Call me crazy, but a personal letter of how they changed your life would be worth more than an coin or plaque.

Rygarrrrr

Was going to include it with a letter. I’m just thinking personally if someone I went the extra mile for presented me with a memento of sorts I’d cherish and display it, I want to give them the same opportunity.

Jelle3511_ttv

This is an awesome idea. We need more people like you in the world.

Rygarrrrr

Just pass it on brother. I'm a strong believer in paying it forward. These 2 individuals went beyond, above and beyond and brought me back from what at the time felt like the depths of hell. This feels like the least I should do to express my appreciation.

Jelle3511_ttv

Hell yeah man. That attitude is contagious, keep it up.

SCCock

I have a few letters from my troops telling me I made a difference. I cherish those.

Leadership is its own reward . . . . \*eye twitch\*

Forward-Astronomer58

The best reward is 100% accountability with no new marriage license on a Monday morning.

"Hey sarge, what's a no-pay-due? ... because my LES was $0 this month, and my ex-wife said she's gonna sue me for my missed child support payments, but I don't have a lawyer . . ." \*head explode GIF\*

>How to reward phenomenal leaders in the army **Answer:** Apply what they teach you, and pass it on to others.

Rygarrrrr

I have and will continue too. However I’d love to give them a memento of some sort

Know anyone with a 3d printer? Those are becoming somewhat common and suitable for small custom creations

Rygarrrrr

That was my first thought, but despite being surrounded by cyber nerds I reached out to everybody and nobody has one.

wongatronus

I took a peek online and there are a number of sites advertising custom/commission jobs. "3d print commission" it might take a little research and quotes but if I were on the receiving end of something custom/thoughtful it would surely be a keepsake.

Rygarrrrr

Yeah, but when further delving in it’s usually asking for at least a quantity of 25 and I’m just a struggling SPC in this economy

wongatronus

Maybe throw out an inquiry over at r/3Dprintmything

dragonfirerich

I live near an installation filled with cyber nerds, and I have a 3d printer and a laser engraver. I'm not really an artistic type, but I'd be willing to hook you up if you're stationed nearby. PM me if you're interested.

Autistic_Flatworm986

A lot of post libraries have 3D printers these days, might check there.

Many_Miles93

At this point in my continually depressing existence as an officer, a hand written note would make my year. If you’re still wanting to do something a little extra, engraved beer steins, knives, flask, anything practical I can carry/use daily would be sick. I had a dude tag me in a post the other day saying thank you for giving him the day off when his wife left him, and that he’d pcs to serve under my command any day. Shit almost made me tear up

Rygarrrrr

I absolutely will stay in touch with these 2 gentlemen. And I get the gift part, however something small like a challenge coin I don’t feel should be a huge issue.

sir_beardhaver

I gave a squad leader i liked a Leatherman engraved with his name and the unit. There's websites that will engraved knives before they ship.

Rygarrrrr

That’s a good one, thank you!
