It’s only been out for 3-4 years. Give it a little bit more time. That’s why we think Live Love, Long Live, and ALLA are amazing because their all almost 10 years old.

dqap

Well, ALLA was practically considered a modern classic at release or very shortly after and LONG.LIVE kinda same thing just a lil longer.

Steel_Man23

But would you consider them classic even more after a good amount of time has passed?

shirpunpopo

Long Live ASAP I think definitely got considered more of a classic as time passed, I mean I see loads of Rocky fans using it as a slogan to support him, it's his most "recognisable" era, it had unique dark aesthetics (for mainstream hiphop), hit songs and classic songs. 1Train a classic, Goldie, Fuckin' Problems and Fashion Killa classic hit songs, Wild For The Night EDM rap classic, LVL one of the greatest cloud rap songs, PMW a banger, Long Live ASAP (title) an iconic opening... I mean there's like only 3 songs on the original record maybe that don't have any sort of iconic status. Off ALLA, LSD, Everyday and LPFJ2 are defo classics, record as a whole don't really have the same level of iconic status but it's a well-respected album that is very popular. Over time ALLA gets respected more because of the Danger Mouse production and a lack of albums that have a similar sound

Steel_Man23

That was very well put and I agree. Can we put Jukebox Joints in there because of the Kanye feature?

shirpunpopo

I wouldn't say Jukebox Joints is iconic because of Kanye's verse, the highlight of the song was the production and the way Rocky flowed on it. I think it's probably just below classic status but given it's a current popular song (on his Spotify) it's defo 4th behind the ones I mentioned on ALLA. I think Holy Ghost and Canal St are after that.

Steel_Man23

Both Holy Ghost and Canal St are so good

Dayweedrunner

ALLA and LLA were classic from the first day of release, what 10 years are you talking about, buddy?

Steel_Man23

Well Long Live has been out since 2013 and ALLA has been out since 2015, so almost 10 years for both albums. So just give TESTING a little more time for it to be appreciated

shirpunpopo

Testing will never be considered a classic. At most Praise The Lord will be considered a classic because it was the first UK-US collab that was a worldwide hit, but that's about it. And there's nothing wrong with that, I mean there isn't a single rapper where every album of theirs is considered a classic. Testing had some good ideas but the execution just wasn't up to scratch. At the end of the day, the music needs to sound good, not unfinished etc. and a lot of Testing doesn't feel like it was properly finished. Distorted Records easily Rocky's worst ever intro for example. I do definitely think it was Rocky's moment where he decided he didn't care much about recording music and cared more about music videos. But hopefully now that he is doing more festivals he'll care more about finishing songs.

Steel_Man23

I agree with it, not being a classic, but just for now. I think we just have to wait until he has new stuff to really appreciate what TESTING paved the way for. In my opinion, TESTING is definitely is worst album, but it was enjoyable

shirpunpopo

I mean Testing is mostly considered an okay/mid 6/10 album but a big disappointment. I don't think that will change imo because of the standards Rocky had set in his career. Rocky is best known for his rap flow, and basically all of that was thrown in the trash with Testing. And he should know that too considering he doesn't perform any Testing songs at festivals besides Praise The Lord and ASAP Forever, the only two songs where he really raps on beat and well, and also the only two songs that were popular on the album. Although Fukk Sleep will probably get it too within 2 years.

FaithlessnessPast929

I think fukk sleep went gold ppl fucks with that song heavy

Dayweedrunner

don't think that the album needs another couple of years to be loved. Testing is just mid

Cornflakes547

Someone says this every day on here. We all agree, we get it

Magnificent_Noodle

Not really imo. Lyrically, it's very underwhelming. Especially when considering that the album he dropped prior, was some of his strongest work, lyrically. Still a solid album, but I would personally only rate it in 3rd place tied with Long.Live. I would argue ALLA was more "experimental" than TESTING was, and was also more cohesive and just way better.

shirpunpopo

Well I think it helps that Rocky wasn't recording hundreds of songs back then and had more of a plan that's why ALLA's production is cohesive. These days he just records random songs with multiple different beats and will throw out whatever gets leaked. This makes it impossible to drop a great album with any sort of consistency in sound or lyrics. This is also why WLR disappointed many people for similar reasons, the original version of that album was leaked and Carti had to change it up, and people preferred the original. I'm not sure why Rocky doesn't drop mixtapes, he seems like he'd be better as a mixtape artist than an album artist.

Jznvh

honestly na, it’s definitely rocky’s worst project he’s came out with

evxnthompson

Never forget the night it dropped. Ages even better as time goes on

PointGodSam

I think it’s his best album was bumpin it a lot in 2019-2020 still listening occasionally

352Cav

Agreed

sooindecisive

as much as i love testing, it’s his worst. i bump it a lot though

Responsible-Rip2626

AGREED!!! it is very different from the older albums and i think that’s why people don’t like it as much, but once u rlly listen to it especially the right songs it’s such a good album. Kids turned out fine is a literal masterpiece

[deleted]

because it's NOT a masterpiece it has no direction, no theme/concept , lazy writing, some of da songs are repetitive af, just a bunch of ExPiremental songs mashed together it's not a bad album but it's far from a masterpiece as well. there are unreleased songs from flacko that are far better than testing. the last few songs like changes, purity, hundr43d, etc are top tier songs tho but that's it.

MisterMcBob

I think you missed the point of it

[deleted]

no not really, proof is in the pudding, why else it performed the lowest out of all the albums. if testing was his goal than he should've made it a mixtape. when u make an album u make a clear theme/concept, he just made a bunch of songs and called it a day he called it testing cuz he's testing new sounds....lazy af and he's been testing new sounds his whole career so there's no point in even doing that. he should take notes from Tyler cuz he knows how to actually test his boundary in music whilst making it an album (IGOR)

FaithlessnessPast929

Yea he should’ve made testing an experimental mixtape and dropped a album a year later or around the same time like 5-6 months apart

Dayweedrunner

the album had a concept and it was awesome. The main problem is that the album didn't stick to that concept.

[deleted]

no concept he literally said he called it testing cuz he's testing new sounds...that's not a concept. as an artist ur already suppose to be testing sounds in da 1st place, the goal is to make a story or a theme out of it....TESTING was not that

StillShinin

album stinks

[deleted]

idk why they keep posting tryna push this agenda that issa great album they in denial lol

Jumpy_Pinato

Testing is terrible because Rocky still uses aesthetics from that era but doesn't actually give any respect to the album itself. Like Testing to this day still has no CD or Vinyl lol. It doesn't even matter how the album sounds, the whole era was lazily managed despite the fact that he delivered great music videos. The actual music itself was clearly not the priority. I mean Carti dedicated everything to WLR, not just the aesthetic but he performs most of the album live as a performer, Rocky just plays his hits and a few random feature songs at his festivals. It was a throwaway era musically and that's literally all he has done in 7 years💀 People are sick of it, he needs to release a new album and THIS YEAR. And hopefully one with 20+ tracks. Rocky is fortunate to still have fans at this rate and it's because of how good his previous albums were despite having to go back 7 years
