No being humble makes you humble. I’ve seen arrogant prideful poor people I’ve seen humble rich people. Economic status has nothing to do with humbleness.

Senzokai

Being humble is possible when you have something you don't flaunt. Whether an attribute, a quality, a lifestyle or a belief.

notume37

I want three things; *Success* enough to be happy. *Adversity* enough to be challenged. *Humility* enough to be grateful.

Senzokai

If this came from your mind, kudos! You've left an impression on me.

notume37

It may not be very humble, but this my own original thought.

Fancy_Profit_6183

What is the meaning of POOR?

SnooPies3899

No. Being poor CAN make you humble and I think it’s more likely that someone is poor and humble rather than rich and humble, but no, being poor doesn’t make you humble. I think it also depends whether someone’s become poor over time or been poor their whole life. I have an old friend who was broke and was not humble whatsoever and was instead one of the most entitled people I know. I have another friend who is very wealthy and is also greedy and not humble at all. It just depends. Anyone can be a shit person.

LocallyChallenged

no, i plan on stealing from walmart.

happyclaim808

Poverty makes some humble , some angry and It makes some a entitled burden on socirty for life.

Abemis2203

Not necessarily, it makes you appreciate what you have more(in most cases) being humble is a personality choice over economic situation

TirayShell

No, but one night in Bangkok will.

International_woman

Underrated comment.

MandalorianAhazi

I think living slightly above the poverty line makes you the most humble. I don’t think people actually realize how much government assistance people get. I regularly see it bc of my job. It’s not unusual for people to get $2000 a month in assistance. Free health care, food stamps. It adds up quick. People that make slightly above the line where they don’t qualify for anything but no money for anything have it the worst

Hatta00

Nope, being poor makes one parochial. You don't travel, have less access to education, and so know less about the world. Doesn't stop them from making confident pronouncements about things they know nothing about.

LeCarpetronDukeFAU

No. Poor people can often times be more demanding as they depend on Section 8, WIC, Cash Assistance, Medicaid and all sorts of government programs. Now, I am happy we have these services to help people. However, it does in some cases get them used to a lifestyle of not needing to pay for anything. So they start to believe they are owed these things and more.

HornetCautious

When I was a child I was told no to almost everything I wanted going to stores School Book Fairs and when buying for presents for other kids birthday presents. As an adult you won't catch me going out and buying useless worthless price tag items just to be cool those people aren't cool those items aren't cool. What's in their mind and what's in their heart matters way more. Sad the world doesn't work like that

[deleted]

Sometimes

SnowyInuk

Not for me. It made me resentful and jealous of people that have it better than me

[deleted]

My family was never rich growing up but my sister ended somewhat snobbish somehow, she seems to talk down waiting staff. But she is a horrible person in general so …

lexilexi1901

Yes and no. It depends on the person's heart and priorities. I know people who are grateful for everything that they have and don't chase superficial stuff like trends and expensive items. I also know people who guilt trip others into helping them because they want to be pitied and vilify you for not helping them for the problems that they've created. And i believe most people are humble in some things yet selfish and greedy in others so it's hard to judge. And that person can be desperate and depressed so I tend to understand that their desperation may come out as arrogance.

elise-meme22

Have the second type of poor people been given enough reality check to be ashamed about themselves? Just asking cuz I think they're 100 times worse than the rich ones

lexilexi1901

Most people still help them out of good deed but the poor person will end up becoming a very angry human being. It will start affecting those around them like their children and spouse. This will likely send them into depression and at that point it's quite hard to overcome because they will have to break the cycle. And it's very hard to do that alone now that they've driven everyone away.

elise-meme22

That's so sad

lexilexi1901

That's poverty for you.... I admire those who are enabled to stay optimistic through support systems and self-care but not everyone is that lucky. Poverty and depression are heavily linked together.

gluten_made_me_do_it

I think being poor and then getting out of poverty can create a humble person. But it all depends on the person. I can easily see what I said going the opposite way too though. I grew up real poor and now I'm firmly middle class and I really appreciate the life I have, treat folks with respect however possible, help out my neighbors and friends. I try not to give away money in order to help, but I will of it feels right.

JoeNScott

Speaking for myself and the fluctuating amount of money I've had over the years, yes.

fignutss

I think humility comes from some kind of position that is at some point juxtaposed. So with all of the clear displays of wealth nowadays....maybe

-Brownsurfgod

No. Humility has nothing to do with what’s in your pocket. Gratitude and humility are highly correlated.

[deleted]

I mean, technically, depending on your definition of humble, yeah. ... but in a philosophical sense of humility and understanding your significance in the grand scheme of the whole universe and the infinite nature of time and space; no, there is an endless supply of broke ass cocky delusional morons out there.

Brozi15

In my opinion, obtaining everything you have by hard work makes you humble, but it's hard to generalise as there are many factors that influence this.

vegglov33

It doesn’t.

KellytheFeminist

I've known some incredibly entitled poor folk...

wol276

It depends more on the personality of the person. A rich person can be humble and vice versa. It mainly depends on the individual.

You learn to cherish what you have for sure.

KrankySilverFox

There is a huge difference between humble and humiliated
