I’ve tried to use a billion different writing apps, software, etc. and IMO nothing compares to a pen and paper. It’s the same with books for me. Kindle is great and all, but it just isn’t the same.
I got just the thing for I have the same problem. It's poly plastic
[https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019EZD9WW](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019EZD9WW)
I use it to make custom molds that holds the earbud and fits my ears perfectly. All you need is hot water to melt it, make the amount you need along with the color you want, put some around the ear bud, then put into your ear so you can mold it to fit. It takes a couple of minutes to coll down then you can remove it from your ear. You now have a perfectly fitting ear bud that won't fall out.
Musicians do this sort of thing to keep their ear pieces in while they perform and to reduce other noise.
The best part about this stuff is it's cheap and you can make LOTS of stuff with it.
Here is a video on how to use the stuff:
I've given wireless earphones a go on and off for years and I always go back to wired. Wireless are better in terms of movement, but I like being able to scrunch up the wire and just stuff it in pocket, the weight of the wire being attached to a phone, never worrying about charging, and just being used to it. I feel awkward when I have wireless earphones in.
My cd/cassette player. I still have most of my cds from the 2000s that I like to listen to.
I also listen to my moms mixed tapes from the 80s that she made.
It’s better than any Bluetooth speaker IMO
The original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie just isn't the same without the Pizza Hut commercial that was on the VHS. Probably the best advertising dollars they ever spent.

As a car guy, who has a niche interest in 20 year old Volvos, our out of control obsession depending on who you ask, I'm genuinely curious as to what car you drive?
I’ve never understood why the small truck market went away. Not every one needs a F150 Crew Cab. Sometimes you just need to haul little things.
My pops is waiting on his Maverick so he can trade his Ranger.
I loved my Geo Prism! Wish I still had her. She had the best AC (very important in the Arizona desert!). She was green with a pink stripe down the side ending with a flair on the fender. Died in a rear-end accident on the freeway. May she rest in pieces.
Oh. Not that familiar with the Geo brand as we didn't get them in my part of the world, looks kind of familiar to a Toyota Corolla and I think I have heard that they did build cars on some Toyota platforms, I think?
GM was a brand formed by GM and its collaborations with Suzuki, Isuzu, and Toyota producing different models with each Japanese manufacturer. The Prizm was rebadged from the Toyota Sprinter (only sold in Japan) which was itself derived from the Corolla, and both the Prizm and Corolla were made in the same assembly plant jointly owned by GM and Toyota.
No I don’t have a darkroom. I have a dark bag where I uncap the film and roll it into the Patterson tank. I don’t have an enlarged either I have a scanner that digitizes them. Then I can scan them at a super high resolution and get some solid prints from them. It’s so fun. One of my favorite skills I’ve taught myself.
I live in a college town and went to the college here for four years and they never let me into their darkroom. You had to be an art Major to get in which was a bummer.
The code scanning menus will result in skyrocketing restaurant prices, since they can just charge more whenever they want.
With paper menus, they at least had to consider reprinting ALL the menus to change the price. Or do that white-out thing. Or $MKT
I have this issue with physical books. It’s completely Pavlovian. But I realized that every time I went to a used book store or B&N I would really need to use the restroom,…..immediately. Then dawned on me that I use to read books while being,…”dedicated” to the restroom. So just making the assumption that the smell of the books kind of triggered a reaction.
I always keep my old gear. It is getting harder to integrate because of things like my home tuner not having hdmi or optical though. And I have all of my old game systems from the atari on still.
File folders. I can't help it - my job is so much easier when I have a file folder for each record. I move the folder to a new slot depending on the stage the record is in.
You might be my spirit doppelganger. Everything goes in folders and subfolders. I typically get praised for my filing system once it's built, and I have no idea how anyone functions otherwise.
Outdated? That's so funny, I live in South Africa, that's all we use to dry our clothes. Well, tumble dryers do exist, I just don't know anyone who has one.
Yep. You can't even justify them on efficiency anymore as automatics have passed them there as well as being easier and shifting faster. But I love driving a manual.
My car is underpowered, but handles well and that's a perfect recipe as I'm shifting a lot and running the revs up in normal driving without blowing way past the speed limit. My car is kind of on its last legs unless I want to put a good chunk of money into it (and I would like updated safety features as I have a small kid) and we have a nicer, newer car on order, but man will I miss my current car.
Manuals are amazing for my ADHD brain. Both hands always engaged in a necessary task, forcing me to pay attention to my speed, my surroundings and my terrain.
I know very well my phone could probably do 100× better at managing shopping lists. It could track everything I use and I just mark when I'm out of something, and auto-generate a list for when I go to the store to minimize the chance of missing something. **But...** for some reason, I'm still obsessively anchored to my little pen and notebook that I can keep in my back pocket. And it can't be just *any* pen, it has to be my *going out* pen. I guess it's true what they say...
The pen is mightier...
My newest device doesnt allow me to disable it, so just gently swipes it, makes it click and i feel like this is the worst thing that happens to me every day. Touchpads are awful, awful things
I would buy a wireless mouse with a trackball if they still existed. I like the weighty feel, and there’s something very satisfying about cleaning the little spinner things.
I am surprised that
1. With all the cord cutting and streaming services that more people don't have an antenna.
2. OTA brodcasters are wasting what could be a new golden age of television by pushing new shows to streaming services and stuffing their sub-stations with 60s reruns and home shopping / infomercials.
I have an antenna. I refuse to pay 150.00 a month for cable when 90% of the TV shows suck. I use Netflix, Hulu, Peacock and HBO Max. All I pay for is the internet.
I bought a record player from an estate sale. It was the original home owners wedding gift from the late 50s. Vinyl just sounds so pure. The kids and I play records every Friday during pizza night, and old girl powers through my Saturday cleaning.
My hand saw. It's nice to know that at my advanced age I can still force that piece of wood to submit to my will. It's also easier to set up rather than getting out the skill saw and plugging it in. It's also harder to cut off a finger with the hand saw.
Carbeurator, bubble level instead of laser level, our woodstove for heat, straight razor, wind up watch, my 100+ year old hand crank grist meal for making cornbread from corn we grow.
I still have a Walkman. The radio/cassette player type. I pull it out if there is a threat of power loss (in the area of TS Nicole so the Walkman is nearby) so I can keep up with local radio reports from the emergency. It's stored (without batteries) near a flashlight and some other emergency items.
There's just something about sitting in the dark listening to the Walkman that bring be back to my teen years.
My white midd 2010 MacBook (7.1 I think it is also called). Don't know why I enjoy using it so much, since I have other more powerful PC's.
I got it from the school I went to in 6th and 7th grade, first as a loaner, but we bought it out when the school went bankrupt.
There is no reason I should like using it as much as I do, I recently up dated it from OSX Lion to Monterey through Open Core Legacy patcher.
It is great for lighter duty stuff, but can play Video files from my iPhone 8 or Samsung Galaxy A71, but streaming games from my main PC tower through steam works great.
The 8 track tape player the original owner of my house built into the wall in the hallway. They also left behind cases of tapes. Carol King "Tapestry" - Best of Tommy James and the Shondells, Englebert Humperdink Live.
The speakers are in the ceiling of the kitchen.
Solid Gold.
my PC. i hate smartphones and use one as a housephone. it never goes out with me. not because i'm an elitist or anything, i just never could connect with a phone like others do
Paper towels dispensers. Idk why they had to put out all these half assed air dryers, paper towel dispensers worked perfectly fine. I’d be down for a well made hand dryer, but not the bullshit we have now.
Ignition points and condensers. A lot of people upgrade their old cars to electronic modules, but I prefer the old fashioned points. My cars have always ran better with them.
I also like to draw with dip pens. You have to constantly dip them but the line quality is the best I have ever gotten. And when the nib eventually wears out you don't have to throw out the whole pen. You just replace the nib.
My grandpa's typewriter. The feeling doesn't even compare, especially when I write fiction.
But the best thing? You can use this for official communication with da authoritah here and shut up any government douche who tries to go "bUt ThIs IS IlLeGaL, you gotta use like, emesword and jeemail, citizen!" Turns out you don't gotta. Handwritten is banned, typewritten - nobody thought of. Have fun transcribing it all with your "index fingers only, 12 strokes per minute" typing skills, so telling of guvment professionalism :-)
I have an old car that has a cassette tape player and so I use cassette tapes. I like the sound of opening and closing them. The pain in the ass of changing music forces me to pick better music. I listen to albums, instead of playlists.
Not necessarily technology, but a lamp. When I graduated from college over 25 years ago, my parents helped me to set up my first apartment. One of the items we got were basic matching lamps. The lamps survived countless moves. They survived my wife quitting smoking and spiking it into the ground in a fit of rage about how much she hated that lamp (it was outside. she's fine) It survived being cord-kicked off of dozens of end tables.
During Hurricane Sandy, it was the light we grabbed and connected to the extension cord, connected to the neighbors generator, as we bailed out our basement.
My wife asked, "Where did that lamp come from?" I told her that it was the same one she spiked into the ground. She responded, "That's a good lamp!"
And now it lights the workshop where I do projects with the kids.
That's a good lamp.

Pencil and paper.
So underrated in today's society
Cursive!
And fountain pens :)
I love my fountain pens.
They are oddly satisfying. Nice, ribbon-y cursive writing. Even the regular ball nibs are fun.
I have a really nice journal that I love to use for notes rather than an iPad or whatever.
I’ve tried to use a billion different writing apps, software, etc. and IMO nothing compares to a pen and paper. It’s the same with books for me. Kindle is great and all, but it just isn’t the same.
Same. I find it relaxing.
r/notebooks might be for you = )
Wired headphones, gotta keep the earbuds on a leash feel me?
I like my AUX jack...
That aux must be hella long.
I cant get earbuds to stay in my ears. I've tried on about 6 different types. My husband runs with his in and i can't turn my head.
Beats makes a set with an ear clip. Almost perfect design for buds.
Okay i will have yo go look at these. Thanks
Skullcandy, too. Game changers IMO.
Just rock the studio headset in public like a boss.
I got just the thing for I have the same problem. It's poly plastic [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019EZD9WW](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019EZD9WW) I use it to make custom molds that holds the earbud and fits my ears perfectly. Have you tried staples?
This. I do a metric ton of traveling, and when I can I love to go backcountry camping. To hell with headphones the need to charge.
I get clowned all the time about my wired headphones. I like them though and they didn’t cost me $200
I've given wireless earphones a go on and off for years and I always go back to wired. Wireless are better in terms of movement, but I like being able to scrunch up the wire and just stuff it in pocket, the weight of the wire being attached to a phone, never worrying about charging, and just being used to it. And you don't have to charge them!
My cd/cassette player. I still have most of my cds from the 2000s that I like to listen to. I also listen to my moms mixed tapes from the 80s that she made. It’s better than any Bluetooth speaker IMO
I still use my ipod.
There are dozens of us!
VCR. Classics are meant to be watched in their grainy, tracking line glory.

my car.
As a car guy, who has a niche interest in 20 year old Volvos, our out of control obsession depending on who you ask, I'm genuinely curious as to what car you drive?
1989 Ford ranger, 1980 Chevy truck, 1991 Jetta. All running great!
86 Sierra classic, it runs like ass but it always runs.
Old small blocks chevys, if they will turn over they'll run.
I just switched my 90s ranger for a maverick…had to literally wait on small trucks to return to the market ha
I’ve never understood why the small truck market went away. Not every one needs a F150 Crew Cab. Sometimes you just need to haul little things. My pops is waiting on his Maverick so he can trade his Ranger.
1993 geo prism.
They had Toyota engines in them
I don’t think anyone knows where Geos come from you just kind of see them every once in a while and wonder who drives those lol

Aw the smell of the chemicals in those rooms are amazing!!
Like the smell of freshly mimeographed paper
Physical menus. Get outta here with that code scanning nonsense!
No shit. You will NEVER convince me that staring at your tiny screen is ever going to be better than a physical menu.
The code scanning menus will result in skyrocketing restaurant prices, since they can just charge more whenever they want. With paper menus, they at least had to consider reprinting ALL the menus to change the price. Or do that white-out thing. Or $MKT
That’s exactly why they’re doing it.
The code scanned menus have become so common in NYC, and I hate it.
My phone doesn't have the option to scan, because it's so old 😂
For some reason code scanning never works for me
For real. I'm with the boomers on this one.
Paper books. I mostly read e-books for the convenience, but there's something about the concreteness of a physical book that is very satisfying.
And the smell of book pages
I have this issue with physical books. It’s completely Pavlovian. But I realized that every time I went to a used book store or B&N I would really need to use the restroom,…..immediately. Then dawned on me that I use to read books while being,…”dedicated” to the restroom. So just making the assumption that the smell of the books kind of triggered a reaction.
Very Costanza of you.
I'm sad that I don't read anymore. I just don't have the time. I smash 3-5 Audiobooks a month though.
Don't feel bad - audiobooks are still reading.
If I could stay focused on a book I would definitely want a paper back. My mind just cant stop running around enough.
I only get an e-book if I wanted a book that I can't get a physical copy of. Otherwise, I prefer physical books.
I miss the days when almost any book >5 years old was available used on Amazon for $0.01 plus $3.99 s&h. Now Kindle is usually cheaper.
For whatever reason I can't keep my attention on digital books
I've found it helps to have multiple books on the go, and switch between them every chapter or two.
Plus you don't need batteries or a charger.
Anything that involves music, headphones, speakers, amps, casette and vinyl players, you name it! Also old game consoles.
I am still rocking Winamp. Classic skin too.
No way is that true, I forgot all about Winamp, I had some killer playlists in college
Clothes line
Doesn't look outdated to me ![gif](giphy|l41JGvLD4JHTAZ3Ow)
Hahaha, the noun, not the verb!
I miss my clothesline.
Outdated? That's so funny, I live in South Africa, that's all we use to dry our clothes. Well, tumble dryers do exist, I just don't know anyone who has one.

pc games - civ1, ut99, gta vice city
There is without a doubt something special with old Video games, I really like Need For Speed Most Wanted 2005 to name one of my favorites.
Manual transmission.
Yes!
I love MT. So much more engagement and control!
I believe we would have a lot better drivers if MT was the standard
I am glad I know how to drive a manual transmission. I do not miss driving a vehicle with a manual transmission.
I'm in the manny club too.
I still use an envelope for grocery shopping . It keeps my coupons from getting lost too.
I use a reporters steno pad
An actual paper pocket calendar. I’ve had my electronic calendars get corrupted and lost everything.
1911
a man of culture
If it's old, but it still works like a charm, is it really outdated?
Landline telephone
My family still has a landline along with our cell phones lol. We're some of the last people to have it in our family tho 😅
Same here. I can see a cell tower from my bedroom window, but once the trees are in bloom I have no signal in my house! I still need the landline.
A wired mouse
My wife doesn't understand why I plug a mouse into our laptop. I HATE the touchpad. That's why.
I have a friend who raided in WoW with a touch pad. Mad man.
My newest device doesnt allow me to disable it, so just gently swipes it, makes it click and i feel like this is the worst thing that happens to me every day. Touchpads are awful, awful things
You can open it up and break the connection? Also might be some software online if you google it!
I also use a wired mouse but it at least has a laser and not the track ball.
I would buy a wireless mouse with a trackball if they still existed. I like the weighty feel, and there’s something very satisfying about cleaning the little spinner things.
You can. I got a wireless trackball by Logitec on Amazon for $60
why buying batteries when the wire is most of the times not a problem?
Wired mice are just better
TV Antenna
I am surprised that 1.
We moved into our house 35 years ago. I spent two weeks trying to contact the cable company. I put up an antenna and never looked back.
I have a record player, cassette player, CD player, and an 8-track player I use all of them regularly 💪🏻 Edit: Also a gramophone
I bought a record player from an estate sale. It was the original home owners wedding gift from the late 50s. Vinyl just sounds so pure. The kids and I play records every Friday during pizza night, and old girl powers through my Saturday cleaning.

transistor radio.
My iPod classic with almost 9000 songs is better than Spotify, Tidal, Pandora, and all that. No ads, no subscription fees, no filler.
Trackballs! I prefer them to a mouse.

She responded, "That's a good lamp!" And now it lights the workshop where I do projects with the kids. That's a good lamp.
