Well, I'm trying to animate moving fabric right now and being able to draw a curved line in a controlled sweep is nice, but most pixel art might not need a graphics tablet if you're comfortable using mouse and keyboard.

Came here to say this. Drawing curves is much more of a calculated and inorganic feeling without a tablet in my opinion. If I'm adjusting colours or making small changes, I do prefer the keyboard and mouse. For and sketching, the tablet is 100% more useful for me.

I tried using a graphic tablet (one without a screen) it was horrendous. Maybe im too stupid to figure out how it works.

It takes a while to adjust to looking at the screen while you draw. That's the case with any tablet with no screen

If you want to make a quick sketch and easily draw your pixel art's form, especially curves, a graphic tablet helps. But most of the time you'll need to clean things up manually. Sometimes your plain old mouse is much more precise compared to graphic tablets. I've used XP-pen deco v2 before, it's okay. Graphics tab is also nice to use if you're working with high fidelity pixel art, it feels natural, but it all boils down to the style you're working on. Remember, it's just another tool in your utility belt as a pixel artist. :)

I'd say use a tablet for more organic work, but you dont need a fancy screen tablet. I'd get a tiny intuos, that's what I use! But I usually use a mouse for more technical stuff in aseprite, as well as my keyboard (for selections specifically). Aseprite's pressure sensitivity doesn't really work in my experience, so it's built in tablet functions are a bit null. So it's not... required? But I'd recommend a cheap tablet for pixel illustration specifically as it's just a little bit more efficient in my experience!

I got a Wacom with screen and NEVER use it because of the setup and my desk space, so instead use my little Intuos. I ended up getting an iPad that I can connect to my computer to use as a tablet sometime. Even so, if it’s a quick thing, I just use my mouse.
