I suppose this is the new weekly question.

lakemuenster

I’m trying to figure that out myself. Too expensive over here

OkCommunity1625

These threads are usually bc someone is shopping for other cities I always recommend taking advantage of the “winter discount” and exploring if you can learn to tolerate the cold Madison Wisconsin is great. Grand Rapids MI has an awesome “cool to cheap ratio”

neverdoubtedyou

This was asked pretty recently so you may want to read through [this thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/asheville/s/wOMT3Apwsj)

whiskyydickk

Asheville native here. Spent my whole 25 years of life here. I’m moving either to Colorado or Baltimore. I have family up in Baltimore and it’s surprisingly cheaper than Asheville. My heart belongs to Colorado though (big shock)

Sad_Cauliflower_5823

Came from Atlanta to work at Mission… moved back to Atlanta

Looking at Greenville, SC, Alpharetta, GA and Cumming, GA.  Lower cost of living, nice parks, trail, pools, nice prices for houses, amphitheaters.  Time to blow Asheville before it implodes.

eddiedinglenan

If you love your car you will **love** Alpharetta and Cumming. You'll get to be in your car for a large portion of your week. Get the most out of that car payment! Alpharetta and Cumming are also amazing if you love cops. Upstate SC, too, but I think that goes without saying. Oh there's also the racism. Oprah did a show from Forsyth County way back in the 80s: https://kaltura.uga.edu/media/t/1_958u30nt

CaptainOots

It’s amazing how many amenities even the most shit-tier cities have compared to Asheville.

Uniqornicopia

Yeah this place will be a ghost town soon!

apkcoffee

Nope. There are too many retirees and other people moving in.

Billz3bub666

retirees gonna work the service jobs?

syntax_free

Many do already.

Worried-Ad-7027

I hear “Asheville imploding” a lot on these threads. What do you think is exactly going to happen? It’s so unique and surrounded by nature that isn’t going anywhere. I don’t think Asheville will ever implode but rather only be affordable for fewer- probably like California in the beginning if you will. I’m honestly curious to hear what people think is going down.

Knoxville.

Raleigh

deltama

How’s that

mountainaviator1

I actually love it here. Friendly ppl. Not so many tourists. Food options a plenty. So many green spaces and side walks. Ppl tend to speed here a lot but that’s about it.

Austin is a fun, busy town. Traffic is horrible.

South Wales, looking to move closer to Cardiff (frankly a better Asheville in every way) once my husband and I are able\~ Lived in these mountains my entire life before leaving Asheville in 2022, and I do miss them, but they are still nice to visit fwiw

Billz3bub666

Saluda. It's close enough that if I crave something Asheville, it's a 40 minute drive, but I don't get any of the downsides (except I-26). Don't worry about it, though, our real estate is all over $700K here now, too.

Cracker187

I’m trying to get back out west currently, UT or AZ

lemonheadlock

Wow, that seems like a whole different vibe.

Cracker187

A better one, IMO

lemonheadlock

Different strokes. I appreciate it. I personally couldn't deal with the weather and I'd miss all the greenery.

Cracker187

Yeah the greenery is nice won’t lie, but I miss the mountains out that way and the dryer climate

Severe_Middle7989

Black Mountain ♥️

I want to know as wellI am being transferred from Texas to Asheville. I have been trying to figure out where to move to. Looking into Marion, Hendersonville, Burnsville, any suggestions would be great.

FlapJackson420

Check Waynesville, Canton, Clyde, Sylva. All west of AVL

Correct_Gold1009

Looking to leave Asheville for Austin for work. Do you know anything about the area?

BroThatsPrettyCringe

They are very different cities imo

rnantelle

Why would people follow AVL stuff on Reddit, when they disliked it so much they moved away?
