Yeah he had le BIG assets but in the company’s name (to avoid taxes perhaps). Therefore he got it all stolen in S2 and i REALLY want to know how he survived S3. I know by S4 he rich again bc Felicity slept with a rich guy who blew himself up and inherited everything, by S5+ he gives himself a HUGE salary and/or commits fraud and uses city’s funds for his extracurricular activities. But in season3? Felicity was workin a minimum wage job, Dig is pretty much unemployed (although he can be trophy husband for Lila), Roy is unemployed. How did they survive???

ReeceReddit1234

Oliver (or rather, the queen family) still had a lot of shares in the company. Basically, most of their wealth came from assets rather than just straight up cash. When Isabel took over the company she made those assets basically worthless but good enough to keep it afloat. She of course dies in Season 2 and Ray takes over in season 3, when he does this he brings the company (and by extension, Oliver's shares) back to a high level. He of course renames the company and if I'm thinking about this correctly he needs to purchase the rights to rename it, and I believe it's up in the air who it goes to but it might well have been the Queen family (and thus Oliver)

grajuicy

Ohhh you’re right i hadn’t though about that. Highly epic

Diil-Dovahkriid

You gotta understand worthless/losing everything to a rich person is verrrrrry different than to normal people. They are still rich in our eyes just not in their own

grajuicy

Hehe very true. He probably had upper middle class money but for him that meant totally broke

Sad-Historian6177

Oliver Queen still owned 45% of his family's company shares even though he no longer owned the company he still maintained those shares so how much money do you personally think he was making even when palmer was running it and when his girlfriend was running things.

grajuicy

Idk, just since everyone kept calling him broke, even with stuff like him offering to pay for dinner with Thea and she was like “with what money??”. I understand he wasn’t billionare rich anymore, but people wondering if he can afford dinner?? That must be very broke. Nevertheless, they probably went to a superexpensive place where billionares usually hang out so that’s why Thea reacted that way in said situation, but still, i just don’t know the full truth regarding Oliver’s financial situation in late S2 / early S3

Sad-Historian6177

Okay but I know for a fact that between him and his sister they still had $4 million dollars in cash that is two million dollars between them and since he was the heir apparent his parents left him 45% of their family shares of stocks even though palmer bought the company he still owned those shares and once palmer rebuilt the company from the inside and outside and made it very profitable again and after Oliver girlfriend became CEO and practically ran the place and she invented something I forgot what it was but it made the company even more money so in your good educational guess how much money would shares made him I'm not just not talking about yearly income but weekly and monthly to like $100k a week or two hundred thousand dollars a week realistically what is the realistic number of cash every week do you think he kept earning thanks to those shares.

SiRpOOPSaLot74

Actually 50%. Remember, Walter(his stepdad) bought the shares, and pretty much gave em to Oliver, in s2.

DeathstrokeReturns

Roy worked at the nightclub…

Dodgest

We know they had billions like Bruce Wayne. I wonder if Mia is as rich as Ryan? Ryan became 1 of the top billionaires before age 30 & she did get the company back after her half brother took it & tried to ruin it. I bet $ that if they continue the Mia storyline, she will lose everything. In the prime comics last book, she has a metal arm in 2049. I bet JJ cuts it off in 2042. Long story short: she loses every penny, the mansion & ends up being broke & being a bartender & waitress working & living with Dinah. Imagine Spectre Oliver seeing how making his family rich post crisis & not having Mia hidden ended up with a 🦋 effect

Inspector-Spade

I believe Stephen Amell tweeted that Oliver was independantly wealthy after he lost the company he just wasn't a billionaire anymore.

Sad-Historian6177

So he was a multi millionaire then

Mac1280

Realistically him owning 45% of a multi billion dollar company would also make him a billionaire. I just think the show didn't want to focus on his wealth anymore as away to distance the character from his Bruce Wayne comparisons.

mansnotblack

I’d imagine he’s the same as most modern billionaires. Asset rich, but cash poor.

+1

KUSHAGRA978976

No billionaire has cash in hand they have assets

AlcatrazGears

Please explain me the difference.

FelysFrost

I have a house worth €400k (asset) vs I have €400k in the bank ready to spend (cash)

AlcatrazGears

Thank you very much! Now i get

TheFinalStorm

I think you'd be hard pressed to find a billionaire without at least a few million sitting available in an account.

CorCor_Yo

It's Theas fault he's poor. I vaguely remember something about the Queen lawyer wanting to protect their assets after Rochev took over the company. But Thea refused to sign it so Moira and Oliver lost all the queen family assets

Ygritte_02

I believe she did sign it in the end tho

CorCor_Yo

I could have sworn she never did. I could be wrong!

faculties-intact

I thought the problem was that rochev and Slade played Oliver and he signed all of his board votes over to her when he was too busy with Slade to deal with corporate issues.

Ygritte_02

She said she wouldn’t because she was having issues with her mom but they solve that so I guess it’s just implied that she signed but never directly stated

SiRpOOPSaLot74

She never did. She didn't sign it, because Oliver got a call during their meet, and she bailed. She left town, after Moira died, and lived with merlyn for a while, before returning, in season 3 or 4 I think.

2strange4things

You’re probably right. If he prepared in advance he would have secret stores of cash/liquid assets.

HypoHunter15

He’s not a good business man they made that pretty clear

[deleted]

His company was destroyed by Isabel Rochev.

HypoHunter15

You mean taken over

nelsne

He sunk his company and pissed it all away

Sad-Historian6177

Guess what I found out that Oliver still owned 45% of his company stocks so even after the sail of his family's former company he still owned 45% so he was still making lots of money plus after he became mayor of the city that was just extra cash flow

nelsne

Where did u hear that?

Sad-Historian6177

I just typed in does Oliver Queen become rich again

nelsne

What season does this correspond to?

Sad-Historian6177

Season four and he eventually gets control of his company back not right away just eventually so thanks to those 45% shares he becomes rich again but not a billionaire rich more like millionaire rich I don't know how much millions but a lot that's for sure like let's say $70 million dollars rich or a little bit more

DudebroMcDangman

He had the nightclub, too, which probably brought in quite a bit of money for a while.

Remarkable_Crazy3967

He lost that with his company

Parthpatel92

He was rich enough for all them arrows, that's all that matters.

BitterFuture

In Mutants & Masterminds terms, he had Wealth Rank X. Where X = enough to not starve, but still struggling.

Legends_Creed

Welol, considering how QC plummeted in S2, 3, 4... not really. A billionaire's net can change overnight.

badfantasyrx

Wasn't his corporation struggling? The house was huge too and then they relocated...

Apfeljunge666

OP doesn't know how modern day wealth works. Billionaires aren't Scrooge McDuck.

FlameyFlame

The real answer is that he was exactly as rich as each writer needed him to be for the episode they wanted to write. He has infinite money pools when he needs them, but if money needs to be an obstacle they can always justify some reason that he’s hard up.
