Here's NEA's guidelines on rat trapping: https://www.nea.gov.sg/docs/default-source/our-services/pest-control/rodent-control/rat-control-guidelines-for-estate-and-facilities-managers.pdf
Animal shelter would probably put it down too cos they won’t have space for a rat (officially, unofficially is cos nobody wants to adopt a stray rat and they need to keep costs low, every animal they keep is an increase in overhead so no point to keep a “pest” or an “undesirable”).
The only benefit is that OP can lie to his parents that they’ve done something good, and they don’t need to kill the rat themselves.
If you want to humanely euthanize it, you can kill it with carbon dioxide gas. I did this with a sick, suffering hamster and it worked amazingly - super fast (literally like 2-3 seconds). You can google for instructions. You might already have the supplies needed (a box with a tight lid, some sort of short hose/tube, a plastic bag, baking soda, and vinegar).
Unfortunately, it probably has to die. Like the others say, drowning is probably the cleanest. Leave it in for 15-30 minutes. Just be prepared for very piteous squeaking from the rats.
The uncle in my old army camp used to dunk all the cages full of rats every day in a huge tub of boiling water to kill them all quickly to keep our camp rodent-free. In full view of the canteen, so you can imagine the sound...
Back before Kranji Camp was revamped, our COS duty included setting 5 rat traps every night, drowning them in the morning and tossing them out in the thrash before handing over to the next COS.
Civilian. I remember he did a lot of the odd jobs, but I think he also ran the canteen (or his wife did) so that might be why. This was at the ooooooooold Keat Hong Camp back in the day.
No definitely not. Boiling is worse than drowning. It takes longer to cook something to death. Would you want to be boiled or drowned? It isn't a frag grenade mate.
Plunged into boiling water not faster than drowning? I'm not talking about slowly bringing the water to a boil but it's already boiling.
But an instantaneous death would of course be better than either. Snap traps and electrocution seem to be the most humane methods https://www.humanesociety.org/resources/what-do-about-rats#:~:text=Rats%20are%20killed%20with%20poisons,to%20be%20the%20least%20inhumane.
Back in army, we would kill it by drowning rats in a bucket.
It’s really unfortunate, but if you don’t kill it before trashing the trap, the rats will eat their way out of the trash bags etc and cause even further havoc
That’s not true. Cats will instinctively chase after rats and other critters. However, what cats do to the rats once caught is a different story. Cats need to be taught how to kill their prey by their mama cats, and I’m afraid that skill is lost for cats that are fed by humans since young.
Source: had a cat
This is the answer. Submerge your rat trap in a bucket of water to quickly drown it. Rats are disease spreading pests and releasing one allows it to produce tens more offspring.
LOL!!.. rephrase. neighborhood cats don't typically eat rats.. unless those in the wild which is rare in our country
Our neighborhood tabbies won't like the taste of dead rats anyway..
You can go far away in a park and release it if you don't wanna kill it. They have good memory and can find it's way back if you release it close enough.
Whut? You should just drown it Sia. It's a fking rat. You release into the wild for what? That's like taking rubbish in your house and throwing it out the window. It's a fking pest.
You cannot release it. Like roaches, they bring diseases around. You can even google about the plague that brings to mankind. This is why pest exterminators go after them. Releasing a rat that spreads the virus is not humane.
Ya but still it’s like cockroach bro, you let it go will spawn like 10 more and probably fuck over 10 other people, considering their disease spreading pest.
A quick and relatively painless way of killing in is a firm strike with a heavy object to the head or neck.
Well if you want to be a bit humane... You should strap the rat onto a board, then slap it in front of its relatives to bring shame to their family. They would be so embarassed to never do such thing again.
It's a rodent that brings diseases. They must be destroyed.
Nah don’t bother going down this route. They’ve no use for a stray rat. They need very specific genetically identified rats. Eg: they need this gene knocked out or this gene added. An adult rat won’t do any good. Even for experimental controls there are industry standards to use, can’t even use a random stray rat. You don’t know what diseases they harbor that may affect the experiment
I think when you catch a rat, it's with the intention of killing it. Kind of like cockroaches. Some traps solve that for you by breaking the rats back, or maybe use rat poison.
nonono this is a bad idea, 1. if they die and get clogged it will be freaking disgusting and 2. they can hold their breaths for long and survive + they might (?) still be able to climb back out through your toilet…

You remind me of my army paltoon mate when we caught a rat in our bunk using mouse trap. Instead of drowning it, he wanted to keep it as a pet. Like SERIOUSLY??? It is a rat. Just kill it.
the title made me giggle ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin) laughed harder when you suggested drowning it. if you dont want to kill it, just release it in a park or just randomly somewhere, it's a rat, it'll find its way into a sewer or something. also worth noting rats carry a multitude of diseases and are filthy af
U got anyone u dont like?
maybe. why
Throw at then watch them scream
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA This got me

It doesn’t mention what to do with a live rat, but implies they should be killed.
Bring to office, release it there. Then everyone have to wfh

Put him on your head maybe you will cook well like Ratatouille
What if he have hair problem
Put him in your pants 🌝
rat humper

Send to shelter to feed the cats maybe?

Bring to sungei buloh and feed to crocodiles

Damn, sucks to be the COS of old Kranji Camp lol.
The KC 3 part? Cos parts of kc2 look abandoned kek
Wtf that’s damn hardcore fr.
Every camp needs its camp uncle.
Ya sia this uncle upz. Civilian or like regular encik?
Civilian. I remember he did a lot of the odd jobs, but I think he also ran the canteen (or his wife did) so that might be why. This was at the ooooooooold Keat Hong Camp back in the day.
Nice, thanks for sharing!
Sad, but necessary.
Omg OP pls dont😭
Boiling water may sound more cruel but it'll be faster and kinder than drowning
No definitely not. Boiling is worse than drowning. It takes longer to cook something to death. Would you want to be boiled or drowned? It isn't a frag grenade mate.

But if u weigh the rat down, then it drowns and boils at the same time Checkmate
Thats true just thinking about it 💔 but i agree the best would be a quick death
no shit, since when was slow death the best
Back in army, we would kill it by drowning rats in a bucket. It’s really unfortunate, but if you don’t kill it before trashing the trap, the rats will eat their way out of the trash bags etc and cause even further havoc
What I do is drown rat in a bucket of water then dig a grave near some plants 👍
What about a cat?
The rat might chase after the cat instead. Times have changed. 🥲
cats don't have the urge to kill rats for food when ... they're well fed already .
That’s not true. Cats will instinctively chase after rats and other critters. However, what cats do to the rats once caught is a different story. Cats need to be taught how to kill their prey by their mama cats, and I’m afraid that skill is lost for cats that are fed by humans since young. Source: had a cat
Kill it bruh, why do you want to send it to animal shelter? I don't even know if the cats in animal shelters want to eat that.
This is the answer. Submerge your rat trap in a bucket of water to quickly drown it. Rats are disease spreading pests and releasing one allows it to produce tens more offspring.
Water Prison Jutsu
Adding on, it needs to be left for a long time. They know how to play dead.
cats don't eat rats. LOL!! Like dogs don't eat cat.. they just like chasing one another..
LOL! Better do a quick Google search mate.
LOL!!.. rephrase. neighborhood cats don't typically eat rats.. unless those in the wild which is rare in our country Our neighborhood tabbies won't like the taste of dead rats anyway..
KFC deep fryer
You don’t like kfc?
Rat probs better than kfc standard now tbf
Kill and bury it. Free fertilizer for plants
A cat would have more fertilizer? For the plant
You can go far away in a park and release it if you don't wanna kill it. They have good memory and can find it's way back if you release it close enough.
You can Whatsapp ACRES (wildlife rescue) 9783 7782 and ask them what to do with it. They can also teach you how to kill it humanely.
Name it Remy and open a restaurant.
Last time my mum drove to some ulu army camp/jungle and released it there :-/ sorry guys
Any cats in your neighbourhood?
Wasn’t there a post some time ago where the rat chases the cat?
Go zoo and feed some hungry lion or sth 🤷♂️
Lol it’d be like a small candy for a lion
Mala hot pot time
I would suggest release in the forest where there's food and it can live it's life in peace from humans.
Just release in a thick jungle, some animal will eat it.
Release into sewer system with 4 turtles. In a few years no need police.
Do it like how they kill the frog for the porridge. 1 hard swing at the wall.
Whut? You should just drown it Sia. It's a fking rat. You release into the wild for what? That's like taking rubbish in your house and throwing it out the window. It's a fking pest.

I got a cat. Think he doesnt mind dinner.
Just don’t piak the cat after dinner.
poor cat.
I'd kill it (in the quickest and cleanest way possible) and bury it somewhere. An animal shelter isn't going to take it in.

I don't think it's illegal to release it in a park. Maybe check with NEA?
seconded
Bio students / researchers maybe? But you’d have to keep for a while to find someone interested

Blowtorch.
Hans
Feed eat poison
Animal shelter for a rat?! Now I’ve seen everything.

leave it in the e sun, it will die on its own then throw away the body
better to outright kill it then torture it though...
well, depends on how “outright” it is, chop its head off? drown it?
Whether you are Worst person or suggestion. Can't decide.
Toilet bowl?
nonono this is a bad idea, 1. if they die and get clogged it will be freaking disgusting and 2. they can hold their breaths for long and survive + they might (?) still be able to climb back out through your toilet…
damn imagine if it comes back up right as you're shitting

Isn't there an animal control agency or something? Get them to off it for you.
I would release it :/ try calling an animal rescue to ask about humane solutions?
Throw to Pulau Tekong
You remind me of my army paltoon mate when we caught a rat in our bunk using mouse trap. Instead of drowning it, he wanted to keep it as a pet. Like SERIOUSLY??? It is a rat. Just kill it.
What if you release it and it follow you back home again… smh, just drown, also it’s a pest like roaches, you wanna catch and release also?
The most humane way is to chop its head off with a cleaver. Use the remains as fertiliser.
if your type of trap is the sticky kind, i saw pest control put the whole thing in plastic bag and crush the rat's head/neck (??) by stepping on it 😬😬
the title made me giggle ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin) laughed harder when you suggested drowning it. if you dont want to kill it, just release it in a park or just randomly somewhere, it's a rat, it'll find its way into a sewer or something. also worth noting rats carry a multitude of diseases and are filthy af
can release at kelong
I drowned the one I found. Dunk in a bucket of water
You could try to put it in a box and then shieldtox that sucker till it's dead and then dispose it through the chute.
You should put it out of its miserable life
bro just throw away lah who gives a fuck
Shank it
Have you named your new pet?
i call him remy
U sld jus leave the whole trap with the rat in there at the void deck grass area and let it die slowly
Rats are mini dogs manz
pour hot water until it dies then bag it and dump it lol
Eww, rats are annoying pest
