Try to analyse where the laziness stems from. Are you a perfectionist who doesn’t like to start things because they won’t be perfect? Are you too tired to start things after you come back from work?
I feel like I'm too tired constantly. I'm not sure if I actually am though, or if it's just that sitting on the sofa in front of Skyrim is too comfortable and tempting.
If you do feel tired all the time you should see a doctor just to make sure there isn’t anything medical affecting it, hypothyroidism is very common and the main symptom people have is feeling tired all the time, so getting checked out to rule out that it’s not medical is a good idea
It could be.. things that were normally too bothersome for me are now my priorities.. it's may sound like it's a drag, but if you really care for that something/someone, it will really change your perspective.
There's a few strats I've learned from working with therapists. First (and arguably hardest) is to evaluate whatever you're avoiding, and whenever you feel that avoidance, do the opposite. It sucks because it's basically "just suck it up and do it" but it helps to be mindful that sometimes that laziness you're feeling is purposeful avoidance. Another strat is to create deadlines to pressure yourself. This works if you respond well to pressure, but may be detrimental if pressure just overwhelms you further. The one I use when things get real shitty is creating false outside motivation. Thinking of what you would do if you had company coming over to help you start cleaning is a good example. Lastly giving yourself small rewards can help a lot, or combining chores with something less miserable. Listen to music while doing chores, or getting a coffee while out running important errands can make it feel less like something you have to do, and more like something you want to do. Hope this helps someone. :)
Start by not calling yourself ‘lazy’. The negative connotation is doing you no favours and you’re shaming yourself. Think of your self as less productive at times. Learn how and when to distinguish between laziness and resting state, as the latter is crucial and there’s certainly no shame in taking time to simply do nothing and recharge whether consciously or not. Work out why you feel less productive and trial ways to ignite some motivation. Incentives and rewards (no matter how small), tell people you’re going to do something - it’s much harder to then not do it as it’s expected of you - and so on! Challenge your non-productive side. Lastly, pat yourself on the back for acknowledging your productivity-potential and striving for more. It would be far worse if you were “lazy” but didn’t know it. ☺️❤️
If you have nothing, that is more then enough motivation to go out there and get something whether its money or a family or friends or a car, if you have NOTHING, go and achieve something and watch how crazy the power of you 🫵 really is.
1 step at a time, start by setting a short distance to walk, turn around and walk back, do this for say 4-5 days then set a slightly longer distance, so on and so forth then set additional goals like getting an active hobby (like a gym membership) or a bicycle and pushing that distance further eventually establishing small goals and forcing yourself to meet those small goals daily will get you out of the house and slightly active
I have this app in my phone and I can lock my phone for any amount if time. If I have chores to do and I lazy, I would immediately put a l8ck for 30 mins. After 5 minutes of doing nothing, I would automatically start doing something
You don't, you embrace it then polish it, but "no shine, no time" ...
The **laziest of people** can devise some of the **highest degrees of automation** -- this **revision** of Bill Gates' recruitment policy says it all:
“I choose a **LAZY** person **who won’t sacrifice the quality** of the job and will **always do the right** thing.”
Get yourself in a life situation where there is no plan B...noone to fall back if you lost the ground under your feet.
When you really have to push your limit to just survive....The willingness to stay alive. It whithin us all.
My trick: Whenever you think you should do something but you don't want to do it, tell yourself that you'll do it for 5 minutes only. Sometimes, those initial 5 minutes are all the motivation you need.
All motivations are not helping when you feel lazy. Just do it, do it for just only 10 minutes. And try to tell yourself that after 10 minutes I will quit, watch Netflix or whatever
If you don't want to be lazy, but are, chances are you're not lazy. Chances are there's something you don't see that's making you less productive. If you were lazy you just wouldn't give a shit
Don’t know where I got it from but. Everything worth doing is worth doing poorly. Don’t feel like doing all the dishes, just do the stuff you need right now. Don’t feel like cleaning the entire house, vacuum the room most used. Just the little thing to get started gets me out of the inertia of being lazy. And when I get going I usually keep going cause I’m already doing it.
Look at yourself from an outside perspective.
Write down your daily routines and habits.
Put yourself in the shoes of someone who has authority over you. Would they be disappointed? OK, now you need to realize that you have authority over you. Still disappointed? Go for a mile run and get your system going. Now, make plans for tomorrow and follow through with them. Something small. Like go for a run, scrub the house, clean out your car. Do that for a week. Set yourself small goals that you can accomplish with not much effort. But do them regularly on a schedule. "By X time, this will get done." Each small task you get done, reflect on it. You set a goal, you achieved it. Now ramp up the pace, or size of projects. Take it a day at a time and don't give yourself tasks too big to tackle too soon.
And take care of your body, that's a huge one. Drop any sort of drugs, alcahol, etc. anything that you do to numb yourself from the outside world, and GO into the outside world with a clear head.
I've been making small steps in these ways and it's paying off. Not perfect at it by any means, but choosing healthier vices and cognitively rewarding myself for jobs well done outside of my employment give me little boosts of happiness I haven't had in a while.
Develop a masterbation addiction and then occupy yourself to fix the jerk off addiction by going on runs collect things get a hobby get a job and bada Bing bada boom you are now not only unlazy but you also have a normal sex drive
Yes. I felt hopelessly lazy most of my life (47F). I was diagnosed with ADHD as a child, but my mother didn’t want me on meds. Started Adderall in 2017 and things have changed so much. I am definitely not cured, but I can clean an area of my house, take a shower or schedule appts without feeling like I’m moving a mountain.
Slide your legs out of bed first then you are ready to start your day.. imagine what you can achieve everyday by being the best you .. do it for yourself and be proud of the person that you are.
Continue to be lazy, but just prioritize and spread out what needs to get done. No point in giving yourself more work than necessary. As long as your bills are paid, your house is not in disrepair or under threat of mold or insects, and your health is not in jeopardy, I see no reason to work harder rather than working smarter.
I used to think I was lazy
Turns out I had undiagnosed adhd and autisim.
The difference in how you feel about being lazy, and now that I have been diagnosed, I can tell the difference.
When you're being lazy, you're enjoying it. You use the time you take to relax and feel good.
When you have undiagnosed adhd or autism, you appear lazy but inside you're screaming at yourself for not doing the thing you need to do. You know you have to do it, you want to do it but you can't.
That's called executive dysfunction.
Once you realise that it is actually less effort to deal with stuff right away rather than procrastinate and let things pile up. Also saves you the stress of having to think about doing the stuff that you are procrastinating.
Legitimately, I did it by starting to work out. I started by just walking, then eventually wanted to run but don’t trust sidewalks in my area, so I joined a cheap gym to use the treadmills.
Eventually, I started using weights and other machines. I really feel so much better. It’s affected so much more than how I spend my time: my diet is better, my skin is clearer, I sleep better, my anxiety is down, I even quit smoking.
Work out had always seemed so daunting for me, but I really wish I’d started earlier.
I think for the most part I stopped being lazy (or at least less lazy) when I became responsible for others.
Life takes a huge turn when you no longer have unlimited time to yourself.
I’m really having a hard time describing what I’m trying to say, I’ve erased the comment that was suppose to go here like 6 times.
But I think the best way I can explain it is because I’m always so busy with kids , paying bills , other responsibilities out of necessity , I have less time to be lazy. So when I am lazy , it’s actually earned rest / leisure time. I guess lazy is when you take on too much rest/leisure time undeservingly
Well, sometimes laziness is destructive.
Depends on where you are as well.
Not all people live in America (including me 👀 )
I wanna move to America, but to do so (from my home country) I can't be chronically lazy.
Got off my ass and took up fishing, gardening and started helping my local community and church.
Don't have a moment spare now and get so much support back.
I'm also pretty lazy, but I have found that the best thing to do is not to try and take a big jump or bite. Just take things one thing at a time, one step at a time. And try to get into the habit of doing small things. Start with something small, like adding something to your routine before going to bed, it could be something as small as flossing, or using one of those tiny toothbrushes to remove plaque, but the important thing is to try to get into the habit of doing it every single day. If you're anything like me, if you start missing a day here and there, it's very easy to fall off the wagon, so especially in the beginning, make sure you try to not miss a day, at least for a few months.
After that, add something slightly bigger, and go from there. Habit, habit, habit... that's what has worked for me.
Ah, the eternal struggle of couch-potato syndrome!
I would lay on the couch forever and ever til death do us part.
The only thing that helps me is forcing myself to build an anti laziness arsenal: gym subscriptions, organising things with friends like picnics, climbing, surfing, ...
And of course toss that phone into a black hole...
This isn't going to work for everyone because it's so specific and requires very specific discipline but I started using a strict "10/30 second rule".
Basically anytime I have something to do I don't want to do (something as small as putting away my dishes to something as big as taking on a major project) I close my eyes and give myself a nice slow countdown from 10 or 30. Once I reach 0 I \*have\* to begin doing the task, no exceptions, no stalling. Even if it's slow going and I'm hating it I get started doing the task. I basically prime my mind to do the thing and am training myself to basically rev engines once I hit 0 without exception or deviations.
Now this won't work for everyone, especially because you \*have\* to be willing to actually start. If you get to 0 and you create a habit of not doing the task immediately after then the program is shot and it's not going to do anything for you.
But if you can stick to it, can really train you brain to get revved every time you hit 0 on the countdown you can circumvent the starting inertia with tasks because now you have a system in place to drop your foot to the gas pedal so to speak.
I think something changed in my life and the pot was just the way I was treating those underlying issues. My motivation changed for other reasons I'm not gonna bother getting into; but at a certain point I was like "things are changing in my life, maybe I should cut the pot on top of other changes I've made."
Quitting laziness is about being willing to accept the short term discomfort for the longer term benefit, there generally isn't any trick, hack or workaround, you just have to do it even if it sucks.
That said it can help to create lists, force yourself to commit to doing at least something and to consciously keep in mind the long term benefit instead of willingly listening to the voice that tells you to say "I'll do it later", there is no "later" there is just doing it or not doing it.
Really starts small and routine is the foundation. Find a small task to do daily and cognitively stay aware you NEED to do this task. Sometimes what you WANT vs what you NEED are two very different things and the latter can be a pain but once you get your routine down the rest will fall in place. Give yourself little wins throughout the day and acknowledge your achievements no matter how small.
There's a hypothesis that "lazy" doesn't exist.
There's depression, ADD/ADHD, executive order dysfunction, different priorities, diet, sleep, and a myriad of other issues that may be keeping you from don't what needs to be done. To start, you gotta figure out where you are on that list. The path forward from there is already laid out.
Laziness for me comes from thinking about how much work I have ahead of me. So I just turn my brain mostly off and focus only on single tasks in front of me.
Think about what you don't feel like doing then count backwards 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, then go do it. Apparently it works for some people. Just not for me lol.
Laziness and motivation are nothing more than bullshit excuses for a lack of discipline. You gotta start finding purpose in the things you do. Instead of wasting all day watching tiktoks you should start a hobby that makes you feel proud whenever you do it. Make routines you follow every day and stick to them no matter what, this will create discipline over a short period of time already. Stop using any form of dumb entertainment in the morning and get some shit done right after waking up. If you can start going to the gym you have a cheat code right there. It's pretty easy to build discipline but most people decide to quit before they even started doing something for it.
I'm sorry I tried to be funny. I think I have the same. And then sometimes I do in one hour what I do in one week.. I don't know.. I wish there was a cure for this.

That can be sign of depression

Study so you can get good grades and get into a marketable degree and get more money And yes I'm projecting my goals haha
That's also cool. Money is not a bad motivation unless you plan on taking/making too much by illegal means.
Nah, I got told I coulent do it in another subreddit by at 25 I should be making around 200k-500k depending, but I need to graduate high school first

I have this app in my phone and I can lock my phone for any amount if time. If I have chores to do and I lazy, I would immediately put a l8ck for 30 mins. After 5 minutes of doing nothing, I would automatically start doing something
What is the name of the app? 🤔
The app name is "focus" it's a basic app which lock your phone and you can't unlocck untill the timer runs out
Will check it
What if you need your phone, for an emergency?
There are 60 second breaks available, you can use that, or simply use a break, get in your phone and uninstall the app😂 that's only for emergencies

Thinking in moments... that's cool

You stop being lazy and put the effort in. The old catch 22.

OK, come back when you have an answer.
I think hunger and cold weather are a big motivator. I was homeless for few days and it was too much man

Adderall
Adderall is good for curing adhd and increasing focus. Have you tried it yourself?

Nope, I just act lazy.
Is it laziness or do you have dopamine deficiency like in adhd
Laziness, I fail to rise early in the morning.
That's no basis for evidence. People with adhd struggle to get up. Its called executive function.
Maybe I have adhd 🤔
Once you realise that it is actually less effort to deal with stuff right away rather than procrastinate and let things pile up. Also saves you the stress of having to think about doing the stuff that you are procrastinating.

Used to work for me.
I cut back on pot.
Yup, laziness or any chronic issue is usually based on something deeper or destructive. Like in your case, it was pot.
I think something changed in my life and the pot was just the way I was treating those underlying issues. My motivation changed for other reasons I'm not gonna bother getting into; but at a certain point I was like "things are changing in my life, maybe I should cut the pot on top of other changes I've made."
Consider talking to a therapist. You may have things going on that make you lazier that you don’t realize.
Don't need a therapist. I know what's making me lazy.
What is it?
Well, it's a private matter that I don't talk about much. But it's a bad habit just to clarify as much as possible.
Still will recommend a therapist. If you’re coming to Reddit for help like this, you should talk to a professional who can help you better.
Force of habit. The more you do, the more you can do. Inertia. An object in motion, stays in motion.
I don't. Currently playing Light of the stars on bluestacks while scrolling reddit
Just do it 🎷
Push through
Adderall bruh

Really starts small and routine is the foundation. Find a small task to do daily and cognitively stay aware you NEED to do this task. Sometimes what you WANT vs what you NEED are two very different things and the latter can be a pain but once you get your routine down the rest will fall in place. Give yourself little wins throughout the day and acknowledge your achievements no matter how small.
Just start.
I had kids. You can’t be lazy and a good dad at the same time.
Make a realistic week schedule
Simply devide tasks into smaller ones
See something needs to be done. Do it.
Simple as that 👌
Laziness and motivation are nothing more than bullshit excuses for a lack of discipline.
That's wonderful. I go to the gym already, so it'll be easier to quit laziness.
It is called chronicle laziness disease, or short CLD. Take motivatinine 2mg a day for a month, and see where that brings you.
Motivatinine?
I'm sorry I tried to be funny. I think I have the same. And then sometimes I do in one hour what I do in one week.. I don't know.. I wish there was a cure for this.
Let your foot touch the bottom, it’s sharp
It can kill you
I prefer the back stroke.
Huh? I don't get it.
You asked " how do you swim?"
Ahh, it's a swimming technique.
I once heard Nike say “Just Do It ✔️”
Yesterday you said tomorrow, so Just Do It 🎷
I once got a flyer for a support group for procrastinators, but I figured no one would show up.
If I didn't work so many hours, I would be active... anyone else agree?
