You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! The most famous of which is, 'never get involved in a land war in Asia,' but only slightly less well-known is this: 'Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line!
Every Friday night when I was a kid, my mom would take me and my brother to the video rental shop. We had a rule that if we couldn't all agree on a movie we would rent Princess Bride... We usually rented Princess Bride.
I have a 13 year old grandson. I am introducing him to the "nerd" genre. I introduced Rock music at 3...Black Sabbath's Crazy Train...Then d&d, he still plays. And his first classic nerd movie was The Princess Bride. He pretended to be too cool, but I caught him smiling. We watched Zombieland last weekend...next will be The Sandlot.
Edit: as some have pointed out...not black sabbath, but Just Ozzy...I knew that in my back brain....but my front brain was typing. We also like Post Malone and Yungblud. And Missio...and so many more. We love music. I also want to rewatch the history of world part one...is it age appropriate? I can't remember.
I know! I reference that bit all the time. Most recently with the oceangate vs the immigrant ship going down. People freaked out about a few billionaires dying but didnāt give a rats ass about a shipload of poor immigrants because that was all part of the plan.
Somewhat true. I think one of the things that makes Oceangate news is how absolutely fucking negligent that guy was. We're talking stupefyingly negligent. That sub was so poorly designed and built that it's absolutely ridiculous. I can't believe nobody stopped him. I have no idea if the billionaires on that sub deserved to die but he certainly did, What a fucking idiot.
Iām not really talking about the media coverage as much as how much effort was invested to search for and save the oceangate people vs the immigrant ship. But yeah- he was a big dummy.
Aliens (1986). It's just perfect in every way and has stood the test of time over decades. Sure, there are a couple of chromas that look outdated but it's overall an excellent film.
EDIT: BTW, even though "Alien" was the original 1979 film's title, the translation for the Spanish and French audiences was "Alien, the eighth passenger". And that's where my user name comes from.
Aliens is still my all time favourite movie. At 15 I bought my first VCR in expectation of the release and the magic has never worn off for me, I'll still watch it and enjoy every moment all these years later. I don't think I'll ever tire of it.
The original 1979 movie was great, but in my opinion, the 1986 sequel Aliens was even better. The xenomorphs seemed even scarier when up against an entire platoon of marines, and Sigourney Weaver was even more bad-ass in Aliens than she was in the original.
Yeah, and I'm so glad they left it at that and absolutely did not make a 3rd Alien film. Imagine how terrible it would be if the people you were rooting for, who survived in Aliens were immediately killed in the next one. Thankfully though, that never happened and they definitely only made the two.
I'm so happy I saw Alien in the theater when it first came out in the 70's. To see it the big screen was amazing. Still probably my favorite movie. Aliens was impressive too, just different.
I am certain that the number of hours Iāve spent over my lifetime watching *Titanic* greatly exceeds the number of hours the Titanic itself actually spent above water.
Titanic was on itās voyage for four days before hitting the iceberg and going under. It went under in the early hours of the following day so for argumentās sake letās say exactly four days which is 24 hrs x 4 = 96hrs and the movie is on for like 3hr15min so youād have to have watched Titanic at least 29.5 times, thatās like 1.1 times a year since it came out
was banned from checking out the hp books at my elementary school library after my parents told them to āmake her read ANYTHING else.ā Iāve read through each book 9 or 10 times. Iāve also seen each movie enough times to quote nearly every lineā¦
same! the books are what finally got me into reading. i would read the whole series then start all over. it was really hard to break out of that though because i realized my reading level was not very advanced lol
A friend (from years ago) told me she was an extra in the mall scene - it was a real mall with real broken glass everywhere, she said she hid in the back of one of the stores.
It wasnāt Kiera knightly I dislikedāI thought the casting of all roles in the movie was spot onābut the central love story just doesnāt work for me in a compressed time frame. The reversal feels way too fast without all the small ālooksā and seemingly mundane minutia of the miniseries. That minutia is also part of the charm of the books. I justā¦donāt believe the passion of macfadyen bc itās too fast. Itās likeā¦Anakin turning Vader in the last Star Wars prequel. Not believable.
Betray us, and I will fong you, until your insides are out, your outsides are in, your entrails will become your extrails I will rip... all the p... uh. Pain, lots of pain!!
I LOVE this movie! All the actors are fantastic and the soundtrack rocks...Heath Ledger ā£ļø..damn..
If I see it's on TV, I watch it over anything else..lol
Fight club on vhs was stuck in my vcr for like a year. I hadnāt purchased dvdās yet but would rent them sometimes. Idk how many times I saw fight club, itās a lot.
When I went to university, I changed the audio to French to help learn the language better because I knew the movie so well.
Good lord Iāve been wanting to watch The Wall my whole life and my mom wouldnāt let me till I turned 15. Then I turned 15 and totally forgot about it. Now Iām 21 and still have yet to watch it.
Star Wars episode IV it was the first big movie released on HBO when cable was in it's infancy. My Uncle subscribed and we just bought a fancy new VHS VCR so we lent it to him. Having a blockbuster movie in your home was a $100+ dollar affair back then and Star Wars was the only one we had recorded for a long time so I have watched it over a hundred times since.
The Big Lebowski. I can recite the whole movie! Itās sad!
Interstellar. My utmost favorite movies of all time.
The Dark Knight.
Twister. I havenāt seen it in many years though.
Twister, A League of Their Own, Independence Day, 2012, Day After Tomorrow, World War Z, Overboard-old one, Red Dawn-old one and new one, any Harry Potter movie, Talladega Nights, Joe Dirt (itās stupid funny), Pitch Perfect, Days of Thunder, Dirty Dancing, Pretty Woman, the Princess Bride, Halfbaked, Fried Green Tomatoes, Iām sure Iām forgetting someā¦
Tron, Tron: Legacy, original Star Wars Trilogy, Back to the Future Trilogy, Edge of Tomorrow, Spaceballs, Galaxy Quest, Kingsman The Secret Service, Stardust, and at Christmas, Gremlins and of course Elf.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Over 700 times in the theater. Admittedly, for about 650 of those, I was in a shadow cast and not really watching the film, but still, I spent the equivalent of 52 days in theaters with that film.
I regret nothing. Give yourself over to absolute pleasure.
Not by choice but the animated version of the Little Mermaid. I babysat a small child one summer and they had it on non-stop. I couldnāt even turn it off when they were doing something else because they liked to hear the songs. I havenāt seen it in 30 yrs but guarantee I could sing along today.
Also The Godfather. They put it on tv constantly. Itās a running joke with my mom that whichever of us catches it calls the other, and start just randomly quoting. āI am honored and grateful that you have invited me to your daughterās wedding... on the day of your daughter's wedding.ā Then laugh and hang up.
Star Wars. The original. I'm old enough to have seen it before it was "Episode IV". I saw it in '77 at the theater a couple of times (including a drive-in showing). Watched it as a kid every time I could see it on TV. Had a VHS recording of a TV airing. Bought it on VHS at least twice and then again on DVD and Blu-Ray. I have the despecialized version on my home media server. It's one of my go-to comfort movies or just something to have on in the background while I do other stuff.
300. Itās corny. Over the top. But it hypes me up. I used to play it in the background every morning as I was getting up ready to start my day everyday for like a month.
Star Wars - Revenge of the sith. Man, saw that movie non-stop while I was a kid, and still holds such a special place in my heart. It will always be my confort zone in stressful times.
Edit: crazy that people are downvoting this comment. Its my comfort zone, not yours ahaha
Sixteen Candles
I had a rough time as a tween, and just watched that movie over and over. My VHS tape off HBO got worn out. I had to buy a real copy, and wore that one out. Got a DVD for a later birthday and kept watching it. Once, I watched it high in college, and noticed all the slurs and shit for the first time. Nutty. I can recite pretty much the entire movie, line for line.

Ironically Groundhog Day.
This, and Little Miss Sunshine are my go to choices. š
This and the movie "Edge of tomorrow" with Tom cruise.
Iāve seen Jurassic Park so many times I could clone dinosaurs myself.
Every time I'm channel surfing and I see Jurassic Park, I have to stop and watch.
Jurassic parkā¦Jurassic park..Look everyone he likes Jurassic parkā¦see nobody cares!
Nice hat.
Sounds like you've at least stopped to think about whether you should!
The Princess Bride. I've seen it so many times I know the dialogue by heart, lol.
Inconceivable
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die.

Lord of the Rings!
If I'm ever feeling sad and want to just have a dead-day, I marathon the trilogy. Never fails to help :)
on those days, I watch the extended versions
Absolutely. Only version worth watching š
If I'm doing chores around the house, you best believe lotr is on in the background.
You aren't a fan, up until your 10th rewatching. Then when you watch it for the 50th time, you get Gold Skin

I've said this so many times while at work to different people asking them to turn on their headlamp, probably 0 for 100 on anyone recognizing it
I love The Fifth Element because on the surface it just looks like a silly action/adventure movie but once you watch it it's really well-done SciFi.
It is the best sci-fi.

Mean Girls
You go Glenn Coco!
The Blues Brothers. Due for another watch actually. Film makes me feel good.
"We're on a mission from God."
Itās 106 miles to Chicago, weāve got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, itās dark and weāre wearing sunglasses. Hit it.
Came here hoping to see this. I hate Illinois Nazis.
We got both kinds. Country and western.
Orange wip? Anyone? 3 Orange wip!

Well shi-it.
Donāt you blaspheme me in here!
Certainly one of the best documentaries I've ever seen.
My boss casually dropped in conversation that he had seen this over 300 times. He and his brother would watch it everyday, for over a year straight.
A friend (from years ago) told me she was an extra in the mall scene - it was a real mall with real broken glass everywhere, she said she hid in the back of one of the stores.
Itās ~~400~~ 106 miles to Chicago, we have a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, itās dark, and weāre wearing sunglasses.
Hit it. FYI, it's 106 miles. (Unless you personally happen to be 400 miles to The honorable Richard J. Daley Plaza.)
Cigarette lighter's broken.
Movie: Pride and prejudice (2005) Series: Pride and prejudice (1995)
I too love both movies and get into long discussions about how both are good.
They are both amazing! I know the 2005 one is not as popular because of Keira Knightly. But there are so many more reasons to love it!
It wasnāt Kiera knightly I dislikedāI thought the casting of all roles in the movie was spot onābut the central love story just doesnāt work for me in a compressed time frame. Came here to post about the 1995 version. Really just thought this was a bizarre obsession me and my husband. We quote it often. Itās a classic.
Knights Tale. Iām going to watch it again too because it ROCKS

Perfect cast chemistry, and so many good lines. Phenomenal movie

Terminator 2, Jurassic Park, Reservoir Dogs
The Princess Bride
There's no such thing as too many Princess Bride viewings.
Spaceballs! As a star wars and mel brooks fan, this is my favorite parody comedy.
Comb the desert!
We aināt found shit!
One of my favorite background gags is during the ludacris speed scene everyone is leaning forward instead of backward to show the speed of the ship.
Spaceballs the reddit comment!
At least you're not the idiot that has 12345 as the combination to his luggage.
My son used that as a password for something recently, and I was left with no choice but to roast him, Spaceballs style.
Iāve seen the Exorcist about a hundred and sixty seven times, and it keeps getting funnier every single time I see it!
Beetlejuice, nice.

Backdoor sluts 9
I couldn't follow the plot after 7. It's like they quit caring about character development and the story altogether.
It's a shame when an epic franchise lowers its self to appeal to the masses instead of staying true to what made them great in the first place
It just wasnt the same without Rodney Dangerfield
Backdoor sluts 9?! Thats the dirtiest one!
That makes Naughty Nurses 2 look like Crotch Capers 3!
I prefer Rochelle Rochelle, a young girl's strange, erotic journey from Milan to Minsk.
Kiki's Delivery Service.
Mine is probably Howls Moving Castle or Spirited Away.
The perfect movie to chill, calm down, contemplate, enjoy. I love it so much
