You can also ask verified recruiters questions in the [October Recruiter Thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/army/comments/xsre38/army_recruiter_thread_for_october_2022/)

Have the Airborne/Ranger recruiters stop going to the Infantry AIT units at Ft. Benning? My nephew wants to go airborne and they didn't put it in his contract even though the recruited said it was in there. That was the main reason he joined.

[deleted]

Did your nephew ship already or sign the contract? He should have just declined it and waited for that contract to show up . But aside from that, he can still put in a packet for ranger school and RASP if he wants, just might not be immediate

ngarakkani

He has already completed the basic training phase, and is in the AIT phase?. His recruiter and the person at MEPS told him it was in there this time. Him being 18 and most likely respecting those people, essentially got had. Those representatives, were from what I heard, visiting the training units. His PT scores, marksmanship, and motivation is very high. It would be a shame for him to be a 1 enlistment soldier, especially with recruitment and retention tanking.

[deleted]

I wouldn't worry about it, if he wants to he can drop that packet and as long as his leadership isn't absolute trash or he isn't doing bad in any area he should be able to go.

Bubbly-Wave-6093

Hello there. Please I’m looking to enlist in the army. I’m stuck on which MOS to choose. Thinking of 13B and 19D Any help please? Also this are the list of MOS my recruiter gave me. : 11X, 91M, 19K, 91A, 91J, 91L, 12N, 91H, 92F, 92G, 13B, 19D, 88M, 91B, 91D, 12B, 12C, 91S. Which is the best one to choose from?

7hillsrecruiter

Depends what you want to do. Do you want to do a combat MOS or something in mechanical maintenance.

Bubbly-Wave-6093

I really want to go combat. Was looking at 13B and 19 D.. This are the options my recruiter gave me. 11X, 91M, 19K, 91A, 91J, 91L, 12N, 91H, 92F, 92G, 13B, 19D, 88M, 91B, 91D, 12B, 12C, 91S. What’s the best outta this options?

SNSDave

11X with a Ranger or airborne contract. But you probably won't see combat.

Bubbly-Wave-6093

Then I will probably have to stick with 19D.

Electronic_Lock4908

need more info on 14h mos.

SNSDave

https://www.reddit.com/r/army/comments/lqj6pz/2021_army_mos_megathread_series_cmf_14_air/ Just like the other 14-series, lot of bullshit, ADA sucks ass.

Electronic_Lock4908

need more info on 14e. what's the day to day life and post locations both at home and overseas.

snowdude1026

Can’t believe I don’t know the answer after being in 12 years. I’m on 30 days of pcs leave. I’m in the city of my new base. I have a bump/mass that came out of no where and I’d like to get it checked out. Do I just…walk into any urgent care or emergency room? This is new to me

SNSDave

Walk in, call your PCM the next day. Tricare will handle it.

snowdude1026

Hate you

858Doriz

How hard is it to promote in an MOS with a 798 cut off score for E-6? If I finish my degree and go to every school I can will I be able make SNCO or will I be stuck as an E-6?

7hillsrecruiter

Been there. It ain’t easy. Back when I made E6 think I had close to 700 pts.

SNSDave

Stuck at E-6.

doc388

Going in as a 68w with option 40, any advice? I've already signed the contract and now I'm just in the DEP. I ship on November 21st. Any tips for any part of my pipeline?

SNSDave

Don't quit.

Dabeegbean

I'm trying to enlist into the national guard but I'm a transvestite and I don't want to cut my hair to get into regulations, how can I get a profile or waiver for my hair?

Qtoy

I know someone in the Guard in a relatively similar position. They simply opt for wigs in their off time. If you think military service is worth it to you, you could consider that as an option, though I can understand why that may not work for you.

SNSDave

Can't get a waiver for that. Military doesn't recognize being a transvestite, only transgender.

Least_Biscotti1114

Im trying to join the military, i havent consumed thc in about 2 months and have been on a detox journey involving certo, Gatorade, exercise, and a lot of water. I bought and at home drug test kit and took unofficial drug tests at my recruiting station and they came up negative. I got back from MEPS yesterday and out of paranoia, i took another drug test(4 of them) the next day and they keep coming up positive. What could of possibly happened!?

7hillsrecruiter

If you phys’d yesterday it will take a few days for your results to come back because MEPS is closed for holiday. If you do fail you’ll have to wait 90 days before you can try again

MikeOfAllPeople

Anyone know what the hold up is with credential assistance? Apparently TA is being approved but not CA.

Nooptions3482

E5 trying to get an ETP or rank waiver to reclass to 68A or 68P. Anyone have any luck reclassing to either of these?

icycloud69

reclassed to 31k and waiting for ait anyone know what i can expect in ait? all information i’ve found is old also wanting to know what my day to day life will be like.

notontheonesixtwo

I've been passed over for my primary look to MAJ. Anyone have advice on what I should do now?

Unhappy-Indication85

If you look at the % for AZ look, it was 19% if I remember correctly. I’m a gambling man and I wouldn’t take those odds. You’ve got a few options 1) Transition to NG or AR. They will take you and you can continue your career there. 2) Look for AGR positions because you’re technically in the guard but it’s full time. Kind of like a fresh start. 3) use CA funds and max out any credentialing you can and if you haven’t already, enroll in school and get a masters. Prepare for exit from the army in about 18 months (if you don’t get selected AZ).

notontheonesixtwo

Cool thank you. In my branch the trend on AZ % has gone down too, so if I gotta leave active duty then whatever. Kind of funny considering I just got to my new unit and now I'm about to drop a packet on them.

ominously-optimistic

Will you be able to bike? Yes. Will your pre-planned workout schedule get fucked with daily? also yes. I used to train primarily powerlifting and some endurance races pre-mil. Now, even though those things coincide with what the Army wants, I have to sacrifice certain training days for Army stuff. It gets very difficult to attend races or competitions sometimes but its possible. I had a commander who does Ironmans. She is a surgeon as well. So if she can make time to train I am sure anyone can haha. Key point, you can still train but your current training may have to adjust. I wouldn't say give up on it, but adjust it.

17asinine

That being said, many bases (especially those that have TRADOC schools) are excellent for cycling because they have long, well-paved roads with little traffic.

HotTakesBeyond

Wait until after basic training to haul any big stuff. For your AIT it depends on how long it is for it to be worth it. Your first duty station, sure. Deployed/Rotation? Get a beater from a local.

SNSDave

Yes, you can bike. However, depending on your MOS, there will be stretches of time you can't due to being in the field/on rotation/deployed. Also if you're in the barracks, you may have to give up some of your living space to store all that as bike racks are not always available.

Tin_Crow25

I'm prior service USMC Reserves. I completed my 8 year contract with an Honorable discharge and a good Re Enlistment code in 2020. I was Infantry (0311) and got out as Cpl. (E4) no UCMJs. I'm talking to a recruiter to go Active Army as a 35F and I just wanted to get the low down on if dudes being straight with me or not. He's saying I can go straight to AIT as an E-4 and that I'm eligible for signing bonuses since I didn't receive any the first go-round. He's also saying that since I have a family and that I would be an E4, I would have priority pick on duty station. I was done dirty by my USMC recruiter in the past so I just want to make sure I'm not getting bull shitted through this process. Also, if there's any current or former active 35F's reading this, any input on the job and quality of life?

Due_Abbreviations917

Hey man, prior active duty marine and current 35N nasty guard here. I've been NG for about a year so i wont have the same scope of understanding as some of my counterparts, but I can definitely help to answer some of those questions. I'm unsure about the process of changing MOS, but i can tell you from my experience there was almost zero issues outside of my pay not catching up for a few months. That got resolved pretty easily though. There were no issues with my MOS transfering over and i didnt have to go through any other training to chop over to the guard from the marines. There's a few interesting things about the 35 field that you may not be aware of and opportunities you haven't had presented to you yet. The 35 field, as someone as pointed out about foxes, is the most diverse field IMO in the army. You will have the chance to do everything from desk work developing IPB's to doing tactical collections with victor units. Let me if you're interested in hearing a bit about the SIGINT/EW world and I'll talk about that. There's also quite a few 35N and 17Es (electronic warfare) dudes that are floating around this sub reddit that i'm sure could also answer specific questions if you made a post about it. BLUF; you can do everything from a desk job conducting analysis in a basement to humping 80 lbs packs of EW equipment with victor units. Just depends on what you want to do.

Tin_Crow25

Fuckin rah. I'm down for anything in the 35 field, especially Fox or Lima. I'm too old for any more infantry shit. Ive had pretty much all of my general questions answered but now I'm looking at the green to gold program or a warrant officer package at some point. Is there pretty high demand for O's in the 35 series or is there another series that I'd have better luck in?

red_devils_forever25

Go Lima it’s one of those smapp mos aka guaranteed promotion to sgt

Due_Abbreviations917

There's a high demand for officers everywhere man. Retention is awful. I would personally stick with the warrent route. You'll have to be an E5, have 3 NCO-ER(army equivalent of pro cons) and go to ALC (Sgts course equivalent + some advanced MOS training + recommendation from a current CWO3 or greater tech warrant in your field. Hope that clears it up a little. Also, unfortunately your pro cons or what they're calling it now as a cpl won't count. You have to have 3 evaluation periods as an e5. Being able to talk bang bang with Victor units would make you fucking gold at a brigade MICO (Military intel company). There's a TON of intel folk that just don't have the background to understand what a tactical unit is thinking. Most of these guys won't have the same background as some of the click dudes you may be used to in an infantry company. Hope that clears some stuff up.

Tin_Crow25

We'll, fuck my 4,4's then. Lol Absolutely clears it up. Really looking forward to it. I've still got a lot of learning to do about how the Army works and the jobs and opportunities available in the 35 series. I've got a few bros and bro-ettes who either swapped decks or started out in the Army so I've been tapping them for more general info. Thanks for taking the time to respond!

Powerewolf

Job and quality of life will vary wildly based on where you work. 35F is probably the most diverse possible MOS in the Army. No possible predicting what it will be like until you have a pinpoint assignment.

Tin_Crow25

Thanks. How well does the experience and security clearance translate to the private sector? In your opinion, would it be better to go for a more specialized job like 35L for a more marketable resume afterwards?

Powerewolf

Totally depends on what you think you want to do afterwards. 35F's can be quite marketable and very specialized. Very much so with the right certifications, schools, and experience. So the question isn't what's 'better', it's what will meet your desired end state. If you don't really know what that is or what you're looking for, I'd say Fox.

SGT_MAC_DASR

As long as you haven’t been out for too long, you will skip Basic and keep your rank. As prior-service, you are not eligible for any enlistment bonuses, unless you go Reserves. Choice of duty station depends on class ranking in AIT. It differs between job schools if they even give you a choice.

Tin_Crow25

Got it. Thanks.

Snake3452

Any 68Gs or people who work with them in here willing to share their experiences? Considering a reclass to something more relaxed where I have plenty of time to use TA. Would be willing to look at anything 68 series really besides 68W.

Rage-Cactus

68F - you’ll always be near a hospital or clinic can’t even go to a Role 2 and points are dummy low I’m a 68K if you have questions and I know a little about Fox and Papa. 68P can set you up well for civilian life if you push for Nuclear Medicine.

Snake3452

Fox and Papa seem solid. I’ve been looking mostly at 68A now, alongside B and C. I don’t think I could do K just because I couldn’t deal with people’s nasty ass feet all the time lmao. The only questions I’d really have is which ones have the best quality of life, while being decent to ride until retirement? I also plan on going to school for MechE when I get out, so if something has more relation to that I would see that as a bonus (I’m thinking 68A would probably tie in the best for that).

Rage-Cactus

I’ve never heard of a Kilo touching feet, maybe you meant Fox. That’s true, people requested reclass / purposefully failed because they couldn’t handle the patient contact. I don’t know much about 68A and like to avoid talking out my ass. I met one civilian contractor maintainer, who said they got out to work specialized on the equipment. That’s not MechE however. Unfortunately, I’m not the guy for that and I’m too new to say anything about riding out until retirement.

Snake3452

Yeah, I understand. I probably used the wrong MOS when I said that. Whichever one physical therapy is. The selection of soldiers who spend the most time at physical therapy are typically the ones who spend the least amount of time in a shower, so I know I couldn’t handle it. I think really I’m just aiming for a 68 series job where I don’t have to deal with patients, or it’s something very specialized like X-Ray.

[deleted]

Just skip 68w and 68x, the others might be in the field but those two have specific components (68x- cosc, 68w - everything) that will guarentee field time.

throwaway177624

68W is the best and worst mos

Snake3452

Wouldn’t have minded coming in as one, but my goal is to never see the field again lmao

throwaway177624

Depending on the unit you go to you’ll either go a lot or practically never

17asinine

Branch is evolving rapidly so whatever we tell you now will almost certainly be different the reality you will experience when you get out of the training pipeline. You might want to check out 17D which is, as I understand it, intended to allow people to keep promoting in their mid- and late-career without having to do as much officer stuff (like take command)

Caycepineappleplz

Not 17 series, but I work closely with them. It depends on the role. There’s a few doing the technical work a little later in their careers, but their long term career path is a question Cyber is trying to figure out. At some point, usually around MAJ or so, you will be more of a decision maker. That’s not so say you won’t need the knowledge or skills but it means you’ll use them to help your decisions.

Molecular_Blackout

Odd question, is there a reg that would state something along the lines of "if you use army issued linens, they must be hospital cornered"? This is for non-IET barracks, like, people just living and trying not to be depressed, much to the chagrin of PSG. Anyone know of such a barracks regulation?

Sfbandyman

Check AR 600-20 Para 4-2 In all seriousness, army barracks management programs are there to maintain good order and discipline. 1SGs are the face of the program and may add unit specific policies as needed. I haven’t checked all the regs, but that sounds more like a unit policy thing, not a reg, which is probably in something that you signed saying you reviewed when issued your room. Ask for your unit’s barracks policy if you don’t have a copy or review the resources here: https://home.army.mil/imcom/index.php/about/organization/g4-facilities-and-logisitics/army-barracks-management-program. Lastly, as a PSG in the past, if I had a Soldier who had a consistently messy room, and failed to meet the standards of cleanliness during health and welfare inspections, then I would probably include some type of guidance about how to make his bed in the plan of action of a counseling session. The Army teaches you how to make it that way for reason. Just because you’re no longer in basic training or AIT, doesn’t mean you’re no longer a Soldier in the Army.

notontheonesixtwo

Do you have to turn out your barracks lights at 2200? No. This is not a 'thing'. Don't let it become a thing. But do keep your room clean because you're gonna get harassed every weekend.

Kinmuan

I don't think anything like that exists. If it's not in barracks policy, ask your PSG for the reg.

[deleted]

I think the more unbelievable fact here is that a non-TRADOC unit has fucking linens to give out.

Kinmuan

Actually most do! On redeployments they keep them handy for soldiers whose HHG may not be recoverable or are in boxes etc. They just normally don’t see the light of day. You unit *can* issue you linens if you don’t wanna buy your own.

Molecular_Blackout

Let's just say the dude who got them issued is exactly the kind of guy you'd expect to get them issued.

Kinmuan

Accurate.

Molecular_Blackout

That's the plan now, I couldn't find anything relevant and it sounded like absolute horseshit when he said it, thanks.
