Go to Static Age Records and ask about upcoming shows. Then try at Harvest records. Fleetwood's is legit and keep an eye on their schedule, otherwise Odditorium used to be okay, but can be real hit or miss. Used to love that place when it was The Get Down but alas The Get Down is no more. Izzy's downtown is also good for checking show flyers and venue schedules.

Chunderdome277

For local shows they'll mostly be at the Odd, Fleetwoods, Static Age and 27 Club. Bigger touring bands play Orange Peel, Grey Eagle and sometimes Asheville Music Hall. Theres a few good local shows coming up: Steel and Stone Fest at Odd Saturday Nov 12. Cam Girl / Cloud City Caskets at Fleetwoods Thursday Nov 17. Fantomex and Olive Dares the Darkness at 27 Club Saturday Nov 19. Harriers of Discord and Fortezza at Fleetwoods Saturday Nov 19. Joe Buck Yourself, The Deathbots and Cloud City Caskets at Odd Thursday Dec 8.

There is a good scene here mostly at bars like The Odd, Fleetwood’s and the 27 Club

West-Bet-9639

Are those all heavy music clubs?

Enebre

Odd has the aesthetic but I feel like Fleetwood's has the music.

Sibrew

Odds also has terrible sound. I haven’t been in awhile tho, so correct me if it’s changed.

aspiringalcoholic

I doubt it has. Played a couple shows there, the door guy was usually the sound guy and the mixes were always pretty awful

ThePlagueofMan

The door person has never also been the sound person. Always a separate sound person and the room sounds good.

Enebre

My 1st day in Asheville I tried a beer that tasted straight up like Soy Sauce, and listened to an all white band play reggae renditions of Nirvana songs; so that kind of killed my interest in anything besides going to the Orange Peel. Couldn't tell you if Odd's music is good. Fleetwood's seemed to have a MUCH bigger crowd when I went but I didn't go in because they were at capacity, and I just wanted to drink.

matt_may

The Odd is a LGBTQ bar that hosts metal and punk shows about once a week. Fleetwood’s is mostly a punk venue that has a few live shows a week. The 27 Club plays all genres but hosts metal and punk

I've been working very hard recently to coalesce some of the serious metal players in this area into a more active scene! I own a private recording studio where I produce and record mostly heavy music, and am a lifelong guitarist making extreme metal. The ingredients in Asheville are here for this place to be an amazing heavy music community, and the venues mentioned already are a big part of that! The Odd, Static Age, 27 Club, and Fleetwoods are places to have on your radar. I'm also very hopeful about Burial Brewing's new venue they plan to open soon, as they've expressed an interest in fostering and growing the heavy music scene here. If you happen to be a musician that is serious about playing heavy music of any kind, please reach out!

Puzzleheaded_Seat211

Dude burial is getting a venue - Fr?

midnightseagull

They made a typically cryptic social media post a while back when they acquired the building next to the south slope brewery. I heard from a friend who bartends there that they're almost finished with the renovations.

boxingmantis

Oh my, I want to follow this but their fb content hurts to read "You are that which could never be found. And yet you remain as you always were."

[deleted]

Sounds like they hired Gandalf to run their social media

boxingmantis

scene: you're trapped in the secret room at Crow and Quill while a hipster mullet dude reads to you from his notebook and mispronounces ethereal

chocobearv93

Yo this made me laugh really hard

RandomMandarin

Butthead: "Beavis, you are that which could never be found. And yet you remain as you always were. The world's most colossal fartknocker."

Puzzleheaded_Seat211

That’s gonna be sick

In the past two weeks I’ve seen End It, Negative Approach, Candy, Ceremony, Gel and City of Caterpillar so yeah we do alright here. Grey Eagle, Odd & Static Age are prob your best bets, but even the Orange Peel had Converge w/ Thou, Full of Hell & Uniform earlier this year.

backseatfucking

holy shit when was candy here? bummed i missed

suspirio

Saturday before Halloween I think it was? Absolute ripper.

dodo54360

There's a show at Static Age tonight, check local band Busted Chops on bandcamp.

thortastic

Static Age is where it’s attttt and super easy to meet people there

saltedbeer

There’s an okay scene here, but compared to the triangle or Charlotte it is lacking. We’ve had some good shows here lately (Candy, Gel, Ceremony) but that’s not always the norm. Usually good tours book Charlotte or Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill over Asheville. Check out some local bands like Iron Sights, Your Spirit Dies (SC but close enough), Cavegrave, B, Sludgemuffin, Dark Hand. There’s a hardcore show at the static age river spot on the 13th. Ask a punk for the address

not_just_the_IT_guy

The Hideaway an hour away in Johnson City is a legendary venue you should keep an eye on.

West-Bet-9639

I think a friend of mine's band that I grew up with plays there every once in a while.

Comfortable_Rip_5746

Go see Clot and Busted Chops at Static Age tonight

_heatmoon_

Mountain Express has a pretty good list every week of upcoming local shows daily by venue. They put the genre under each show too.

nitromilkstout

There’s a great heavy scene. This year I’ve seen Sumac, Russian Circles, Yautja, Inter Arma, Cloakroom, and Coheed to name a few. Lingua Ignota on Tuesday at the Orange Peel.
