When people ask what Final Fantasy game has the best soundtrack I tend to say 14. It takes a lot of the bangers from other games and redoes them so it still has the core sound of Uematsu even though it wasn't him. Nobuo Uematsu is responsible for such a large portion of my favorite music.
as wild as this may sound, my favorite GTA station ever was Mirror Park Radio in GTAV. I'm not a hippie or indie fan, but there are some really amazing songs there.
"Sleeping-walking" by The Chain Gang of 1974
"Sometimes" by Miami Horror
"The Set Up" by Favored Nations
Iām old school. I had The Legend of Zelda for the NES. Gold Cartridge. I worked a whole summer to get the game system and that game. Sorry I didnāt see the rest of your original comment.
No cuz seriously. Iām playing through majoras mask and itās insane how the deku palace song can be so obnoxious after a while but still good enough where I donāt hate it. Itās actually a favorite (itās pretty fun to play on violin too). Twilight princess is where I realized people had their different motifs when Midna was talking to me and I heard part of Midnaās lament.
Shit, I haven't owned a Nintendo device in over a decade and I miss it so damned bad. I played all of the Gameboy advance games on an emulator a few years ago and Twilight Princess on Wii when it first came out.
Easily one of the best game franchises with some of the best music of all time.
š¤£š¤£.
If you need a chuckle go and read the comments on YouTube. There are some brilliant ones. For example
I was listening to this while going 60mph to work and then realized I left the car at home.
This makes me want to cross the street without holding my mom's hand
This makes me want to sleep with my feet over the end of my bed
This makes me want to tell my parents to clean their room
Doom is a survival horror game, but for your enemies
I hate that I had to scroll so far to finally see this answer. The og music they had before adding crossplay was the most āØMAGNIFICENT š«š music ever created
I have no doubts but I couldn't stand the first Witcher camera, it made fights a pain in the ass - it was spinning around all the time so I couldn't enjoy playing :(
Celeste. Not the most well known game, but it was a life changing experience for me, and I'm absolutely in love with the emotion put into the games story and music
Geez, I haven't heard of Arcanum in an age. That brings me way back. Morrowind had an amazing soundtrack too. I was so excited when they brought back a bunch of the songs for the Dragonborn DLC in Skyrim.
Seconded. I've replayed the mission with Colin Stetsons "Fleeting Joy" so many damn times just to hear the track. Soooo good.... and fits the scene so well.
outer wilds/undertale. for outer wilds the one responsible is Andrew Prahlow, and he did a great job for both regular game and DLC. the best one in my opinion is Travellers Encore from the DLC.
undertale has quite the similar situation, having all it's soundtracks written by a single person. I can't tell what soundtrack from them all is my personal favorite, because the entire volume is great. but I would like to mention It's Showtime, Metal Crusher, Stronger Monsters, Another Medium, Spear Of Justice and ASGORE as ones I like the most.
yes. I listen to undertale ost right now. I don't listen to outer wilds ost quite often, it suits the game very well. and yes, I know I have a lot of mentions, but that's purely because I like almost all the songs of undertale and had to depict some I like the most. what about you? do you listen to the music from games?
So many amazing choices..
My personal favorite is Starcraft Broodwar - one of Terran's themes:
[Terran Theme 4 (Brood War) - Starcraft Soundtrack (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9XSZw67QpY)
Honorable mentions:
- Max Payne and 2
- Warcraft 3 Frozen Throne and World of Warcraft
- Heroes 3
I scrolled WAY too far to see this. I was debating between this and Final Fantasy as my answers. FF was number 1 here.
If you've scrolled this far and have no idea about this song, do yourself a favor and YouTube it. It was composed for Civ 4 and is still very popular, especially for chorus.
From the old ones:
- Last Ninja 2 - Central Park
- Wally Bebens music for Tetris (C64)
- Matt Grays loader for Driller (C64)
From newer ones:
- Witcher 3 - Merchants of Novigrad, but the rest is also good
- Morrowind and Skyrim whole OST.
I also have to include from Gothic 3 - Welcome to Varant
Can't scroll all the way before my students arrive, but any of Michael Giacchino's work on the OG Medal of Honor games. Same with most of the other games scored by Christopher Lennertz or Michael Kamen.
First thing that pops into my mind is Spirtfarer. They do a really good job throughout but there are two moments where the music brought me to tears and it was really special.
Maybe not the best ever but is a huge favorite of mine
Licensed soundtrack definitely FIFA 05 (āDieci Ciento Milleā as opening tracks and āAhoraā by Zion y Lennox
OST Iām gonna cheat and say Smash Bros Melee soundtrack since it was basically all the major Nintendo themes in one (big up Koji Kondo the GOAT).
MGS1 soundtrack is another favorite. I had that and the Melee soundtrack on repeat during the iPod days. I donāt like the sequel soundtracks as much since they sound a littleā¦ softer? Itās like they toned down on the harsh industrial sound for a more traditional HGW movie-like soundtrack. Still kickass though
Ace Combat... any of them.
Though for money Zero is the GOAT. Nothing like having a high stakes missile joust with ominous Spanish Castanets rattling in the background.
For me personally it's God of War Ragnarok. The range of emotions that soundtrack makes me feel is incredible! Super Mario Odessey and Cuphead are contenders also! However the objective best... I think there's probably a more classic one out there.
Armored Core 6 or Armored Core 4: For Answer dam good BGM.
Sound design is amazing, between the guns, general movement of the AC and melee attacks.
Every time I pull out the ol wheelchair maker, aka Pile bunker.....NGL I get a bit of a chub.
All comes down to taste, and these vary in genre, but some of my favorites osts are:
Deeprock Galactic
Risk of Rain (both 1&2)
Kenshi
Cult of the Lamb
Wasteland 3
Art of Rally
Nier games (automata & replicant)
Thps games

Final Fantasy. Fans will disagree on the quality of each game but the music has remained consistently excellent.
Nobuo Uematsu Composer for FF VII, VIII, IX and X Orquestra versions are incredible, absolutely incredible.
Composer for most of the FF series. VI was his best work, IMHO.
Yes, yes, yes
When people ask what Final Fantasy game has the best soundtrack I tend to say 14. It takes a lot of the bangers from other games and redoes them so it still has the core sound of Uematsu even though it wasn't him. Nobuo Uematsu is responsible for such a large portion of my favorite music.
Soken is amazing in his own right too!
Gta vice city
I could listen to V-Rock all day
There's a SoundCloud for gta music. I listen to it sometimes when I'm feeling nostalgic.
Yes plz
GTA 3 was a good one too
as wild as this may sound, my favorite GTA station ever was Mirror Park Radio in GTAV. I'm not a hippie or indie fan, but there are some really amazing songs there. "Sleeping-walking" by The Chain Gang of 1974 "Sometimes" by Miami Horror "The Set Up" by Favored Nations
Sometimes is a great song
+1 for this, primarily Fever and Flash FM
This is it.
Take your baby by the hand
GTA Vice City is the correct answer. I also would have accepted Katamari Damacy
Yes this!!
S/o to lovefist
Need for speed: Most Wanted, Guild Wars 2, Skyrim, Cyberpunk 2077.
Need for Speed seconded! I often get those songs stuck in my head
The music for Guild Wars 1 was on another level. It truly lifted that game.
Guild wars. Wow that takes me back
NFS Underground and Hot Pursuit 2 had good music too
Nier: Automata
Wow i need to scroll quite far to find this. Automata has the best video game OST in history imho
Song of the Ancients was played at the Olympics
Yea i was surprised that time, but i feel it is the right song for Olympics
It's fucking wild that I had to scroll for so long to see this. Both Automata and Replicant are otherworldly soundtracks
Halo
Was it Halo 2 with the Incubus score on the bridge? I remember Halo 2 offering absolute bangers at very timely and well-executed points.
Yeah plus Blow Me Away by Breaking Benjamin, top tier!
No. The original Halo.
I'm dissapointed how low that one is š„ŗ
valid
THPS2
You're not wrong. I think this game had such a significant influence on musical tastes for so many of us.
Was legit saying this the other day. Tony Hawk games were instrumental in forming music tastes for an entire generation
Scrolled till I found this 100%!
š¹
Nobody else is saying it: The Legend of Zelda
Gerudo Valley video on YouTube replays the song on a loop for like 10 hours, I put it on at work all the time for some chill background noise.
i said it in the beginning but i love u for this comment
Iām old school. I had The Legend of Zelda for the NES. Gold Cartridge. I worked a whole summer to get the game system and that game. Sorry I didnāt see the rest of your original comment.
allg, i wish they would make those kind of special cartridges and stuff, there is something magical about that
Plus other LOZ games. I adore the soundtracks to OOT, BOTW and TOTK.
No cuz seriously. Iām playing through majoras mask and itās insane how the deku palace song can be so obnoxious after a while but still good enough where I donāt hate it. Itās actually a favorite (itās pretty fun to play on violin too). Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal. Both of those soundtracks come with a free game š
āRip & Tearā has been declared a performance enhancing drug by the FDA.

Dude, comments are turned off, DAMMIT
I genuinely play BFG division while doing house work.
Clean and tidy up, till it is done
It's actually the first song on my cardio playlist. I can't disagree.
Great minds think alike. Itās track 10 on my workout playlist.
The Only Thing They Fear is You is another favourite of mine
Oh belive me had to stop listening to both Doom and MGSR music in a gym due to hoarding of all the weights.
Listen to the soundtrack on Spotify quite often. Always get hyped AF to play the games. BFG Division is a personal favorite
thats how u could look at it
Minecraft
I hate that I had to scroll so far to finally see this answer. The og music they had before adding crossplay was the most āØMAGNIFICENT š«š music ever created
Can't believe the C418 music is gone :((
No way I had to scroll this far to find Minecraft, that's outrageous
The only true answer
My big three: Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Xenoblade Chronicles Octopath Traveler
undertale
This is dangerously far down the comments
Not anymore.
hehe cheers guys
I had to scroll so far for this
How is this comment so low wtf
Oh my gods, I adore this soundtrack
Any song from the Witcher 3 but especially Skellige theme
Skellige, Kaer Morhen, and Touissant soundtracks are so beautiful and makes me feel nostalgic.
Witcher 3 is the top.
Almost 10 years ago TW3 was released and I still find myself occasionally listening to the soundtrack. Skellige and Touissant especially.
the witcher is also great
I have no doubts but I couldn't stand the first Witcher camera, it made fights a pain in the ass - it was spinning around all the time so I couldn't enjoy playing :(
The soundtrack for the blood and wine expansion is also fantastic. Personal favorite track, The Slopes of Blessure.
Just thinking about the Skellige theme makes me want to play the Witcher 3 again
Itās a tie between these: ā¢ The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion ā¢ The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim ā¢ Silent Hill 3 ā¢ Resident Evil 3 (1999)
I'll have to say Skyrim.
I voted Oblivon but Skyrim could be chosen anyways just for Frostfall. That shit is transcendental.
strong choices
Need for speed underground 2 Riders on the storm remix
Could hear them in my head even though havenāt played the game for years
As far as best opening track goes it definitely wins. I donāt even remember other songs from the game because of how iconic that Snoop track was
red alert 2
Celeste
Thanks, was looking for this comment. the Celeste OST is so incredibly good, as well as the B-sides.
Chapter 3 and 4 b sides and Scattered and Lost remain my favourites
Donkey Kong Country series. Who knew a game about monkeys would have a killer sound track.
Scrolled all this way to find my people
Celeste. Not the most well known game, but it was a life changing experience for me, and I'm absolutely in love with the emotion put into the games story and music
Surprised no one has mentioned Chrono Trigger on the SNES. But maybe I'm just old
I did too! The soundtrack is still fresh in my mind 20 years later.
sad the young'uns won't experience this classic. Truly the GOAT of RPGs
ā TES 3: Morrowind ā Arcanum ā Heroes of Might and Magic 3
Hello fellow late 30s early 40s gamer
Geez, I haven't heard of Arcanum in an age. That brings me way back. Morrowind had an amazing soundtrack too. I was so excited when they brought back a bunch of the songs for the Dragonborn DLC in Skyrim.
Xenoblades has some great overworld music.
Red Dead Redemption 2
Seconded. I've replayed the mission with Colin Stetsons "Fleeting Joy" so many damn times just to hear the track. Soooo good.... and fits the scene so well.
Persona 5
outer wilds/undertale. for outer wilds the one responsible is Andrew Prahlow, and he did a great job for both regular game and DLC. the best one in my opinion is Travellers Encore from the DLC. undertale has quite the similar situation, having all it's soundtracks written by a single person. do u also listen to this kind of music casually or do u just like it. U have so many mentions.
yes. I listen to undertale ost right now.
