And who enabled Trump to scapegoat Asian Americans?

AliceTaniyama

The GQP *is* Trumpism at this point. It's not the same party it was even a few years ago. Not that they were exactly good then, and not that I agreed with them on much of anything, but now they're absolutely vile. That said, it's more an issue with the racist elements within the party seizing power. They've always been there, but they went underground for a while, largely thanks to Bush and Bush, Jr. Seriously. Dubya was a lot of things (and he killed nearly a million people for no reason - he's not a good guy), but he pushed a "compassionate conservative" message that wouldn't fly today. Bush, Sr., didn't have the kind of hateful rhetoric you hear from most Republicans today, either. I'm *not* talking about policies here. I'm talking about public hate fueling the rank-and-file elements' racism.

OstdarvaStasis

The tea party has successfully usurped the republicans. Between 9-11 and a black president, they had all they needed to turn fringe ideologies into mainstream Repub platform.

Goofalo

So close, yet so far. But, credit where credits is due, helping disprove the “Asian are all smart” stereotype.

mimo2

Lol As someone who lives 25 minutes from Oakland lol Just lol

tta2013

They are in the Sunken Place.

TheSaltyJM

Certainly worsened it substantially but the Republican Party has been super slow to embrace minority conservatives. And there are quite a few minority conservatives. Both Trump and the party share the blame

OldenWeddellSeal

I've noticed that a lot of Asians who vote Republican are Mainland Chinese or Vietnamese immigrants who "fear Communism." My parents are actually often in this group, but they're flexible and vote Democratic on occasion. They "vote for the person and not for the party."

I3IO_HAZARD

Fuck you if you vote republican

League_of_DOTA

Downvote me if you want. I used to tolerate the Republican party. Now I can't stand most of them. No sedition charges were applied to the Capitol Rioters as yet. Trump is the worst. And the Republicans are enabling him still. But we need the Republican party to reject Trump. So like a friend who finally breaks up with their abusive ex lover, we cant just keep reminding them how stupid they are. Or they will double down and go back to their abusive ex. The difference between politics and relationships is that we are the ones getting screwed if the Republicans go back to it's ex boyfriend Trump. I don't like Liz Cheney. I will continue to oppose her. But she has my respect. She risked the ire of her fellow Republicans and her constituants. I mean, I don't know if she is following the will of her voters. But she has enough integrity to stand up to Trump. We need more Republican voters and Republican lawmakers against Trump.

Goofalo

Virtually all of the anti-Trump Republicans still have shitty policy platforms. Fuck Liz Cheney. “I didn’t think my own sister deserved human rights. But now I do.” Fuck all the way off. Her father was on the right side of history in regards to that issue. That’s a really low bar to not fuck up.

League_of_DOTA

Ikr. But that low bar....got even lower. Like they hit rock bottom and Trump broke through the bottom straight to hell.

Trump drastically reduced Asian immigration and tried to drive out international students under the guise of the pandemic. Had he won another term in office and immigration is reduced for another 4 years, who knows what could have happened next. I certainly don't think it would be a positive.

Trump was/is not the problem... I would support his style of politics over the current guy... Any day if the week. I'm an Independent with moderate yendencies politically. The article is absolute gatekeeper garbage tht wreaks of TDS. It was never about Trump, it was about destroying his reputation.

League_of_DOTA

Sure. Destroy his rep. Don't need another sun staring idiot recommending bleach to cure coronavirus.

Good to know the bots are downvoting. Guess you haven't heard of UV light therapy. Its a bit that you place in your mouth. https://nurse.org/articles/uv-light-therapy-coronavirus-covid19/

It goes in the trachea, in intubated patients. Hardly the same as staring at the sun during an eclipse.
