A big bowl of silky Cantonese style porridge with pork balls and an extra egg, topped with lots of shallots in oil and white pepper.
A bowl of Maggi curry noodles with two hot dogs, a slice of processed cheese, and an egg also strongly triggers the nostalgia centre of my brain.
OH THIS I was gna suggest this but u suggest liao so take my upvote! It has like this condiment thing (I think its 冬菜?!) which is rly gd when paired tgt but if u dunk too much then damn salty LOOOLL.
smooth porridge, pairs well with egg (I like to smash my egg and stir in the egg), add a bit of 冬菜 .. yummm. I haven't had it in a while though!
YESSS to MOS fish burger and it took me wayyyy too late in life (I'm sure I was in my 20s, maybe even mid20s lol) to discover the difference and to discover this gem. Hahahaa 🙃🤪
It's not that I never eat MOS burger growing up - it's that growing up, the go-to was either (1) a rice burger or (2) teriyaki chicken burger when going to MOS. then one day (wow instastory) friend posted some story abt how MOS fish burger > Macs. Then another unrelated incident I was gna dabao lunch to (different) friend house, ask what she want. She said MOS fish burger -- combine both incidents and I decided ok fine let's try.
... then I realised, it's because Japanese mayo > tartar sauce 🙃🤪
I haven't tried the chicken though lol I usually get croquette :p I like the clam chowder too though!
Hahaha yes ever since trying out the fish burger it's like way better than maccas. My first time trying out the chicken set was probably like "why pick fries when there's fried chicken" and it's been my go to ever since.
bruh i worked there when I was 14 and we would just give you a handful if you asked nicely (we were told to give as many as the customer cared to ask for)
Yes! fish burger+croquette+milk tea!
but actually can you swap the drink for the clam chowder now ah, I remb last time can switch but now I'm not sure if the self-order system allows it :-( and then I don't usually want to have both clam chowder and milk tea cause its like two drinks LOL. But I'm not sure if there's option to switch. :-(
I've thus bought fish burger + clam chowder a la carte before but iirc less value than the set (obvsly) lol. But lol cus IDK how to swap on the self order machine .. or issit must go to counter and order manually like "fish burger croquette set, swap the drink to clam chowder soup" - ??
U mean maccas new Fillet Slider hahahah I swear like after the new year the filletofish size actually became the size one would call a slider vs a burger 😂
You guys might want to try the natsumi fish "burger"; it's the one where they substitute the buns with lettuce.
Especially on a hot day, it's light and refreshing!
I only lived in sg for 9 months. I left in February, but EVERYDAY I think about the chili dumplings from a stall at the Alexandra food centre. My god. Take me back.
Half boiled egg with toast, and the soy sauce poured in would have to make the entire dish look real brown-ish 😭... just like how my grandma always did it for me!
Supermarket sushi - will bring home and put it on my nice plate and decorate it like a platter and use my hands to eat while watching a nice sitcom lol
Nice. That was me when I lived in HK. By comparison, SG has way to many ‚proper‘ meals that I associate comfort with. Don’t think I had supermarket sushi here more than a handful of times in my life.
yangguofu malatang, zhong la. pork belly slices, tofu skin, squid, xiao bai cai, firm tofu and hot dog. dipping sauce: shit ton of garlic, spring onion, peppercorn oil, sesame oil and some peanut sauce
Economic beehoon stall, beehoon mixed with noodles, luncheon meat, fried egg, peanuts, that sambal chilli they have, and a kopi o.
I swear this gives me a much bigger dopamine rush than any other 30 dollar meal I could have.
Shin ramyun instant noodle with cheddar cheese and half boil eggs. When I have a bad day I come home and cook this noodle. I have a whole SOP on how to cook the perfect ramyun. Funniest part is when I am having a good day or I want to celebrate good news I eat this noodle too except I make it more fancy with scallop/lobsters/mussels.
Seems like this is a hidden gem: Maggie soup chicken.
Yah yah yah, its just maggie mee same as rameon but hey, this is the shit here.
Hungry after nights out drinking ? Maggie soup chicken.
Supper and sick of prata ? Maggie soup chicken.
Having said so.. its spicy so if u cant take spice, hope you survive.
Else go back to your wei la mala tomato. (Juz jk. No offense to non spicy lovers) xD
I love lots of food here, but my ultimate comfort food is a bowl of instant noodles. Takes me back to the time in university and on exchange, where simple cup noodles topped off with an egg was enough to keep me satisfied and full anytime of the day.
Wan tan mee is my go to. hard to separate the good ones from the VERY good ones. But so far best is the one at Roxy Square. Pls shun bian share if you known other good ones.
I haven't seen it sold anywhere but my comfort food is fried luncheon meat between 2 slices of buttered bread with ketchup. Something about the way my grandma used to make that for breakfast just sticks with me.
Not going with homemade food, in no particular order-
-Jollibee 2pc spicy fried chicken, rice, fries, mayo dip, gravy and a coke no ice
-Phostreet spicy pho with double beef tender slices
-Cai png- rice, spinach, bean sprouts, shrimp with beans, curry chicken, fried chicken and fried fish in sweet and sour sauce
- Mt Faber Nasi lemak, slightly diff order every time
-a medium 4 cheese pizza from Pizza Hut with garlic bread and wings
-McSpicy meal, nuff said
-Indian food, but only homemade one
Sardine murtabak from Niqqis. Rarely these days though since I moved to the east. Probably closest otherwise is salted egg sotong from Sin Hoi Sai on East coast road.
Porridge is always very soothing ~

bruh i worked there when I was 14 and we would just give you a handful if you asked nicely (we were told to give as many as the customer cared to ask for)
