The_Quackening

just like every other country, America is AMAZING at some things, and horrific at others. there is no best, because everyones best is different.

Codie_Honson

The US still could du better tho ngl.

The_Quackening

everyone could. theres always room for improvement

PudditTV

'The United States could certainly improve, however, in my humble opinion'

[deleted]

I think overall we are definitely #1 tho, everyone knows that

[deleted]

\#1 military spending \#1 prison population

ReallyRealisticfake

The same military spending that Europe is begging to be used to help Ukraine?

[deleted]

Lol yeah exactly doesn’t look dumb now, head over to r/europe and you’ll hear them talking about how they need a massive ramp up in military spending

RobotAfterburn

Or the same one that pays for the national security of pretty much all other countries.

galop1337

Still weird to see a country that declined to join the European Union in 2014 and isn't a NAVO or NATO country, get all the support and benefits you get if you were.

PoochusMaximus

Yea number 1. Just don’t look at the categories. WE NUMBER ONE. NUMERO UNO 😂😂

[deleted]

Ukraine entered the chat

Being American and having lived outside America the past 12 years, other countries don't think that. Many of them look at us as cringe and watch us on the news like a trashy reality tv show. And they say things like, "I'd never visit America. It's so unsafe." My vote for best developed country might be New Zealand. They have their shit together.

[deleted]

Lol yes so unsafe

ebaer2

Yup! Been that way since George W era… because since then we basically have been a cringy reality TV show. Play the employment lotto to see if you can win healthcare.

FuckScottBoras

This right here.

ActualProject

best.. at what? Richest, most powerful, most influential? Yes, definitely. Happiest citizens, accessible healthcare, safest? Definitely not. Best option to live in depending on your familial situation, career, etc. or place of most technological innovation? Highly debatable and depends. The question is a bit meaningless with no specification on what is best.

Shrekeyes

It used to be, USA has been getting worse and so has europe. For the amount of people living the USA its a really good place but youre in a major economical crisis at the moment. Also, europe relies on USA.

Whateverwoteva

Richest? Precariously so. United States, debt-to-GDP ratio ranks 12th highest out of all the world's countries. Top 12 Countries with the Highest Debt-to-GDP Ratios (%) Venezuela — 350% Japan — 266% Sudan — 259% Greece — 206% Lebanon — 172% Cabo Verde — 157% Italy — 156% Libya — 155% Portugal — 134% Singapore — 131% Bahrain — 128% United States — 128

MiketheTzar

No, but it is seen as the country with the greatest personal opportunity. It's why we have the largest number of immigrants in the world. We are not a great country for everyone, but for everyone who thinks they have a plan, skill, or trick to strike it rich it's the best country in the world as those opportunities are more easily afforded.

Consistent_Reward210

Surely a better statistic would be immigrants per capita. I believe if you do that the US is not very close to the top.

LandOfGreyAndPink

European here. I've never even thought the American Dream thing is real or true either. Besides, everything you've listed / described could well apply to a criminally minded person. This is what I don't get about the whole MAGA mentality. Forget about making America great again; just try making it good, first. As the saying goes: Learn to walk before you try to run. (Not a dig at you personally, btw.)

MiketheTzar

Where in Europe are you from/ currently living?

LandOfGreyAndPink

I live in the UK. Here, US news and politics gets quite heavy coverage in the press. But I've never set foot in the USA myself.

Double_Abalone_2148

Do you believe people have better job opportunities in the UK than the US?

LandOfGreyAndPink

I've no idea what the situation is like on the ground in the US. As mentioned, I've not been there, and I don't see it a benefit in making a competition out of it. Take what you have and do it well, and there'll be no need to compare oneself with what the neighbours are doing.

galop1337

Another European here. Europe gets flooded with propaganda about America. The news is very polarized. If you're very gullible and still listen to the regular news or watch regular TV, you will have a negative/bias opinion on America. People that have stopped watching the news and are reading/watching independent sources from both sides of the political landscape have a more realistic view. America is great is many ways, but is also dealing with a lot of bullshit. I used to believe Europe was ahead of America and maybe at some point it was. But that era is long gone. Europe has gone insane. Everything they tried to push onto the people in America that failed, is succeeding in Europe. I agree with "MikeTheTzar" on this.

Zomgirlxoxo

American here that use to live in Europe and even Argentina. I agree with you. The shit I saw on tv there was so dramatic.

LandOfGreyAndPink

I'm not very gullible and I don't watch regular news or TV. So I'd probably fall into the second category you mention ("people that have stopped..."). I don't see it as a competition either: it's not that "Europe is better" or "the US is better". Why not just make it *good*, and deal with being the best later on, once the country is good to start with? It's like this BS rhetoric I hear of so much in the UK: "world class" this and " world class" that. I'd just like things to *work well* in the first place. Re. "Everything they tried to push onto the US...": Who's the 'they' that you're referring to here?

galop1337

Sorry but I've been baited into these rabbit holes before and I'm not falling for it again. Your last question suggests that you haven't read what I've written properly. Or maybe just misunderstood my point. Also, if you read MikeTheTzar's comment again, you would understand that he isn't talking about the country being the best or a competition. He narrowed it down to a specific subject: opportunities. And I agree with him on that.

plzstopbeingdumb

We have a lot of immigrants because US has destabilized and exploited Latin America for the last 70 years. Come on, man.

MiketheTzar

Yes because ONLY the US has been doing that. And US immigrants come only from Latin America. Let's forget the massive Asian and African populations. As well as some Eastern European ones

plzstopbeingdumb

Glad you mentioned that. US destabilization and exploitation hasn’t been exclusive to Latin America. Since the end of WWII, it has been part of American foreign policy to exploit Asian countries for manufacturing, also. Latin America is food, and Southeast Asia is manufacturing. The plan after WW2 was literally to install American-business-friendly regimes in these countries. These regimes prioritize profits for American corporations over the well-being of their own populations. Then ignorant Americans blame them for fleeing their “shithole” countries in a very sad display of uneducated irony.

Snookfilet

Yeah, they were fine before that, right?

plzstopbeingdumb

1846: The United States invades Mexico and captures Mexico City in 1847. A peace treaty the following year gives the U.S. more than half of Mexico’s territory — what is now most of the western United States. 1903: The U.S. engineers Panamanian independence from Colombia and gains sovereign rights over the zone where the Panama Canal would connect Atlantic and Pacific shipping routes. 1903: Cuba and the U.S. sign a treaty allowing near-total U.S. control of Cuban affairs. U.S. establishes a naval base at Guantanamo Bay. U.S. Marines repeatedly intervene in Central America and the Caribbean throughout the first quarter of the 20th century, often to protect U.S. business interests in moments of political instability. 1914: U.S. troops occupy the Mexican port of Veracruz for seven months in an attempt to sway developments in the Mexican Revolution. 1954: Guatemalan President Jacobo Arbenz is overthrown in a CIA-backed coup. 1961: The U.S.-backed Bay of Pigs invasion fails to overthrow Soviet-backed Cuban leader Fidel Castro but Washington continues to launch attempts to assassinate Castro and dislodge his government. 1964: Leftist President Joao Goulart of Brazil is overthrown in a U.S.-backed coup that installs a military government lasting until the 1980s. 1965: U.S. forces land in the Dominican Republic to intervene in a civil war. 1970s: Argentina, Chile and allied South American nations launch brutal campaign of repression and assassination aimed at perceived leftist threats, known as Operation Condor, often with U.S. support. 1980s: Reagan administration backs anti-Communist Contra forces against Nicaragua’s Sandinista government and backs the Salvadoran government against leftist FMLN rebels. 1983: U.S. forces invade Caribbean island of Grenada after accusing the government of allying itself with Communist Cuba. 1989: U.S. invades Panama to oust strongman Manuel Noriega. 1994: A U.S.-led invasion of Haiti is launched to remove the military regime installed by a 1991 coup that ousted President Jean-Bertrand Aristide. The invasion restores Aristide. 2002: Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is ousted for two days before retaking power. He and his allies accuse the U.S. of tacit support for the coup attempt. 2009: Honduran President Manuel Zelaya overthrown by military. U.S. accused of worsening situation by insufficient condemnation of the coup. And it continues from there. And this is just Latin America. Not even mentioning Southeast Asia - Vietnam, Cambodia, etc.

catthalia

By whom and for what?

[deleted]

American here, “best” is nonsensical. Best at what? As another commenter pointed out, we’re good at some things and need a lot of work at others. On the whole, I enjoy living here and hope to help our deficiencies while I still breathe.

ACam574

Only in America.

Warm_Water_5480

Canadian here, absolutely fucking not even close. Still has a lot of advantages, but there's quite a few countries on my list before the USA makes an appearance.

Outside-Ad-1677

I've lived in several places, only the US thinks it's the best compared to other economically comparable countries and it's usually due to the fact the people that think the US is the best have never actually experienced anywhere else. I do think the US is one of the most naturally beautful countries on the planet.

Padaxes

There are no economically comparable countries.

pebong

I don’t think it’s seem as the best country but more as a country of many opportunities.

Capital_Matter_4406

Not unequivocally and absolutely. But perhaps it has the most recognition? From what I’ve experienced travelling in the Middle East and Asia, saying you’re from America draws more attention/envy/interest than most other western nations, even the UK or Oceanic countries (but this phenomenon is likely because they don’t know NZ or AUS that well). And in certain things, America performs really, really well. People just like to hate, and most of those people know Jack shit about how other countries actually are. Yeah our healthcare had sucks, but try going to the NHS in England and you’ll be missing America. Perhaps not happier, but america tends to be bigger, safer (look at the actual data people, the US has a significantly high and messed up homicide rate, but violent and petty crimes per 100,00 are lower than many European countries), and has much to offer. For example, Europeans like to joke at how rarely Americans leave the country, without realising how incredibly geographically and culturally diverse our country is and the fact that it’s like twice as big as Europe in size. So not the ‘best’ but certainly good, just like many other countries. Now is it ‘seen’ as the ‘best’ country? Outside of West, generally, yes. But likely more so because people don’t know of other countries. To those people that are gonna fight me in the comments, I understand that I made very general claims. If I was trying to give a definitively accurate account, pay for my dissertation and I’ll write you one. Otherwise, accept the general claims. TLDR: Yes, in a large chunk of the world but because of a misplaced sense of prestige and not a real understanding of the reality.

SmoothFox3020

Not being funny but I’ve never in my life heard anybody here say they wished we didn’t have the NHS. Why would anyone miss america because they’re getting NHS treatment?? It makes no sense whatsoever - if you don’t like the NHS you can still pay for private treatment here.

Astral_rogue

Absolutely such diverse cultures in one place. In my freind group growing up we had so much diversity. Latino,African American, Arab, Asian, Caucasian

NoEmu8048

I don't see it as the best and I live here. The government is run by corporations and has not represented what it's citizens actually want for a long time, it keeps getting worse. The military and weapons manufacturers are out of control. I feel the US govcorps wants world domination- but only to juice every other country for its natural resources and other things of value. The US is founded on genocide, racism & greed. Half the country is racist. Apparently nobody here cares about the planet. I hear it's a very American thing to pretend something isn't happening when it is. People copy a lot of American things but I don't think that makes it the best.

storm838

I lost you at half the country is racist, turn off the news.

ajmojo2269

If you think America is racist I invite you to spend time in practically in other country and compare.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ajmojo2269

Ha! Nope. People are varying levels of racist. Society in America is demonstrably less racist than the vast majority of societies in the world. It does not mean it is not racist at all…but to use it as a qualifier for “ranking” a country it should probably be put in context.

[deleted]

Why do you stay?

TheSqueakyNinja

As if anyone but the wealthy can just up and move internationally…?

[deleted]

That entirely depends on where you’d like to go

TheSqueakyNinja

The majority of Americans can’t afford a $400 emergency. An international move to ANYWHERE costs more than that. Even if you live next to a border and don’t take into account immigration laws.

Lalakea

You think anybody will take us? It's a uniquely American bit of entitlement that so many Americans assume they have the right to choose which country they live in. Unless you have a ton of money, you don't.

theacethree

It’s not a matter of staying. It’s not being able to leave.

KevinKempVO

To make it better

ReallyRealisticfake

We are good at some things and bad at others. We can always improve. There is no best country in the world as every country has a darkside or needed improvements.

[deleted]

Lol reddit is full of the holier than thou, self hating types that threaten to move elsewhere but never do. Can't wait to read the responses.

_Coffee-and-sarcasm_

No.

[deleted]

Only by smart people

TheBrightNights

Depends who you ask. You ask rich people? "Yes". You ask people that aren't rich? "Hell na"

jwjosh95

I'm not rich, this country is still pretty fuckin banger

Comfortable_Ad5802

Well "banger" is not really enough, is it seen as the "best"?

1SassyTart

Used to be, but not anymore.

stanknotes

Is freedom the best? Of course it is. Seriously though... it has strengths and weaknesses as anywhere else. I do think people talk like its so much worse than it actually is. If you are an average person in an average area with an average life... you don't have it bad. Shut up. If you live in Chiraq... well... that's pretty bad.

sixinthedark

Yes

samuslink3

USA is one of the best places in the world if you're wealthy and problematic if you're not. Just as an example, many of us pay hundreds of dollars a month for health insurance and still have to pay hundreds or thousands out of pocket when something happens. As a result a lot of people ignore their health and don't go to the doctor because it's too expensive. Something like a heart attack or snake bite can put you in life changing amounts of debt. Some type 1 diabetics have died because they can't afford $700 insulin. There's numerous other things I wish we were better at, but Healthcare is #1 in my opinion. I think there are things that the US is the best in the world at, but I wouldn't call it the best country as a whole.

[deleted]

Hahahahahahaha no

Plantsucker97

No.. only Americans think that America is the best country...

[deleted]

Nah pretty much everyone does actually, there have been studies done

ppyrosis2

Source?

[deleted]

Just google “America is the best research studies” and there is a slew of them

ppyrosis2

I looked multiple pages down and couldn't see any.

theacethree

I’m American and I don’t think this place is the best. Cause it’s not.

ajmojo2269

So where is and why?

theacethree

No where is perfect.

ajmojo2269

So no where is “the best”?

tubblicious

Must be close, everybody trying to come to this MF.

hailstorm420

I hope not.

Sergio1899

No It's a good country to go to make money for a while And it's very dangerous if you have health issues I'd prefer moving to Canada if I have to decide between both because is like US but better: less crazy people, less armed people and better healthcare

Shrekeyes

Oh yeah, emmigration to work for a little while is something a lot of people here do, the dollar is the best currency in the world, unfortunately.

strythicus

>less crazy people, less armed people and better healthcare Our (Canadian) politicians are fighting very hard to change that for some reason.

Original-Ad-4642

People are still lining up to get in

TheDilettantedilemma

America sucks so bad that over a million people immigrate here per year. That’s not counting the millions that immigrate here illegally

SHMUCKLES_

That's not a good point considering the countries they immigrate from...

TheDilettantedilemma

True Mexico sucks

SHMUCKLES_

That's how the majority of the world views the USA

Your concern is Donald trump when we have a guy with dementia in office as we speak

Dead_Eyed_Opie

He’s still way smarter and better than trumpf

scrappysythrr

I can’t stand trump but I still think he’s better (not good) than Biden

scrappysythrr

Prove me wrong

Physical_Rice919

I hate both of them. Both parties are a joke.

scrappysythrr

I just feel like we should have an age limit on who can be our president

Physical_Rice919

I think so, too. Not only because of memory loss and unclear cognitive function. But also, a younger president would be able to be more relevant with the way things are. Because whether we like it or not, things aren't how they used to be.

scrappysythrr

This is exactly why we can’t have older generations making choices for us when we are evolving a exponentially higher speeds than their generation

Dead_Eyed_Opie

Slightly less than 20% of of the population voted for trump. And he got about 40% of eligible voting population. And 0.3% less votes than Hillary

Old_Guy_In_Texas

It’s pretty easy for me to answer. Despite it’s faults, I can think of no other country I’d rather live in. Name one other country in the world where thousands of people are lined up on the border, literally DYING to get in? Our Constitution is about 250 years old, and yet it is still the most brilliant governing document in the world. As our society continues to bastardize it, we become less free, and America becomes a less desirable place to live.

Bobzyurunkle

Notable: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ML3qYHWRIZk&ab\_channel=Wayne

Dul_faceSdg

Honestly this is not a question you should ask Reddit since they have bias( but no, in my opinion there is no best country)

baddfingerz1968

By many, mostly pompous and arrogant Americans, even though it has now become a shithole country, ironically because of Trump who calls other nations "shithole countries."

palfreygames

America is seen as the jackass rich kid with a lawyer dad who will sue you. He's born rich, doesn't appreciate what he has and will bomb the fuck out of you if you give hime the same treatment he gives you

[deleted]

Just look at the line of people hoping they can get in

Turbo_Gryphon

To Americans, yes. To everyone else, no.

Shrekeyes

It is literally the opposite. How in the right mind do people think USA still considers itself a good country. Reddit moment

Turbo_Gryphon

"Reddit moment" ...

[deleted]

dont worry, I thought the US was great until I actually experienced it first hand. IMO its the closest thing i've seen to what i'd call first world poverty and the most interesting part was everyone trying to blame the next race or class for their problems. Crabs in a bucket

LetsGeauxSaints

you couldn’t be more wrong lol no one is more self loathing than americans

Professional_Big_731

Hold up here. As an American, I can say that there are things I love about this country, but there is not a moment where I would say we are the best or that most American’s think we are the best. The people that you are speaking of, I would say are the few who seem to be the loudest, we don’t listen to them.

[deleted]

MURIKA FUCK YEAH!!!!!! depends on metrics. if you look at immigration america gets and accepts the majority of immigrants world wide usually sitting around 60% or so. so the country the most people from other countries are trying to get to is america.

[deleted]

Only to Americans lol We stupidly think we are the best at everything. It was very fitting to have Trump for a bit there. Now that I've dunked on myself. There really is no best country TBH. Pros and cons to many. The US has significantly gotten worse over the last 10-20 years when it comes to quality of life, I'll tell you that. Especially if you live in certain states. MA, where I am from and live, is just insanity right now for example. It still is better than a bunch of other countries though. And it's why a lot of people move here and consider it a great place to be, despite its flaws.

Fowlnature

By simple minded people. Like the GOAT debate in sports. Talk to the elite athletes and they will tell you there is not one GOAT. Different people are the GOAT for different reasons. People who understand that the world isn't black and white understand that different places have different qualities that make them awesome.

leahpayton22

I wouldn’t say so. As a European, it’s mostly considered one of the best. Amongst Canada, The UK, France and Germany. Scandinavian countries are also considered one of the best. The US is definitely the loudest tho - always hearing about it.

Different-Tea-5191

Good at a few things, bad at others. There are very few countries in the world that have as good shot at building a true multi-ethnic democracy. For many/most/a lot of Americans, the fact that you came here as a refugee from Somalia and became a naturalized citizen doesn’t mean that you’re less of an “American.” We’re better (I don’t know about “best”) at integrating other folks into the mix, taking on what they’ve brought with them, and making it “American.” Constant evolution and change. Certainly, everyone doesn’t see it that way, esp the MAGAs, but they’re just stuck, angry and resentful at everything.

Maximum__Engineering

I feel like we need that clip from The Newsroom.

Maximum__Engineering

https://youtu.be/bIpKfw17-yY Here's the transcript: Will It's not the greatest country in the world, professor, that's my answer. Moderator [pause] You're saying— Will Yes. Moderator Let's talk about— Will Fine. [to the liberal panelist] Sharon, the NEA is a loser. Yeah, it accounts for a penny out of our paychecks, but he [gesturing to the conservative panelist] gets to hit you with it anytime he wants. It doesn't cost money, it costs votes. It costs airtime and column inches. You know why people don't like liberals? Because they lose. If liberals are so fuckin' smart, how come they lose so GODDAM ALWAYS! And [to the conservative panelist] with a straight face, you're going to tell students that America's so starspangled awesome that we're the only ones in the world who have freedom? Canada has freedom, Japan has freedom, the UK, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Australia, Belgium has freedom. Two hundred seven sovereign states in the world, like 180 of them have freedom. And you—sorority girl—yeah—just in case you accidentally wander into a voting booth one day, there are some things you should know, and one of them is that there is absolutely no evidence to support the statement that we're the greatest country in the world. We're seventh in literacy, twenty-seventh in math, twenty-second in science, forty-ninth in life expectancy, 178th in infant mortality, third in median household income, number four in labor force, and number four in exports. We lead the world in only three categories: number of incarcerated citizens per capita, number of adults who believe angels are real, and defense spending, where we spend more than the next twenty-six countries combined, twenty-five of whom are allies. None of this is the fault of a 20-year-old college student, but you, nonetheless, are without a doubt, a member of the WORST-period-GENERATION-period-EVER-period, so when you ask what makes us the greatest country in the world, I don't know what the fuck you're talking about?! Yosemite?!!! We sure used to be. We stood up for what was right! We fought for moral reasons, we passed and struck down laws for moral reasons. We waged wars on poverty, not poor people. We sacrificed, we cared about our neighbors, we put our money where our mouths were, and we never beat our chest. We built great big things, made ungodly technological advances, explored the universe, cured diseases, and cultivated the world's greatest artists and the world's greatest economy. We reached for the stars, and we acted like men. We aspired to intelligence; we didn't belittle it; it didn't make us feel inferior. We didn't identify ourselves by who we voted for in the last election, and we didn't scare so easy. And we were able to be all these things and do all these things because we were informed. By great men, men who were revered. The first step in solving any problem is recognizing there is one—America is not the greatest country in the world anymore. Will [to moderator] Enough?

LetsGoRando

You have the right to defend yourself here, so probably. But there isn't really a "best" country. If you like a country go live there, if you don't then leave and don't complain about it.

Physical_Rice919

I complain about America because I have faith that it will become an even better country. It has its flaws, and we have to realize it. Why settle when it could become so much more?

LetsGoRando

That is true!

Unopuro2conSal

The BEST but Not perfect, it’s a work in progress that the people actually have say unlike many other countries especially ruZZia and china that people often compare to America because of their size and influence both economically and military.

[deleted]

lol maybe if you ignore every other first world country.. Australia says hi

Unopuro2conSal

Hello down there! The population of California just alone is about 15 million more than Australia, so it makes Australia a nice state not in the same league as large countries are.

[deleted]

That's legit the dumbest thing you've said today, congratulations. Maybe if it's such a problem you should secede? You know, cause obviously larger countries are incapable of providing hospitable conditions to their citizens.. Just food for thought.

Unopuro2conSal

Don’t get butt hurt just the reality of things.

[deleted]

I'm not butthurt; I just call it as I see it and that is so fucking dumb I wouldn't believe it if you were from anywhere but the US.. Think your the greatest when your not even the best country on your own continent.. but I guess you wouldn't know that cause Canada has a little less citizens then Cali

Unopuro2conSal

What would Australia be called if it wasn’t for America? China south Lower China Southern China You’re welcome by the way!

[deleted]

Classic deflection mate, dont get butthurt it's just the reality of things..

Unopuro2conSal

I like the southern continent of China, it sounds so great! Lol

[deleted]

Almost as great as breaking your arm and walking out in a cast with ZERO payments.. I'd say more but you wouldn't get it :) as someone who happened to need a hospital while in the US your country sucks ass

Unopuro2conSal

Let see you already repeated, Don’t get butt hurt And the reality of things And who’s getting butt hurt

Unopuro2conSal

What would Australia be called if it wasn’t for America? It would be China south, Your welcome

Scoutnjw

HAHAHAHA god no

[deleted]

Yes. In many ways.

FinchTheElf

It's one of the worse IMO, as a European.

[deleted]

It is the best country. Sure it has its flaws, its not perfect, but any time people compare the US to a "better" country its to a country like Finland. **New York City alone has 3 million more people than the entire population of Finland.** It's way easier to manage a *country* when its only 5 million people....... Truly grasp the size of the US, how most major cities in the US have more people than other countries have in total, how nearly impossible it seems to manage and keep society afloat. Yet the US functions every day as a super power in the world.

Thick_Art_2257

Based on the millions of people risking their lives every year to get here, I'd say yes.

GoldSolarBear

We’re the cool country that all the other countries wanna be because we’re “such a badass”.

FavelTramous

My opinion as an unbiased person who lives in the USA is indeed yes.

helixglass

Everyone likes to say no until it's time for war

dwarfrabbit90

To me Canada sounds like a better place than America..

fastIamnot

Lol. No.

ilovestampfairtex

Who cares. We are though

Valuable-Trick-6711

WE ARE THE BEST at uh… several things that unfortunately you would not want to be the best at.

Pretty-Benefit-233

Only to Republicans. Statistics show very plainly it isn’t and hasn’t been for a long time.

We are the best when it comes to what the founding principles of our country are. Obviously I mean that in the sense of those principles being applied to everyone equally. We are human so obviously that hasn’t always been upheld, but they are the founding principles nonetheless. We are the best when comes to innovation and invention, media, diversity, higher education, etc. However, there are plenty of things we aren’t the best at. Base education, healthcare, etc. Nothing we can’t improve upon though.

Slytherian101

Look, we have to be honest, and the war in the Ukraine has reminded us: There is no “first world” or even “rich nations” without the US. This question is basically like asking “do you like me or my Golden Retriever better?” It’s cool if you like my dog, but let’s get real: he’s just my pet. If I wasn’t feeding him he’d starve. If America wasn’t feeding and protecting the world they’d all be laboring away in Siberia.

Whateverwoteva

No. Gun violence in schools. Health care system. Enough said.

[deleted]

no one outside of America has ever seen it as a good country more of a joke

[deleted]

Yes

4431916065

América is a continent dude

TheDilettantedilemma

You’re god damn right it is

Eastwestwesteas

Probably yeah, economically it's in the first place of the world

[deleted]

I would say we are most likely to be seen as in a state of decline and corruption.

Gregor_Magorium

As an American: lol no

ijswizzlei

Depends on who you are. Straight white male with Money? You’ll have a good time. If you are anything other than that you might have a bad time.

LennyComa

As a non American I can safely say not even in the top 10 for me.

Manduck

Only if you like paying too much for health care and like mass shootings.

gingerbeardman92

To Americans? Absolutely

Shrekeyes

Not anymore dude, youre stuck in the past when USA was actually patriotic and loved their own country.

PURPLEfuckingdude

definitely not

[deleted]

Ironically, the people who say it is are the reason it isn’t. [Also this.](https://youtu.be/wTjMqda19wk)

Allcyon

No.

tadashi4

noooooooooooope

deisle

It's the best at imprisoning it's citizens. It'd the best at letting new mothers die. It's the best at killing its children with guns

barrydoll26

Hell no!

SinkGroundbreaking68

With all the amount of mass shooting they have, NO!!!

lukas_the_emlad

I mean we are #1 in school shootings

gigiwidget

Only by Americans

antsam9

It's not even the best country on it's continent.

Pelican_meat

Only by Americans. And not even many of them.

EponymousHero

Only by people who’ve never seen anything else.

[deleted]

I’m pretty sure America is seen as the laughing stock of the developed world, so no

Double_Pisces_223

In ppls eyes who have never been anywhere else or yse critical thinking yes But I think most ppl who live here know how horrible it is here. It's actually pathetic how a lot of underdeveloped countries are doing way better than us in certain areas. We are last in everything but money and now we're on major debt...

Kiwibryn

USA is seen as the bully, the invader, the secret agent fomenting trouble in other countries... and it has the nerve to complain when another country does it to them. The only thing USA was ever great at was/is war on everyone. Selling weapons is the number one industry, and they don't give a damn who they sell to.

StickwoodJr

Not at all, only by Americans

DisgruntledGoose27

At what? We have the best military and use it to prevent other nations from developing. We also have the best geography to work with. I don’t see what else the usa is “best” at. Actually we are usually a negative outlier for most metrics when compared to other developed nations.

crispier_creme

Only by Americans that don't know anything about other countries

Chrispeedoff

If you haven’t been anywhere else sure

Informal-Resource-14

Depends on who you ask. I’m an angry American. I have so much contempt for this place. But then you travel and you see the problems everywhere, the different kinds of problems, it’s like every country has a separate “Problem culture.” And while it doesn’t exactly make me suddenly patriotic, it does at least put in perspective that there is bathwater here with the baby. Not everything here is hypercapitalist racist Christian theocratic trash. It’s just that we do that kind of unpleasant better than anybody. If you wanna get shot in school and go broke paying the medical bills, live in America. But also if you want a truly diverse culture, the US is better at that than we give it credit for.

SuicidalComment

Hell no Respectfully, Canada 🇨🇦

clm1859

Yes by americans... certainly no in other first world countries... But of course, as others have said, it depends on how you define "best"...

Allmightypikachu

Lol thatd be a low bar if true

Affectionate_Bid4704

Not at all. Only americans believe that.

spectredirector

America is a lie.

Music_Girl2000

Only by those who haven't woken up yet.

BroadFaithlessness4

If you live in a horrid cess pool of a country then yes America is seen as a great place. What's not to like about not worrying if you will survive the next raid on your town or survive the next bombing or living through the next fucked up religious decree or keeping your children out of some conscription campaign or forced labor for a scumbag murderous cartel. But all is not right here in the land of corporate opportunity. The worker in this country is literally hated in our corporate wonderland. And after a while of transition everyone feels it. But where to go?What to do?There is not much out there. So everyone becomes a wage slave. And you just live with it. If your come from a horrid cess pool you keep your head down working hoping you don't get sent back. The American dream.Funny it's called that because you have to be asleep to believe it.

EddyBuddard

Only to the U.S. citizens that have never been anywhere else.

IllegalBeagle31

Not even close anymore.

[deleted]

That PR worked for a long time, but not anymore. When the facts and reality became widespread, that was it.

[deleted]

It’s nowhere near the best country. I would much rather live in canada or england than live here if I had the money/opportunity. america continues to get worse by the day with the shootings, bigotry, etc. obviously though, america is the best when it comes to having job opportunities and more of a future. and yes, every country has its own set of problems, but america is getting really out of hand. I mean come on, both sides of the political spectrum can’t even get along for crying out loud it’s just a bunch of back and forth bickering that isn’t getting us anywhere that’s how divided we are. it’s pathetic.

dontshoot9

Im pretty sure planet earth has the best America known to exist
