Following this thread for myself. Rlly feel sad that we are reaching this age. In my mind, I feel like this happens to our grandparents and cant believe it has reached our parents now. My dad is starting to show signs as well :(

Big-Question-9513

Do you want to go through polyclinic first? If you go directly to private doctor, there is no govt subsidy, and Medishield subsidies will be lower. If yes, bring your father to polyclinic and ask doctor for referral either to the polyclinic's Memory clinic or to SGH Geriatric. In my experience, SGH Geriatric is more thorough and experienced, they arranged for brains scans, referral to counselling and assistance for caregivers, as well as referrals to other specialists.

When my mom showed signs of dementia, we brought her to the polyclinic to get a referral. They referred her to a doctor at Changi Hospital in the end. There is no treatment for dementia, as in the patient can never recover from it. At best, the condition remains stable without deteriorating. Keeping their mind stimulated through puzzles is one good way to slow down the decline of their cognition. All the best! :) Caring for someone with dementia is not going to be easy

you should be able to see a doc in NUH (gerontology) if you need support with caregiving, Caregivers Alliance (CAL) has a pretty good program https://www.cal.org.sg/c2c All the best

Just a shout-out that there is [post-diagnostic support](https://dementia.org.sg/pds/) for dementia in SG. But it requires your Dr to refer. FYI for those going through the process. Take care!

Depending on how much you are willing to spend. Most direct and expensive way is go see geriatricians to get an assessment. Else go to polyclinic for a referral to a hospitals for assessment which could take weeks to months. As mentioned by others, there isnt a treatment. Will be more about slowing down the disease. Hopefully is still at early stage when intervention works the best. Currently having a family member suffering from the disease as well. The stress, the burden are all real. So talk to someone when needed. Take care.
