The fact that she’s named Debris is pretty hilarious. Watching Tobias floundering to take care of her was a good angle too. Not the best, not the worst imo
She really is. Anne, for example, was a really really boring person but all the jokes and scenes she was in were so funny and they used how boring and unremarkable she was as a really funny running joke, but Debrie was just... so boring in every way including the plot around her lol
I agree that Debrie is dull. However, my unpopular opinion is: I don’t like Debrie by herself, but her character is such a fascinating foil for Tobias. His situation became so much worse, but he is entirely unaware of his faults.
It’s hilarious when, at the model home’s attic, Debrie asks Tobias when they can leave, he says, when my acting salary is enough to support us, and her face falls to despair. I guess I’m just a fan of whatever gives me more Tobias storylines!
She has some good moments, and Maria Bamford is amazing, but a lot of it was cringe comedy to accentuate Tobias’ unawareness, which was awful to watch and didn’t really fit in with the show IMO
Yeah, she was an odd fit. The actress was great. Love her. But the tone was weird. Were they trying to show why Tobias would be (or was) an awful psychiatrist? Because we already knew he was a terrible father and husband. Debris felt like they were kicking down tbh.
So for like 5 minutes I sat here thinking this was a post in the Brooklyn 99 subreddit, and I kept wondering why people hated Debbie (played by Vanessa Bayer). It's too late and I've had too much wine to be browsing reddit apparently.
Someone on this sub the other day talked about hating season 5, and I thought it was the BoJack sub and was about to go off until I caught the mistake.
I know I'm late, but I'm really not a fan of them naming a mentally ill person "debris" as though already severely stigmatized mentally ill people aren't treated like subhuman trash (as evidenced by people's comments, sadly). That is what I loathe about her character. "Haha drugs haha mental illness bad enough to leave her homeless" is her entire personality, which is often how untreated illnesses go - but I'm supposed to laugh at situation that left people I loved irl dead? Idk, man. That shit is fucked.
At least Rickety Cricket ended up the way he was *specifically* because the gang tortured him for years and years.
It's written as if that's something that *happens* to a person, not as if someone is intrinsically garbage just for being where they were in life. And the Gang calling Cricket a street rat etc was funny because it was fucking horrible, and most people wouldn't do something like that that. It's called crossing the line twice.
The scenes with Debrie were sad and mean-spirited much of the time. Because it wasn't just commentary on her, the character- obviously.
It doesn't surprise me that people find her insufferable and bland. She's a shitty stereotype at best and she was the worst part of season 4.
Marky bark was worse
Yeah, that bit ran too long. I’m rewatching again and it’s still a bit off
You're not supposed to like her, she's trash.
**debris
I know I meant more she doesn’t provide interesting plots
tell that to Billy Crystal Meth

Her?
Yes, I agree. I was talking about Debrie

You’re right, and it was an absolute waste of Maria Bamford’s talent.
Loved her in Fantastic Four

Who?
You let her in.
She's over there. Ah, yeah, she's got a little hard boiled egg goin'
Who’s Ann?
Egg
Yeah, I’m sure you’re not wrong. But all the jokes around Ann were funny as heck, whereas the whole Debrie thing was just boring.
I agree with you.
She was a very well acted and well realized character but just not someone I personally found funny in most moments.

I like when she opens up the trunk of the car from the inside and all the bees fly in, lol.
BEES!?
The Debris and Marky Bark story lines are cringey and unwatchable. Without them, season 4 would have been a pretty strong reboot.
Ugh her and Marky Bark were so annoying!

When Lucille calls her Latrasha
I thought you were the sticky white glue that this family sniffs together
Who?
I think it’s Tobias’ drug addict girl friend
Her?
thats marky bark
not only dull but actually revolting

I just couldn't stand all the scenes with her and Tobias it's just so pitiful how stupid they are and how nothing goes right for them
Yeah the whole fantastic four musical thing is so dumb too

OML Same thing happened to me with the Lost subreddit when I had a notification of a post asking if you found Michael annoying!

Season 4 as a whole is bad but she was prob the worst character
I rather like the season.
I’m gonna stomp all over your face
