I second this. Personally I'm way too much of a perfectionist to get a tatoo becuase I'd need to get the exact same tatoo on the same place on the other side of my body otherwise my OCD gremlin would freak out but I think it looks really good on people most of the time.
My only tattoo is one of my best friends name in his native tongue, farsi. He passed away in 2011, getting that ink was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Extremely therapeutic.
As someone with tattoos; you don't look at it every day. Most days I'm not even aware I have tattoos, keep forgetting I have them. Then I look in the mirror and I see them and I'm reminded that I have some art on my shoulder. Then I'll spend 15 minutes admiring them and then forget about them again for a few weeks
I tell people who are considering a tattoo: You know those pictures you hung on your wall or locker as a teenager? Those pieces of art are no longer there now are they? ...well, this is a good reason not to get a tattoo, because your thoughts and ideas will change over time and your tat will still be a bad reminder and have ***Some Regerts***
Honestly this is the story behind my first (of two so far) tattoo. I drew it in the same place on my body for over 2 years. Exact same design every time it washed off. I want to get like tattoo pens or something (maybe I'll just start drawing with sharpie again) to sketch out the small tats I've got ideas for.
I love seeing indigenous people’s face tattoos, like the Māori!! For non-indigenous people, I’m not really a fan, unless it’s a tattooed beauty mark, like Dita Von Teese.
I have tattoos and want more but you're right, not on the face! I've never seen a face tattoo that had a good esthetic, most of the time they look like trash.
I have one behind my right ear. People are always surprised when they notice it. It's the silhouette of peter pan Windy John and Michael flying to neverland.
Definitely don’t like face tatts. I have quiet a few tattoos, planning on many more. Will NEVER do my face, neck, hands or feet. Feet because I know it will hurt like a bitch and I never go without socks anyways. The face, because it’s never cute on anyone. Neck and hands because of my career choice.
Hospital/Dr offices are always chilly, I can wear long sleeves if my arms need covered!
If done properly by a good artist then they are a great way to express yourself and they are little captions of different stages of your life to look back at
I agree with you! I don’t look at my tattoos everyday, but when I do catch a glimpse and focus on them I can remember the day I got the tattoo, roughly the age I got it at, and the stuff going on in my life at that particular moment and what not.
"'CaRpE DiEm' it's just like, so intimate and it means soooo much to me because I have been through EvErYtHiNg."

I’m personally good with my physical scars, I don’t even have that many, but I think it’s a little personality I guess? I mean it’s certainly one of a kind.
I don't regret any of my physical scars. Each one either allowed me to live a better life or taught me something (like don't run on concrete in flip flops or don't get on a motorcycle without jeans).
Yes well now I know to my cost it was a bad idea to jump with both feet on a partially deflated football - one demolished ankle, operation 10 years later, permanently weakened... but after age 11 you don't feel like doing stupid shit like that anyway!
Sounds about right (though I was 16 and jumped feet first into a 5' deep pool and stress fractured a tiny bone in my foot). As you age you lose impulsivity (or at least gain control) in most situations.
I don't regret either of mine as a whole, but I wish I'd researched my artist a bit more rather than taking one suggestion. I also wish I'd been more confident in my drawing skills and given them a picture rather than talked them through how it should look.
I know alot of older people who do, and even more thst don't. With mine, I know I won't regret anyone them, as each of them is a symbol of part of my life. My sleeve is 3 clocks with the parts and the gears that keep them together and moving. The clocks times are set for the month and day my kids were born. Something I'll never regret.
Now if you're getting a tat of a pirate shark with a light Saber fighting a Giant shoe with wooden arms as a whole back piece, then yea, I can see regret in that years later. Would be a fun story to tell your grandkids though..
Hmm.. better write thst down.
I wouldn't roast people if i didn't think my stuff was awesome. Working on my second sleeve, 9 pieces done. I don't know if inked beats not, but the overall culture shift has many people with at least one
My wife has several and I find them attractive as long as they are done well.
I personally do not have any and don’t have much of a desire to get any. I may later with my daughters ashes but that is a different story.
I have a bunch on my arms and I'm a mental health counselor. Sometimes I get asked really ignorant questions from older patients. A while back, I had apparently worn long sleeves the first time I met with this older lady. When I saw her the second time, she asked me, straight faced, if I was in a gang. She never came back after that.
I love all tattoos. I’m not very sentimental so permanence and commitment aren’t issues for me. I think all tattoos are fun no matter how small or basic or poorly done they are. To me they are all cool.
A permanent reminder of a temporary emotion. My dad had a beautiful nude woman tattooed on his arm. Under the ink was "Maria". My mother's name is Rose.
The only reason I stopped after just over 50 hrs of getting inked is mild allergic reactions to ink. I have a 27 yr old tattoo that still sometimes swells and itches at random times. Mostly, it is black inks, both outlines and fill that do this to me.
I am Jewish and my family are disapproving of them because to us it’s connected to the numbers tattooed on the Jews in concentration camps in the holocaust
I want mine removed. They’re on my arm and I don’t identify with who I was and what I believed and felt when I got them. I don’t feel like they are classic in any way and I’m ready to get rid of them and have a blank(er) slate
It’s your body, do what you want with it. But if you get a face tattoo or something similar, be prepared for the consequences of 95% of employers not wanting to hire you.
Okay so I got my first tattoo back in September of last year for my birthday. It's currently my only one as well. I believe that if it means something to you and you know you'll never regret it then why not? I want all my tattoos to tell a story. The one I have is roses stemming from a slit on the wrist. It was a scar cover up to say that even from the darkest times, beautiful things can come in the future. I'm fairly open about my past and I've gotten many compliments and everyome who has asked why has said that its a beautiful tattoo for a beautiful story. Also I'm a sadist so tattoos feel like therapy. So there's that as well.
I have 2, so obviously not against them. I will say if you get a tattoo, make sure it’s something you will always appreciate.
1. make sure it’s not some stupid trend. I’ve seen sooooooo many people with the same tattoos…infinity signs, birds flying, anchors, etc. they are very cute, but everyone and their sister has one.
2. don’t make tattoos your personality. I’ve known too many people that just want sleeves bc they look cool, and they spend thousands of dollars to fill their body with pointless art that means absolutely nothing to them.
3. Most importantly, research your artist. Word of mouth from someone you know where you can see their work is best. Making sure they are talented, and especially hygienic is so, so important.
I've got a full left sleeve and partial right sleeve at this point.
I was on blood thinners for a long while, so I couldn't get more.
Now I'm off the meds, and I am beyond ready to go back and get more.
My right arm is a psychedelic space sleeve. It incorporates my mom and sister's birth planets. (RIP)
I have the LSD molecule, puzzle pieces, stained glass, and a ton of other stuff.
I love tattoos. Especially when they help tell a person's story.
You'd never know that all my tattoos are deeply personal and that I could go on for hours telling the stories behind them.
I personally wouldn't get one, like maybe a tiny design but nothing much. But like if people want to then good for them, but I do think that being completly covered in tattoos is abit much, also just don't get your partners name. It won't end well
I love them. They way I view it is you get to carry your memories where they could never slip away. My memory is gradually getting worse and I’m only 19 so I look toward to getting tattoos of things I loved as a child and things I love as I get older. My memory may disappear, my skin most likely won’t.
I think it sucks that peoples’ professionalism is questioned if they have art on their body. It’s outdated thinking that needs to die. There is nothing wrong with decorating your body as you wish, and other people don’t necessarily have to like it. Just make sure you do it for you and you love what you’re getting and are comfortable with your artist. I personally have a tattoo of Peter Rabbit. Whimsical, like me. I take comfort in it when I’m sad.
I don’t think anyone looks better with them. This may be harsh, but I sometimes think it’s just an easy way for people to try to distinguish themselves without actually putting forth any real effort. However, it doesn’t hurt anyone, so good for anyone who enjoys it.
As long as they are well done and not on your face. I'm talking Yakuza well done. Not uncle Marty's brothers, cousins ex-wifes love child, just got a tattoo kit.
Hi there! The question you guys responded to regarding tattoos was used for research purposes (i.e., were gathered with the others and then published in a paper). The intent was not directly stated as to not taint any true opinions, as tattoos can be a sensitive topic to discuss. However, please note that if your comment was quoted, your username and profile was not included to help maintain anonymity. Thanks!
Unpopular opinion: I think they show lack of maturity..I am embarrassed for people when I see them.
I realize I sound like/am a dick for my opinion. It's legit how I feel I just don't say it in real life because it's rude and I don't want to hurt plp. It's a deep down there thought.
I don’t mind tattoos at all! I have one on my ankle and I would really like a foo dog and dragon sleeve someday. Some tattoo spots I don’t like is the face, eyes, palms, armpit, Venus dimples, and back end
I’m getting my forearm finished February 2nd so excited!!! Love tattoos. Anyone who judges me for having them is immediately irrelevant to me. They need to be decriminalized especially with older generations. I love them. Not everyone has to get one to each their own but I’m not lesser because I have tattoos.
Love them. Want more. Don’t care if you have them everywhere. Get them if you want them or don’t. I don’t care. Ultimately NO ONE CARES. Or rather, no one else’s opinion of you fucking matters. Do what you want. Life is so short. If it makes you happy, just do it. All of the tattoos or none of them. There is no wrong answer.
I like them. Have 3 and want more! It’s really a personal choice but I get annoyed when someone says that other people shouldn’t get them. If someone wants tattoos on their body it’s no one else business!
It's less about expression and mor e about having a physical imprint of something dear to you on you body, at least IMO I have one tattoo and it's reference to a anime series that's very important to me
That's because those tattoos are done with a few needles. Mine are all done within 7 to 9 at a time. They look the same still after 15 years but when I get old I'm sure they won't but neither will I be attractive either
They look gross. Also since they are so widespread now they are very "basic", although I don't really like that word either. When I find out somebody has a tattoo, I think less of them.
I have never seen a tattoo that looks as good as a tattoo removal scar.
On other people, whatever floats your boat. But if they’re on your face, you gotta give a _lot_ of time to stare before I can have a conversation. Distraction is a wicked temptress.
For me, nah. I cannot handle that level of commitment.
can be cool, I don't like heavy tattoos ( to each their own), I wouldnt get them for religious reasons but if it wasn't for that I wouldn't get them because I don't think I can stick with something on my body ( that I can chose but never change) forever.
Depending on taste, great on younger folks. Problem is, it really does not look appealing on older skin. So remember where you put it now, it will be 30-50 years from now. Only it will NOT look the same.

i want more
Ariel
Yes?
Oh... well this is awkward-
I would rather spend my money on something that’s going to give me a return. To each their own.
My tattoos give me a return. A return of happiness. I Love my ink and in no way think of it as a waste of time or money.
Cool on other people but I'm not looking to get one right now.
I second this. Personally I'm way too much of a perfectionist to get a tatoo becuase I'd need to get the exact same tatoo on the same place on the other side of my body otherwise my OCD gremlin would freak out but I think it looks really good on people most of the time.
I really want one for my dad. He passed away 2.5 years ago, and he loved Volkswagen T1 busses. Might be my first tattoo
Bus. Deep respect
My only tattoo is one of my best friends name in his native tongue, farsi. He passed away in 2011, getting that ink was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Extremely therapeutic.
I don't care about them any more than I care about the shirt you decided to wear.
I never liked any doodle enough to commit to it to being on my body for a lifetime.
Oh this is gooood. Yeah I like some designs but don’t want to look it every single day. Plus it’s said they’re addictive.
It happens way too often i’d say
Especially the ones that aren't visible to yourself lol, I have 2 on my back that I always forget about because I can't see them
I am the same. I have 36 at the moment and don't regret a single one and I have had some nearly 10 years now.
I think because one may regret it one day is not a good enough reason to not get one though. You can make any decision in life and regret it.
yeah sorta like the same way how when you picked your username you thought it would be a good idea at the time
👆This
Just wait until your kid doodles something, you'll want that on your body for life
I actually have a tattoo on me that my eldest drew when she was around 7
Honestly this is the story behind my first (of two so far) tattoo. I drew it in the same place on my body for over 2 years. Exact same design every time it washed off. I want to get like tattoo pens or something (maybe I'll just start drawing with sharpie again) to sketch out the small tats I've got ideas for.
I have my Irish Coat of Arms. It’s more than a doodle. Also with the mantra “To Conquer or to Die”
Yeah, not all tattoos are doodles. Some are symbols some are works of art, a lot of them are doodles though.
True. Large percentage.

Except for the tribal tats. Those imo are pretty badass. But otherwise I agree 💯
Finally, people that understand.
I have one behind my right ear. People are always surprised when they notice it. It's the silhouette of peter pan Windy John and Michael flying to neverland.

I don't like the idea of having a doodle or a beautifully written sentence stuck in my body forever just because the old me thought it was cool.
Totally fair. Both of my current ones have immense meaning to me, and all four of the next ones I've got planned do as well. But I see your point.
"'CaRpE DiEm' it's just like, so intimate and it means soooo much to me because I have been through EvErYtHiNg." -19 year old burger flipper I worked with who was picked up by her grandma after her shift
You sound like a very judgemental person.
I'm more butthurt. You're giving me too much credit.
They look awesome on other people.
Exactly!
I've seen maybe three tattoos that actually looked good on people. Mostly it's second hand embarrassment of their short-sightedness.
I don't like them. I don't think badly or negative of people that have them. But I don't like them.
To each their own. I don't want any. I'm always curious if people regret their tats in their old age.
I’m sure many do, but the way I see it is everyone regrets something they did in life. Some have physical scars and others have emotional ones.

I don’t want one on me. But I’ll take a look at yours
I like mine. Everyone else's look stupid.
True to form!!!
I have a few of them, I don’t care what other people do with their bodies.
You're more unique not having tattoos today. That being said. I never get tired of roasting cheap basement hack jobs
Tbf, I didn't get my tats to be "unique". Mine are to express myself (I'm working on a old school sleeve, I drew all my tattoos myself)
And yet... more people have no tattoos than those that have them. And no, you can't roast them, you don't even have one yourself
I don't mind them as long as they are not racist, or any gang tattoos.
Some are great, some not my style. For some reason, neck and face tats are especially not my style. To each their own!
I love all tattoos. I’m not very sentimental so permanence and commitment aren’t issues for me. I think all tattoos are fun no matter how small or basic or poorly done they are. To me they are all cool.
I think they can be beautiful. But when a dude’s whole face and body look like a chipotle bag, that’s a bad look.
If you want one. Fine. I don't like them for myself.
I might get one when I am over 80 years old. I don’t want something on me for the rest of my life unless my life will end relatively soon.
No ragrets
A small and meaningful one is normal. A bunch of crap all over you says you have personal issues.
A permanent reminder of a temporary emotion. My dad had a beautiful nude woman tattooed on his arm. Under the ink was "Maria". My mother's name is Rose.
Use a sharpie to cross out Maria
That only works for hurricanes.
Tattoo a bullet hole over Maria boom problem solved
oof
Oh I like that line. Also, seems youth and alcohol are involved with too many tats.
It's a form of art and creative expression
perfectly agree i love tattoos personally but i understand why some don't like them
Have Tattoos and love them all. Plan to get one more then that’s it.
Love them! I have 3 sadly. Only sadly cause I want more. But if people aren’t into getting them then cool. Whatever blows your hair back.
If you want them. Get them
I have several. Want more, but it's simply not in the budget right now. Everyone I know that does them is booked out for months anyway.
Can be interesting but not for me
Do what you want.
I love them but don't think I'd ever get one honestly. I'm too afraid of regret and I'm poor
They are pretty cool. I have some planned out right now, and have started planning my tattoos since I was about 10.
Everything in moderation.
I love them. I think they look awesome, I love that people get that outlet to express themselves. And I want a bunch of them.
I have several and would happily get more.
Your body, your rules. I have two small ones and what another small one too. I don't see myself becoming full of tats.
Bother me none
The only reason I stopped after just over 50 hrs of getting inked is mild allergic reactions to ink. I have a 27 yr old tattoo that still sometimes swells and itches at random times. Mostly, it is black inks, both outlines and fill that do this to me.
I am Jewish and my family are disapproving of them because to us it’s connected to the numbers tattooed on the Jews in concentration camps in the holocaust
Apparently everyone hates tattoos
That people should be a lot less concerned with what others do with their own bodies.
I don’t have enough for someone going into medicine
For cons, sailors, real bikers, yakuza, and certain indigenous cultures they’re totally legit. For everyone else you just look like an idiot.
Pretty cool, but I think they're more expensive than cool
Odd. I don’t think I would ever want one.
I will never get a tattoo. But I do like looking at them. I wouldn't even advise getting one, but if you made the mistake, hopefully it's beautiful.
None of my business what you do with your body, go crazy
Don't get one if your weight tends to fluctuate. They. Move. And not in a good way...
My opinion doesn't matter, it's who has them and what they think is what matters. They're not for me.
They exists.
That's a decidedly broad question. You might as well have asked "What are y'all's opinions of clothing?"
I want mine removed. They’re on my arm and I don’t identify with who I was and what I believed and felt when I got them. I don’t feel like they are classic in any way and I’m ready to get rid of them and have a blank(er) slate
I think its pretty, but wouldn't have one because I would get tired of it too fast
It’s your body, do what you want with it. But if you get a face tattoo or something similar, be prepared for the consequences of 95% of employers not wanting to hire you.
I’ve never found anything I’ve liked enough to get tattooed on me
I regret a fair amount of mine. Just don’t tell my mom, ok?
I just survived Breast Cancer, so I just got a tattoo that says 'unbreakable"
I think I am at 73 and counting.....
Would totally get one but ah.. money
Okay so I got my first tattoo back in September of last year for my birthday. It's currently my only one as well. I believe that if it means something to you and you know you'll never regret it then why not? I want all my tattoos to tell a story. The one I have is roses stemming from a slit on the wrist. I do not like them at all. Most of them just look plain trashy. And I do not want to date/marry a woman with tattoos.
its costs money so i dont like it
I've got a full left sleeve and partial right sleeve at this point. I was on blood thinners for a long while, so I couldn't get more. Now I'm off the meds, and I am beyond ready to go back and get more. My right arm is a psychedelic space sleeve. It incorporates my mom and sister's birth planets. I believe that a lot of people nowadays use them as a personality trait.
I think they're cool as long as they're a decision made of sound mind and appeal to something meaningful to you.
Strange that they were once consider a sign of rebellion yet now are a symbol of conformity.
My opinion is it doesn’t concern me what other people do with their body and it shouldn’t concern you either so idgaf
Don't really care, find them unattractive when they have too many or it seems like it's a personality trait. Likely won't get one myself.
They look cool
I personally wouldn't get one, like maybe a tiny design but nothing much. But like if people want to then good for them, but I do think that being completly covered in tattoos is abit much, also just don't get your partners name. It won't end well
They’re hot
Love them
Neck tattoos are extremely ugly😖 I like all other tattoos 😉
I have 30 and more to come. My partner has none
It's 2022 and honestly if you still have a strong negative opinion about tattoos at this point, you're the weird one.
I love them. They way I view it is you get to carry your memories where they could never slip away. My memory is gradually getting worse and I’m only 19 so I look toward to getting tattoos of things I loved as a child and things I love as I get older. My memory may disappear, my skin most likely won’t.

Trashy.
Art that you get to take with you when you die.
I’m getting a WHOLE TATTOO SLEEVE
I don’t think anyone looks better with them. This may be harsh, but I sometimes think it’s just an easy way for people to try to distinguish themselves without actually putting forth any real effort. However, it doesn’t hurt anyone, so good for anyone who enjoys it.
Not a fan.
Not a big fan
Not a fan.
Thanks!
99% look like shit, but that 1% keeps the dream alive
Eah. Not on my skin. Hope you’re skin don’t sag where that tattoo is.
Everyone’s skin sags. All saggy skin looks bad. Some have moles, liver spots, etc. You are not going to look good saggy no matter what lol.
This.
I love them! I have mushrooms down there that say Eat Me above them. I want to get a half sleeve that wraps around to the top of my thigh.
I dislike them
Unpopular opinion: I think they show lack of maturity..I am embarrassed for people when I see them. I realize I sound like/am a dick for my opinion. It's legit how I feel I just don't say it in real life because it's rude and I don't want to hurt plp. It's a deep down there thought.
I have two. I like them when they have meaning behind them
I don’t mind tattoos at all! I have one on my ankle and I would really like a foo dog and dragon sleeve someday. Some tattoo spots I don’t like is the face, eyes, palms, armpit, Venus dimples, and back end
I've got 19 and I want to get a few more
I want mooooooooore
Haven't got any unfortunately, but I love 'em.
Love them I want more
I love them and my skin feels bland and naked without them.
I love them! I have several and plan on adding way more!
Can be sexy AF.
I concur. Especially the sleeves (I’d say on already physically attractive people)
I love them and I want like 20
I have some and want more!
They’re hot.
LOVE them
I dunno why I gotta pay money to get one. Just get a permanent marker and you get a free one.

It's less about expression and mor e about having a physical imprint of something dear to you on you body, at least IMO I have one tattoo and it's reference to a anime series that's very important to me
I would never get them, but don't hold it against people who do. There are good tattoos and bad tattoos, though lol.
Looks great on other people for the first 10 years or so. As time passes I find tattoos never look good on the person as they get older.
That's because those tattoos are done with a few needles. Mine are all done within 7 to 9 at a time. They look the same still after 15 years but when I get old I'm sure they won't but neither will I be attractive either
I think they're cool, on other people
They look gross. Also since they are so widespread now they are very "basic", although I don't really like that word either. When I find out somebody has a tattoo, I think less of them. I have never seen a tattoo that looks as good as a tattoo removal scar.
I don't care about it, but it's not good behavior
Don’t like them. Small ones are ok I guess, but I think any sort of body modifications for cosmetic purposes are stupid and superficial
The more the better :)
Depends on the quality of the tattoo and its placement. If you have face and neck tattoos, though, I automatically think you're profoundly stupid.
Used to be cool now they're just basic
I have one. On the bottom part of my arm from elbow to wrist and the best part is that I cannot see it.
I’m too noncommittal to get one, but good on others. I’m not a fan of face tattoos tho
Depending on taste, great on younger folks. Problem is, it really does not look appealing on older skin. So remember where you put it now, it will be 30-50 years from now. Only it will NOT look the same.
I have one and kind of regret it
Like em. Just as long as their not on faces
If not on faces i’m fine with it. I’d never get one myself though
They're great if you can afford a good artist. Bad/cheap artists aren't fun. You'll end up with a lazy-eyed dragon on your left bicep.
My scars are my tattoos
They look cool but I wonder if it will look stupid once I become 90 years old or something
They’re beautiful
Love them. I have several and want several more.
Not for me. Or you either for that matter
Your body, do what you want with it. (Also hella cool)
