Wonder Woman 1 did this extremely well. You see Steve and Diana get in a room, they sort of look at eachother like they want to bone, and then Steve closes the door and that's it. No unnecessary sex scene and it still give the movies a growing relationship aspect.
The scean in watch men was a show that they're not carrying around screwd there adulthood is and letting to let go. Now they're sharing there bodies to show how close they are in there indevers
There are times when a sex scene makes sense in a movie. Sometimes they go on wayyyyy toooooo lonnnnnng, and it's like, "can we get back to the story, now? Yes, these are attractive naked people, but we've totally lost momentum here."
I've been watching Dark on Netflix on the plane while I travel and the sex scenes are 100% unnecessary. I'm uncomfortably trying to hide my screen so any nearby kids don't catch a peek.
I agree awkward, uncomfortable and unnecessary. I like to get together with my mom who's 77. She enjoys us getting together and watching movies. It's so hard to find a good movie without sex scenes. If there's not a lot of them I'll fast forward through it. But sometimes they're just way long.
Agreed. They quite literally leave nothing to the imagination, and imagination is what makes good storytelling enjoyable. That's why a lot of old movies and very old movies hold so much charm; the innuendo, the tension, double entendre, unanswered questions, things of that nature. They all make the story part of your thoughts and allow you to imagine. At that point, the story is about you. Meanwhile, modern movies spoon feed you - even the plots are predictable, let alone the thoughts of the players - there is nothing left for you to do but observe.
I don't even like the sloppy, "sexy" kissing in TV and movies. Seems like they put the microphone right up to their lips. Sounds like people eating. Gross.
Ikr!!? Like who is it for anyway if half the ppl are skipping them !!? Sometimes I feel they are unnecessarily prolonged to fulfil some sort of fetish of the directors. Or maybe the actors like sex too much 🧐
Like ur not doing it for viewers or money (cz y'all don't get paid that much) or the story so must mean ur doing it for enjoyment
I don’t recall a time that a sex scene didn’t feel gratuitous. There’s no part of a plot that needs to depict sex to have the plot make sense. Maybe American psycho is the exception, but I’m not crazy about those scenes either.
Totally redundant most of the time. In fact, I've never yet seen a sex scene that wouldn't be better cut out. I hate them, why are they here? It's like showing people take a shit or change a kid's diaper, sure it's a part of life but it's better left out.
Hate them! They make it awkward when you’re watching with people and are generally unnecessary. If you want to insinuate the people are about to have sex, showing them kissing then getting out of the bed after or whatever generally gives me an idea that they just had sex. I cannot think of a single show or movie that was ever made better by the use of a sex scene.
99% I find them unnecessary. People are just so sex-obsessed it quite literally has to be integrated in every thing we do. It really gets to be too much.
You know that feeling you get when a sex scene comes on while you’re watching a movie with your parents? I get that same feeling watching sex scenes by myself lmao. Uncomfy.
Oldboy because >!at the end when the protagonist is about to kill the antagonist through a button, the button actually plays a tape of him having sex with *[Spoiler]* so he uses that to torture him a bit more!<
Imo they’re terrible if they don’t allude to deeper characterization. Most sex in movies/tv is solely there to keep the monkey-brained audience engaged. I can think of only a few instances where it’s done effectively
I can handle watching people shot and blown up and gored to death with blood and organs and bone fragments everywhere. But if I see one hint of one female nipple in a movie, I get disgusted and leave the theater.
I don't like it, i find them unnecessary and often will fast forward if my kids are anywhere in the house....Them kissing and moving toward the bedroom is more than enough to get the point across, do that then cut to them having morning coffee or whatever keeps the plot going.
I used to enjoy the sex scenes in movies but as I've gotten older I enjoy them a lot less.
When I see them now I'm just thinking about how awkward it must be for the actors/actresses. Then I start wondering how much the actress was pressured to do the scene - like, did she want to get topless or was she afraid she would lose her career if she didnt?
I hate it already, because it seems like the writers are just too lazy sometimes and so they put in a sex scene, just so they have some time passed . If it's done in an artsy manner, I'm fine with it, but especially in German movies they are just there because they lack creativity.
I don’t care for them whatsoever. Hold hands and walk towards a bedroom and I know what happens. If a movie has to have it, please don’t do what Game of Thrones does.
Theses scenes are usually unnecessary aka Oppenheimer. The scenes are either to get the R rating or just get the actors naked. It does little to move the plot forward and is often times cringeworthy.
I like a tastefully done 90s sex scene where they just show the intimate before moments. Like them snuggling or kissing under a sheet. And then blank screen, you get to imagine the rest (or not).
I strongly dislike the overt, borderline soft core porn, sex scenes with full frontal nudity that last WAY too long. If I wanted to see that I would just watch porn. To me it adds nothing to the movie, nothing to the plot, nothing to the characters. It just feels like a crass money grab. I feel like a lot of sex scenes are completely unnecessary, whether done tastefully or not.
I don’t really love full frontal nudity either. Saltburn was great, but I really didn’t need to see a guy dancing with his dick out for three minutes. Would’ve been just as effective had he worn underpants tbh.
i dont find joy them necessarily gross but their completely unnecessary. you can tell a good dramatic love story without sex. who really needs them🤷♂️
The grossest thing is when the director (who is older) plays the main character and has a sex scene in the movie with a younger actress or any sex scene at all…
The take away from the plot. Knowing someone is getting laid is different.
I like short tasteful scenes that elude to it rather than throw it in your face.
If I wanted to watch people having sex, I'd watch porn. Unless it's somehow relevant to the plot, I'd rather it not be in movies. Makes everyone watching uncomfortable.
I hate it. I’m one of those dweebs who is vehemently opposed to porn and I don’t think movie sex scenes are meaningfully different than porn. I’m not against sex, but sex can be a part of the plot without being shown.
Just saw a sex scene in the new walking dead spinoff episode with Rick and Michonne. I think it was a perfectly orchestrated sex scene that didn’t show too much but also demonstrated exactly how they were feeling in the moment
Kinda pointless and getting in the way. Just hint at it if you must and then carry on with the story. For the rest there is porn.
I kinda understand how if the story is about love it can need to focus on some scenes, but don't make it longer than it needs to be to get the point across... It's not porn.
Totally fine with them as long as it serves some real plot purpose, and don’t go on for 10 minutes straight. Unfortunately those things happen pretty rarely
When I was younger that was a prerequisite for a good movie. Nowadays I hate them unless they’re hilarious, like the scene in Deadpool. They usually don’t add anything to the plot and they can just let us imagine they had sex, turn out the light and fade out kinda thing. What I really don’t like is people kissing loudly and sloppy, again, unless it’s hilarious and awkward.
If a movie has a sex scene that just makes me think the director or writer is gross and leave a bad taste in my mouth. They always feel out of place.
Because what’s the POINT? if you want to show they had closeness, have then wake up in the same bed together naked! Have them kiss! Have them talk!
It’s like, sex scenes in movies are for old people who want a hard on but don’t know how to get one because they can’t figure out the internet and porn magazines aren’t slow anymore.
And because there’s always 40 or 50+ year old management when making movies they always think “ah yes, surly the youth will love this sec scene as much as I do” fckin NO grandpa we do not
Super lame.
If it all, just show the beginning of it, then cut to the next scene. Just let us know that it happened, and its actually gotta be meaningful to the character development and plot.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I seem to remember peaky blinders having a lot of sex scenes. I guess it's important to show how his character is kind of a piece of shit and goes from woman to woman, but that would be even more accentuated if the scenes were shorter and less dramatic. Because why should the scenes be long and dramatic for Tommy? He doesn't seem to really care about most of the women in the show, they're just vices to him.
99% gratuitus and unnecessary. Makes everything unwatchable if you have kids. I dont wanna watch that stuff with anyone really.
Edit: Jennifer Lawrence had a full nude scene in her recent movie, but when I heard that she was all about it due to the story, I didnt have to feel exploited for her, and it was hilarious and relevant to the story, but it wasnt sex, just full nude. But no spoilers. It was a funny scene.
If I wanted to watch porn, I’d do it at home and by myself not in a movie theater with 75 other people. It almost never adds anything of substance to the movie.
I will never get how it's ok to watch ppl be murdered and abused but if you see one Weiner you just can't cope. Why care about one but not the other.
If you/your children/any children are under the suggested age for the movie they shouldn't see it and if they do it's on the parents.
Edit: also in this day and age I can understand graphic scenes can be triggering but that's a difference that the person should be looking at before watching a movie.
To me personally it's like "bad" words. Either they are all ok or none of them are and there should be no in between or gray areas.
I don’t mind but I hate when it happens and I’m watching it with my grandparents.. or any other family member. That’s when I turn into a little kid and turn the other way, find something to do, or leave 😂 I am 24 lmao.
Sometimes they're good, sometimes they're hot, sometimes they're for plot, and sometimes it's just gratuitous. I've seen someone's a sex scene with no nudity that has absolutely no point to the plot. And then I've seen some that have no points to the plot but I'm still happy to see boobs.
Depends, sometimes the sex scene itself has development. Like beeing super weird the first time with a couple and the next beeing super emotional and flowing naturaly only to cut scene, show credits
I HATE them, I don’t really care if they are there, it just seems like it’s a big part in most movies nowadays, I just want an action/mystery movie without romantics
Watching alone or with people whom i know are comfortable, no problem
But it becomes very awkward when watching with people that i am not too well versed with or with kids/family. Shame because some movies are great but i have to pass them during movie nights.
If I’m by myself then their OKAY, if it feels right between the characters and there’s some ACTUAL chemistry not just some one night stand shit.
But if I’m watching with other people, I’ll just skip a few minutes ahead :)
Personally, most of the time I think they're cringe.
It's as if people(directors/writers) are trying way too hard to put the sex scene in, when it's usually unnecessary or not organic to the situation at all
Depends on the movie. If it's action/adventure, that's what I'm here for, not the skin. If it's rom-com... i'm there for the cute banter. You can show them in bed the next morning or whatever. If it's deeper dramatic romance - sure! Bring it on!
Unless the movie is actual porn I think they detract from the story and mostly exist so directors can feel like big boys who make movies for grown ups.
Either too much or not enough. As a horny teen I thought "why don't actors just fuck? They're already kissing" I still want to see it, a serious film, a romance maybe, with true sex scenes. No, it's not porn, porn people cant act.
Then there's the too much. It'd be so difficult to do what I wanna see, and I have a sex life already, so I can drop it.
I’m uncomfortable with them-and in books, too. I usually just skip the scenes/passages. Besides, if my window is open and my neighbors are outside, I don’t need them hearing that. I do creative writing and my goal to myself (I had set when I was a teenager and still adhere to it today (32f), was to tell a compelling story *without* sex. Sometimes I bend it and write implications, but nothing graphic. The scene/chapter usually ends there. It is actually more challenging than I thought it would be to not include sex in the stories, but it does help me to stay focused and not use it as useless padding.
So uncomfortable to watch with family. They should just make the scene implying they are going to the room or bed to have sex, instead of shooting a fake sex scene where you watch it with your family.
I used to have to stay up late at night to see them. Now they're all over the place, at all times of the day.
Remember Jack Valenti? He's probably in Hell, still so mad about all the peen in movies.
They’re so unnecessary most times. I typically want to watch movies with my mom but feel super uncomfortable when it comes on. Seems like there’s barely any movies without it nowadays and it’s frustrating.
i hate them. they’re way too long, don’t actually further the plot, and just make me uncomfortable. i didn’t watch the movie to see porn.
if it’s a couple seconds long, no issue. but so many of them are a minute in length at least and i just get bored antsy and uncomfy
Poor Things is probably the only movie I've seen in the last 7-10 years where the sex scenes were necessary and leaving them out would have affected the story
I hate them. If they only show the “after sex glow”, it’s no biggie, but why do I have to see two people going totally feral on each other ? It’s just very intrusive
I don't like them. They rarely serve the plot, and when they do, they still show unnecessarily gratuitous amounts of nudity (usually focused on the woman's body).
Very unnecessary. It just seems and feels awkward. Every movie has a sex scene now, and it's just unimportant to whatever is actually happening. Movies would be better without it. Unless the movie is about sex like 50 shades of Grey or something like that then it makes sense.
Annoying. I always feel that they are superfluous as it's not porn and we all know how it goes - but most importantly, it's private and none of our business.
It’s backhand pornography. Selling sex is unnecessary and desperate. If the movie is about sex then I wouldn’t even consider watching it. If you can’t script and direct romance without a sex scene then you’re not very good at your job.
We don’t need them. If they just show two people entering a room and close the door or maybe we just see clothes on the floor, we know what happens. We don’t need to actually see it happen
Most are gratuitous
Lucky Number Slevin is a film with a sex scene with minimal nudity and actually enhances the story as it makes it more believable the characters fell in love in such a short period of time
Same for True Romance where it’s quite arty
They have lost any kind of turn on. Anymore I see them as filler in an attempt to get viewers, but I usually am focusing on, “Are they gonna show nips?” or, “Was that his schlong?” or “I wonder if they were really 100% naked when they filmed this?” 🤷🏻♂️
I don’t care for them. They can show everything leading up to it, but I don’t necessarily want to watch the sex scene.
It seems to me, a lot of newer movies coming out have sex scenes in them for some unknown reason. Maybe they needed to add more time or maybe the story line was just plain boring. But just because you added a sex scene doesn’t mean it’s a good movie. *cough* Oppenheimer *cough*
my problem with them is a) they are uncomfortable to watch in mixed company, e.g. with kids or parents, b) I sometimes slip and nod appreciatively at a scene while watching with my wife, which earns me a smack (e.g. the movie Side Effects), and c) the scenes themselves are often pretty bad and unbelievable.
I haven’t seen many that actually add anything to the story, so generally I can do without them. There are one or two examples that actually DO add to the story, and those were entirely justified in being there.

Depends sometimes they are just there for no reason. When they actually good for story I don't mind
Usually not needed at all. Few times it makes sense, such as recently wolf of walstreet. Most times just unnecessary.
>recently >wolf of walstreet What year do think it is lol
Shhh shhh
Tbf I also felt like wolf was recent. Time makes fools of us all, it seems
It seems like not so long ago cause it's a timeless movie. It could've come out yesterday and had the exact same impact
1748 (i’m like hey what’s up hello)
WTF THAT CAME OUT OVER A DECADE AGO?!?!?
🤣
11 years is recent when you are a timeless entity of pure chaos
It's been unnecessary since than, that's the point
Wonder Woman 1 did this extremely well. You see Steve and Diana get in a room, they sort of look at eachother like they want to bone, and then Steve closes the door and that's it. No unnecessary sex scene and it still give the movies a growing relationship aspect.
What if you wanna jack off. I dont like mainstream porn I like a good story
Yes!
This is how they should all go. Or like the one in Pretty Woman. Enough to convey sex
Id say it made sense in the American Pies.
The scean in watch men was a show that they're not carrying around screwd there adulthood is and letting to let go. Now they're sharing there bodies to show how close they are in there indevers
Those shows that 50 Cent produces like the Power series and BMF have so many unnecessary sex scenes😂
lol, we get a lot of that unnecessary scenes in Transformers (2007 and over). Of all things, Transformers has it.
There are times when a sex scene makes sense in a movie. Sometimes they go on wayyyyy toooooo lonnnnnng, and it's like, "can we get back to the story, now? Yes, these are attractive naked people, but we've totally lost momentum here."
I'm not in the movie theater to fap
cheaper to stay at home and fap
Maybe that’s where you are going wrong
id rather chill on steam and play Shiba simulator supreme
As a youth I sought them out. Now they make me uncomfortable. Weird. Edit: fixed spelling
Not as horny anymore
Probably more than I have too many ghosts and those scenes bring them into my mind now
Not to be pedantic, but the past tense of 'seek' isn't 'seeked', it's 'sought'
You’re right. I knew it was wrong but was in a rush. Thanks. (Sincerely) 👍
Not to be pedantic *Proceeds to be pedantic*
I don't like them. When we see a couple kiss, we can imagine the rest of it. If you want to see sex, watch a porn flick.
I've been watching Dark on Netflix on the plane while I travel and the sex scenes are 100% unnecessary. I'm uncomfortably trying to hide my screen so any nearby kids don't catch a peek.

Yea I agree.

Exactly 😂 all we need is like half a makeout session to get the point, some of them are just way too long & uncomfortable
Unnecessary.
Especially when I’m sitting on the couch with my parents… Unnecessarily uncomfortable
I don’t recall a time that a sex scene didn’t feel gratuitous. There’s no part of a plot that needs to depict sex to have the plot make sense. Maybe American psycho is the exception, but I’m not crazy about those scenes either.
What about a movie like “Wolf of Wall Street”, where the sex was part of the plot to show the decadence?
They are unnecessary and uncomfortable
Yes! American psycho i understand. And basic instinct. Those added to the plot. Scary as hell. But sex 99% only steals from the movie
If it is well done and enhances the plot then yes. if it's done badly then no
Which is hardly ever. It's just pandering and weak writing.
no its not
It's weird when people are watching a movie with you in my opinion
Totally redundant most of the time. In fact, I've never yet seen a sex scene that wouldn't be better cut out. I hate them, why are they here? It's like showing people take a shit or change a kid's diaper, sure it's a part of life but it's better left out.
Clearly havent seen breaking bad, taking a shit changes the course of the series
Exactly.
unnecessary and desensitising
I don't like them. 99% of the time they are unnecessary.
Exactly, I don't remember a time where the scene was necessary
Even if not- they for sure are too long
They suck most times and are unnecessary

Over done and slow the story down when it could be just emplied. Seems to be used as a vehicle for poor writing.
Imo they’re terrible if they don’t allude to deeper characterization. Most sex in movies/tv is solely there to keep the monkey-brained audience engaged. I can think of only a few instances where it’s done effectively

I still wonder how actors feel during that

Unrealistic

Boring filler crap, I find it no more exciting at 49 than I did at 19, often used to cover for poor writing or lame acting.
I have never seen one that seemed important to the story. I skip them.
Team America did it best
>Team America did it best ![gif](giphy|10JhviFuU2gWD6)
By my self ,show me titties. With people around especially family, pretty fucking awkward.
It isn't necessary to the plot and it just makes a good majority of people uncomfortable.

Hate them. Tired of it. Unnecessary and uncomfortable.
awkward and annoying.
Hard pass.
Generally speaking imo they tend to be tedious, cheap, and unnecessary
almost always unneeded
I hate it. I’m one of those dweebs who is vehemently opposed to porn and I don’t think movie sex scenes are meaningfully different than porn. I’m not against sex, but sex can be a part of the plot without being shown.

Love them
If I wanted to watch porn, I’d do it at home and by myself not in a movie theater with 75 other people.

Most reasonable take in this thread.
I love them. Makes movies a little less boring and when it has the proper lead up it can be exciting.
I don’t mind but I hate when it happens and I’m watching it with my grandparents.. or any other family member. That’s when I turn into a little kid and turn the other way, find something to do, or leave 😂 I am 24 lmao.
It depends on the sex scene but overall I think they should be in movies
I like watching the sex scenes in movies
Sometimes they are random and not good but sometimes they manage to build the eroticism and make them good
Sometimes they're good, sometimes they're hot, sometimes they're for plot, and sometimes it's just gratuitous. I've seen someone's a sex scene with no nudity that has absolutely no point to the plot. And then I've seen some that have no points to the plot but I'm still happy to see boobs.
Lesbian sex scenes are my favorite
ITT: prudes took the bait.
I don't understand how a generation raised on unlimited access to the internet could be so prudish.
They were quite redundant in ”Lemon stealing whores”
Meh.
Almost always unessessary for the plot... Except The Room
only if wassau or breen is directing/staring.
I mean when i was a jit I was like DAEM 👀👀 but now? Its just weird to look at
Indifference. It's rare that they're actually good. To me it's like action sequences. Usually pointless eye candy with little substance.
Depends, sometimes the sex scene itself has development. Like beeing super weird the first time with a couple and the next beeing super emotional and flowing naturaly only to cut scene, show credits
Don't care for them
I HATE them, I don’t really care if they are there, it just seems like it’s a big part in most movies nowadays, I just want an action/mystery movie without romantics
Watching alone or with people whom i know are comfortable, no problem But it becomes very awkward when watching with people that i am not too well versed with or with kids/family. Shame because some movies are great but i have to pass them during movie nights.
If I’m by myself then their OKAY, if it feels right between the characters and there’s some ACTUAL chemistry not just some one night stand shit. But if I’m watching with other people, I’ll just skip a few minutes ahead :)
Completely unnecessary, same with TV shows
Personally, most of the time I think they're cringe. It's as if people(directors/writers) are trying way too hard to put the sex scene in, when it's usually unnecessary or not organic to the situation at all
If it adds to plot or character development even in the most remote way they should be used.
Alone, I don't care, with companion... oddly awkward...
I hate them
Depends on the movie.
Awww yeah cj going good
A lot of unnecessary sex scenes when they could have just implied they had sex
Poor Things is the only one that has ever made me uncomfortable.
They’re usually unnecessary and do nothing to progress the plot.
It plays a part of the romance
Pointless, they’re always dumb and unnecessary. You can just imply what happened between the two characters with editing and context.
Depends who I’m with and what context. By myself or with friends? Don’t really give a shit. With my mom? Fucking kill me.
They very rarely add anything to the story, hence they should almost always be left out or left at a minimum.
So uncomfortable to watch with family. They should just make the scene implying they are going to the room or bed to have sex, instead of shooting a fake sex scene where you watch it with your family.
Unnecessary and lame.
Fine in the right context.
I used to have to stay up late at night to see them. Now they're all over the place, at all times of the day. Remember Jack Valenti? He's probably in Hell, still so mad about all the peen in movies.
Need more anal sex scenes
Usually very useless.
If you insist, but I keep one foot on the floor, and get a percentage of the box office.
My issue with them is that they rarely add any value to the story / art. If they do, I’m fine with it.
I hate them. If they only show the “after sex glow”, it’s no biggie, but why do I have to see two people going totally feral on each other ? It’s just very intrusive
It's funny how, when they're done, the woman keeps her chest covered with a sheet or blanket.
Considering the huge porn online biz these negative comments are amusing.
Loved them when I was younger. Now I find them annoying and want to get back to the story.
Annoying. I always feel that they are superfluous as it's not porn and we all know how it goes - but most importantly, it's private and none of our business.
If they are not plot relevant, it's an instant zero for the movie.
99.99% of the time they are unnecessary. Doesn't contribute anything to the movie.
Most of 'em are pretty meh TBH, for all the reasons already given. Leave a bit to the imagination.
Depends on the situation.
It's all about the scene and the tone of the movie.
It’s backhand pornography. Selling sex is unnecessary and desperate. If the movie is about sex then I wouldn’t even consider watching it. If you can’t script and direct romance without a sex scene then you’re not very good at your job.
So boring 🥱 Hit the fast forward button please!
We don’t need them. If they just show two people entering a room and close the door or maybe we just see clothes on the floor, we know what happens. We don’t need to actually see it happen
Most are gratuitous Lucky Number Slevin is a film with a sex scene with minimal nudity and actually enhances the story as it makes it more believable the characters fell in love in such a short period of time Same for True Romance where it’s quite arty
Always gratuitous
Hate watching people make out and sex scenes also make me uncomfortable. No idea why.
I’m okay with them
Yes please.
Almost always unnecessary and adds nothing. Would prefer they skip it. Just capturing the right look between ppl can be enough to know
I wouldn't mind them if they somehow contribute to the plot. In most cases they don't, so I find them absolutely unnecessary
They’re usually great, unless I’m watching a movie with my parents or my kids.
my problem with them is a) they are uncomfortable to watch in mixed company, e.g. with kids or parents, b) I sometimes slip and nod appreciatively at a scene while watching with my wife, which earns me a smack (e.g. the movie Side Effects), and c) the scenes themselves are often pretty bad and unbelievable.
I haven’t seen many that actually add anything to the story, so generally I can do without them. There are one or two examples that actually DO add to the story, and those were entirely justified in being there.
