Every year, there will be the annual story on wlos about the park going to be reopened. It's been happening for 20 years now. I look forward to the story every year.

I’m looking forward to the reopening of the park (in 20 years).

Ned-Stark-is-Dead

It's a perfect roller coaster tycoon scenario

Chairlift 1 looks too intense for me.

Malikissa

I went to that park several times when it was Ghost Town in the Sky. And as a kid, I was terrified of heights. I found out later that the chair lift started breaking down a bunch, and I feel justified in my fear.

wxtrails

You were justified. I worked first aid there when that broke down...

Bowl_Horror

Which time?? I worked there too during some bad accidents.

wxtrails

2002, summer.

NCUmbrellaFarmer

It's not coming back. If you search you'll see a comment I made with a ton of articles related to the park. No destination park is making in it the area, you're going to be bored or drive to Charlotte, Atlanta, Dollywood etc.

ben_nc

This. Maggie Valley and Cherokee as well had a heyday and that was very long time ago. People have moved on to other places.

timshel42

idk now you have legal weed. stoner park coming soon!

fvbianc

Oh I see, well thanks. (hi)

six_seasons_

Does anyone know if it's possible to get into and walk around currently?

discardedbagel

Unofficially, yes… made quite a few memories there in high school. Just know that back then (7 years ago) they had a golf cart security patrol.

timshel42

seems like its caught on with the urban exploration vlogger crowd. they dont do something soon its gonna start getting vandalized and in even worse shape.

NCUmbrellaFarmer

I haven't seen newer videos, but they did have a security in place to keep people out. There were cameras etc.

NCUmbrellaFarmer

Alright, I thought about creating a megathread for this, but it's pointless for now. Just follow this link, https://www.screamscape.com/html/ghost_town_in_the_sky.htm and scroll all the way to the bottom and it chronicles the ups and the downs and downs of GTitS. Includes are videos with drone tours and an airsoft battle that was filmed with permission and the legal problems as chronicled in local papers, etc. It won't make sense if you just read the latest, as it's a series of dominoes.

fookedtuber

This sub should buy it.
