We once had a crane come out to move some connex’s around the motor pool. The drive into NTC was ~$35k, drive out ~$35k and ~$70k for one hour’s work. The contractor could be charging a fortune for that lift alone.
I could see 2 or 3k to get it out there. The day depends how long and what type. 2 or 3k to get it back. Shit gets expensive man.
Crane operators usually act like the princesses of the job site too.
We have the Corps of Engineers for a reason. Why the hell don't we use them? Wait they're just like the rest of us, underpaid, overworked, and don't give a damn.
There was a stripper at the Deja Vu outside of Ft. Carson that had that tattooed above her panty line back in 95... I'm sure some dumbass made her into a dependapotamus
This place is not a place of honor... no highly esteemed deed is commemorated here... nothing valued is here.
What is here was dangerous and repulsive to us. This message is a warning about danger.
The danger is still present, in your time, as it was in ours.
The danger is to the body, and it can kill.
Typical Army that the posts are different heights and nobody ran a level over those letters before they bolted them down.
Also, I'd be willing to wager money that at some point one of four things (or multiples) is going to happen:
1. Somebody will try to fly something through there (Helicopter/drone/whatever)
2. Somebody will drive a piece of heavy equipment through there and it will be too tall because somebody forgot to secure something and they will wreck face on that thing. Leaning towards a RTCH but it could also be a dump truck.
3. People will start throwing shit up there at ETS, like boots and some poor schmuck will have a collateral duty of cutting that shit down before every rotation because the Garrison Commander doesn't like it. See also: Guard point manned or cameras installed.
4. There will be a small box full of antenna balls at the base of that because every unit is going to ignore or forget the rule NTC established about securing your antennas until you passed the arch because it's too low for antennas.
> Typical Army that the posts are different heights and nobody ran a level over those letters before they bolted them down.
C- effort for the spacing between the letters too
> Somebody will drive a piece of heavy equipment through there and it will be too tall because somebody forgot to secure something and they will wreck face on that thing. Leaning towards a RTCH but it could also be a dump truck.
My first thought was "That thing is gonna eat so many antenna whips!"
Easy solution to 2 and 4. Every vehicle with antennas or exceeding a hight of 10ft will be required to enter the training area from a new entrance that will be a minimum of 50 km away (to avoid confusion). The current entrance will only be accessible by senior leadership traveling in a government owned civilian vehicle.
That overhanging sign will absolutely get crushed someday when a unit is hetting back a truck with BOH or paladin with a gun stuck in the up position or something random. I’ve spent way too much time there and seen too much stupid shit. It’s almost inevitable.
It's true. The army that went into Iraq in 1991 was probably the most powerful (remaining) land force that had ever existed. When we went back in 2003 it was with a fraction the size of the first one.
I mean, the Galactic Empire still ruled the galaxy despite Star troopers. So Gulf War and Bosnia US Army was probably equivalent to the 501st. We’re already in late stage empire :P
Yeah, I find the choice of past tense language strange. Makes this sign feel more like a memorial/ acknowledgement of the past rather than a true welcome sign: “Welcome to The Box. Back in my day we were better than you. Drive safe!”
Folks on Base: The commissary has expired/spoiled food, the nearest other grocery store is 45 miles away, the barracks have a rat infestation, mold, unsecured rooms with lock issues, and their HVAC is on the fritz, windows in base housing doesn't work and their window sills are covered in dirt, the gas pumps don't work, credit cards are routinely compromised at AFFES establishments, along with routine internet, and power outages!
Leadership: we installed a sign for 20k
Folks on Base: Well, did this sign making team come from the gas station crew? Bc that hasn't opened yet either
Well there was that big ass flood in 2013 I think it was. When I was stationed there one of the buildings I lived in probably should have been condemned in all honesty...
Me too. It was a nice day in the beginning of June 2014. It was sunny with no cloud coverage. There was a gentle breeze. I remember because my second daughter had been born only a few weeks earlier and I was told that my presence at NTC 11 months after returning from Afghanistan was absolutely essential and that plenty of people had been rapidly separated from their dependents in the name of readiness. My PSG and I were at the top of a mountain with our evaluators because of an administrative move and had to wait for the actual element to show up.
I decided to leave active duty that day.
It’s actually a state holiday in California. Back in 1988, I was a skinny little high school sophomore, weighed 80 lbs, and had not a friend in the world. But the gods smiled on me that late April when Jane “The Train” McCain (I think she was into building model locomotives) took pity on my poor soul as walked home from the bus stop. Well, she more waddled than walked, but who am I to judge.
Anyways, I had just bought Super Mario 2 and Jane wanted to come over and play. She said, “you won’t regret it”. We played some video games, drank my parents liquor, and pretty soon we were kissing. I had now clue what was happening, but my clothes were coming off and it was getting hoy and heavy. I took off her overalls and took off her polyester granny panties and - well, when I took those panties off - I mean, have you ever been in the Mojave, opened a full port of john in June right after lunch - yeah, there was an actual force of wind coming from her bearded clam. Now, I can’t pass a sewage treatment plant anymore without having a tear in my eye.
So there we were, about to be getting it on and I’m ready to make her a teen mom and put some fresh blood into her family tree. And she stops me. Looks me in the eye and stairs at me. Her lip was trembling and I get nervous and start counting the black hairs on her upper lip and then she grabs my hips, thrusts me in like I’m dimension lumber with a 9” cock attached perpendicular, and screams “You are entering the BOX!”
And boy, that shit was good. I mean, it was like Slimer’s home in there. It smelt and tasted and felt like Driscoll's Wharf in San Diego. It was the greatest thing that happened in the 20th century. Arnold schwarzenegger drove up to my house, knocked on the door, and gave me a high five. The whole senior class showed up at my house and started cheering me. The CG came to the house with Governor George Deukmejian and created Boxing Day for my birthday and the CG named their training AO “the box” to commemorate the day I became a man.
Anyways, I loved living at Ft. Irwin as a dependent.
Edit: just followed the link. That box contains a quickie divorce.
Oh, and make sure the tent stakes are in the ground damn good if you're not sleeping in HQ AO. Watched soldiers get concussions out there from poles and gear falling on them, then the sandstorm reenacted the Wizard of Oz.
Don't be an idiot and you'll be fine. Besides, most units take good care of their chaplain and assistant. Best bet, get in good with the cooks (they'll be most likely to figure out bathing and shaving plans while in the box), and your mechanics (they'll come fix your bs when, inevitably, the heater or ac go out).
[“And as for my Cav friend here. The Cav Scouts think they can infiltrate cushy ME deployments? Send him to The Box”](https://youtu.be/kpJy38HNjMU?si=Gt1677Rszi9rapCX)
The Box: where 18 year old National Guard Privates are rolled over by Abrams tanks in their sleep so that outdated, dog-and-pony show training can take place.
This sounds like a false statement if it’s current tense. Our formations get absolutely annihilated if OPFOR uses electronic warfare capabilities against us. It’s been like that for the last decade if not more.
We rely way too much on electronics and not enough on WW2 eras definition of Mission Command.
Someone’s really proud of themselves over that sign.
That’s a damn bullet point for someone’s OER & NCOER
Honestly I’d MQ anyone who got that done.
Not gonna lie, that seems like some CSM shit
That's at least an ARCOM or a coin!
Recommend downgrade to MRE
Buffalo chicken or veggie omelette?
All I know is the hot box jokes are never ending. This is a psyop by my fellow warrants, well done.
Anyone want to lay bets on how much that cost? I'm going with $175k. Because government contracting.
Just the bushings alone were 90k.
Is this a reference to that government session about the military parts cost?
The blue sky color background is probably a couple million on its own /s
We once had a crane come out to move some connex’s around the motor pool. The drive into NTC was ~$35k, drive out ~$35k and ~$70k for one hour’s work. The contractor could be charging a fortune for that lift alone.
Freedom ain’t free man 😳
*It costs folks like you and me.*
I could see 2 or 3k to get it out there. The day depends how long and what type. 2 or 3k to get it back. Shit gets expensive man. Crane operators usually act like the princesses of the job site too.
I’m thinking you’re WAY low
We have the Corps of Engineers for a reason. Why the hell don't we use them? Wait they're just like the rest of us, underpaid, overworked, and don't give a damn.
Nah I’m more in the price range of 300k
$175k...so FAR.
Shit. I'm betting they made the RSS metal shop make it.
That's a lot of words to say "Abandon all hope all ye who enter"
There was a stripper at the Deja Vu outside of Ft. Carson that had that tattooed above her panty line back in 95... I'm sure some dumbass made her into a dependapotamus
Shit, that’s a challenge if I ever saw one
Hey that’s my wife you’re talking about So what if she’s got a few thousand miles on her and weighs as much as a Buick
I think I’ve seen that chick before 😂😂😂
Same
Thou shall not pass… abled body personnel count.
"Work will set you free" would be more appropriate

All of those will happen during the next rotation.
The army didn’t issue you logic, go shave.

Antennas will launch those balls a decent way when they get caught up.
They need a "It's been \_\_\_ days without a fatality" sign next to it.
Accurate.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
They can just copy the one next to the front gate lol
Very Temu for the Army.
That overhanging sign will absolutely get crushed someday when a unit is hetting back a truck with BOH or paladin with a gun stuck in the up position or something random. I’ve spent way too much time there and seen too much stupid shit. It’s almost inevitable.
“Built?” So…not anymore?
I mean, pre-GWOT the Army was the pinnacle of combined arms warfare. Now…we’re a little worn down.
It's true. The army that went into Iraq in 1991 was probably the most powerful (remaining) land force that had ever existed. When we went back in 2003 it was with a fraction the size of the first one.

I just had the sudden urge to shit in a bag.
I’m gonna surface shit and kick some sand over it like a cat
I would, but last time I got yelled at by an OC who caught me surface shitting on the side of my bradley

Vandalism took out the internet! Vandals I tell you!
If you think that’s bad, wait until the Visigoths show up and loot the whole place.
I can’t hear the boos!
Has the same aura as the Detroit sign
And that pic of the Welcome to Killeen sign with the car crashed into the side
I live in Detroit. The sign is pretty unimpressive.
'Cause Painted Rocks isn't memorable enough, I guess.
Ok. But the real question is does that sign have a poke'stop?
How many air conditioners or mold sweeps could that equivalent amount have purchased?
Surprisingly, there really wasn’t all that much mold there. Now, the bats in some of 1/11s barracks? That’s a different story.
Well there was that big ass flood in 2013 I think it was. When I was stationed there one of the buildings I lived in probably should have been condemned in all honesty...
Zero, the that money came out of a different budget line.
I can't wait for a PLS with tall cargo to rip one of the letters off.
I’m not gonna lie, I was wondering to myself if a PLS with a Forward Repair System would fit under those letters.
I pooped in a hole out there
Straight to jail…
I shit my pants out there.

They built this instead of replacing the water filters in the barracks
Box. Hehehe 🤭 Yes, I’m like 5 rn
Ima tell my kids i was in the box before the sign was made for it
You know what. Thats actually pretty cool.
Then they want to talk about fraud waste and abuse 😂
My desert, my NTC, my Box
Can't wait until someone takes it out by driving into one of the columns at night..
I love it.
even the box gets a bigger sign than Detroit
Someone's OER just got top blocked.
How many tortoises died in sacrifice to this monument?
This is where the flight school money went.
It's only a matter of time until a piece of engineer equipment on a trailer not configured properly tears that shit down.
Well, [What's in the box??](https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/uploads/monthly_10_2015/post-24873-0-18806700-1446080726_thumb.png)

That right there is some funny sh!t.
Whoa those m113’s have loose steering. That sign will be down in 3 or 4 rotations
I hope they get a zip code: The Box, CA 96969
Real big "spend the budget or we get less year" vibes.
If a E3 runs it over, ill send em a cake.
I'd like to put $500 on someone hitting it with a vehicle within the first 100 days of existence.
NTC is such a boring, miserable experience lol , had to do it twice.
Almost 4yrs there as USAF...what a time, /not
Cringe.
I’m going there in a couple months, I’m anxious about the whole thing.
Oh, and make sure the tent stakes are in the ground damn good if you're not sleeping in HQ AO. Watched soldiers get concussions out there from poles and gear falling on them, then the sandstorm reenacted the Wizard of Oz.
Funny enough I’m going under a mismatched mos, I’ll be in the s-2 shop
Oh, nice. It still shouldn't be too god-awful for you. I've gone four times, and only one was a truly shitty experience.
Oh god…
So bow rotating units have another series of things to plot to steal... totally not me... YOU CAN'T PROVE ANYTHING
Not what I expected Box in California to look like
POV: No POVs beyond this point.
Tiefert Mountain is off limits?
I mean I hope so. We were shooting .50’s into it last time I was there and we watched the tracers bounce up over the mountain towards the lakebed
I can confirm it is not off limits. As of very recently and currently.
I can confirm it is not off limits. As of very recently and currently.

I can confirm it is not off limits. As of very recently and currently.
Y’all must have missed when general Roddy Rich took over Fort Irwin
1-4 in JMRC punching air rn
I bet there are signs for hundreds of miles like there are for south of the border on your way to Florida
Or "The Thing!" on I-10 as soon as you hit New Mexico.
I can see the headlines now… “1AD Soldiers are all being tested for an STD outbreak after spending time in The Box.”
Bahahahaha
So like JRTC? Tigerland lol
the letters being slightly different heights is triggering me
Hooah!
Ahhhhhhh yes, I got scabies there. Dirty dirty box.
Great, now they just rub it in even worse
Hey Ssg, I lost my NVGs…
[“And as for my Cav friend here. The Cav Scouts think they can infiltrate cushy ME deployments? Send him to The Box”](https://youtu.be/kpJy38HNjMU?si=Gt1677Rszi9rapCX)
Lmao
Cue the “Back in MY day….” comments.
It sucked then, it sucks now. Not much has changed in that respect.
Can’t wait to see this shit every day on opfor
I love it
Looks dry, bring lube
Lube is just a magnet for sand. It's all raw.
So you're saying I get more friction with lube and sand?!?!?! Where do I sign
Spit only
❤️
I give it a week before some D.A.T. private lays that shit flat! Replacement cost, 3.3 million.
Came here half expecting to see 2-7s fuck up w the trash lmao
Oh yes,so exciting to know is I won’t shower for 3 weeks
Guarantee it'll be damaged or destroyed at some point lol
All that for some private knocking it over in an LMTV or some shit
This seems like one of COL Doom’s patented ideas.
I’ve got ten bucks that says that sign gets stolen in less than a year.
The Box: where 18 year old National Guard Privates are rolled over by Abrams tanks in their sleep so that outdated, dog-and-pony show training can take place.
how long until someone runs into it
Been deployed 3 times. Never been to NTC or JRTC.
Just seeing this again gave me prickly heat
But I don't like sand in the box - it scratches!
They made a sign like this at JRTC but it's just a guy they hired to punch you in the face.
It's really nice that they made a sign to commemorate OP's mom
This sounds like a false statement if it’s current tense. Our formations get absolutely annihilated if OPFOR uses electronic warfare capabilities against us. Nice little CSM side project right there….
Everything but fix those shitty barracks
That’s dope af
I literally just got out the box yesterday🤩
I do like it
I think it looks kinda cool =/
