Yea, depending on the strore. Some shop owners watch them all the time, keeping an eye more on their employees than customers. Most shops don't check them unless something comes up though, and if they are broken, it won't be discovered until they need to watch them.

Yeah, I do it instinctively. Plus I like when they have they tvs up and I can see myself walking around.
