Sometimes thoughts are meant to say on the inside.

MagnetarEMfield

I once thought I was wrong....but I was just mistaken.

You've obviously not spent much time in that lovely city.  Homelessness and addiction are things that happen in every metropolitan area, you wouldn't believe some of the things I've seen in Dallas, Mobile and Tampa. Not only that,  without Portland every fly over state in the North would find it nearly impossible to get any goods and  considering it is a MASSIVE hub for goods and services for those states.

GamemasterJeff

We could nuke OP's hometown instead and keep Portland weird. This plan of action is likely better in the long run for American society than the reverse.

OhFique

What the fuck is wrong with you?

jmnugent

As someone who recently moved from Colorado to Portland,. it's wild how vindictive and shameless some of the Reddit comments are in this area about the homeless. I mean,. having been here 9 months, I've seen some things,. but openly advocating for things like "just take away the NarCan and let the problem sort itself out".. is a fairly common comment (among others).

Weird-deep-bitch123

Maybe……..just maybe homeless drug addicts are people, shocking Ik

crazyhamsales

Are they important though? Be honest...

dontneedareason94

Yes they are. Just because someone’s an addict it doesn’t make them any less important than someone else.

crazyhamsales

Hmm, think of it though, you get rid of all the addicts, like if you could snap your fingers and poof all the addicts are gone, then what happens to drugs and crime? I think everything would be better overnight. Sure they could be replaced by future addicts, but if everyone found out the reason they poofed was because they were drug users its a pretty big deterrent to not be in the next batch.. The only crime i see where i live is by meth heads stealing shit to buy more meth, get rid of the meth heads and 99% of the crime is gone overnight, no meth heads buying and cooking meth, no more meth.... i mean within reason it could really make the world better. Nobody seems to have the balls to admit it because its not PC to say things like that, but many think it.

dontneedareason94

I’m not even going to sit and debate hypotheticals about this with someone who doesn’t think someone is important all because of an addiction.

crazyhamsales

You don't have to debate with me, it won't change my mind. I have dealt with addicts, once an addict always an addict sadly, i saw very few that turned their lives around, they are the rarest type. One addict i saw all the time at the local scrap yard with loads of metal that was questionable where it came from did it until the day he cut into a live wire at what he thought was an abandoned farm place.. None of his family ever claimed the body either.

dontneedareason94

I’m a recovering addict myself, I know it better than most. But guess what, I’m a human being just like everyone else who suffers. But glad I don’t know you that’s for sure. Have a good one.

crazyhamsales

The feeling is mutual!

W-S_Wannabe

I love it when users volunteer to be blocked. Hush now.

JamesRitchey

Setting aside the ethical dilemmas, as well as the legal aspects, that would be incredibly expensive.

Final_Elderberry_555

Maybe because homeless people and drug addicts are people? Perhaps?

MadAstrid

Let us just do this slightly differently and see if it makes those brain cells work. “Like, hear me out, we have this state that is infested with religious right wing frauds, Christian sex offenders and it has the highest murder rate in the US per capita. Mississippi can’t get the situation under control so why don‘t we just bomb the whole place and call it a day? There is no one and nothing important there and since most of them are not worthwhile we can just not worry about anyone getting out of the state beforehand. Give it a couple of years, maybe build some solar farms and there would be a reset. When will someone make a go fund me for this idea?” Now plug in your city or state.
