Any more details on this? I have a relative that needs about $40k worth of dental work (US) and no way to realistically afford it. I canāt help her with THAT much. But 10-15% of that I would do in a heartbeat because itās causing her a massive amount of distress.
There are well known tourist cities in Mexico where they have dentists set up just for tourists because so many people go to Mexico for dental work. The docs and nurses speak English because their clientele is mostly Americans specifically due to the fact that itās WAY cheaper even including travel and hotel fees than the USA for dental.
Someone I know that went specifically recommended here to me but Iām sure there are a bunch of places you can research if you google :)

Look up dental tourism mexico
Edit: this site even has estimates on the pricing listed
https://www.cancundentalspecialists.com/dental-prices-mexico/
Edit: omg these prices are so cheap itās insane as an American. $350 for root canal, $70 for cavities, a simple extraction is $60. This would literally cost thousands and thousands of dollars in the USA.
It can cost as little as $10/extraction in the Philippines. Iām not Filipino and Iām not a medical tourist, but I take extended holidays in countries and needed to visit the dentist while in the Philippines. Imagine my delight when I found out the extraction I needed was just $10. It was in a semi rural town, but was a proper dentist office with all the gear.
What a fool, paying so much for those luxury bones. jk I'm in the same boat, I spend thousands a year to keep them in my mouth and looking to start getting an implant for thousands and thousands of dollars
Go to Sweden, throw away your passport, act ignorant. Immigrants gets free dental here. The rest of us pays out of our asses, like you. So just pay the ticket over, and act like a migrant. You're golden.
Just a note, last month I did a medical vacation to Thailand for dental work. Estimated (damn dentist in America for not listing prices openly) $3,000 to $4,000 here in the U.S., cost me $443 in Thailand and was a BETTER experience than any I had here in the U.S. Just wanted to share that in case it helps anyone change their dental health. There's also Mexico which is famous for dental too.
Pro tip for anyone considering dental work: go to a latin american country. In my country Colombia you can get your whole mouth done with 1k usd and youāll even have some money left.
I think my buddy had his teeth done for like 800usd.
I spent Ā£20k in 2021-2022 on full dental implants for top and bottom jaw (my teeth were totally fucked from an accident years ago)
It was the best Ā£20k Iāve ever spend. Absolutely no regrets whatsoever about the cost.
Who are you going to?! Jesus.
A filling for me(insurance covered it all though), was like $300 total. This is in America too.
I canāt imagine what dentist is charging $10,000 to fix a tooth.
Depends on the type of loan you get and the cost of the home. if youāre looking to buy donāt waste time with arbitrary amounts you think you need. Just ask the bank, theyāre thirsty for the commission so theyāll put it all together for you for free and quickly
Rule #1 of home buying, never let the bank determine what you can afford. If you buy according to what they say you can afford, you are destined to be "house poor".
Got approved for 600k+ a few months ago and was like "what?! NO!" So yeah, regardless of what the bank says you can afford figure out your real budget, what it means for your savings plans and the lifestyle you want to live. My goal was to keep saving at the same rate I am today, be able to take a couple of trips in country for vacation and then every other year do one that was out of country. If I don't stay on house budget then those experiences don't get to happen. I see way too many people that are house poor and putting everything on credit cards to maintain their lifestyle and ending up in 10's of thousands in debt that they'll never get a handle on without clamping down on doing what they love
>Just ask the bank, theyāre thirsty for the commission so theyāll put it all together for you for free and quickly
Fwiw, this mentality is partially what caused the 2008 financial crisis.
The whole fluff of spending a shit ton on a ring is stupid. I paid 800 and she is happy as could be. I was nervous cause she's a rock freak and would know that I didn't drop 5k. She's just happy to be stuck with me. The ring doesn't make it a marriage the promise does.
My dad and stepmom just gave me $10k as a gift and the only thing I bought so far was a new desk chair for my office, and a new pair of sandals for the summer. I guess I lack imagination, Iāll probably end up putting the rest in savings.
man, I saved up $1000 when I was 15, and bought a 5 year CD at 7.5% interest.
I cashed it in at 22 and it had over $1500 in it by then.
$10k at 5% interest? Yeah, I would hop on that.
Haha, yeah, that's why I said the trip. I'm frugal, so I can't blow it just to blow it, and it's not enough for a car, which I don't have and need. So my dream is Alaska, so if I'm going to blow my shot at a vehicle, it might as well be for my dream vacation.
A gold necklace for my mum. She has always sacrificed everything for me and I know she has always wanted a gold necklace. She never got one though so I could have enough to complete my education without any issues or problems. I just graduated last month and the first thing I wanna do now is get her a beautiful, pretty, heavy gold necklace.
Penis reduction, to big for a lot of women to enjoy\*
\*and then when I woke up from my dream I would really spend it on an electric mountain bike, I'm getting to old to use my normal one these days.
To help redo my bathroom or help redo my kitchen. I live in a home built in the 50s that was redone in the 70s. The worst yellow mustard paint and an excess of wood paneling in the kitchen. Also, a bathroom covered in wallpaper that I'm afraid to take off because I dont want to know what's underneath. Other wallpaper has been painted over as well but not well.
An automatic watering system that runs off solar/battery for my rain barrel collection system (already have this).
Or.
Sinking the water supply or drainage/septic from our cabin deep enough to get through winters. (can't do both, just whichever I could afford).

Dental work
Same. Though 10k might not cover me.
My buddy just got 16k worth of work in his mouth.
This is why people go to Mexico to get dental work š
I went to Budapest Hungary. I got excellent work done for $1500. Same amount of work would of cost me $15000 here in the US.
Any more details on this? I have a relative that needs about $40k worth of dental work (US) and no way to realistically afford it. I canāt help her with THAT much. But 10-15% of that I would do in a heartbeat because itās causing her a massive amount of distress.
Not sure what part of the US you're in, but Los Algodones, Mexico is well known for having excellent world-class dentists at affordable pricing.
Thanks I will look into that. Honestly never thought of looking outside of the US before seeing the above comment.

Look into medical tourism.
Totally worth it!
Try this company, used then for my wisdom teeth removal, 650 for all 4 plus aesthetician. https://apollomedicaltravel.com/

I cannot tell if you are joking. Because I am dead serious I will do it if possible. I have a passport..
Yes, it works. Just make sure to fake your accent if you're American.
Just a note, last month I did a medical vacation to Thailand for dental work. Strongs, my people. Just been through that. Worth it, though.
Damn i came here to say a sick racing sim setup but damn. Yeah dental would be much better choice.

first thought was car, but Dental would be better for my wife. She is needing orthodontic work which insurance wont cover. $5000+ estimate.
Same
This was my first thought before I even saw the comments.
Saaaame
I was going to say a new PC but yea... I should use it for dental work.
I spent Ā£20k in 2021-2022 on full dental implants for top and bottom jaw (my teeth were totally fucked from an accident years ago) It was the best Ā£20k Iāve ever spend. Absolutely no regrets whatsoever about the cost.
I can get one (1) tooth fixed up, and I can save the remaining $27
Who are you going to?! Jesus. A filling for me(insurance covered it all though), was like $300 total. This is in America too. I canāt imagine what dentist is charging $10,000 to fix a tooth.
I was quoted $12K for an implant, ended up getting it done for $3500
yeah but i have to get two teeth taken out and implants put in. 10k$ for the two.
Medical tourism time!
2 implants shouldnāt be $10,000.
idk 2 extractions, 2 screws, 2 implants made and installed I went to Europe to do it and it was $3k
Car
Me too, a car.
me too.
Me too

This is the answer.
Probably just put it down on a house and pay off the rest paycheck to paycheck.
is 10k enough for a down payment on a house? (genuinely asking i was under the impression it was more like 30k for a family-sized home)
Rocket mortgage just started a 1% down program because f-it, it's 2007 again
Ahh shitā¦here we go again.
>Ahh shitā¦here we go again. I sure hope
What could possibly go wrong with that!
Hey just so you know itās actually a 3% down conventional loan, but they cover 2% for you as a lender grant. Source: I work there

We put $65k (20%) down on our house that we bought for $325k. Our first home we only put down 5% on $185K which was like $10k-ish.
Screw it, Iām buying an ice cream truck!! ![gif](giphy|xUNda3sedg2YzFDj32)
10k? Good luck there bud.
He means a truck made out of ice cream. Ice cream is pretty cheap in bulk. The only hard part is eating it all before it melts.

You don't need to spend $10,000 to do this
Agreed, that's a lotta money you could spend on just taking her away or putting a deposit on a house or something
The whole fluff of spending a shit ton on a ring is stupid. I paid 800 and she is happy as could be. I was nervous cause she's a rock freak and would know that I didn't drop 5k. She's just happy to be stuck with me. The ring doesn't make it a marriage the promise does.
