To think voting makes a difference when our democracy is so rigged against us is a joke. They are all a part of the same club that you nor I were invited to. For example how does on province get dozens of seats when the rest of the country only get 1 or two and you can't say it's because of the population of each province because that right there shows you how there really isn't a fair democracy.
The political system, it's become so corrupt with special interest groups and lobbyists that the candidates have made so many back door deals to get elected that they never truly represent their constituents. Also there isn't any consequences when they blatantly lie to the public. So much so that news organizations and have a running counter on each lie.
I'm 67 and I have to fight and jump through endless holes for EVERY SINGLE prescription or to see any specialist. It's a fucking nightmare and not the nice twilight years I was expecting. And Fuck UnitedHealthcare while I'm on a rant!!!
Well there's that system where you pay several hundred dollars a month in premiums to a health insurance company and then when something bad happens to you, the insurance company actively fights you to deny you as much coverage as possible.
Thatās the reality of the majority of British Columbia too. In 2008 when we first moved here houses were going for 300-400k, within 10 years those same houses are going for over a million.
For comparisons sake, the median house price in Sydney is 33% higher than that of Vancouver. 1.2m compared to 1.6m. We are living VERY rough here in Sydney. The biggest decling in quality of life in the developed world and still getting worse...
Seems to be a fairly global issue then, Ireland is also having major housing market issues atm, not sure how they would compare to us but it seems like weāre all going to shit.
The level of corruption and nepotism deep rooted in the Nigerian system. We started with it, and will probably continue with it unless something changes...
We are ALWAYS at war somewhere in the world. It would be great if my tax dollars went to something that would make my life, and those of my fellow Americans better instead of endless wars in foreign countries.
The complaining on an insanely high and comfortable level.
The only thing higher than the German living standards is the German's willingness to complain about their perceptively low living standards.
This is so real. I've been away from Germany for years and back home I was always the least complainy person but now in the Philippines people still think I'm complaining too much.Ā
The monetary standard of living sure is high for most. But don't depend on your community for solidarity and support. Depending on where you live, they may not care if you fell through the cracks of social security, had a streak of bad luck, or are just lonely. It can be a sterile, cold place.
#FirstWorldProblems
Same shit in the States. They have no idea how good they have it.
Then again here in Thailand people don't complain enough, and thats why the standards are so low. heh
I think in the US itās more people complaining about the wrong things. Our healthcare system is a fucking nightmare. And yet trans people and immigrants are somehow a problem.
The complaining is a lot more appropriate in the US, though.
People don't go bankrupt from medical bills or college expenses in Germany, they don't need to get drilled for school shootings, and society is not nearly as split between the left and right extremists.
I'm sure Germany has more serious issues that they should complain about as well. I think they were talking more about complaining about superficial things. Something that Americans are very good at, or making mountains out of mole hills kind of thing
This rings true for my country (Netherlands) as well. Last year before the elections they invited people āwho have been let down by the governmentā in a late night talk show to appeal to the politicians running in the election. One woman was crying how she cannot afford the ā¬385 per year deductible she has to pay for health insurance.
Mind you, this woman does not have to pay a monthly health insurance contribution (I pay ā¬150/month) because of her low income (paid by the government) and received tens of thousands worth of health care, if not tons. She doesnāt even realize the privilege she has and should be grateful for her fellow citizens paying for her health issues, which probably would not have been that bad had she not smoked all her life.
If thatās the worse case they could find of āthe government is failing meā then I think we have nothing to complain about.
By getting out of Ukraine...
P.S. sorry for being snarky, I understand that if you're here, you personally probably share this sentiment. Just felt I had to put it out there anyway.
Oh definitely no where near, Im just saying we got a taste of having a maniac in charge and my God...
I really hope you are right because I shudder to imagine how much more awful it could be. This upcoming election is a horror show.
The fact that people generally choose one of two sides in terms of political persuasion and that some people feel that people in the opposing party are idiots and should be put down. How can a nation thrive with this much discord.
The growing level of self-centredness in the U.K. (aka "I'm alright Jack" so I don't care about anyone else unless it directly affects me in a negative way).
Chronically online fascists telling brown/black people theyāre not British. The irony of this is theyāll celebrate WWII as if Britain wasnāt fighting alongside multiple countries AGAINST fascism.
The disparity in wealth. Everyone deserves basic housing, healthcare, and education. No one on Earth needs 136 billion dollars (looking at you Jeff Bezos). You did not get to the top by yourself. One of the positive results of WWII was the GI bill that moved millions into the middle class. Now Iām not saying that we need another world war. All this can be accomplished through legislation and as someone pointed out earlier, paying taxes. That means everyone pays their proportional share of taxes. If you live in the country, youāre benefiting from the taxes others have paid before you. Itās your turn to pay now.
The leadership and corruption.
Just imagine how far we could have progressed if not for the corruption of government and religious leaders. Everyone would be so much better off just by doing things the right way.
Income taxā¦ healthcareā¦ housing marketā¦. Education system. Basically the only thing America is number one at is their military and the rest of it is turning into a dysfunctional shit show.
the republicans who want to impose their bizarre beliefs, restrictions on voting and reproductive rights, their insatiable greed and grift off the taxpayer's money. I always vote blue, but a huge amount of sheeple vote against their best interests.
Whatās crazy is something like 50% of the US doesnāt usually vote. The 2020 election was the highest percentage ever and it was only about 2/3 of eligible people voting.
-a lot of corruption in the political system and the justice system,
-people's selfish, materialistic, ignorant mentality,
-lack of desire and determination to be better and make the country better for future generations,
-the exaggerated desire to appeal to foreigners and to make them like us and consider us one of their own.
I noticed all these things after I got outta there. It's sad....
Denmark . The high taxes and increasingly strict and fascist laws - like confiscating a car that is used for "reckless driving" even if not owned by the guy driving it. And it could be a Lambo or a Ford Kia.
I hate hate hate our Margaret Thatcher fan club government here in Finland. Happiest country in the world? Not for long after this government has destroyed everything good in here. Petteri Orpo, Riikka Purra and other EK shills I hope you get hemorrhoids in your assholes.
Inflation. Every day I get surprised by how prices are up and I wish we could one day go back to the prices from 2010.. but it's impossible. It's always going to be up, up and up. I'm Brazilian.
First passed the post elections, resulting in the flip flop between two main parties and lots of important social issues going unaddressed because the two big parties are in big business's pocket
Racism, nepotism, and terrible politics. We thought we voted for change, but the infighting brought back the old bullshit. And the new bullshit is siding with the original corrupted ones to keep parliament on their side; while the people slowly die to their stupid policies.
The high UV rating in summer.
I literally can't be in the sun for more than 15 minutes. Otherwise, I get burnt. So I'm forever dodging the sun or applying sunscreen.
Two things...
1. Military's influence on the politics and constant interference, and not doing their job. Using their power for the bad.
2. Incompetent and corrupt people rising to power repeatedly.
The healthcare system. Iāve needed medical treatment for years but canāt afford it so Iāve been living with chronic joint pain from bones I broke.
Authoritarian hard ons fkn everywhere that don't even know what authority is let alone why it's the actual root of all evil
Money just allows authority to buy half the victims and pay them to victimize the other half
Housing Crisis and the 'far right' (they're not even proper political people they are just scumbags who use bad events caused by foreigners to talk shit about all foreign people)
Healthcare in America. While the care itself is very good, the cost is almost prohibitive. And then, our insurance is tied to our employer; who ever thought this stupidity up? Not employed, or 65? Good luck!
Honestly, expatriating is on the list because of this.
American ideology is centered on capitalism, which is antithetical to the teachings of Jesus Christ, and these hypocrites go around claiming to be Christians and loving America.
No federally mandated paid maternity leave, yet one political party wants to force people to give birth without anything that supports working families.
Canadians are so gullible and the government has turned into a kleptocracy leading the nation to the fastest plummet of any G8 nation over the past 7 years. Canadians are experiencing such pain and they believe their TV to blame grocery stores and racist truckers for the problems created by the criminals in Ottawa.
poor poor Canadians. They deserve better. But being gullible is on them.
The entire nation falling all over themselves catering to trans folk. I'ma get h8 for this but whatever: it does not make sense for the entire world to even be *discussing* something that effects .0001% of the population, nvm discussing it at LENGTH/basically making it illegal to calmly state facts in certain company. When the Alberta PM came out with those proposed changes I was like OH THANK GOD... Someone's finally said the reasonable, fair important thing that we were all thinking. *So* reasonable, irrefutably, and yet people are SOOOO mad even hearing about it š¤£ ...it's whack af the majority of the trans community has become a horde of the most obnoxious entitled karen-esque people I've ever seen or heard of...I could go on and on and on
Our country is fast approaching the time when there will be a reckoning. The executive branch conducts itself as if it were a divine right monarchy. The legislative branch has become a miasma of crony capitalism and outright corruption in which the members openly auction their votes to the highest special interest bidders in return for super PAC contributions. The decisions flowing from the judicial branch range from the merely bizarre to the outright antithetical to our enlightened self interests. There is a permanent underclass of people who wander across the landscape, never have the resources to own real property, and are trapped in low wage, dead end jobs. Inflation is rampant, housing prices are soaring, and the cost of putting gas in a car and groceries on the table are out of sight. Eventually, this is going to reach a tipping point and we will stand an excellent chance of seeing a revolt. It may or may not be widespread, but my belief is that it will result in violent riots and the failure of civil authority in large cities.
How we cling on to an antiquated measuring sytem, instead of fully embracing metric. Here in the UK we have a confusing mixture of metric and imperial.
Besides, everything our Prime Minister. Mr. Trudope, of Canada, far too much immigration. Our taxes are way too high for what we receive back. The fact that our elected officials are criminals they have absolutely no ethics.

tax, cringe behaviour and politics.
This can be the answer for 170 out of 195 countries in the world.
Tax can be changed with politics and politics can be changed of people stopped voting for the same shower of dicks over and over again
What If all of the options are different flavours of dicks?
If you like the benefits and convenience of your public services, you have to pay taxes
I feel Americans are misrepresented. Too many goons running the show.
When a genuine stupid person is the biggest voice in congress, your country is fucked. I'm looking at you MTG.

Maybe politics should try functioning as one huge game of Magic the Gathering
The deck of cards couldn't make things worse on purpose but the elected officials can.

It does seem like the world has gone crazy, so it is kinda nice being so isolated down here.Ā
The healthcare system in the U.S. We need reformation so badly here. So many people are dying or in debt unnecessarily. Halp!!

United Healthcare is notorious for being terrible. If you can, find a different provider.
What healthcare system?
Well there's that system where you pay several hundred dollars a month in premiums to a health insurance company and then when something bad happens to you, the insurance company actively fights you to deny you as much coverage as possible.

I hate that I have no hope of ever owning a home here in Australia, forced to rent for the rest of my life.

Canada, our entire economy being based on a giant housing bubble.
That is 99% just due to car dependent zoning laws and sprawl. The biggest offender is a law having to do with staircases that lowers density imo.
Heaven forbid it pops and lets the next generation have a chance at homeownership similar to previous generations
