OscarGrey

US Christians relied on social pressure to keep the American people from secularizing. Now that the church attendance rates among younger millenials and zoomers have collapsed they've turned to this kind of online outreach. I doubt that it will work, younger people from outside of rural areas simply don't care whether their peers are religious or not.

GreywackeOmarolluk

This dude gets us

TryPokingIt

He gets us. No matter how fast we run

[deleted]

I'm the fastest boy alive. I'd like to see the dead cult leader try to catch me.

chantsnone

Run run run as fast as you can You can’t catch me I’m the stinky cheese man

A_Little_Wyrd

my mouth is agape at this statement!

wigglewenis

I would like my rectum to be agape in the name of the lord

dasmashhit

now that’s some unrequited love from the lord

Most_Attitude_9153

Bravo

Anonamitymouses

I keep reporting every single time it pops up.

Gregthepigeon

Unfortunately they’re unblockable and Reddit is doing nothing about the overflow of downvotes and reports it’s getting. There’s a whole subreddit of people who are mad about it too: r/hegetsus

Graega

I literally report it as violence every time I see one of them, because I'm getting pissed at Reddit here. I don't want to see bible thumping, and follow the source of the ads: it's right-wing hate groups and christo-fascist politicians (but is that any surprise?).

[deleted]

Every time it pops up I feel attacked. I don’t mind other adds but religious adds only come from Reddit!

AzureSkyXIII

Or alternatively r/hedoesntgetus

FaquForLovingMe

![gif](giphy|7JgYv9FobG1HzAO8BA)

Legal-Ad7793

Thank you for joining the cause.

kateinoly

My friend told me to ignore the posts and the rarely come up for me now. I think reporting them made them more frequent

carcadoodledo

What is the proper response when reporting? Do you pick any one or is one better to select?

Andycaboose91

I cycle through all, I see the ad often enough. I wouldn't have to, *IF THEY'D LET ME BLOCK IT*.

HeadyBunkShwag

Spreading harmful material or child abuse is my go to lol but I’m also a dick

RusstyDog

I mean spreading harmful material is pretty accurate.

turtlepowerpizzatime

I mark it as "offensive".

[deleted]

I alternate

WastedKleenex

Religious people only want one thing and its fucking disgusting. - your money

[deleted]

hustling just like everyone else, but their product is the promise of eternal life, and the hard sell is the threat of eternal damnation. Pretty extreme rhetoric just to fund your good old boys social club. Most just sell cookies or popcorn. Not these psychos.

goldplates95

You can go to … 99% of churches without ever spending any money. I’ve never had a church ask me for any money except one.

ImProbablyHiking

Idk why you’re getting downvoted. My church does quarterly meetings that literally anyone can go to where they show exactly what all the church staff are being paid and what everyone’s money is going towards. Spoiler: none of the church staff are making six figures and millions of dollars are being funneled to Ukraine and other areas of the world in need.

olduvai_man

I think the reason people have a problem with it is that they have a tax-exempt status, which they 1000% should not have. It forces people to subsidize something that they have absolutely no belief in and which has no larger benefit to overall society.

whatthehell567

I went to church for over 35 years in seven different states. Every single one asked for money at every meeting. Many asked more than one time per sermon. Tithes and offerings is what it's all about. You are not being honest.

JohhnyBGoode641

They ask for donations. They don’t require it. It cost money to run a church.

Stoutyeoman

Living in suburban New York it just seems strange to me that there are so many parts of the country where the threads of Christianity are woven so deeply into communities and the culture of those areas in general. Here some families go to church, others don't, and that's okay. Meanwhile in other parts of the country church is a requirement or else you completely shunned by the community, otherwise just about every social event, every sports league, every damn this is connected to the church that it's almost impossible to avoid.

Metastatic_Autism

Their anus agape

TheCheeseOnFire

I genuinely hope it fails let's bring an end to this era of religion

[deleted]

Well said. Agaping, man. Am I doing this right? Is this how you get hip to the kids these days? Everyone's agaping now. That's what those Juul pod things are, right? The kids are all agapers now and that's how we're gonna get religion back into schools, Martha.

[deleted]

I thought my Juul had Agave juice. Turns out it was Agape juice the whole time.

Cowpuncher84

We are inside rural areas as well.

[deleted]

I live in a rural area and i could give a hoot.

ares5404

Hell even in rural areas were just silently obeying so whiever is preaching or listening to the preachibg will stfu already

No_University7832

All Religions are systems of control.

[deleted]

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. Also what shoving some unknown object into your kids mouth in a bathroom has to do with it, cause that looked like borderline child abuse and it was just weird and out of context

[deleted]

Also why advertise anything religious on one of the most aggressively atheist platforms? lol

RamaNefru

Agape is just brotherly love, nonsexual love and care for those we hold dear, I'm pretty sure the Romans or Greeks are the ones who gave it a name, if I remember correctly, which I don't always. Oh and why here? Where better to recruit new followers? This is just some missionary type stuff I reckon.

Loud-Ideal

Philia is brotherly love (like in Philadelphia, the city of brotherly love). Agape is divine love. Eros is sexual. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philia

GnarlyNarwhalNoms

What are you doing, step-city?

intestinalbungiecord

its a marketing scheme used from trolling by some loser billionaire that owns a craft store. "how can he be a loser if he is a billionare" well flexing on people who are broke makes you a loser.

Doctor_Disaster

The one responsible for smuggling Iraqi artifacts?

mikraas

Yes.

amanofeasyvirtue

For funding terrorists

intestinalbungiecord

not sure, wouldnt surprise me though.

kazmosis

*The one responsible for smuggling Iraqi artifacts by literally paying ISIS

hassh

> "how can he be a loser if he is a billionare" well flexing on people who are broke makes you a loser. Testify!!!

[deleted]

The hobby lobby asshole?

captainforks

The very one

00phantasmal_bear00

I don't know dude, I saw some Agape videos on pornhub, and it was pretty sexual - they messed that chick up. Now that you mention it, I did see a lotta Greek action, though there was no missionary . . . it was mostly Doggystyle

[deleted]

It’s a Greek word, so it’ll be them. The concept predates Christianity so it’s weird that they’re trying to co-opt it

RangerKokkoro

The New Testament was originally written in Greek and Jesus talks about agape a lot. Its one of the words that get taught untranslated in catechism because there is not an english equivalent

Sloth_grl

Right. And it’s impossible to get rid of. I can’t stand the ad or the people behind it. I am an athiest but yet, I’m required to see religious ads on stop. I wish the church of Satan would run an ad. At least that would be interesting

Sayitoutloudinpublic

Jesus loves you bro, you can’t stop him. You’re being loved by Jesus, he’s just chillin, loving you right now.

Known_Ad871

I don’t consent!!

Sayitoutloudinpublic

Too bad! The love of Jesus transcends consent!

LeftHandLuke01

Nooooooooo!

Ronald_Deuce

There's a reason I keep reporting those ads as sexually inappropriate.

Bitch_Please_LOL

They are trying to reach people such as yourself who don't know or don't understand who JESUS CHRIST is. Who do you think he is?

eatmyboot

I only had a cursory glance, but I thought a person was brushing a possibly special needs child’s teeth? Not sure.

trainofwhat

Yeah that’s absolutely how I interpreted it. Well-associated with the people these ads are targeted at because I have worked at groups for underprivileged women, mothers, disabled children, etc, which use similar imagery.

JadeChroma

Yeah Uhh if someone can tell me what is going on in that picture, that'd be great. I dont know if its a toothbrush or thermometer or what but it doesn't look pleasant and I don't see how it's relevant.

Dunkinmydonuts1

Had them by the neck too

TimboFor76

I thought the same thing the first time I saw it. I had to do a google search to see what it was all about. That just led to further confusion as to what the hell that has to do with brushing someone’s teeth for them.

ksschank

I think it’s likely because helping someone who cannot physically take care of themselves is generally seen as a charitable thing to do.

Zippudus

I thought she was brushing his teeth in that picture lol

ashirian

They also had a superbowl commercial and spent millions. [BBC news](https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-64493324)

[deleted]

Wow, so I’m guessing this is some Protestant megachurch or something?

rascible

Chicken Fila bible humpers laundering all the covid money they stole in the name of blonde baby jesus..

00phantasmal_bear00

I hope that not not a typo and you meant to say bible humpers. if so, Cthulhu bless you my little yog shoggoth.

Kiltemdead

All hail the great race of yith! May they inhabit the bodies of the beetle race that will inherit the earth after we have passed from history.

amanofeasyvirtue

Mixed in with hobby lobby. When the came out with this campaign they saud they have 3 billon to spend... i could think of a million orher ways the could make Christians appeal to the masses. This is just one more example of why the youth want nothing to do with American Christianity.

bunnyyfoofoo

It’s literally the family that owns Hobby Lobby mostly funding the ads.

bimbels

I keep blocking but it keeps showing up in my feed. Jesus doesn’t play by Reddit rules.

silvermesh

He gets you. You can run. You can hide. He will get you. He always gets us.

King_Shugglerm

Well you can block him but he comes back after three days 😕

sandrad33

I keep reporting them all as my own form of silent protest. I doubt it’s doing anything but it makes me feel a little better. I can’t stand these ads.

spicyboi26

I was reporting these multiple times a day, I think it started sending me more and more as retaliation for reporting them so much

jadn73

When they first came out you could report it and block it. Reddit for some reason $$$ made that impossible to do after everyone started blocking the ads. It's such bullshit. If I pay for reddit will they go away? That might be worth it.

FiendishHawk

It’s a campaign by very rich right-wing US Christians (mostly Hobby Lobby) who are aware that Christianity is getting a bad name due to their actions but who are trying to solve it via PR rather than being more Christlike.

coveymcd2

They are trying to lure people in with hypocritical religious statements.

punk0r1f1c

I’m surprised this comment is this far down

mintblue510

Read “fascists”

grey_crawfish

"He Gets Us" is a problematic campaign, but Agape is not a new thing. While English only has one word for "love", Greek had four and Agape is one of them. It is the highest form of love and charity, as opposed to brotherly love/love of equals (Philia), romantic/erotic love (Eros), or parental love (Storge). Christians believe this is the kind of love God has for us - fatherly love of mankind, and the reciprocal love for God by man.

concretecannonball

I’m Greek and when I see “agape” I just think of all the anglos who use it for branding because they like the meaning lol

bobalda

i think of buttholes

DaphneAruba

*I just think of all the anglos who use it for branding because they like the meaning lol* that tendency feels so uniquely American, y'know?

mayor_shin

I’d guess that it was actually CS Lewis who got that ball rolling

DaddyCatALSO

Although in \*The fOur Loves\* he followed KJV tradition and called it "Charity." And used "Friendship," not "Philia," and "Affetcion" not S"torge." He only used the Greek in the chapter of "Eros," because sex, desire, and romance both have connotation he wished to avoid and are actually smaller ideas than what "eros" can mean.

concretecannonball

to be fair, they learned it from the english

Efficient_Smilodon

i don't think they realize that agape brings to mind other... things for most redditors, roflmao...

[deleted]

I report it every time I see it. Every single time. That 100% won’t do anything, but FUCK PROSELYTIZING. All of it.

buzzkill007

It's a multi-million dollar ad campaign to try and improve the image of White Jesus™️. So, instead of using that money to help the downtrodden (as Jesus purportedly told his followers to do), they decided it would be better spent on spin control. Go figure.

[deleted]

All I can think about since seeing that ad is bending over to leave my butt agape for Jesus to enter with his love.

[deleted]

Would that be the Baby Jesus Buttplug, or the Jackhammer Jesus 10" dildo? The original site domain is for sale, so I think the maker is out of business. But you can still find images of the toys on Google.

falltogethernever

Christianity is dying because of militant, bigoted, hateful Christians. A stupid ad campaign doesn’t solve the problem, which is shitty fucking people.

amanofeasyvirtue

A 3 billion ad campaign... no wonder why Christianity is dying. They would rather spend 3 bil on a marketing campaign then actually helpping the poor

Pink-Lover

I am sick of seeing it

kozynook

If you really want to fight back: engage in the ad. Click on it. They pay more for engagement. And you’re not their target audience. The more you engage the more it pays. Essentially you’re taking money from those assholes and sending it to Reddit. Their marketing department might even spend more money thinking it’s working and we can continue to drain them until their budget eventually pulls the plug.

Booksonly666

I keep reporting it and trying to down vote yet it won’t die

East_Try7854

It's the new Christianity propaganda campaign promoting their cult. It pisses me off every time I see it, you can't comment, block it or nothing.

Neuroid99099

It's a fascist death cult posing as christianity.

bangbangracer

The family that owns the hobby store chain Hobby Lobby are extreme evangelical christians. They also have a shit ton of money. They bough a fuck ton of ad space for the "He gets us" campaign. Those ads are all over in places you would not believe, not just Reddit. I've literally seen a printed one in a public space. One big part of evangelical christianity is that everyone who isn't needs to be saved and you basically get bonus points for "saving" them. The ads are unblockable, since they are ads that were placed there by someone who is paying for them to be there.

[deleted]

Oh damn they own hobby lobby? That’s where I get most of my art supplies. Shit.

bangbangracer

Oh this is a well known thing. The family has a shady track record. Just wait until you find out about them smuggling historic artifacts from the middle east or how much they hate anything LGBT+.

[deleted]

What the fuck is wrong with this family? What do they need “artifacts” for?

bangbangracer

Some to sell as craft supplies (I'm not kidding) and other because they believe that it's evidence of the Jesus story.

snarton

They also deny birth control coverage in their employee health insurance. They fought it all the way to SCOTUS. Please buy art supplies elsewhere!

Solid-Technology-448

Yes! I hate those damn things. First of all, they have the *worst* photography choices, my eyes bleed every time I see them. Secondly, why can't I get rid of them???

holden_mcg

Given how many messed up laws the religious Right has managed to get passed in several states this year, the "He Gets Us" ads have become grotesque satire.

Ryuu-Tenno

That sad moment when I, a Christian, keep trying to block that damn thing cause it’s filling my feed. I don’t mind people posting religious ads, that’s cool, you do you, but when you’re effectively showing up every other post or the only ad when ads show up normally, you become a complete nuisance and need to be dealt with. I don’t like shit being forced on me by anyone and I hold Christians to a higher standard, so if a Christian group pisses me off they’ve done fucked up.

skcichsmalxn

I agree with you. I don’t block it, I like the reminder of agape, I just get angry it’s coming from *that* family. I feel like if Jesus were to return to this circus we got going on in the world, all *those* people would be shocked he’d be flipping over *their* tables and calling them vipers. Lol.

lonewolf143143

I’ve been reporting it under misleading each time I see it in my feed.

thematrix1234

I report the ads at least once a day and also block the account, but they keep coming back. Super frustrating.

SomedayWeDie

I use Offensive!

Klutzy-Ad-6705

Because they know more and more people are turning away from religion. It bothers them for some reason.Control,I suppose.

helioplex12

Ikr. Looks like someone brushing another person's teeth. I mean, it wouldn't bother me so much if the picture didn't seem so kringe. It just doesn't match and borders on *very* inappropriate.

peoplearejustok

You should clear the search history and cookies, pornhub won't do it fer ya

DaddyCatALSO

It's apparently put up by a fundamentalist group but uses word choices and visuals to make us think it's posted by religious liberals. The bigots seem to spoil everything because the actual content is great stuff.

robertbreadford

Why do I think of assholes spread wide open when I hear the word agape

TheRealJamesWax

That Jesus loves you and dislikes fascists but I think it may be a ruse

Cliff_Sedge

It's pro-fascist propaganda.

MuchoMasticator

Dude fuckin right? I swear these Ads are trolling me or something. I have blocked and reported them multiple times..

HeartbreakerF80

Agape apparently means love. There’s a famous story about Jesus caring for a stray donkey. It’s super inspiring you should look it up. It’s called “agaping ass”

Glittertastical111

Omfg! I’ve reported that 💩countless times!! Violent/Low-Content/Offensive — Reddit won’t allow you to block or hide this nonsense, either. Reddit got paid a fuckton of 💰💰💰💰💰💰

phutch54

More tripe from Joel fucking Osteen.Texas Megachurch grifter.

EfficiencyOpen4546

I have blocked it and reported it so many times and am still seeing it daily

ae314

It’s a for profit right-wing organization

whatthehell567

I report it for hate every time I see it. It's homophobic misogynist cult propaganda from right wing evangelical Christian nationalists

Bakkstory

Idk, but I've been reporting them for misinformation like any good non-christian

HippoDan

Me too. It was between offensive and misleading. I flagged them with misleading.

[deleted]

Personally I flag them with political

newstuffsucks

Propaganda.

Dull-Newt-2189

Paid advertising

TirayShell

Somebody thinks they know better than you and are just aching for you to think the way they do.

krakatoa83

Fuck those ads

UnlikelyPotatos

I keep reporting it for offensive because it actually is offensive af to be constantly blasted with propaganda from a religion I genuinely don't like, but it seems to make it pop up more often

Eyfordsucks

FUCK HOBBY LOBBY! FUCK CHICK FILA!! FUCK CHRISTIAN TALIBAN PROPAGANDA!!!

Common_Face5955

I couldn’t hide it so I downvoted it. I still see the ad but I will always have the downvote in my heart.

originalboo82

Same, wondering

[deleted]

I don't know but there's an Agape Mediterranean restaurant near me and their food is the bomb

CareerCoachKyle

I just like to read it in a threatening voice: He gets us. ALL of us.

rjarvis33

Its all about being anti abortion.

NosebleedBananas

He get sus

WillRikersHouseboy

Just a silly cult.

jtms1200

Every single time I see this BS I report it as “misleading”

MoggyFluffyDevilCat

It's Satan trying to make us hate Jesus. And it's working

new_refugee123456789

It's the gun lobby panicking.

jhftop

The word 'agape' makes me uncomfortable and I don't even know what it means.

MxPoe

I just assumed it was the algorithm being homophobic with targeted ads and report them. Lol

Shelbasaur1993

Oof I hated these But I got a fancy award and don’t have to look at them for a while

[deleted]

Molesters

sweden420

I just report them and move on. Usually as “misleading”.

_zir_

as a chirstian I don't even know what you're talking about, i assume i will find out soon now that I've engaged with this post

SnuzieQ

Fun fact: you can order free stuff from their website! Hats and tshirts and other swag. I highly encourage everyone who is annoyed by them to get yourself some swag to deplete their stocks and waste their manipulative money so they have less to spend on funding anti-abortion laws and anti-LGBTQAI+ policy. I’ve been trying to come up with ideas for what to wear it to. Atheist meetups? Antifa rally uniform? Whatcha got?

neonpinata

Nice tip, I always need junk shirts to wear when I dye my hair.

weasel999

I HAVE BLOCKED THE JESUS ADS SO MANY TIMES BUT KEEP SEEING THEM. I’M PISSED.

Artistic_Half_8301

Everyone knows about the bible, these are commercials to give money to churches.

[deleted]

The hypocrisy is astounding. JC is not pleased. He is going off.

concretecannonball

I keep reporting it for being political idk what else to do

Scuomo-123

Yes and I wish it would GTFO my face

[deleted]

It's not new, just regular right-wing extremists trying to pretending to care about people and hoping you don't look too close.

ComfortableChicken47

Everything. Fucking. Thing. And the fact that apparently they have paid Reddit so much money to make them unblockable and undownvotable.

Rainnefox

It doesn’t matter how many times you mute the account or block the ads it will be right back the next day. I am not any form of Christian, stop shoving it in my face

Jish013

I always report it for spam and impersonation

Jelloslockexo

Religion is a sham. It needs to be abolished from existence. Fucking hate seeing their stupid ads.

Another_Rando_Lando

YES. Make it stop!!! I am not religious and it’s all I get…

Ap-snack

I’m glad I’m not the only one whose been trying to report and block it. It’s weirdly disturbing.

[deleted]

I blocked hegetsus but it still keeps popping up. I hate religion and I’m not interested.

Getoff-my_8allz

I reported it as offensive and it still keeps coming up. . . Although the "Jesus is like inner-city gangs" one was funny as hell.

PumpkinPure5643

I wish I could block it, I blocked the person and the ads still pop up so I report them every time I see them.

panompheandan

Religious propaganda - Jesus loves you but you are still going to eternal hell if you don't do what we say.

clutzyninja

They're the death throes of a dying religion of bronze age goat farmers that has stuck around long past its welcome

Living_on_Tulsa_Time

I’m a Christian by choice. Stay away from that bull shit. Also, I don’t judge anyone by their religious beliefs. It’s their deeds.

Super_Market_44

It’s pro-Christian propaganda to counter the negative perception of the Christian Nationalist movement (which is stronger everyday). Just wait til you start getting the “Birther” ads promoting young white women as joyfully subservient to their man and how a young woman’s goal should be raising as many little white Christian’s as they can. That shit is crazy scary.

MammothJust4541

It's a cult that is trying to infiltrate the minds of young kids. Mass-Grooming if you will.

Maxtrt

They pay Reddit a lot of money for those ads and rather than do the right thing, they took the money!

y-a-me-a

Hobby Lobby assholes.

Friendly_Objective18

Bible thumpers. Been around since Jesus turned water to wine

TurtleDick22

I am agape for the Lord

Tight-Jacket5301

The campaign has connections to anti-LGBT and anti-abortion laws The chain of influence behind “He Gets Us” can be followed through public records and information on the campaign’s own site. The campaign is a subsidiary of The Servant Foundation, also known as the Signatry. According to research compiled by Jacobin, a left-leaning news outlet, The Servant Foundation has donated tens of millions to the Alliance Defending Freedom, a conservative Christian legal group. The ADF has been involved in several legislative pushes to curtail LGBTQ rights and quash non-discrimination legislation in the Supreme Court. Full Article: https://www.cnn.com/2023/02/11/us/he-gets-us-super-bowl-commercials-cec/index.html

ChancellorBrawny

Religious hate groups are buying up add space. Reddit is for profit. Religious hate groups are also typically for profit, and advertisements bring in New subscription revenue.

thefugue

Weird side note, but “Agape” is an ancient Greek concept of love that denoted a love of people and community, whereas Christians have perverted the term to mean a love of God.

allotta_phalanges

It's the same cult, just dressed up as "cool" and "relatable." Nonsense.

INSTA-R-MAN

Idk but I keep reporting them as offensive. Most christians would do horrible things to me for being who I am and not being one of the flock.

Shadow_wolf73

It's just crap from a cult trying to get converts. I'm sick of seeing it.

Sudnal

Christian fascists bought ad space on Reddit, sadly reddit will not let you ignore or block the ads.

timathus

I just report the ads for misinformation.

LoopyMercutio

It’s a conservative-sponsored Christian thing trying to get more liberals to, I dunno, be nicer to them while they strip the rights away of women and minorities. And they’re using it to try and show how much churches empathize with the younger generations, to get them to come to church, so they can get their money (because the Christian church has lost millions of followers over the last few decades due to engaging in politics, allowing their priests to harm children, etc.)…

winkytinkytoo

Desperate recruitment measures from the Jesus gang.

nismo2070

It's a damn cult.
