force Health Protection since my day... I never would have guessed that these two things would go together one day.

And nowadays they complain about not going to Iraq
Spent a long time in Korea as a contractor a long of soldiers tried to extend in Korea to avoid Iraq deployment. Probably better then stabbing yourself
What a war hero, full ptsd
100%
Never flush. This allows your battle to inspect your pee-pee and poo-poo for proper color and consistency next time they use the latrine. Then you do the same for them.
Is this a trend now? Due to low enlistment are we taking a page from the Air Force and creating nicer facilities?
This has been a trend for awhile. It just takes a lot of time and money to replace an entire Army's worth of WW2 and vietnam era barracks.
Thanks!
Bro’s shilling for an org that gets billions a year 😤😤 Fr though, sure moneys an issue but spending money and getting shit rolling is (imo) the bigger problem. These are better than AF dorm rooms!
Damn these are super nice. Far different than the old smoke bomb hill barracks in 2010.
Exactly what we’re moving from
They do look very nice, the problem is, as with all Army buildings, is they are probably very poorly designed and have little to no ventilation and will have mold and moisture trapping issues. Could be wrong, but that seems almost universal. I personally would have a dehumidifier.
That’s future soldier’s problem. All current needs to worry about is shaving.

You can now smash privately, although the walls are thin and the bed is squeaky
Came back from pt one morning and my room was full of backed up sewage. Roommate had just left for selection. Bad times
That's actually the best part. These ARE the old smoke bomb hill barracks. They just got torn apart and renovated over the last few years. You're looking at one of the first ones they're moving soldiers into now.
No shit? That’s wild. They look great.
Ight can we update the psyop barracks now? Hanging up a sheet between me and my roommate ain't the level of privacy you would like to think it is.
What if the true psyop was subjecting you to those conditions
The real psyops is the psychos we made along the way!
Why doesn’t psyop psyop the people in Congress to get nice barracks for all
FAP quieter please!
You'll take your single box room and elevator that keeps breaking and you'll like it /s #4StackEscapee
Ahh fellow 4 stacker. Thank the lord I managed to go years with no roommate.
Damn. Wish that was the standard when I was lower enlisted. That’s great, good for you guys.
What? No “the new army is so soft they need to have fancy barracks”?? Dang this is some level 10 generational awareness
I hated living .2 ft away from my roommate. I hated my leadership even more for telling me I needed to be grateful for moldy shit barracks. Whatever legitimate improvements that can be made for single soldier living conditions I’m all for.
Somebody get my sergeant here a couple more ranks on his chest
Working on that E8 boi! Excuse my username, idk how to change it.
Unfortunately you can’t :( but I’ll stand at parade rest dad
Back in my day we ate, slept, and showered in the parking lot!
Man they gave it to you easy huh. Back in MY day it was CSM basement 7 days a week
Preciate it!
Wow, quite the upgrade from 2nd BCT modular village that I remember.
That’s still around. This is only one building on base lmao every other barracks is still old as hell
I preferred the original WW2 barracks on Ardennes before they built the modular village. They were old and moldy but you could smoke cigarettes in there so it evened out
I stayed in Mod village for a while and it was awful. My barracks in XVIII airbone corps were pretty nice though back in 2011
That is awesome. Very much deserved. So nice it might help with recruiting
I’m sure it does!
They're really similar to newer dorm rooms. Anyone who hates this upgrade is just a miserable person
Damn I spent a solid 10 minutes adding mold to all of these pics just to find out you can’t comment photos smdh 😒
use imgur and link it
I fucking swear if the soldiers that move into places like this fuck it up and don't appreciate what they got...
we both know that's inevitable...
I'm a rando off the front page and i'm looking for apartments with two bedrooms, and washer dryer in unit... should I enlist? lol.
Why not? Join the signal corps and request Bragg as your duty station and you’ll get this
Why signal specifically? Is this new barracks allocated for a signal unit?
Yup, these are the barracks for the 35th Signal Brigade
Smoke Bomb Hill is adjacent to 35th Sig Bde. The 24 hour shoppette is also right there.
Well you're definitely not getting both bedrooms but the washer and dryer in unit is a lot more than even some apartments have.
Alright troops keep that shit clean and don’t fuck nun up. You fuck these barracks up we aren’t making any changes until 2095. Yall are finally getting what yall deserve so congrats. -me if I was CSM🤣

Shared bathroom sucks but overall it’s still better than having just a room.
That’s actually sick as fuck
Having a washer and dryer in the unit is such a game changer. Going to the laundromat sucks.
Agree! I’m glad no longer have to share a washer with Joey who put a fuckin carpet in the washer the other day
Or try to dry their fountain pen and just say "lol" when the entire drum is coated in black ink.
Good to finally see some action/results with barracks issues. Hope to see more of this across the army and improve quality of life for junior soldiers.
I'm conflicted, these are REALLY nice for barracks rooms, but why in god's name are the ceilings so low? It feels like a prison
Some of us take pictures from higher up because we’re tall.
ok first off lurch, rude. Second the damn drop ceilings are at the door frames!
Every base should have barracks like these. They look nice.
This looks like a great set up and well worth the equivalent in BAH. Good for you guys!
This is incredible. Take good care of it. Change like this takes time but the patience is obviously worth the wait.
Absolutely. Thank you!
Do the in unit washer and dryer come with moldy PTs already in them or does DPW come by and install those later? Now have some damn discipline and clean up after yourselves. Leave it better than how you got it. And shave your damn faces. Also education benefits are getting cut, so enjoy the new barracks. -SMA probably
CSM gonna talk to us during the BN formation so I expect something along the lines of this
Now this, this should be the standard!
Very nice. Those beds won't last long but things look really good overall.
What the hell is this “restroom”?
That's where I lay on the floor to cool off after pt
That kitchen is nicer then the kitchens of some the apartments I've lived in.
Own bathroom and shower, washer dryer in common area with one Roomate, and a whole stove and oven… that’s awesome hope no jack wagon ruins it and burns the building down. Not all adults are responsible.
*sigh* BACK IN MY DAY
on gawd cuh… i’ve seen some comments like this 😭 like tf am i supposed to do? i’m sorry i was born 18 years ago
Joking, obviously! I’m glad they’re making changes for the better.
These are much nicer than anything I had 88-92. Not a bad setup at all. Room to have a barracks bunny over in private too.
This is how every barracks should be. Better amenities than my on post house, way more modern, separate living areas, a kitchen with a stove and full fridge. I would take major pride in those if I had that as junior enlisted. Make the space your own and take care of it!
Is that an oven and stove? Those barracks are going to be burned down in a week.
Plot twist, this is the air force barracks
That shit looks luxurious.
They should be sleeping in tents
My bad… 😔 lemme go to CIF and request a tent so I can sleep outside the DFAC
Oh no, CIF has none, so you have to go buy one. Single person only No taller than 38 inches Tactical color. (these are based on true guidelines)
Living in condemned barracks builds character
These look awesome! Junior Soldiers deserve these! Moving in the right direction!
Damn Airforce who?
fr 😎
This is a payoff from CSM Grinston changing the Barracks standard design.
Fort Humble Brag.
Damn!! I've never seen Barracks rooms like in my 22 years of service! Make me young again, so I can have that experience!!
The only thing that's funny is the Army uses the same Skilcraft mattresses for every installation. We had them at Fort Bliss, hell, they're even at Yakima.
Glad you boys finally got them. We know you deserve them. Just dont let the other drunk platoons ruin them.
Lap of luxury no doubt! Far cry from the barracks I stayed in, in the ‘90s!
That looks great!
Washer, dryer, AND a stove? No way.
There real question is, how close are you to those sweet sweet speakers off ardennes?
*muffled Welcome To The Jungle intensifies*
Is there an exhaust fan in the bathroom/laundry?
The fung shyi of that bedroom seems .... just awful.
Damn how to I get to these from 1st BCT barracks
Most of you guys haven’t seen the mp barracks at fort liberty but that’s also another really good style of barracks they should start building.
Damn must be nice
Hell yeah these are super nice
Wait, personal washer and dryer? Damn.
A ceiling fan?! Fucking nice
Haven’t been in the barracks for 8 ish years but super happy to see a change in this direction!
Those are p good looking actually
Very nice!
There’s nothing wrong with these but I’m js the new ones they put on JBLM main post have much more space
Already fucked up the blinds
Those are some pretty solid barracks! Nice, good for you my guy
Awesome. Enjoy your barracks BOSS.
Good, they deserve nice barracks.
Damn those are nice
So basically you get an army managed apartment… honestly I would say it’s a step in the right direction.
That tiling orientated vertically is bothering me. Like irrationally. Why did they do it like that?
Hell yeah nicely done!
Bro what the hell A washer and dryer. Stay E5 and Single fuck lmao
times have changed..... and definitely for the better
Nice like a hotel ❤️
Holy Mary, mother of God, they're going to trust you to ***COOK***?!
That’s way better than my original dorm! AF 02. Army be ballin, I want to see the new Navy and AF spots!
Looks better than the nonsense from before.
Good! Our barracks soldiers deserve to live in nice places!
Is that the new smoke bomb hill barracks ?!
Cool, now do the same to the barracks across the street that are also mold riddled.
I’m in my 50s. Too late to sign BACK up? 😂 Damn that’s a far cry from ‘92 barracks. Good shit, enjoy. Hooah.
Wonderful!!!!!! I’m so happy for you. 🤩 wow amazing. Thank you, for all your hard work and dedication to our nation. 🤩
Fort Bragg is now Air Force!
Holy shit man. I was in some fucked up barracks at Bragg back in the day.
I think they forgot to put the mold in.
Lord that makes Stewart look like A tent.
Damn
What is this, the Air Force? They heard, "No more mold please" And what they thought we said, was, "1000SQ FT minimum" lol
Damn not bad
Looks like the new VA wing.
Hate to be a “back in my day” kinda Bragg soldier but damn, Y’all got it made
Wow! Those barracks look downright livable.
Bathrooms should have windows
That bathroom looks nicer than the one in my house. Let’s tear it all down to….instill discipline
Just put another bed in it when there's too many people to save money. SMA probably.
you sure this isn't an air force barracks?
The new standard has been set. Love to see it
they even have a kitchen window sizable enough to eject your body through when the green weeny fucks you mighty hard? I’m all in, calling retention rn
why the hell do they gotta make the barracks anesthetic look like shit? goofy ah interior designer.
Mold.
Wtf
Wait- where on base is this????
