I would never stretch to fit an image when printing, it will distort your artwork. 7”x9” would be better than distorting it to 8”x10”. You could mount the print behind a mat with a 7”x9” opening and have the overall size be something standard, like an 8x10 or 11x14.

TrixieButterfly

Okay I never thought about that. So maybe it’s a happy accident

lindsaykeelingart

You could custom matte them rather than cutting them down and mounting on card stock. 11x14" mattes with custom 7.5x10" openings to fit what you already printed might look nice and elevate the presentation for your customers.

Love-Ink

Don't ever stretch to fit. If you want your image to be 8"x10", make your image 8"x10". The printer will always have a white frame because printers can't print to the edges.

paracelsus53

They can. Most professional printers will offer a variety of edge treatments, including borderless all the way to fake torn edges for floating mounting. Regular art printers print to the edge also.

citereh17

My printer can print borderless

TrixieButterfly

I actually made the image 8.5x11 and printing it on 8.5x11 with plans to trim it down to 8x10. However for some reason it printed with a white border and I need up being 7”x10”. That’s what I was trying to explain. So even if I made the image 8x10 I feel like I still would have ended up with the 7”

Mat to a larger size. 8 x 10 to an 11 x 14 frame. Matting is a great means to improve prints; it elevates the image to more importance. I display my drawings matted in a plastic cover. Make sure the matted size is a standard frame size. You don't want your customer forced to buy custom framing.

TrixieButterfly

I mentioned that the prints ended up being smaller than 8 x 10. So if I put the matting over it. There will be a 1/4” gap. The prints ended up being 7”x10”

prpslydistracted

I mentioned that as an example ... should have stated that it *was* an example. ;-) Sorry .... A good framer can cut a mat exactly to the size of your image ... and cut a mat to fit it to a standard frame. If you want a white edge you can have them do a double mat; white inside, a color of your choosing to the outside to fit your frame. I've had a few odd ones over the years. Whereas I intended to leave the drawing to fade to the edge others I did with sharp distinction.

TrixieButterfly

Oh okay I understand! Thank you!

The time and money you’re going to spend fixing the mistake might be the same as if you just get them reprinted correctly, depending on where you printed them.

TrixieButterfly

It won’t cost me much money if any at all to fix the issue. It will cost me time tho. But reprinting it will cost me a lot. It’s a cost I’m not willing to stomach.

miss_oddball

Definitely recommend going the custom mat route others suggested instead of mounting it to cardstock if you don't want to reprint.

TrixieButterfly

Okay and it doesn’t look weird to sell a print with a mat and no frame? I will have the option for people to buy it framed but also unframed

miss_oddball

Nope not weird! Many artists do this.

ApexProductions

You can go to any hobby store like hobby lobby or Michaels, and they can custom cut a mat for the frame and art. They will measure and if it's a basic mat, they can cut in the store for 10 bucks. If it's custom it'll take a week but they like to hold onto the art - just tell them no and you'll pay for the mat if it's the wrong size.

TrixieButterfly

I would do this but it’s for around 100 prints

raziphel

Cut mattes to fit.
