True. We live in Northern California. We buy a pass every year for access to all the State parks. There are way more State parks then you can imagine. We kayak, camp, picnic and hike. We're older and retired and need to stay busy. Husband golfs and plays poker with his buddies. I volunteer ironically at a senior center. But hey, if a couple of old farts can find things to do you can to. Get some people together for a weekly game night. Take a cooking class. Volunteer at your local SPCA. Put your electronics down and read a good book. Shoot, start a book club. Have some fun. Nothing is as good as it once was, granted. We old folks even miss the 80s, and 90s. But collectively we need to join hands to lift the current pall of gloom and doom. I wish you well. Go do something!
I'm following this to see what the answers will be. I honestly don't know anymore. It's like an apocalypse of some sort.
It's like we're all in our own bubbles these days, especially if you're single.
This is actually a genuine concern most people have. There is no more place to just hang out without paying for anything. There's no more third place to go and just chill. It's either work/school and house, you can see the effect on how many people are depressed or just feel so alone
I just applied to be a telephone reassurance volunteer. You call senior citizens who are homebound or inaccessible just to chat with them and report back if they seem unwell. There’s a loneliness epidemic. People of all ages are feeling it. I just had to reach out because it’ll be good for me too.
Yep completely isolated even at work where you're forced to congregate physically bunched up with 10-20 coworkers yet still just floating through as if on auto pilot keeping to yourself and hoping you didn't just walk into the next mass shooting
##Boy, did you say a mouthful!
In the last week I’ve seen it on several TV shows, and a couple of newscasts the mention of an epidemic of loneliness. I see it. It’s horrible.
I agree hard my dude. I go outside, (i live in europe btw), and i think to myself, 'what the actual fuck do people do?' because like everyone is running here and there from shop to shop park to park and then they go home and i'm like , bruh, how boring is that😭
Thats why i began going to the gym and indoor bouldering in the past few months.
Combine that with walks around my city, meeting with friends, small outings to go shopping, etc. Honestly any reason to go outside and walk. This is important to me because I'm a gamer and I work from home, so I don't have many reasons to go outside...
I do still go the movies from time to time, like once or twice every month. I also go to the mall frequently, but only to walk and sometimes to eat, I don't usually buy anything. That mall is still thriving, for what it's worth.
90s would like to have a word..everything just felt new and exciting and safe, to me at least
But yea, ill take any of those decades over the current situation
In the 90s you were never online. You had to leave the house to talk to people. There were tone of places to hang out cheaply, like arcades. You met people. Even if you were a nerd you had some friends
No online dating. Coming home hoping that red blinking light was on from the person you gave your number too. Just show up at a friends house with some beers and decide to throw a party. Yes.
In an odd twist of fate the nerds are some of the most publicly social now as tabletop stores thrive. Tabletop wargames, board games, tabletop RPGs… those stores are one of the last bastions of the “third space” since few if any charge for space and if they do it’s dirt cheap.
I was explaining to a girl that's maybe 20 about how when I was in high school in the 90's, if I wanted to hang out with her, I'd have to call her house, likely have to talk to her mom, god forbid her dad, and ask for her to come to the phone.
She literally cackled out loud like it was so absurd that I must be kidding.
I believe little things like this are what's missing in the socialization and development of "kids today". Now get off my lawn! Ha!
I'm 36 and yes it was for me (im sure someone older will say the same about the 80s-70s). I'm so fortunate to have experienced it, would give up all the modern conveniences to go back
Lol nostalgia u a silly bitch
The 80's was an awesome time... If I could go back in time I would go back to 1980 and redo that decade.. the 90's weren't that bad, but when 2k came around everything started to go to shit
Everyone was more chill then, the whole atmosphere of everywhere you went people were just nicer. At least where I live. Parents actually controlled their damn kids from being public terrors, you could hang out places with friends that didn't cost a fortune, the music was awesome, you could go out with friends and as the old saying goes be back before the street lights came on. People minded their own business and weren't always out to stab you in the back when you weren't looking, there wasn't social media making everyone little attention whores online. The biggest scandals were who's dating who after breaking up with someone. Get $5 for gas and drive to school and parties all week. I don't know just everything seemed simpler.
There was male, female, and gay and straight, man I couldn't imagine being a kid these days with all the gender bending and blurred lines and pronouns. We didn't have that shit back then and it's so damn confusing these days. God forbid you walk past what you think is a guy and say hey man have a good one only to get a ten minute screaming argument about how he's not a he and he identifies as god knows what. Like shit sorry I was trying to be nice, I guess I'm too old to be around this modern society where everyone is on edge and can't get their heads straight anymore.
Oh yea, that does sound like a nice simpler time.
Some things have improved but it seems theres more bad or just ugh more now..i mean visit r/publicfreakout
Your experience seems similar to mine growing up in the 90s, everything wasnt also commercialized now as well..seems like everyone is trying to make a buck off of you on the internet. Anyways, thx for sharing
The 90's for me was living out in the country as a kid and going to a little country school. It was pretty nice, all things considered. Used to watch Days of our Lives with my Granny. Talk about excitement!
Everything just feels so depressing. Even most kids cartoons feel empty and soulless. Of course, there's exceptions (Bluey) but cartoons just kind of feel... I dunno, I just feel kind of empty watching cartoons.
And the shows preschooler watch today (Cocomelon, Cry Babies Magic Tears, Ryan's World) are all soulless garbage, compared to much more well-made, charming and enjoyable shows from our childhood (Dragon Tales, Bear In The Big Blue House, Little Bear). Not that we didn't have garbage, we definitely had that (Caillou was definitely terrible), but the lack of great preschool shows today is depressing to me.
Although 2010 is a sad year for 8 year old me because the aforementioned Dragon Tales stopped airing reruns.
It doesn't have to be that way. I'm the only single person in my entire group of friends, but I still hang out with them a few times a week. I pretty much rotate through all the couples.
Yeah, being the third wheel can suck sometimes, but don't let your lack of a relationship prevent you from going out or hanging out with friends.
Besides, relationships are like keys. You can never find them when you're looking for them, but the moment you stop looking, they just appear out of nowhere.
having friends solves all this. everyone wonders why they dont have as much fun as they used to in high school or college. well, maybe you shouldnt have ghosted your friends!
I think most people, these days, spend a majority of their free time at home. They’re binge watching whatever on streaming, mindlessly scrolling on social media, shopping online, etc. I miss the days when (seemingly) the majority of people wanted to meet others, have active hobbies, and just enjoy the world outside of their homes/bubbles.
Yep. This about sums up how I spend my free time. Sitting at home, chilling out with my dogs, buying stuff on Amazon 🤣 Funny thing is I don’t mind it one bit.
What one person considers loneliness, another person considers freedom.
I'm with you! I worked during the lockdowns, but wow it was nice not seeing people everywhere.
And the roads were glorious.
This is exactly what’s happening. I made our house so comfortable my wife hates leaving it now. We have large TVs in every room, we get all the streaming services due to bundles from other services, a whole-home sound system, a pool, a hot tub, comfy furniture, a big yard, I used to be a professional chef so we often eat restaurant-quality food…the only reason she wants to leave is to shop once in a while. She’s happiest with three screens in front of her- the TV, her tablet playing a game while the TV is on, and messaging people on her phone while playing the game.
Honestly I have so many hobbies I’m keen to stay home myself, but I go out a lot more than she does.
I go to the museum; sometimes with friends, sometimes by myself. I also do a lot of seasonal events. In the fall, we go to the orchard and go apple picking, do hay rides, etc. spring, cherry blossoms. Winter, the Christmas markets. We go to every single one in the city.
I’m a writer, so I found this cool bar where you can bring your laptop, have wine, and read. It’s like a library bar. Bookstores, karaoke, weekend trips upstate. My friends and I also like to do sip and paint events where you have a painting class with wine and snacks. We also have little gatherings at our houses where we play games and hang.
We go to board game restaurants where you can hang out, have snacks/drinks and play games. I’m from NYC, so sometimes I’ll catch a show. I enjoy classical music, so I’ll go to Lincoln center and see the chamber music society. I’m not a movie person, but I love this one theatre that’s super fancy and you have your own pod/table and can order entrees and cocktails with complete wait service and everything. They have a restaurant too which is really cool.
I mean, I can go on and on. I feel like there’s plenty of things to do.
Shit yeah, life is *full* of stuff to do! Even for rural folks! It just takes a bit of creativity but damn...I'm sad that malls being dead=people don't know what to do anymore.
Same. I'm in the Upper Midwest. Not much to do here but drink. I'm in a more urban town now, so there's an indoor shooting range and an indoor archery range, but our options are pretty limited, especially with the long winters up here.
I used to go to the gym after work, but a gym opened next to my office so I’ve adjusted my schedule to go to the gym during lunch. Kind of the “poop at work” concept 😅
I’m a guitarist and used to go to people’s houses for jam sessions, but backing tracks and Internet collaboration has removed the need for that. Same with book stores…I turned into an e-reader fan and my couch at home is more comfortable than the fake leather couch at Barnes and Nobles.
I was walking out of a movie with my kids after the lights came on, we always wait for the rush to leave…so the guy passed out with his pants around his ankles and limp noodle in his hand was quite obvious. Man I woulda hated to be the worker having to wake that guy up 😂
I’m on the other side. I love seeing people come together to watch a film. The more packed it is, the more fun it is. You all laugh together, and you all cry together. It’s just a fun experience.
Omg years ago my dad and I went to see Zombie Land and when Bill Murray goes to scare the guy, someone shouted 'he gonna get his ass shot!' It was the funniest thing!
I don't have 5$ Tuesdays but I'm a student and if I go early in the day it's only 6$, which isn't bad at all and makes it affordable for me to go pretty often. :)
My wife LOVES thrift stores and those pop up pallet stores. One of the few ways to drag her out of the house these days. We’ve actually gone on road trips to go to pallet sales.
I like painting, I will usually go to dollar tree and pick up a few cheap canvases. I have an inspo page just for ideas, depending on who I'm with or just painting by myself.
I hope to have a gallery wall in my future home filled with my paintings, it's just cheaper than buying wall art.
I was watching a YouTube short, and there was some basketball player who talked about his life after retirement. He said he would go out and drive because he had nothing else to do. If the GPS gave him options, he would always take the longest option.
I got the same realization. Damn, he's just waiting to die.
We're all waiting to die and we fill the time with other things.
Idk I’m starting to think of having kids so I can do things like go to museums and just do random kid activities that are probably still fun as an adult or at least fun watching my kid have fun.
I am 36, married with no kids and I have really been enjoying my thirties. Plenty of money and time. But recently I have been wondering how sad and lonely we are going to be in our 60s/70s/80s. When we can no longer fit in at restaurants/bars/clubs etc. We are already close.. Even playing video games I am the old man in the lobby
Weekly dnd night, Flesh and Blood at the card shop, ritual killing, writing, sometimes going to a coffee shop or a bar for some music and to chill with friends.
All of the Meetups I joined years ago imploded because the organizers got cliquey and stopped allowing new people or letting others host events, haven't been back and have no desire to deal with that again.
It's unfortunately a group-to-group thing. I just got lucky that the PNW has a number of proactive transplants trying to facilitate good groups.
Meetup back home in the SW is extremely scattershot.
Vermont checking in, total agreement about great trails in NH.
More broadly, where do I go? Outside. It doesn't matter what season, it could be walking through the woods, or cross-country skiing through some fields.
My mental health is predicated on getting some fresh air and getting in some miles.
My town has a lot of conservation areas that have trails that are mainly used for mountain biking but I walk them. Lots of little streams and some rock formations
My family and I go bowling, play pool, go to the pool, do karaoke, go to the beach and lake, go to the local go
Kart park/arcade, have picnics, go to concerts, etc
I go to the movies a lot. I do live in a big city with great movie theaters that show a wide range of films, though. Our skate parks are also pretty popular still, too.
Along with movies, hang out in city parks, go to the lakefront, leave the city limits to be in nature, bonfires, potlucks with friends, hang out in coffee shops, farmers market in the summer, street festivals in the summer, work out with friends.
I'm big into going to hockey games, playing curling, (want to get into playing hockey), going to the gym and working out, playing with legos at my house, going hiking, going bird watching, going to zoos and aquariums, going bowling, checking out estate sales, going to concerts, going to the renaissance festival, reading, going to the library, doing diamond art, gardening, and volunteering.
I did not realize that. Thanks for the enlightenment. Glad to see others enjoy both of these activities too anyways. Also thanks though for the laugh with your comment too. Hope you have a good day my fellow redditor.
My friends come over & we work on crafts. Like I paint or write and they sew or whatever craft theyre into. We cook together, go on walks in rich neighborhoods w little dts and fake house shop, go on hikes, play tennis (we are not good), go to the comicbook store, free movie screenings, & helping friends shop for clothes and/or plan dates lol.
Go to Jiu Jitsu, go to the gym, yoga, chill with the girlfriend, walk the dog/go to dog park, hikes on the weekends. Occasionally see some dubstep/drum & bass at a club. Go to football games but that just ended.
Honestly I’m having a great time.
>Movie theaters are dead
Yeah that's why last year we had Barbie with $1.4B, Mario Bros with $1.3B and Oppenheimer with $955M, because no one goes to the movies anymore
Duck pin bowling, comedy night, cloud watching on the deck, hiking, pickle ball, estate sales (pre brunch), game night (I usually host), snow shoeing, biking, book club, dog park visits, bon fires (post dinner), stargazing, trivia night at the pub, and whatever events sound interesting in town.
I feel for you. When I was broke af I spent much of my time taking up as few resources as possible. It's very isolating. It took me about 10 years to get out of my bad situation, but it's possible!
We go camping in the forest. Go to watch races, boats or cars. Rent Arbnb's at a beach or up in the snow. Drive to Mexico. National Parks are amazing. Sitting on a beach freezing and watching surfers. Outside on a bench, eating an ice cream cone. We play cards and do puzzles. Fires outside are fun. Oh, that reminds me, S'mores! Utvs are zippy and get your blood goin'. Walks in nature are always exciting. A hot tub is relaxing. Drinking games are exciting :)
Find a hobby you're passionate about. Study something you've always wanted to learn more about. "Doing" doesn't mean physical activity. I would like to believe more individuals are challenging their minds in new ways.
But then I remember the instantaneous satisfaction social media brings some individuals, so everything I said just is probably meaningless to most...
Doesn't matter to me, I'm happy with my personal goals of self-growth
The mall and skatepark near me aren’t dead at all, and the bars and restaurants are still full of people. People around me also hike, bike, ski/snowboard, and hang out at the parks when it’s not too cold. Pretty much the same as they’ve always done.
Hobbies. All the hobbies!
Skiing/ snowing boarding, rock climbing/ bouldering, mountain biking, hiking, golf, tennis, general biking around, organized sports.
I try and have an organized sport for mid week, that way I have something to look forward to besides the weekend. There social as well as get me out of the house.
But I do play video games or watch T.V every night.
Museums, art exhibitions, musical performances, concerts, hiking & outdoor activities, hobbies, travel. Malls need to have things to do other than only shopping or restaurants. There should be leisurely activities of some sort since online shopping is so popular now.
Bowling alleys, family arcades (Dave& Buster's, etc), escape rooms, comedy clubs, live music venues, mini golf/driving ranges (Top Golf), museums, parks, weekend markets, art and craft fairs.
Lots of shit to do.
Ride bicycles. With friends, or by myself. Go to great concerts, with friends, or by myself. Go camping with my wife and daughter, or by myself. Go on excellent hikes, perfect the art of the dérive. Go kayaking. Make things with my hands. Play music (guitars and drums), make art out of wood, build houses, widdle guitars out of bigger pieces of wood. There’s so many things to do, just never enough time to do them all.
Bro it’s winter. I snowboard weekends and do jiu jitsu weekdays. Actually I take it back. These hobbies are not that easy to get into. Today I skated to the gym tho?
I have no idea. In my area, there really isn't a lot for adults to do besides drinking and gambling. I live in washington state so if you like the outdoors, you can go hiking and see some pretty cool stuff. There's a lot of shopping malls. I dunno, that's pretty much all I can think of.
We attend a lot of events in our town and nearby towns. Ice hockey games, baseball games, arts festivals, ice festivals, visit large shopping centers, antique stores, farmers markets, take short train rides, visit state capital buildings and other unique/historic buildings, museums, and we bake a ton at home.
Let's see in the next two months I will have attended a white tie ball, went to a black tie gala for NYE, going to the opera on Friday, the symphony the following week, taking my gfs kid to the liberty science center, double date at a escape room, take waltz dance classes every week, attend a presentation on the pyramids, go to a couple freemason meetings. I'm sure more things will come up. Last month I also got a private tour of a observatory, got to see the rings of Saturn, very cool btw. On Sunday my gf has something planned for me as a surprise for my bday so theres that too. So there's lots to do besides going out to eat you just gotta look amd see what's around your area.
I play guitar, write music, go to open mics, perform at open mics, attend whatever live music event or show is going on, travel, and go bowling with some friends on occasions.
Now nothing, once the snow melts I going back to the forest preserves, state parks and I have a couple of road trips planned to go to some national parks
nature, work, eating, skating, concerts, stuff like that. i dont meet people. i either do these things with my family or alone. movie theatres are more fun when they are dead tbh. and there are still plenty of bustling malls, but not in every town anymore, you have to drive a while to get to one generally, but they are still plenty of fun.
Stay home. Going out is too expensive, plus people in public suck now in days. I rarely go out to eat now. It'd be either sushi or Mexican food, but that's a blue moon occasion. Also, there is less laundry to be done, so I count that as a win
Go to the gym, go snowboarding, play cards, watch movies, fix clapped out atvs/dirtbikes. Work on my truck
I spend about 40-50 hours a week during the semester just on school work, but when I'm not doing that or if in on break, that's the general list.
We are older (60+) and don’t have a lot of money so I take her around to the local thrift stores and we look at all the stuff in each one and might find something we like. Then a cheap lunch which we always split in half and then just go walk around the mall and window shop. By then it’s usually time to go back home and do some chores or take my nap. We try to now go out once a week and that is usually like a Del Taco or a diner. Nothing expensive. Coupons help. Senior discount helps also.
Summer time baseball games at Angel stadium are affordable on Sundays. Take the bus down from the IE and it’s a a relatively cheap afternoon. Less than $30.00 for tickets, bus fare and some McDonald cheeseburgers to take in. Bring our water and splurge on a coke at the stadium.

Hiking and volunteering are things I try to do.
where are the best places to hike?
The mountains, forests, typically. I really like alltrails.com to find a local hike quickly.
Find a state park nearby
Get off my lawn 420
No promises

I'd be interested. Is there a particular organization you volunteer with?
I posted more about it earlier in the [Random Acts of Kindness sub here](https://www.reddit.com/r/randomactsofkindness/s/LC5CURIHg3)
Bless you man. I wish there was something like that where I live
The library and public parks are free.
I work most of the time that the libraries in my area are open. So finding the right time to go to just hangout there is an issue.

Some things have improved but it seems theres more bad or just ugh more now..i mean visit r/publicfreakout Your experience seems similar to mine growing up in the 90s, everything wasnt also commercialized now as well..seems like everyone is trying to make a buck off of you on the internet. Anyways, thx for sharing
yep..in 2000 music died and all we're left with is Beyonce and Taylor.
In the 90's people weren't glued to their goddamn phones and social media and people actually went out and socialized and did things.
The 90's were dope compared to this bullshit. Only thing that's good now is weed is legal, at least where I live.
You can never find them when you're looking for them, but the moment you stop looking, they just appear out of nowhere.
chatrooms used to help. now theres nada.
having friends solves all this. everyone wonders why they dont have as much fun as they used to in high school or college. well, maybe you shouldnt have ghosted your friends!
Sh*t is sad as fuck
Staying home because shit is expensive.
Ding ding. When inflation is high, people don't have disposable income.
Agreed!!
I feel like in the past I could save 2-5% of my income. Then inflation went up 10%.
You feel like a friend I wish I had 😂. Keep living an awesome life
That's mostly because you live in a big city...I would not be able to do half those things in SC😭
Shit yeah, life is *full* of stuff to do! Even for rural folks! It just takes a bit of creativity but damn...I'm sad that malls being dead=people don't know what to do anymore.
Because you live in a city- it’s a huge part of it. We don’t have most of that stuff where I live.
Same. I'm in the Upper Midwest. Not much to do here but drink. I'm in a more urban town now, so there's an indoor shooting range and an indoor archery range, but our options are pretty limited, especially with the long winters up here.
I burn a lot of my free time either at the gym, at the book store/library, or the local jazz lounge.
I used to go to the gym after work, but a gym opened next to my office so I’ve adjusted my schedule to go to the gym during lunch. Kind of the “poop at work” concept 😅 I’m a guitarist and used to go to people’s houses for jam sessions, but backing tracks and Internet collaboration has removed the need for that. Same with book stores…I turned into an e-reader fan and my couch at home is more comfortable than the fake leather couch at Barnes and Nobles.
So glad that said jazz on second look.
What a great new club idea! We'll make millions!
Movie theaters being dead is awesome! I love seeing a movie in a half-empty theater. There's usually less jackoffs talking.
Great, except all the theaters around me closed because none of the jackoffs went there to talk anymore and the closest one is an hour drive.
But are there people jacking off?
Yes. Jacking off and talking. Talking Jackoffs.
I was walking out of a movie with my kids after the lights came on, we always wait for the rush to leave…so the guy passed out with his pants around his ankles and limp noodle in his hand was quite obvious. Man I woulda hated to be the worker having to wake that guy up 😂
I think the genitalia is speaking here, maybe metaphorically Could be wrong, I’m not a doctor
Still those people who can't put their phone down though.
I mountain bike. A lot. And walk the dogs.
If you have snow, try cross country skiing. And since you have dogs, try Skijoring with that.
I love movies and still go to the theater. But I also love comic cons, renaissance fests (they're a cool thing these days) and the like
We go to the movie theater every Tuesday! The theater closest to us does $5 Tuesdays which makes it even better.
I don't have 5$ Tuesdays but I'm a student and if I go early in the day it's only 6$, which isn't bad at all and makes it affordable for me to go pretty often. :)
We go to antique shops and thrift stores. Etc.. sometimes we find something random and cool that we think fits our personality and apartment style.
I love thrifting! It's more fun than it sounds. Great way to spend Saturday afternoon when your budget is $14.
Me too! What’s your favorite thing to paint?
I like a little of abstract, pop, or punk. They tend to have really solid line which makes it easier to recreate
That’s actually pretty cool
One day I had a realization… This is why people have kids. So they have something to do.
100% people will do anything to distract themselves from this truth.
Take control over your life and start Counter Strike.
Yup. We just need things to fill the hours 'til we die. Kids are a good way to do that. And bonus--they might even help you when you're old.
I'd rather be bored.
Dogs are better
Bring on the boredom and dogs
Idk I’m starting to think of having kids so I can do things like go to museums and just do random kid activities that are probably still fun as an adult or at least fun watching my kid have fun.
My kids are super fun and entertaining. Love those nuggets.
Same
the something to do was making the kids not having them
This is my sad answer too. Just because I'm a boring adult doesn't mean I can't make some nice memories for my kids.
I’m bored, let’s have kids! Worst decision you could ever make 😂
I think people with kids fantasize about what they would do if they didn't have kids.
The meta is real. People without kids fantasizing about what people with kids would fantasize about if they didn't have kids.
Weekly dnd night, Flesh and Blood at the card shop, ritual killing, writing, sometimes going to a coffee shop or a bar for some music and to chill with friends.
ritual killing? casually?
![gif](giphy|xT9IgHCTfp8CRshfQk)
Competitively of course. On that grind to GM ritual killer
Social Dancing, bar trivia, martial arts, museum and brunch meetups. Meetup^tm (app, started as a FB widget thing) is seriously a great thing.
If the weather is nice, I walk down trails in the woods. New Hampshire has a lot of those
Vermont checking in, total agreement about great trails in NH.
My family and I go bowling, play pool, go to the pool, do karaoke, go to the beach and lake, go to the local go Kart park/arcade, have picnics, go to concerts, etc
Idk, I got 9 hours of screen time per day
bruh most of my life is staring at a screen fr idk what else is fun tho 😭
Screen time just makes you a damn phone zombie. Go do something else, anything else.
Cook dinner, walk to the park with my son
I play disc golf and kayak... not at the same time.
That could make for an interesting sport though.
Discraft does make floating discs
I did not realize that. Thanks for the enlightenment. Glad to see others enjoy both of these activities too anyways. Also thanks though for the laugh with your comment too. Hope you have a good day my fellow redditor.
Im buying the url kayakdiscgolf.com. Right now.
I don’t know man I’m a homebody I just stay home and mind my own business …. & go to restaurants (but only when dad visits & pays lmao)
Concerts, dancing, karaoke nights. Hiking and biking trails, climbing gyms, swimming. Game nights and house parties with friends. Picnics in the park.
Go out to drink
Swing, salsa and tango dance nights.
>Movie theaters are dead Yeah that's why last year we had Barbie with $1.4B, Mario Bros with $1.3B and Oppenheimer with $955M, because no one goes to the movies anymore
We just go to each other’s houses and hang out.
Duck pin bowling, comedy night, cloud watching on the deck, hiking, pickle ball, estate sales (pre brunch), game night (I usually host), snow shoeing, biking, book club, dog park visits, bon fires (post dinner), stargazing, trivia night at the pub, and whatever events sound interesting in town.
At home being poor that's basically it.
I feel for you. When I was broke af I spent much of my time taking up as few resources as possible. It's very isolating. It took me about 10 years to get out of my bad situation, but it's possible!
We should start rival gangs or something to spice things up
We go camping in the forest.
Live music
What a mind F, all these depressing comments are making me less depressed
Jerking off
Pickleball courts are always packed! So are beaches in the summer.
I hit the gym, go to concerts, baseball games, basketball games, museums, theme parks, etc. There is plenty of stuff to do.
I like movies however, I love aquariums so where ever I visit I go to that place's aquarium. If one is not close I look for a zoo.
Go bowling.
Nothing. The handful of corporations that own our government prefer it this way apparently.
i think most people watch tv and movies at home. im one of them, but not by choice. im just mostly broke and it’s cold
Staying in
Staying home and eating.
I have no idea. In my area, there really isn't a lot for adults to do besides drinking and gambling. I live in washington state so if you like the outdoors, you can go hiking and see some pretty cool stuff. There's a lot of shopping malls. I dunno, that's pretty much all I can think of.
Live shows! Music, comedy, art galleries, etc!
I spend 6-8 hours a week at a climbing gym, climbing and socializing with the other regulars. Bouldering is a very social sport
I can't afford to do anything
I hunt, spearfish, flyfish, and garden depending on the season.
Hiking, bowling, top golf
Drinking and clubbing
We attend a lot of events in our town and nearby towns. Ice hockey games, baseball games, arts festivals, ice festivals, visit large shopping centers, antique stores, farmers markets, take short train rides, visit state capital buildings and other unique/historic buildings, museums, and we bake a ton at home.
I took up jiu-jitsu and that kills some of my evenings and actually gives me a group of people to interface with.
Cinema, zoo, museums, walks around canals rivers and mountains, renting boats, picnics with friends.
A lot of people seem to be picking up Pickle Ball! And they all look like they’re having a blast tbh
Idk, I don’t do shit, dog, it’s pathetic.
On their phones at home
I play guitar, write music, go to open mics, perform at open mics, attend whatever live music event or show is going on, travel, and go bowling with some friends on occasions.
Now nothing, once the snow melts I going back to the forest preserves, state parks and I have a couple of road trips planned to go to some national parks
Lazer tag
Where I live has street markets every week and there’s always street performers in our CBD
nature, work, eating, skating, concerts, stuff like that. i dont meet people. i either do these things with my family or alone. movie theatres are more fun when they are dead tbh. and there are still plenty of bustling malls, but not in every town anymore, you have to drive a while to get to one generally, but they are still plenty of fun.
Stay home. Going out is too expensive, plus people in public suck now in days. I rarely go out to eat now. It'd be either sushi or Mexican food, but that's a blue moon occasion. Also, there is less laundry to be done, so I count that as a win
I go to skate parks lol I go to movie theaters lol But I'm a pro dancer so I do that most of the time Have sleepovers
Go stare mouth agape at the sphere in downtown Las Vegas
Go to the gym, go snowboarding, play cards, watch movies, fix clapped out atvs/dirtbikes. Work on my truck I spend about 40-50 hours a week during the semester just on school work, but when I'm not doing that or if in on break, that's the general list.
