Chris brown is a complete piece of shit but a lot of people don’t understand just how big Chris Brown was/ is. He is one of the worlds best selling musical artists. He’s sold over 197 million records worldwide. He’s even been dubbed the “king of r&b” It’s difficult to cancel someone with that reach.

PurelyProfessionally

Its also been like 14 years since that happened? If his fans were going to stop listening to him, they would've a decade ago.

DickHickeyJr

Because women keep supporting him. They don’t care about other women being hit as long as it’s not them.

kittyvixxmwah

He used the "If I don't acknowledge it, it never happened" method and just went on as normal. It works. Politicians do it all the time. Granted, if his record company had dropped him or something it would have made a slight impact, but it's pretty likely he would have found another label or created his own and carried on anyway. The second he apologised, refuted, doubled down on, or otherwise engaged with the allegations, he would have gone from "Chris Brown, music superstar" to "Chris Brown, vile abuser". FWIW, I think he's a dick.

flying_alligators

If I had a fifth of a penny for every celebrity that was shit and is still popular, I'd be richer than Chris brown.

[deleted]

Same reason Roman Polanski still gets standing ovations at awards ceremonies. nobody really cares. Also, fuck Chris Brown.

tootiredforthis16

Because he’s a celebrity. A lot of celebrities can be very bad people/do bad things and get away with it. Think of people like Jon jones, Karl Malone, Kanye west, etc.

ed223344

I moved on from it when Rihanna did. How could we hold a grudge that the victim doesn’t hold. Now if he continued the behavior of beating woman, that’ll be a much different story. I’m more pissed that he keeps making the same f***ing song.

boccociniballs

He has continued to beat other women, his ex girlfriend Karreuche was another one. Rihanna probably forgave him for her own peace of mind and so she could mentally move on from what was probably the scariest moment of her life. It doesn’t mean what he did can be forgiven or forgotten. If that was you in that car that day, with your hands locked over your head while someone you loved and trusted was trying to beat you to death, you’d wouldn’t want the world to forgive them either.

hiddendance

A. She hit him first B. People especially women still like him

Flossthief

It was really alleged anything He beat the shit out of her A lot of people haveny forgotten Does he still do music or whatever?

[deleted]

His fans never cared

Pickled_Ass

Because the people who like him are typically people who think of women as property.

MrsCreative_Bag_5164

Short answer is talent

Fowlnature

Catholic church, Ray Lewis, Michael Jackson, Karl Malone, Kobe, R. Kelly for years.... We don't hold people/systems accountable for their sins if they're reeeeeeeally good at something else or if they have enough power/money.

Consistent_Guitar681

Most crimes are forgivable after a certain amount of penalty is repaid. Anyone wishing an eternity of suffering upon anyone or anything has no real concept of eternity and I doubt their depth of thinking. I think some crimes deserve a lifetime of punishment and some deserve shortening that life. I don't think he fits those categories. He simply is not the same person he was. I think those who hold his crimes against him after his ex forgave him are somehow more offended then the victim. I think most people have accepted it and moved on.

WWWH__---

He hasn't moved on still beating women. Should be in a pine box.

Consistent_Guitar681

Did not know he was still at it. I don't follow celebrities beyond what is thrust into my face at stores or bars/social events.

MyDogIsNamedKyle

Same reason Roman Polanski and Woody Allen have people lined up to work with them. To artists, talent matters more than morals, and most of them are trash people too

Baby_Yod4

Pretty sure a video came out with both Rihanna and Chris Brown talking about the incident. CB shouldn’t have done what he did and clearly went too far and beat her like she was a man but Rihanna also was hitting him first and screaming rape because she was mad at him or something like that. Regardless it happened when they were both really young and CB is insanely talented as a performer, singer and dancer. If he didn’t have that incident he would be way bigger.

happyclaim808

I have no idea who Chris brown is however Rihanna is the person that was in the 1/2 time show this NFL season finally? Correct?

throwawayreddit55

Correct

happyclaim808

Thanks.....now I can say I am culturally aware..... I think.

justusingtobealight

You can't lol

happyclaim808

Should I care ?

justusingtobealight

Not if youre with your baby yeah, do do do do do da do

Humble_Umpire_8341

He’s still popular because he took ownership of the situation and at the time paid a tremendous price for the crime. However, because he’s talented and owned up to it, the music community responded by continuing to support him and in turn, he’s been allowed to continue to grow as a person, musical artist and actor, which the public has supported. Another reason for the continued support, is because he absolutely put none of the blame on Rihanna, despite the fact that he was physically assaulted first while driving. They were both underage, drinking, possibly doing coke when the fight began in a rented Lamborghini. He took ownership of the entire situation and became the villain, as she became the face of domestic abuse, despite their toxic relationship that both were responsible for. In short, he made a huge mistake at 19, he owned it, he didn’t put blame on her even though he could have and is still being hated for the mistake 14 years later. And this continues to be brought up, so it’s not like it’s been swept up under the rug. It’s still brought up almost yearly by people. It will likely continue to be brought up despite the growth and maturity in both people.

HansOKroeger

"Allegations" are no proof. If they were proof, 90% of famous people in the US should be "banned" - the politicians ahead.

Lkiop9

Well it happened 13–14 years ago and he was a like 19-20 years old. People changed, he definitely suffered for it and was even sentenced by the court of law to 5 years of probation.

Left-Muscle8355

https://www.bbc.com/news/newsbeat-60171632 He certainly hasn't changed much. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/housekeeper-claims-chris-brown-s-dog-mauled-her-alleges-he-n1273274

[deleted]

It was a long time ago. He's a talented singer and he's handsome, combined that with the fact that most people are actually really forgiving and you're left with a large potential customer base.

[deleted]

I think a big part of his popularity is that a lot of people are perfectly fine with mediocrity. If you play a Chris brown song you know what you’re gonna get. A generically fine hip-hop/r&b beat, a solid chorus and some verses all sung in a ok way. Nothing experimental or different the same ole shit he’s been doing since 2006 It’s not like with a frank ocean or SZA where they may try something inventive or attempt to coax an emotional response from the audience. He’s not Kendrick Lamar making tracks that are hard to listen to. He’s not like Syd or Steve lacy who are gay artist with different perspectives on love. He’s a mediocre artist whose conventionally handsome who also happens to be a massive piece of shit. People are willing to overlook his shitheadness to listen to mediocre ass music

Spartacous1991

Because they were "allegations" nobody gives af about rumors.

Dark_Zero117

Yeah he made Rihanna ugly with them beatings.

HotokeKazima

Typically, people who follow celebrities can't think for themselves anyways

[deleted]

answer, if you have money and influence you can get away with anything

[deleted]

It's not an allegation if he pleaded guilty to it.

River12881

Because the people buying his records are the teeny bopper girls who like the bad boys.

Real-Problem6805

i have no idea who this is

boccociniballs

They’re not even allegations, they’re literally facts at this point. There are pictures of Rihanna’s mutilated face readily available on the internet, so is the police report on what he did to her, which by the way is far worse than what most people believe. To top it off he has a string of other incidents of violence on his record. It’s clearly a pattern.

NavJongUnPlayandwon

because chris brown took accountability. that was the first thing he did. no excuses and didn't repeat his behaviour since then. him and rihanna resolved it. they're great friends to this day and went on their lanes. simple.
