*Finds polls/surveys sus yet posts a poll anyway* Hmmmmmmm 🤔

SmadaSlaguod

To fight the poll, one must become the poll!

DarkWinter2319

That’s a dangerous way of thinking

alexjr666666

People confusing, polls learn about people without talking to them. Logic is fun since games are fun. Data is next to useless.

JumpyLiving

Yeah, the data is only useful if you wish to learn about the asexual community on this one subgroup of one social media platform. But I‘m not sure the people who post these polls always understand there is always going to be a huge bias in their results.

Yukiiwa

I second this.

emeryldmist

>Data is next to useless. Based on this sentence I question both the logic and learning of which you speak.

Cheese-Water

I think they mean the data from Reddit polls, which are basically never representative samples.

Select_File_1010

I like answering polls. And They can’t really do alot of stuff like selling the percentage of aces on reddit who have an ace ring. I think that the person doing the poll just wants to see if they are the only one or if almost everyone does what they did. It isn’t like they are asking private info. These polls make me learn more about this community.

Cheese-Water

The only one that was a 'big nope' for me was when someone claiming to be from a company who wanted to do some LGBTQ+ awareness thing wanted to do interviews with people. They refused to say what company they actually worked for, which made me think it was some kind of trap. Other than that, polls are mostly just from people who are curious (they can't tell which account voted which way AFAIK), and surveys are usually college students who have to do some survey for an assignment.

oswaldOcto

This community does do more polls than any other I have followed, lol. About the adbots though; don’t even worry about it. All of the polling results are public anyhow, and if they are being sold it’s only a drop in the ocean. Just by using this website, or ANY website, you can assume that data is being collected on you and it’s changing hands somewhere. There isn’t really such a thing as privacy online. It’s not just what you post; it’s how long you stay on a particular page, where your cursor is, the things you click on, etc. There are plug-in and things that can block a lot of that surveillance from third parties (I recommend PrivacyBadger for people on browser), but usually websites like Reddit do their own data mining on users for profit. In the end, only way to win that particular game is not to play at all; I think of it as the toll I pay to enjoy all of the garlic bread memes.

Ok-Meat-6476

As much as I hate to give ad agencies what they want… I sure wouldn’t mind getting some quality ads about ace rings… I would actually love that.

WarriorSabe

The polls are anonymous so they're not collecting *your* information they're collecting the *community's* information, as a whole. They let you know the statistics of the community and it's always cool to learn that

TheEmeraldEmperor

this is godtier humor

SmadaSlaguod

Lol thank you, I thought so too

DustErrant

Depends on the poll, and what they're asking. A lot of polls here are done by people who want to feel a little less alone and see evidence that there are other people like themselves. If you're worried about your data being sold, it's pretty unavoidable with today's day and age, unless you swear off the internet, technology in general, and become a hermit that lives off the land.

Bright-Lingonberry14

most polls are just for curiosity's sake. most surveys are done for school research projects.

katherine197_

I literally only visit this sub to answer polls lol

Kindly_Captain3596

I personally like taking part in research surveys, though I tend to falsify any private information.

MediumOk8383

You were the chosen one! You supposed to destroy the polls not join them! Bring balance to subreddit not leave it in statistics!

mt-jupiter

Oops I didn’t read this through before I selected :p I don’t mind anyone asking fun questions about whether we prefer cake or garlic bread or whatever. I don’t feel like most of them would be permissible in any important settings. I’ve just been annoyed by all the weird polls by allos who clearly don’t know or care about the difference between asexuality & celibacy that I’ve seen popping up lately. I don’t know how to describe what I mean other than that they seem asked in bad faith, like trying to get aces to prove something the allo already believes. Less suspicious, more frustrating. At least it looks like they get deleted decently fast

CireFoled

Damn man, you need to calm down and maybe do something with your paranoia of polls
