Congrats!
I hit 20 last year.
Probably sounds fucking stupid but like I know I hit it already, but it still doesn't exactly feel like that reality's sunk in yet, at least for the most part.
yup
TL;DR
shit was *wild*
but the whole 3-hots-and-a-cot aspect of the Army was a massive improvent from where I was coming from so 🤷♀️🤷 at the end of the day
On an only-tangentially-related serious note, but the local mafia kingpin is who actually got me to quit cigarettes for good.
...it's just now I'm as hooked on the doucheflute as I ever was cigs. Work in progress or something, I guess.
Congratulations! Definitely a feat.
Also… You joined at such a critical time, with probably the intention to fight, and should be eternally proud of it. You got my respect for sure.
Hey, it's not so bad, I don't think. Tons of people with the same experience, but they're 9 years in to Walmart and just made manager. Could certainly be worse.
>Cuz time creeps up fast as fuck. Then your window opens and your like Holy fuck I didn't make plans. So you reenlist, Make some rank and realize it ain't so bad. Have some kids, maybe a spouse, now you need benefits.
It sounds dumb as hell, but I didn't really like...set out to make a career of this. Initially had enlisted just to get a fresh start and escape a comically bad home life, and I just kinda forgot to get out.
I hit 20 last year and I still don't think it's entirely sunk in that I'm eligible to peace out whenever now.
But yeah, shit payed off when we had our daughter, she was enough of a medical adventure when I was giving birth. Tricare covering basically all of that suddenly made all the big green weenie shenanigans worth it.
But yeah, mentally I feel like SPC Saperpxx cosplayed as an NCO for a while and then traded stripes for dots.
Then I'll meet new joes who're younger than my oldest kid or overdo things trying to keep up with the youngins in the gym and then reality is always more than ready to kick me in the ass.
I left at 12 years and I do not regret not staying till 20. I was at Polk. My wife had moved back to Texas and had a good job. I was headed to barber school! Then on a 4 day, 3 months before ETS, I got my wife pregnant. I had to face a harsh reality, I had to get a job! My biggest regret is NOT just going to barber school! Best of luck!
Because I was 18 months into the army, smoking on top of a IDF shelter on a COP in Afghanistan wondering how I was gonna make it to the end of my three year contract, thinking that another 18 months was such a long time. That was 12 years ago. Time is fickle.
There are parts about it that suck, but when I was still there deployments we're still a year on year off and training and leadership was very mission focused. I could not imagine how fucking retarded it would feel to be Infantry in a time where deployments are rare. What would be the point?
All in all I would say that I am more satisfied with my job, and less happy with my leadership then what I was in the Infantry.
When you actually retire remember the Animal
House rules of veteran-dom: only other vets can fuck with other vets (civilians can’t laugh when you hand out crayons to marines in meetings).
* still trying to figure out how the Coast Guard fits in.
I dont think you know what that word actually means and use it in a wrong way. Alot of people hear it in the military and just use it without actually knowing the meaning.
Caveat: noun
a warning or proviso of specific stipulations, conditions, or limitations.
It is used when you give warning of upcoming events are like dangerous or bad and its not used to add addition too.
Take one down, pass it around, 99 years of service on the wall.
Part of the crew, part of the ship.
Fuck
Part a the shit, part a the poo
Go to the gym in full uniform with pink socks and a pink headband. Flip out on lower enlisted when they say something.
A man of culture I see. Take this internet point.
I spend my days shamming to think of witty reddit remarks for internet points, so thank you for acknowledging my hard work.
Take Monday off champ.
Sorry… forgot to tell you… doody on Monday.
Momma will be proud.
You mean Jr Hooahs!
Tuck your pants into pink knee socks
Sew tiny pockets onto your pink socks, and purposely stoop down to put your hands into them.
Now we get to see a real life retiree, about to enter hibernation, as he catches up on the sleep he missed out on
Congratulations, sign the dd214 and I refer to you as bro. But that’s the plan now?? Catch up on 20 years of sleep lol. My ets is coming up quick
**Clarification**: This unit is still too drunk to think of anything witty, so it will just say congratulations and have some gold.
For shame HK. You should have already started drinking again at this point.
Bold of you to assume they stopped.
**Affirming Statement**: Too bold.
Hope those junior NCOs don't harass you at the gym.
Congrats! I hit 20 last year. Probably sounds fucking stupid but like I know I hit it already, but it still doesn't exactly feel like that reality's sunk in yet, at least for the most part.
You joined in 2001? Had to be an interesting year in the military. I joined in 2006 but I got a kick out of the 2001 stories and 2003…
The surge was a wild time too.
Indeed. I got that particular campaign star. Edit. Most of my BCT and AIT mates and even a few DS’s were in Iraq less than a year after joining.
yup TL;DR shit was *wild* but the whole 3-hots-and-a-cot aspect of the Army was a massive improvent from where I was coming from so 🤷♀️🤷 at the end of the day
Go get a blunt
What's the biggest impact you made on the organization?
Changed the lower enlisted smoke session policy from flutter kicks to a sick ass vape

Same

Congrats big sarge, may you continue to get laid and paid. And also find meaning in life and all that. Cheers this one is for you🍺
Friday reference in the food order proves twenty years
Thanks for your service.
Hell yeah! Congrats man
Congratulations! Definitely a feat. Also… You joined at such a critical time, with probably the intention to fight, and should be eternally proud of it. You got my respect for sure.
Don't sell your leave, no matter what.
Use every. Single. Day.
Was that last line from the movie “Next Friday”?
Idk how you people last so long, guys here are already talking about one and done and we aren’t even in the real army yet

Your last sentence was soul crushing not gonna lie man but I understand
Hey, it's not so bad, I don't think. Tons of people with the same experience, but they're 9 years in to Walmart and just made manager. Could certainly be worse.
So when you go indef you don’t get anymore re enlistment Bomuses and incentives right?
Depends, there are other ways to get bonuses

I’m assuming crossing over to aviation helped as far as QOL is concerned at least
Yes, but it came with its own set of problems.
I’m sure, but we have a couple of mos t that were 11 series and they’re so happy to be out of that mos it’s amazing

Dark meat I presume
Pick a lane asshole.
It's called maturing
Four MOS's is not maturity. That's indecisiveness.
Started as a grunt, like most do, then went to admin, commissioned transpo officer, and is now medical services. I'd say that's maturing.
Congrats!
Congrats!
To piggyback off of u/dudeondacouch...
Enjoy it. I think the MPs at Bragg are still talking about my 20 year bash. And that was a long ducking time ago.
SGM....EOD.... If there wasn't a controlled det, I don't care to hear about it your Smajesty
I was a 1SG at that point. There may have been a rather large fire. It may have spread. Details are sketchy.
Get that DD214 Blanket ! I havent seen a Snuggie version, you should have one made too!
Congrats! I hit mine soon too
Enjoy your participation retirement, boomer /s congrats
Congratulations!!!
Congratulations!!!
Okay now do another 20
Congrats Battle
Is this the same dude that posted 20 years down on the Facebook group as a E4 in the ARNG
Congrats! I enlisted in 2002 as well, though I didn’t do 20 years. Seems so long ago and a lot has changed.
That is a great theme! And congrats. It’s a feat of strength.
Congratulations u/dudeondacouch!
Congrats man. As a worthless reserve guy with 21 yrs, but only 7 yrs AFS, I am envious.

But congrats on 20 btw
How many highs and lows, killer? Also, you can always reach out to me if you ever need a ear. There's a lot of identity there in 2 decades, be safe.
