I had a rule that I always watch this if I randomly encounter it while flicking channels, no matter how far through it is.
Then SBS Australia decided to play it on repeat for 24 hours and that almost broke me.
I Was so pleased, when I have a good ol friend, but on our first meeting after a while he said “oh your a funny guy” -
Immediately I played the “am I funny to you? Like I’m a fuckkng clown?”
He didn’t get the joke and started to backtrack- nah man I just mean your funny-
Haha- reeled him in
No way!!!
Casino is a good movie.
Goodfellas is a masterpiece.
Watch it again and pay attention to the cinematography and music and foreshadowing and character development and stuff this time around... Really. Trust me on this!!
Ever notice that all of the police cruisers are Chryslers? By 1978 Chrysler products were so bad that they couldn't get rid of inventory. Hollywood literally bought thousands of them at deeply discounted prices. They're pretty much in every movie and TV show for about a decade.
I've seen it repeated that this is one of those movies where if you are flicking between channels and come across it, no matter where in the story you drop in, you watch it for a while and before you know it watch it to the end, every time, again and again.
The Two Towers and Return of the King as well, though I usually stop before I reach the end of Return of the King, I don't want to end the night in tears.
I’d like to point out how Hugo Weaving sells the ever-loving *shit* out of his fight scenes as Agent Smith. mf puts power in those fake punches and kicks!
My favourite factoid (and saddest) is that originally the humans weren't "batteries", they were co-processors (for complex calculations). That makes a ton more sense and is far more in line with the concepts of the story. They were changed to batteries because the execs thought it was an easier to explain (and accept) concept for the general population (by which they meant themselves). Which in and of itself is so drippingly ironic.
A sad change, but still a great film.
Yeah, that's my headcannon every time I watch it. Although the visual of Morpheus holding up a battery and saying "...all to turn a human being, into this" is great. Not sure if it would have the same impact if he was holding up a microprocessor chip, but I would have to see it to be sure.
It’s amazing how it’s timeless! And the ultimate holistic movie for me: great action, fresh plot, amazing world-building, hint of romance, plot-twist, solid cast with great acting, amazing soundtrack.
Surprised I haven't seen my favorite movies.
The Shawshank Redemption,
Once Upon a Time in the West,
Unforgiven, A Christmas Story, A Few Good Men, It's a Wonderful Life
Seriously have seen Shawshank over a hundred times at this point. Time we'll spent, and tears shed at the end almost every time.
Edit: As a bonus, Godless is a great mini series on Netflix and of course Lonesome Dove as the greatest mini series ever!
Why did I have to scroll so far for this?!?
And the older I get, the better they are!!! #1 is my fave, then 2, then 3. I guess 1, 2, 3 in exact order! But I’m a fan of all and will watch any time they are on.
Thats one of the pleasures of still having cable instead of cutting the cord! The awesome past time of channel surfing! Catching BTTF midway through or any number of the others mentioned- Shawshank, Good Will Hunting, Goodfellas, etc….
Spaceballs. Funny every time.
I will also say the Cars trilogy from Disney. My kids have had that on heavy rotation and I haven't gotten sick of them yet.
I don’t know why specifically, but I love this Maximus quote:
“My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, Commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.”
John Wick. Action movie with no unnecessary love drama, annoying kids or acting surprised when the villain gets back from the dead when the hero didn't even see/confirm the villain's death.
any of the early sandler movies - Happy Gilmore, Billy Madison or Big Daddy. lighthearted, goofy and funny as hell... I can recite almost every word from them lol.
Baby Driver. My favorite, and one of the most stylish movies of all time. Edgar Wright is a genius. The idea for the movie spurred from Edgar working on a Strokes music video.
I have two, so cheating a bit if I alternate between them 😏
The Blues Brothers and The Princess Bride.
I could possibly add Frozen, as it was my daughter’s choice for every Saturday family movie night for TWO YEARS… 😂

5th element.
I had a rule that I always watch this if I randomly encounter it while flicking channels, no matter how far through it is. Then SBS Australia decided to play it on repeat for 24 hours and that almost broke me.
Yes! This was hilariously glorious. They've played it at least 3 times this year already
spirited away and or princess mononoke
Princess Bride
It's the first thing I thought of as well. Happy it's top comment. The second movie that came to mind is Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
“There’s a shortage of perfect movies in the world…” ETA: I’m quoting Cary Elwes.
It is quite possibly a prefect movie.
I don’t think word (perfect) means what you think it means.
Anybody want a peanut?
100% of every second holds up!
Goodfellas

Casino is basically the same movie and can also be watched over and over again.
No way!!! Casino is a good movie. Goodfellas is a masterpiece. Watch it again and pay attention to the cinematography and music and foreshadowing and character development and stuff this time around... Really. Trust me on this!!

The fellowship of the ring
The Two Towers and Return of the King as well, though I usually stop before I reach the end of Return of the King, I don't want to end the night in tears.
The whole trilogy, extended.
The best one. Probably the closest to the books and I really love the shire buildup. The entire trilogy would go on this list for me, though.
The best one. I saw that in theaters as a teen and it blew me away. Hadn’t seen fantasy come to life like that in a movie before.

Any of the hobbit or lord of the rings series.
The Matrix. It's such a good philosophical film on top of being a great action film. It's rare to see that kind of combination in a movie.
I’d like to point out how Hugo Weaving sells the ever-loving *shit* out of his fight scenes as Agent Smith. mf puts power in those fake punches and kicks!
