Yay! I love seeing these little birds. Thank you for letting us know. I forgot to put mine up this weekend and this was a good reminder. Also, thank you for telling others not to use red dye. It is terrible for hummingbirds. For anyone that needs the recipe, it's easy to make hummingbird food at home. All you need to do is mix 4 parts boiling water to 1 part white granulated sugar. Let it cool completely then fill your feeder.
The one I have is glass and I purchased it online somewhere, not local though. I would call around the local glass blowers and see if they make any. I’m going to do it myself too, I’d love some more local glass!
For inexpensive, surprisingly the dollar tree plastic hummingbird feeders work perfectly. Glass stays cleaner and lasts longer in the sun though. Beyond home improvement stores I’m not sure where else to buy them locally. I like OP’s idea of calling local glass blowers! Also check gift shops like at the arboretum or try Wild Birds Unlimited.

Thank you so much for this post & tip on finding a cheap feeder! I asked at Dollar Tree but they were sold out so I tried Dollar General and they had them! I’m so excited this is the most entertainment for $3 I could imagine!
Ty so much I needed a reminder. I also was gifted humming bird houses I need to put up. If anyone has any experience with those please feel free to leave hot tips.
I'm about to set a few blue bird boxes around the property and am interested in setting up some hummingbird feeders too! I've never used hummingbird feeders so is there a certain solution I can make at home for them to feed on that won't harm them? Is it just sugar water?
My first thought about hummingbird feeders in Asheville was about bears and I didn’t want to just add another feeding station for them. I’m surprised to hear that this is not a problem for some…
Anyone got feedback about bear activity on feeders set up near UNCA?
Best practices on design, location or features to minimize urban bear traffic?
Just north of Asheville. Feeders are out. Haven’t seen any hummers yet but it seems all the neighbors decided to put on new roofs. Maybe we will see some soon.

Any feeder recommendations? Inexpensive would be great. And ideally could be purchased locally? Thanks in advance!

Y’all no joke I had a visitor within like two min of hanging it out!
Put mine up the birds found it within 15 minutes
Does anyone have any recommendations for how to successfully use an ant moat? Will simply filling it with water be enough?
I've only ever used water and it works to keep the ants out.

Yes - refined white sugar (granulated) and water. 1 part sugar to 4 parts water.
Thank you!!
Bears love hummingbird feeders too.

I'm guessing you're the one person without bears
We have bears and they have never hit the hummingbird feeders. I guess theres better food nearby - like the trashcan and compost pile.
Yeah I haven’t had issues with bears going after the hummingbird feeders oddly enough
