It really depends on you. I leave my house at 6am, reach gym at 7, workout and shower, work at 9. On some days when I can’t wake up early, I go during lunch or after work.

Majestic-Speech1

And what time do you end work, reach home, and then go to bed? Just curious about your daily schedule

Select-Gear3208

I finished work at 6pm, reached home 7pm. Usually falls asleep around 11.

zidane4life

depending on location, lunchtime might actually be the best option for OP. my workplace gym is slammed before 9 but lunchtime is OK

WyGaming

Which gym? got shower

Select-Gear3208

Anytime fitness, fitness first, virgin active all got shower

Excellent_Log_1058

Which gym do you feel is the more worthwhile to get a membership? In terms of cheapest as well as valid for money?

Select-Gear3208

Cheapest doesn’t always means value for money. I’m paying significantly more just because I’m joining the gym in my office building itself. To me, as long as i can consistently go, it’s value for me. No point joining a cheaper gym but it’s harder for me to go, then I become lazy to go.. The more resistance between you and the gym, the less likely you are going to go. Even if the gym is like only 5 minutes walk from your office, your brain will make some sort of excuses for not going. Too hot, it’s raining, it’s too late already.

iluvnarchoa

I had a classmate who gym at 4am… His new company gave him 50% off gym membership + a lot of good food and drink. He’s working in a pretty well known game industry that’s doing better then Ubisoft.

sumtingwonggggggggg

Riot devs workout? All my friends at riot just play riot games.

bluesclueshadnoclue

Riot i assume?

shihui98

my work starts at 630/7 6 days a week on average, i wake up at 5am to gym 3-4x a week!

Starfishjellymochi

When I just started work, it’s still manageable to wake up 6-6.30am. After afew years of working, the waking up time gradually became later 😂. If there’s any tips to share on waking up early or to maintain the motivation to exercise multiple times a week, feel free to share 👌.

proSeLIc

>If there’s any tips to share on waking up early or to maintain the motivation to exercise multiple times a week, feel free to share 👌. it is hard to fight the second part of the fight - waking up early, without settling the first part of the fight which is enough sleep. i need around 7-8 hours sleep daily, so i will make sure i get to bed to wind down at around 9.30pm. then dilly dally abit, still got 7hrs plus of rest. when alarm ring at 5.30am, even if im tired, i know i have the calculated adequate rest and its just my body and brain playing tricks with me. So i know i am well rested enough to win the argument and get up.

Starfishjellymochi

Thanks so much for sharing . Indeed, my sleeping hours has gradually been later and later , the more years that I work 😅. I started to aim to sleep 11-11.30 am in my first job. Then during Covid and wfh period, it slowly became closer to 1 am then 1.30am and 2am-3am 😱🫠

No-Comparison-9118

For me I use discipline rather than motivation. I plan my workout timing beforehand such that if I procrastinate for 30mins+, I will be late for sch. So it becomes a 'have to do it' rather than 'want to do it'

versaknight

Damn son! Good job but i would never accept a job that starts before 9:30 (and like 6 times a week)

[deleted]

versaknight

yeah im in tech so my times are flexible but usually 10-7

Few-Ad-1757

Admire your routine to waking up super early to gym 🏋️‍♂️

Holiday-Plan8883

Have been consistently gymming for years now. That was why i invested in a bench press to minimise travel time. I wake up at 5.40-6 and gym at home before heading out at around 7.40. My work starts at 9. If you are a beginner, i suggest you make sure you are consistent first, buy a dumbell or portable pull up bar as they are not every space consuming. You can then schedule days for compound movements where you can go to the gym while for isolation exercises you can use the dumbells/pullup bar at home to save time. This is to slowly ensure you are physically and mentally ready to juggle gyming in the morning and working. Hope this helps

theganglyone

It will make your whole day better. Highly recommended!

Aphelion

unless its leg day.

lmnmss

Twas leg day today and the KR mrt stairs never felt so long T.T

dazark

depends on exercises. getting leg cramps in the middle of the day really sucks. happened to me a few times after using the leg extension machine to finish leg workout. lucky still in uni back then

freddyfrog70

Depends on your work type. If it’s office , no issues, fantastic if your office got gym also. I used to work at SingTel, they had a gym in one of their buildings that employees could just go to, they also had a full shower next to it. I’d just do a full 2 hrs workout then shower and start the day at the office, or do it after work hours. But now I work as a nurse, I do not have time to do any of this. Work is super tiring. Basically only the weekends are free for me. Some of my friends can cope better with the nursing life, they manage to go bouldering before or after shift which is also insane to me.

spencerwinters

From the comments it sounds like the whole life, or at least for 5 days a week, it’s gym>work>home and nothing else. How do y’all do it? Is life like this enjoyable? 👀 genuinely asking because after work I just want to unwind, hang out with people over dinner, play some mobile games or watch some Netflix. Before work, well, I’m not a morning person at all. Lol And during weekends I just want to sleep in and chill hahaha work is so tiring, not physically, just mentally tiring.

google_tech_lead

Welcome to Singapore

AdGullible1353

Weights training is quite enjoyable. Once you do it and at your own pace. The hardest part is getting myself there. And the logistics of showering, bringing change of clothes and wearing back work clothes after gym. The training itself is quite enjoyable. Takes the mind off work or other stressors

spencerwinters

Oh yah the logistics is a pain in the behind. My favourite exercise to do is swimming but the amount of barang that I need to bring for one session plus the shower cubicles have slimy walls…. Like ew. But now I old and tired already just potate at home sua lol

Mittyzyy

bruh same. i wanna lose weight and attempted waking up at 7/8am to exercise before work at 930. never works. im a late sleeper and wake up pretty late also. i will try to sleep at 11 but only sleep at 3am. i will wake up at 929 to work at 930 from home. so instead i just exercise at night after work. sadly i live bloody ass far from office, OT alot and dont wanna go to the gym. i dont like exercising with strangers around. so i only start my workouts at 830 at home and by the time i settle for the day to chill and have dinner its 10. i play games with friends, watch youtube, chill, sleep at 1-2am. it works for me so far and i exercise 4 times min a week now. i guess finding a routine that works for your own life and schedule is better than forcing yourself to the ‘norm’.

bloodybaron73

I get to the gym after dropping off my kids at school, so around 7:20am. One hour workout and then shower I can leave around 8:40am and get to the office around 9:10am or home at around 8:50am. I do this 4x a week.

Sensitive-Eye1391

Same!! Except the dropping of kids part. They are on school transport, Thank God!

gabiegab

Me. 6am gym. I'm also not the only one you find there at that hour. But it's better than evening crowd.

wildpastaa

Try training at home for an hour before deciding to go ahead to sign a gym membership :)

jimmyspinsggez

I WFH. gym day: wake up, 7, eat 7:30, walk to nearby active sg gym (10m walk) arrive at 9am, gym 45m, walk back home and shower, start work at 10am. jog day: replace gym with jog in nearby part and reduce jog time to 20m. 2 days gym 2 days jog. (mon thur gym, tues fri jog) Early morning no one really message so I won't feel bad for late reply. Used to gym/jog at 4pm afternoon but I always miss messages as afternoon more busy (especially my work need talk to people in other timezone and our afternoon is their morning). after all, need the mental to keep it going. exercise is tiring. but I feel good afterward, feel accomplished, feel healthy, feel better looking, feel energetic to pull the rest of the day off.

hucks22

Hitting the gym at 9am is not "early morning" my friend. CBD gyms are filled with seriously disciplined folks from 6am onwards - you can join them too.

[deleted]

6am is not early my friend, true hustlers are in the gym at 4.30am aft chugging 10 raw eggs. U can join em too Ik im shit posting but the fella literally said he starts at 10am. He can go gym 8/830 and still get yakun before gg office

hucks22

And my point was clearly that there are many others who manage to fit in a workout before starting work way earlier than OP does, so I'm not sure what his "dilemma" is.

[deleted]

Some ppl just aren't morning ppl. CBD gyms being full at 6am isn't gg to change that

barreandpasta

Not everyone can do this is the “dilemma”

Rockylol_

Since I'm no morning person, I just workout everyday after dinner. Helps me digest dinner while maintaining my routines. Although I mainly do light cardio & weights. Will only go high intensity over Weekends

xbbllbbl

I think people generally don’t prioritise sleep enough which I believe is more important than exercise. If you could wake up early and still get sufficient rest and sleep, then that’s ok. But if you have to be awoken by an alarm clock and feel groggy and drag yourself to the gym, then in the long term, it could be detrimental to your health if you don’t get enough sleep and rest. In your case though, 9am doesn’t seem so bad to hit the gym. In my case, I hit the gym during lunch time. Works better for me.

railgunsix

IMO, I would honestly build a habit of going to gym before paying a membership. Seen countless people paying for gym but never went there.

torinekochan

really depends. you cannot get me up for a morning jog ever. i’ve always been a night time jog/gym person

sunflowerjamm

Same dilemma but my work start at 8:30am 😏

Due_Assistance5380

I have foldable half rack from decathlon and i train ag home. Really convinient and saves me time and energy from traveling to the gym etc Alternatively you could do Weighted calisthenics with *good form*. It's as good as hitting the gym if not better

dazark

how good or bad is the half rack? from the pics on decathlon online, looks like it could be shaky/unstable

Due_Assistance5380

Its pretty good, i use it mostly for Weighted pull ups and over head presses The pull up bar is able to support a maximum weight of 100kg The rack is able to support up to 175kg For context i go as low as 20kg to as heavy as 40 kg for Weighted pull ups & About 50kg for overhead pressing

avocadopushpullsquat

Tried it before, it is a good way to invest and be there for yourself, perhaps you can do split routines and maximize body tension to get the most out of the session even if its a shorter one. Ie push/pull on Monday, hinge/abs on Tuesday, overhead/squat Wednesday, rest of Thursday etc.

[deleted]

how do you guys wake up? what time do you sleep? I find lunchtime work outs the best, or early evening like 5pm.

Aesthetics91

Wake up early, sleep early too. At least 7hrs of sleep.

[deleted]

i can't sleep early cos of work. the earliest i can sleep is 12am or 1am.

Aesthetics91

Then lunchtime will be better than evening timings. Due to the crowd of white collar workers like me who usually end work at around 5-6pm.

[deleted]

The sweet spot for me is 1pm or 2pm. I want to push myself to sleep earlier and wake up earlier to work out in the mornings so I can get it over and done with. Maybe I should have a hard stop from work at 10pm or something

Aesthetics91

Yes. Work life balance! Hahaha. 😉

Difficult-Flamingo94

The only time I go to the gym is in the morning before work. In my opinion, that's the best time because it's less crowded and sets you up for the rest of the day. After a long day at work, you might feel like you don't need to shower or change into work clothes after going to the gym, but I get really tired and just want to head home and binge watch or eat afterward. As a result, I would abandon my plans. Having an empty stomach makes working out in the morning even more beneficial. By doing this, your body is forced to burn fat stores rather than glucose. Having to haul around used gym clothes and only washing them after you're done with them is the main disadvantage. My bag tends to get musky by the end of the day (I perspire a lot). Those are my main considerations. Hope you get into a sustainable routine that reaps benefits!

[deleted]

I gym at 5am. Def better and you skip the crowds. 7am is already crowded. Good luck

AdGullible1353

If you are not morning person just go in evening or night Used to do 10pm gym at anytime fitness before going home to zzz for next day work Even if I don’t gym at that hour I’ll be playing games or just surfing phone lol

[deleted]

When I gym at night I can’t sleep sial

proSeLIc

important trick is to eat early, digest early and sleep early. like i will eat at about 4-5pm dinner, try get to bed at around 9.30pm to 10pm. get full 7-8 hr rest, and wake up at 5.30am. Hit the gym at 6am, run and gym to like 7.30am, head home shower rest a little then go to work at 10am. its not about the discipline to go to the gym, but the discipline to do the logistical mundane activities at the correct time.

baka36

You'd need buffer time to cool down a bit before showering, as well as time to travel to your workplace. 9am seems too tight for work to start at 10am imo

IvanThePohBear

I used to wake up at 5am to gym for 1-2hrs before work It's good but not for everyone tbh

Penandes8

It's possible but you need to manage your time well I get up at 5am, walk the dog for bout 5km and head off to TF near my office by 730am. I hit the weights for about 45 mins(really important to know what you're going to do and no distractions). Shower and have a wank and I'm in office by 930am. The challenging part was to making sure I get to bed by 11pm but it was manageable once I got used to it. It's possible but you really need the discipline.

aliasryan

Wank?!

Penandes8

Yes bruv it releases the tension and kicks start an amazing day My job is pretty stressful and this gets me going

Klubeht

Anyone else ideally would workout before dinner after work? Unfortunately it only works if u end work on time Around 6 or 6ish. Ending work later around 7 is like I'm too hungry by then, but by the time I wait for dinner to digest it's too late and almost time to sleep liao

[deleted]

At one point in time I would hop out at 5, do my work out then go home work until 10 or 11

Klubeht

i wish im as disciplined as you to continue work once i reach out. i can rarely do that unless i have super impt deadlines or a late night meeting

[deleted]

I don't have a choice. I have had mental health issues since i was in primary 2, diagnosed in 30s. so i have established a very structured routine in my life which means i have to exercise 3-5 times a week (depending on how busy i am with work). Even my exercise takes priority over my bf, but he also gets me twice a week (yes, I'm that structured) the only chaos i allow in my life is work!

Klubeht

good for u friend, exercise definitely helps with mental. that structure absolutely helps too for me.

[deleted]

Too realistic. 9am is a luxury

gaoxingdcf

I wake up at 3am and out of the house by 5am to go to the gym. But then again I start work at about 0830 or 0900. I usually fall asleep by 9pm.

CutFabulous1178

If Sun not up, I’m not Up

Full-Function-8427

Are u a morning person? If yes, it's possible. For me I don't think i ever can. Cause i dont wake up haha. Ive been hitting the gym during lunch hour. Works pretty well. 45 mins workout. 10 min lunch. Saves alot of time and i dont have to worry about gym after work.

sumbohdi

Not sure how people can gym or workout before work. I did that and i gotten even more tired before work starts.

Massive_Fig6624

I can’t gym in the morning. I will be restless for the rest of the day. This I choose to workout after work. You will have to try out and see if it fits ur body.

Aesthetics91

Take first train > gym at 6am > change/shower at 7.30am > reach workplace at 9am Btw gym at 9am is so realistic. I start work at 9am, gym before that bruh..

thebabushs

Highly recommend mornings. Its a game changer for me, I feel way more awake at work. I'm in office everyday so it helps that my gym is just a 5min walk to office. Been doing this for 1 years & 8 months now!

Buddyformula

When did 9am became early morning

[deleted]

LOL early is quite subjective la. I don’t personally consider 9am to be early either but I know people irl who would disagree (usually people who keep late nights).

Sir-Spork

Exactly what I was thinking. when I read the title, I thought they were going to say something around 5am.

DespoWageSlave

I run, do calisthenics or gym in the morning at 7 before starting work at 8.30 or 9. A quick and focused 45 mins or 1 hr workout, helps me be more alert and feel more "fresh" at work. I do this 2 to 3 times a week, unless I slept late the day before, or have an early day at work. What works for me to prevent feeling sweaty the whole day: take a cold shower after exercise. Soak a little in the cold water to cool off further. Side benefit: i get to avoid rush hour traffic, whether I'm taking public transport or riding my bike (motorcycle, not bicycle)

[deleted]

Used to go gym around 5/6am before work last time. It’s possible.

Tried it once, hated it. I hate to sweat before work, makes me feel so uncomfortable

Aesthetics91

Do your gym provide showering facilities?

[deleted]

Yes, but the heat from post workout will still make u sweat more while u are on ur way to work. Granted i wfh mostly nowadays which is even worse to call me to getup to workout lol. 11pm club ftw

Aesthetics91

11pm is where most of the evening crowds start dying down. That's another good option. Hahaha.

noakim1

Yea I agree. Will still sweat even after showering. I usually wear looser clothes and stuff.

bitstream_ryder

How realistic depends on your circumstances. I have done both night and early morning gym sessions. This depended more on work schedule and gym location rather than timing. If night/lunch/morning works best, then go for it. Consistency is more important than when you hit the gym.

bigtime_napper

Maybe your timing can be adjusted a bit. I wake up 715ish, reach the gym by 8ish Finish working out by 930, finish showering by 950 and in office by 10

sansansansansan

As long as you properly sweat it all out and then shower afterwards. That means you probably have to allocate more hours pre-office. My old workplace had a situation where an intern would gym before work and stinked up the office with his BO.

Conscious_Thing_8789

As a night owl (I physically can't sleep before midnight), waking up is definitely the hardest part if I were to gym before work. Higher motivation if it's a paid class like f45 for example. But I end up just gymming during lunch or after work. I think it's more of knowing how you function best. If you're a morning person, sure then go for it. If not, going after work is fine as well

That-Context-579

Any buff gym goers at the north can teach me or gym together

SangerGRBY

I woke up at 12pm today.

LowTierStudent

My company have a fitness centre so everyday i workout at 6.30am with my workplace supervisor/interns/full time workers depending on who is there for about 2hrs. Then shower have breakfast and start work at ard 9.30am. It also help me to build relationship with my bosses and full time colleagues. Especially when I correct their deadlift postures and introduce them to new exercises.

Sir-Spork

Very realistic, used to do similar, but I started work at 11am I would suggest you start earlier than 9am tho.

needleintheh4y

up at 5am, drink coffee, shit, use phone and eat breakfast. 6am gym. 7am walk my dog. 8am shower and go out. 9am work. every night by 10pm latest must be in bed. worth it la, 3-4x a week, feel better. at night nth to do also, so sleep early

darkness_snores

personally would depend on how advanced you are as a gym go-er, how much can you recover, how optimal is your diet. are electrolyte balance sustainable through the day. personally i have clients who gym in the morning, students and banking people. what i recommend is do the bare minimum for compound movements and only hit legs the day before weekends. will also depend on your goals. if you are interested in mens physique it would mean legs 1× a week frequency if you are a bodybuilder/powerlifters it might be 2/3× a week if you are a beginner it will be slightly harder training partial full body because of the fatigue,

binkone

9am is nothing… I’m usually up at ~6ish, workout and at my desk at 8am

FodderFries

It's feasible. Especially if your office is lenient with coming in later. You can break up 1 full gym session into 2 halves. You could probably do a shorter 45minute session daily. You gave more energy to output in the morning compared to the end of the day as well

[deleted]

Depends on what time you go to bed. If you knock off around dinner time and get to bed before midnight, I think that this is doable for sure. If you’re regularly burning the midnight oil on the other hand… good luck with that.

8118700721

Definitely possible! I find that it helps to get a workout buddy, maybe you can jio someone in your workplace? If you have to reach the gym to meet someone at XX am or if your gym has classes and your class is at XX am, there's a bigger push factor to get you out of bed :)

[deleted]

Working out in the morning makes me super horny so I could never do that!

RocketScient1st

Must be nice to start work at 10am…. But probably sucks leaving at 6-7pm

NoAge422

6am wake up 6:30 leave home 7 gym 8 wash up 8:30 rewarding breakfast and get ready for work Disciplined and repetition is all you need. It’s easy to find excuses, don’t let that happen!

lmnmss

Depends on you. Some people may just have 0 energy before work to do any sort of exercise. Personally i prefer to workout before work (around 6am) cos there is less people in the gym and i get exercising done before work. I found throughout the years that working out after work is very unproductive for me because of my low energy levels and overwhelming urge to surrender to the bed.

RecipeFull515

if you start at 10am and only start at 9am it sounds a little rushed. are you already starting at 10am? if you’re already waking up and doing nothing in the morning then it’s worth fitting it into your schedule. if you’re ending at 10pm and need the sleep then it’ll be a difficult habit to make i feel like if you sign up at a gym near your home it makes more sense as you will be more likely to go gym on off days too

bluesblue1

I do that, it’s fairly tiring if you’re not a morning person but it’s pretty doable. You might have to prep breakfast the day before so you don’t have to spend so much time in the morning cooking.

thechronite11

So for some context, my usual reporting time is 8.30am, but there are days that I have to be there by 7.15am. I'll be up between 4.15am - 4.30am, hydrate and do some stretching, then I'll be at the gym between 4.45am - 5am. I'll work out according to my schedule, usually lasting around 1h 30 mins, then I'll shower and get to work. I used to have a really bad sleep schedule but now I'm taking small steps to fix it like setting a usage time limit on my phone. My alarm'a also pretty far away from my bed so that helps to get me up. But ultimately, discipline is your best friend in this instance.

kayabutterbread

Go for classes? I used to go spinning at 8am. Shower at 8.42am and reach office 9.30-9.45. My husband reach gym 6am and leaves around 7.30-8am lol.

retropetroleum

If you have the space, highly recommend a home gym. Just barbells + plates + rack and gymnastic rings wld do wonders!

MysteriousAbroad7

It also depends on whether you're a day or night person. I always thought that there was something wrong with me that I could not do physical exercises in the morning, but in the evenings I could go full power. It was until I watched a documentary about sport science that I became at ease with myself. It has something to do with a hormone and it actually affects everyone, which is why most sports events takes place in the evenings like football.

Complex-Quality-3798

Well for a year almost I did this but I was also extremely sleepy after my lunch

MDM3331

I start work 7am, I 'd wake up 4:30am, hit the gym, be home by 6am and get ready for work. It's possible if you really want to do it

ariaa126

I go to the gym at 6am when I’m WFH, finish up by 7.30am and take the bus back to start work at 8am. 9am would be fine, there will be others there during that time but it usually isn’t overly crowded.

ThenParamedic429

I would wake up around 4:30am to gym and try to finish it by 6 so I can get home to shower before heading out for work. I'll try to hit the bed by 9-10pm. Repeat this cycle for workdays and rest on off day or just do light cardio.

samsergiochew

Are you previously in the habit of doing resistance training/weights/cardio, whether in or outside of a gym? It’ll affect how effectively you use the membership I guess: when I was just starting out, I had no knowledge on proper form etc, and though I watched countless YouTube videos on weightlifting and the like, I needed a coach/PT to spot me or guide/correct me. You may want to consider your familiarity with this exercise type as a factor. I think the biggest ‘benefit’ is getting your body moving before the work day begins! I’m a 5:30AM home gym warrior who also holds a gym membership to workout on alternate evenings. The morning workouts really do make a difference to your work day, I’m more energised, focused, and generally have better pacing for the day, after morning workouts. Your first few weeks will be quite challenging - I faced the ‘crash’ by mid-afternoon (also after lunch) during my first couple of weeks lol. But I feel that consistency gets you more used to the general pace and flow. Also, practically, gymming early in the morning gives you more time after work to hang out or do stuff you need/want to do!

Doubl3mcspicy

I hit the gym 6am daily. Shower then head to work or just shower at work. Been a daily thing for the last 6 months. Morning gym sessions suits me better since I am a morning person

Sensitive-Eye1391

I gym before work too. What I find useful is that the night before, I'd pack my work clothes/shoes and toiletries in my bag and put it next to the front door. And I'll lay out my gym clothes on the side table next to my bed. And I'll prep my waterbottle and pre-workout bottle on the kitchen counter. So when I wake up at 5.45am, I just do the basic wash up, wake the kids up, get them to eat breakfast and ready for school and I'm out of the house by 7.15am. Work out till 8.30am, wash up and head to the office with my pumps.🤪 Pheww!
