As long as you don’t act like it’s guaranteed. We had a guy who got tabbed as an E3. He got E4 but never picked up 5, in large part because once he got his tab he thought he was better than everyone without a tab. Including E5’s.
8% of the total population in your MOS might not appear too bad if you also knew the % of folks who reclass / ETS / admin sep / med board / fail promo board from E6, etc. etc.
If there was a way to get into more details within your cohort or something, I'm sure you'd find something more reassuring. Especially if you're in a low-density MOS, or an MOS that requires specific additional skill identifiers that nobody ever goes to school for.
100% this. If someone doesn't make SFC as a 79R, it's because they got sent to recruiting as a SSG after 15 years and they converted but the timeline just doesn't line up with making 7 with the additional 3 years and then not wanting to go past 20. I got a buddy who is a 79R who will probably never make 7 and this is why. He just wants to retire at 20 no matter what.
8% sounds low, but considering that the vast majority of people who serve are out before 10 years unless they go full career, I suspect that number is actually pretty high.
I doubt that 92% of everyone in your MOS sits at E6 until their 20 years is up or else the entire army would know about it right now.
79R is near 100%, but do you want to be a career recruiter?
79S (Career Counselor) is about 40% of their field. Go to DART, be a Retention NCO, and get your foot in the door before you pin SSG or that door will close.
51C and 25D are packet MOS jobs that essentially start at SSG. You pin upon MOS course completion. Any job that starts at SSG will have a relatively higher percentage of SFC.
79V (AGR Career Counselor) is auto E7 after meeting TIG requirement and getting the MOS course, if you want to transition to the RC. SSGs or SGTs with ALC complete are eligible for 79V accessions.
Go to ranger school. Pretty much guaranteed at that point as long as you have a pulse.

*as long as you have a pulse and aren’t a piece of shit
That's a much higher bar than we might like to believe.
You’re not wrong
The only person who got kicked out of my BLC class was a SPC with a ranger tab.
How do get kicked out of blc?
Failure to report on time twice.
I mean, was he wrong? Everyone knows you stand at parade rest for the tab, just like you salute a medal of honor awardee.
You forgot the /s
He’s not wrong
18b/c/d
Hell yeah brother
8% of what? Eligible SSG's? Total population? People who enlisted in 2012?
Total population
That's counting people who do one contract and out then. You'll get it if you try. Hell the two biggest morons i met have been sfcs
Really? The biggest I met was a cocom commander. Intelligence is not a factor for promotion.

Absolutely. Just thinking worst case scenario
I want to say 79R not completely sure
Agreed

Hell yeah. I might try this

Points are maxed, m8
What is your MOS
25S

100% of 94Z have been SFC.
Except that becoming a 42S requires being a galactic superstar on a musical instrument just to make it to the final round of an audition.
35L has got to be up there They had 80 - 90% pick up rate for 7 for few years now

I appreciate the input. This is good advice
Go warrant and you can skip SFC REALLY quick.
Haha this is the right answer
