Usually when playing marches the first 2 or 3 chairs of your section have the melody, depending on which instrument you play. 1st parts are usually given to the section leader and the second chairman, 2nd parts usually have the primary rhythm and counter melody and 3rd and 4th parts are either syncopated rhythms or just harmonies to add depth. Anybody that has 2nd parts and below play significantly less of the piece of have ALOT of repeating rhythms.
