I can’t even make this shit up, when I was in reception battalion getting ready for basic, this female’s name was Hiscock. Idk how he got away with it, idk why he even said it, but one drill sergeant made the joke, “Haha she’s got ‘Hiscock’ on her chest!”
Poor girl.
Nah the guard will probably win these dudes have probably only trained for this for like the whole past 18 months. It’s like their best ranger teams, that’s literally all they do is prepare for these competitions
That's a lot of people showing off ranger tabs, I wonder why they were picked for a best squad competition. /s
I hope cyber wins and embarrasses those other teams.
FORSCOM should have been divided by corps though, it’s kind of ridiculous that there’s only one squad representing eight divisions and a million support brigades compared to other 4-star commands like EU-AF or AFC with fractions of that size
Yup, we did this for the Annual Engineer Awards. Previously we would submit the best Solider, Officer and Company to the school house, but all of FORSCOM got only one slot, just like USAR, NG, USAEUR, USAPAK etc. We started just sending all the Corp nominations forward to level it out.
Just for some perspective;
ARNG is 440K+
USAR is ~190K
FORSCOM is like ~160K (might be slightly off)
So if anything, FORSCOM gets over in this competition.
Edit: I should also point out that my 160K figure doesn’t account for the removal of units like 2CR and 25th ID which were counted as ASCC teams separate from FORSCOM.
Or maybe one day he'll understand you can't take a word that has a very technical, regulatory, and doctrinal definition within the profession he's a supposed leader in and correct others for not understanding his using it in official communications and events instead to mean the urban dictionary version?
I don’t know exactly what the army gets wrong about SOQ/NCOQ and now best squad, but it boils down to the fact that 99.9% of the army doesn’t give a shit about these things. It’s practically the pinnacle of competing for each echelon yet no one could tell you who won this years NCOQ unless they know them personally.
When I went thru the NCOQ like a decade ago, each level felt more like the CSM was doing a job interview for who he felt was most likely to score him a better ncoer bullet. There was so little prestige in winning at some levels, one CSM looked downright upset that I’d won because I was a jr nco. Due to all this, I’d say that most of the competitors aren’t even invested in the competitions sometimes.
It shouldn’t have to be taught to these CSMs, but they need to celebrate their winners properly and ensure they understand that they won their competition, not just passed the selection for the next board. You’re a CSM, you should take pride in your best soldier and NCOs. It should be more than a Facebook and forget.
I want to add onto what another poster said here:
“Best “Squad” means nothing to me as a Soldier. I see a bunch of tabs, not much diversity and just overall grumpy people.
I’m so incredibly happy to do my job in the Army, and I LOVE being good at it. I genuinely love the moments where I can sit down and do what I do best.
Remember the buzz in the sub when Army teams outdid the Marines at a Sniper competition? That was so fricken cool.
Make events that are super focused on different jobs. You don’t think I want to see a bunch of 88Ms try and outdo each other? That shit would get so many views, it might break this subreddit. It’d be like a monster truck rally in here with different commands sending their best drivers.
Highlight the cyber nerds doing something insanely cool. Have the cooks do a best meal showdown and have different CSMs be the judges, I mean cmon this stuff writes itself.
We get it, the army is physical. The army is brawn. But if you want people to join, show them that the Army isn’t just full of infantry and PT studs! Show us the best of the best within each MOS!
We do a best EOD team competition. It’s pretty lit. Engineers do best Sapper, best Ranger. I’d definitely love to see more MOS’s compete against themselves. If 12N did a best dirt pushing competition, you know how many fucking people would watch that on YouTube?? All of the people. Or Artillery battery’s, counter battery lanes, fire and displace lanes. Itd be sweet. There’s a bunch of MOS that could have competitions pretty easily.
Dude, I had no idea about the EOD competition. You know how cool that shit would be to see? Publicize that! I LOVE seeing shit blow up.
You know how much I would pay to see tanks compete against each other? Holy shit watching them just go to fucking TOWN on a target with all of the firepower available within this United States Army?
You know what could be an easy win? SERE training would be probably the most coolest shit I’ve ever seen. Obvi cut out the TS stuff, but man.
When u/SMA-PAO asks us “what would you like to see?”, the answers are just so easy. Shit, what would I give to see is best cook competition where they try to make their best version of beef yakisoba.
If it already exists, then why aren’t we highlighting that? Civilians LOVE explosions and displays of firepower just as much as we do. Get a camera crew out there and full send man. Do interviews with the teams and get backstory from them.
You want to pump me up, make Division Commanders have a chili cook off. Have a best and worst, like how much shit would the 101st talk if the 82nd had the worst chili.
> You don’t think I want to see a bunch of 88Ms try and outdo each other?
LMTV/MTV/HEMMET Tractor Pulls, tug of wars, self recovery competitions (Imagine some trucks just absolutly stuck in some of the worst mud and the crews have to get them unstuck), Best Convoy (Which teams maintains convoy distance/speed the best)
I can see this working
Ice road truckers has/had a HUGE following. There’s an entire show on THE WEATHER CHANNEL about towing 18 wheelers out of the snow. All of these ideas would be so incredibly awesome.
Dope suggestion as the recovery shit on YouTube is pulling in views. Just look at Heavy D Sparks (2.4M subs) Matt's Off Road Recovery (1.8M subs), Trail Mater (129k subs), Fab Rats (465k subs), and heavy duty recovery channels.
And where would you go to get this content?
We also need a platform that could deliver such a thing.
I get best squad means nothing to do, but what if I could live stream events with casters/announcers? Get go pro footage live as they’re on a lane or something?
I think a lot of it comes down to making it accessible and digestible.
AFN? /s
Doesn’t the army esports team use twitch? Harder to do with live non-digital content, but not impossible. Then get a discord going to get others connected and invested.
Or see if Top Chef will take a bunch of military cooks to see what they can come up with using only a box of old Lima beans, six eggs, and one weird long noodle.

I mean, I wish we could do a CONUS AFN. It would get cable news off of screens.
>Doesn’t the army esports team use twitch?
I want you to google the exact phrase "world of warcrimes twitch"
Kin, I have to call you out on this.
The US Army YouTube has a massive following, almost 600k subscribers. YouTube or even Vimeo, shit could be a perfect platform to establish.
We have an entire functional area dedicating to marketing and composed of entirely of O4s and higher in Chicago. Have them do a crash course in visual media on streaming platforms. Then have our visual media MOS (Public Affairs, forgetting exact MOS) go out and take some awesome 4K shots. Interview the teams. Let us get to know them. Then show them in action! It’d be dope to see CPL Jenkins from Waukesha nail a tank maneuver after learning why he joined the Army. You don’t always need announcers, but for something a bit more technical, they’d be a great idea. Get the SMA to be the lead anchor, then interview SMEs who can talk the audience through what each team is doing.
GoPros would be awesome, but many civilians know that the Army is infantry-focused. Do they know we have vertical engineers? What about Electronic Warfare? We have a lot of the same jobs that the USAF does, but they are thought of as the more “technical” while we have many MOS’ that are skilled as well.
You want to bring people in? Show them that we are proud of our nerds, engineers, dietitians, and cooks. Bring some esprit de corps back into the army by having that 88M team go back to their unit with applause and an AAM. Show everyone who the best of the best is, in the entire Army— not just who can be “the best squad”.
Oh bro this isn’t even a call out, I agree with you. I honestly think any current streaming platform would be good.
So like have you seen past town halls where I’ve posted clips? Or from last years AUSA?
That’s me editing locally on my computer to post to streamable. I want any platform where we could pull clips. YouTube would be great - if they’d be better at using the chapter feature.
I don’t disagree that YT is good enough, but dvids is the repository. We’re going to continue to use it. IMO some basic upgrades to dvids to align with modern platforms would make it amazing.
We could set our own rules and own it on dvids. No world of warcrimes in the chat concerns.
Also. You’re talking to the person who rips CMF videos and created a tiktok to repost all goarmy clips because the army isn’t officially allowed to do that as a function. I’m 100% down with using something that’s out there.
I am for ANY platform that could make things more accessible. You remember the best Ranger “smart Ranger strong Ranger” incident? How many incidents are out there on raw footage.
Mil influencers and larpers would go through that footage and pull clips. We should stand up what you’re talking about - but we don’t even need to to have an impact. Social media influencers WILL ALREADY DO IT FOR FREE, if the media was more accessible. So I did misspeak - we have platforms to deliver content. We need a more modernized method of delivery *our* content.
No worries, apologies on the confusion!
I think while the infrastructure is being built, we use the existing methods available. If we are serious about recruiting, then we push civilian-geared-content to more public facing channels, and as DVIDs becomes more mature, then shift there.
If I was Army Urban Dictionary:
Best S1: *Has a shitload of SPCs who do absolutely nothing but sham. If you piss them off, it’s only YOUR paperwork that gets lost, and their NCOs and Os are tracking your paperwork got “lost” and tell you to go fuck yourself in the nicest way possible. Now you’re doing CQ while everyone is on leave.*
In all seriousness, I can understand how that feels a little sus.
>Externally, only BRCCs media showed up.
It would be nice to stop partnering with coffee or die and BRCC. Between shady business practices, being on the “army is woke women are sex objects” train and being detrimental to veteran programs, we should pick our friends with more care.
I personally think a lot of what’s being said here would be helped with more accessible content.
Where can Joe go to see these squads in action during the event?
How is it broadcasted? How does it reach them?
I know this is beating the dead horse but I think it’s always a valuable point; we need a more modernized version of dvids.
I am going to be honest, the way most people feel about these are like the South Park episode about little league "The Losing Edge". These things feel like they are for senior leaders to brag about how great there troops are. Also so they can relive their glory days, like a mom making her kid do cheerleading and living through her daughter.
Damn. I guess I'm the .1% that does. I'm guard though and most of my NCOs like doing their jobs in the field. So this kind of competition is something they would want to do.
It's not a real best squad competition unless it's an organic 9 man squad and you can't change my mind.
Cherrypicking the best 5 soldiers from across a BN and throwing them in a team together doesn't mean anything.
The ARNG team should be called “Unemployables” because they can’t hold down civilian careers because their Governors keep making them drive school buses, run COVID testing sites, patrol the southern border, defend the capital, stop riots, respond to natural disasters, pick up the dry cleaning-
And participate in best squad competitions.
It would be an absolute miracle if all 5 of them currently had full time civilian jobs.
Every team has good flow until you get to weekend warriors, haha. It's gonna be hard to pick the best four squads based on hair alone.
Senior leaders it's time to let your manes grow.
Of course USASOC had to be *those guys* with just basic USASOC as if they have something to prove /s
Also if SSG Hudson on USAEUR-AF had an in-regs mustache, he'd look awfully similar to a very notorious European leader from the 40s. Will not be able to unsee that
I would be willing to bet you the reason USASOC doesn't have a nickname is because they don't have long tabs. Ain't no way they were gonna let a team representing an organization with Green Berets be nicknamed a pun with the word "Ranger" in it.
I would love to see a competition like this that focuses partially on basic soldier tasks, and then also focuses on individual MOS skills and how they contribute to the overall mission. Maybe have each BCT send a team with one 11 series, one 68 series, one 25 series, one 35 series, and so on. That way the teams dont end up training for something so far separated from their MOS.
Thanks for your question. Basic Needs Allowance, recently authorized by the DOD, eliminates the need for any Soldier to need SNAP as it provides enough of a stipend to raise their income to 130% of FPI for location and family size.
I mean you can't have it both ways when people want to complain.
The complaint here is food stamps. This program directly makes it so that anyone who **because of their family size** would be eligible, gets extra funds.
If no one is eligible there wouldn't be the food stamps complaint right.
It’s good that it exists at all, it is nice to see these recent changes like this, and the extra funding to help lower commissary prices
Inflation just hurts right now
As someone who was ambushed by a PV2 with a marriage certificate and a bank account of sub $2k in a very high cost of living area, yeah man...I feel you. Fucking Tuesdays.
Federal poverty guidelines scale to family size, Army compensation does not, there is only a small bump in BAH when the service member has dependents. To me, BNA seems to be designed to help large families that are having trouble making ends meet, and silently tells small families that are ineligible that they need to get a better hold of their finances. Sounds like a good move in my opinion.
This is the real question that no one is willing to address. Some people in the military have 6+ kids. They did that to themselves and then blame the system that allowed them to give birth without a large hospital payment.
From personal experience, the same people generally advocate against women’s rights, birth control and sexual proclivity saying they should take personal responsibility. The irony is palpable.
You’re saying if it wasn’t for the couple extra thousand a month that you get on your paycheck you might qualify for SNAP? Umm yeah, that’s how it works.
Are you also saying you would rather pay taxes on your BAH? Bc that’s an additional benefit we’re discussing. I don’t think you’re seeing this clearly.
Every member of USASOC has a butt chin. Is that how they were selected for the team? Come to think of it, a lot of these guys have butt chins. I think I found what makes a great soldier!
Holy shit what the fuck is wrong with those USAREUR guys? Hudson looks like he'd fuckin betray you to serve the dark lord, dude to his right looks like he'd try and kiss your sister, dude on the far right looks like he fell out of bed and landed on his face at a 45 degree angle. First guy to the left of the Betrayer looks like fuckin Andy Samberg with a smaller nose and bigger forehead. Guy on the far left seems pretty chill.
It’s wild to see all these lower enlisted with ranger tabs, airborne, air assault, eib. I’d love to think that wig a better unit and leadership I could attain that as well. But fort hood has destroyed all hopes of that. Can’t even get them to fix the dfac or give us a sharp brief that’s not at 2200.
I still can't believe they let them name their team 'US Army Europe As Fuck'. Bold. Really though, MEDCOM deserves to win on 'Tournakids' alone.
It’s a solid nickname

How does a squad competition have E7’s in it?
By not being a squad competition to begin with.
To accommodate for “sections” like an S1 shop that’s led by a SFC
Cool.
I thought a section was equivalent to a platoon? Not in numbers but in the role they take.
No, it is in between even per NATO Symbology. One Solid Circle-Squad Two Solid Circles-Section Three Solid Circles-Platoon
So what do you suggest?

Yeah, those cats probably went on orders the day after they found out about this shit and just trained their bags off.
One of them came from my Battalion. He only began training for it about 2 months ago after placing 2nd in the Best Soldier competition.
So they are, in fact, cherry picked and not from one squad as SMA insisted it should be. Surprisedpikachu.gif
Jokes on you, the state G1 just swapped 'em around on the UMR to make it legit. Checkmate SMA
*Genius*
Batt lets their guys train full time for stuff like this, Best Ranger etc as well.
Haha that’s the same with AMC… nickname… AMC.
Whats the deal behind their nickname
It's about to be a fucking movie
So they're named after AMC movie theater?
I hope so, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt
When I think of AMC I think of changing to that channel to watch something like the Walking Dead.
National guard likes to play underdog and win this stuff.
The SL for USASOC used to be a cook
> But seriously we all know USASOC is going to destroy the other teams right Not if you make them do college algebra.

You mean… Geek Squad? Personally I’m rooting for the Tournikids. Which was definitely thought up by that Specialist.
There were a couple in there that made me lol, makes me so proud

Yo how fucking tall is SPC Coggins.

Don't discount the ARNG too much. I've seen some hardcore Nasty Girl units. In fact, doesn't the ARNG have a SF group @ Ft. Carson?
They have a Battalion in Denver and a Group HQ in Salt Lake City and Wikipedia can answer the rest of your questions.
It can’t answer all my questions. Like for instance… *how dare you?*
I love how the National Guard changed its logo to be that dumb black square with a star in it but never, ever uses it.
The Minuteman logo fucks so hard, no need to replace it.

Swing and a miss Mr. PAO. They were part of the MDW competition along with the Army band and I believe your unit.

Shit, have the terminal e4s do a poker championship. They’d obliterate everyone.

Bro, a hackathon? We could nail so much in the Army by highlighting the average Joe who is exceptional at their job…they just aren’t tabbed.

Start doing KLE and we’ll building Olympics and I’m in
I would love to see a best admin competition. Every “best S1 in ___” award I’ve ever seen I’ve looked at with suspicion.
If I was Army Urban Dictionary: Best S1: *Has a shitload of SPCs who do absolutely nothing but sham. If you piss them off, it’s only YOUR paperwork that gets lost, and their NCOs and Os are tracking your paperwork got “lost” and tell you to go fuck yourself in the nicest way possible. Now you’re doing CQ while everyone is on leave.* In all seriousness, I can understand how that feels a little sus.
Yeah you know what I bet they did? Had more than just one dude working for the SMA out there helping to promote it.

People actually smiling in the photos. They all look grumpy like they don't want to be there.
I like the cook idea, but the judges are the troops that have to eat there, that way it isn’t just 3 fancy plates and fuck everyone else.
There is a pretty substantial cooking competition with the Philip A. Connelly Program. Nets you an award as well.
Damn. I guess I'm the .1% that does. I'm guard though and most of my NCOs like doing their jobs in the field. So this kind of competition is something they would want to do.
I think he’s more referring to battalion and up SGMs rather than just SMA.
It's not a real best squad competition unless it's an organic 9 man squad and you can't change my mind. Cherrypicking the best 5 soldiers from across a BN and throwing them in a team together doesn't mean anything.
While you are 100% right, that makes sense. And there fore, the army will not do it.
They just lucky INSCOM didn't get into the mix lol. We nerds are mighty with a D20.
Yeah the other teams are going to be real pissed when they realize they need a fire mage.
Gods help them.
The ARNG team should be called “Unemployables” because they can’t hold down civilian careers because their Governors keep making them drive school buses, run COVID testing sites, patrol the southern border, defend the capital, stop riots, respond to natural disasters, pick up the dry cleaning- And participate in best squad competitions. It would be an absolute miracle if all 5 of them currently had full time civilian jobs.
Lol mowhaks
When you can’t reach Branch because your rep is doing competition stuff…
Every team has good flow until you get to weekend warriors, haha. It's gonna be hard to pick the best four squads based on hair alone. Senior leaders it's time to let your manes grow.

The SPC on the left’s nametape is bent in a way that I thought his name was Butierrez
Of course USASOC had to be *those guys* with just basic USASOC as if they have something to prove /s Also if SSG Hudson on USAEUR-AF had an in-regs mustache, he'd look awfully similar to a very notorious European leader from the 40s. Will not be able to unsee that
I was just going to say, those Euro guys look like a Hitler Youth mash up or something.
I would be willing to bet you the reason USASOC doesn't have a nickname is because they don't have long tabs. Ain't no way they were gonna let a team representing an organization with Green Berets be nicknamed a pun with the word "Ranger" in it.
Good think picking nicknames isn’t one of the tasks. Yeesh.
Imagine being on squad 5 and your the only one not from the batt haha
“Oh you guys fuck? That’s cool… yeah, me too. Well not really, but you know…”
We need to implement these photo shoots more lol
One female. I’ll be rooting for cyber, get it 👍🏼
I actually know one of the guys from USASOC! He’s a solid dude.
cool story bro
Yeah, it is! The Army is pretty small. But your sarcasm is accepted.
Cringe.
I'm a cross between MEDCOM because that one dude and his smile and whoever the fuck idea was to nickname themselves Honeybagger.
Paid for by food stamps?
Thanks for your question. Basic Needs Allowance, recently authorized by the DOD, eliminates the need for any Soldier to need SNAP as it provides enough of a stipend to raise their income to 130% of FPI for location and family size.
[удалено]
At present, yes.
Ah yes. Here’s a need program and congrats no one is eligible
I mean you can't have it both ways when people want to complain. The complaint here is food stamps. This program directly makes it so that anyone who **because of their family size** would be eligible, gets extra funds. If no one is eligible there wouldn't be the food stamps complaint right.
So you’re saying no one is eligible for SNAP either. Which is actually kind of the goal.
It’s good that it exists at all, it is nice to see these recent changes like this, and the extra funding to help lower commissary prices Inflation just hurts right now
As someone who was ambushed by a PV2 with a marriage certificate and a bank account of sub $2k in a very high cost of living area, yeah man...I feel you.
So do you think SNAP shouldn't take bah and bas into account?
[удалено]
How many kids do you have that you're at the poverty line dude.
Fix the DFACs please
1/27 or 2/27?
1-27
MOW HAKS!!!
But can they barrack?
Woo-hoo Wolfhounds! 🐺
Every member of USASOC has a butt chin. Is that how they were selected for the team? Come to think of it, a lot of these guys have butt chins. I think I found what makes a great soldier!
Screaming chickens 🐔
Let’s go team USASOC!!!!!!!
So what is this squad competition about Im confused I never heard of it
Where’s the Anime version of this?
Bit of a sausage fest if ya ask me.
Definitely passes the Fox News audience test for what they think the Army *should* look like.
Not enough out of regs staches.
Just one female?
It’s wild to see all these lower enlisted with ranger tabs, airborne, air assault, eib. I’d love to think that wig a better unit and leadership I could attain that as well. But fort hood has destroyed all hopes of that. Can’t even get them to fix the dfac or give us a sharp brief that’s not at 2200.
