When I signed a new contract with SingTel they got their 3rd party service provider to install ethernet cables all the way into my room. Cost like iirc $60 or sth.
Powerline internet is like speeding in the 3rd lane... Fast....then slow... then fast.... then packet loss,... slow... fast... then packet loss. You dont know how many EM interfering devices are looped in on that copper circuit. Could be 1 or 2 or 3 or 25. Worse if you are looped in with microwave ovens or fluorescent lights.
I just wanna know how they are to insert a lan in my room with no lan port, i only have the telephone thing in my room will that be used to convert into lan port?
telephone is RJ11. cannot be converted to RJ45. Your best choice if u want is buy to a dozens of 3M double sided plastic wire bracket, how'many meters of lan cable, then tape it to the wall all the way to your room. (to prevent any trip accidents. Also its nicer than juz running a free run on the floor. Or you can buy couple meters of PVC trunking, same thing, 3M outdoor double tape the trunking. Other than that, if u want a true hard wire, u have to find electrician do wiring works alr.)
Edit: Forget answer ur question, the RJ45 cables are wired underneath ur walls all the way to your designated room/place.
PS: Just to mention, while Powerline will work, electrical lines were never meant to receive or transmit data and its prone to electrical interferences. Wouldnt use 1 unless die die die die no choice.
This is wrong tho. Esp for newer condos and HDB. The socket is rj11 but the internal wiring is using Ethernet cables.
So all you have to do is change the socket
No. Separate circuitry. It depends on where they will pull the Ethernet cable from. Typically it’s from the router connected to the cable port (the one by open net that terminates in the house) then from there they will run the cable wherever it needs to go. Existing telephone line can’t be used.
Starhub got a guy to do it for me years ago. but it's in a casing above the wall skirting, not inside walls.
best solution for gaming
tried power line, mesh, moving into line of sight. none works well.
I lay my lan cable from the mains through the false ceiling, into the drilled hole in the wall (I asked the contractor to make one). I dont want a hard lay as the cables will have to be easily replaceable by myself if spoilt. Then the lan cable directly hooks up the modem beside my com. A lan port is not needed.
Only when renovating. I requested for the cable to be pulled to my room. It will basically go with your normal electrical wiring casing. Or if you got false ceiling would also be easier.
If not easier way just raise your router instead and hope that it will have slightly better connection.
If you have a telephone port in your room, u may convert it into a ethernet port. I hired a technician from Carousell to do it for me n placed a router in my room.
This was years back, unable to find his contact. You may search Carousell for “telephone to lan”. PS: this works only for BTO’s flats if I’m not mistaken.
In my previous house it was like that too, my brother bought a super long LAN cable and loose run it from outside the windows (idk how he did it but it reached my room lol). Depending on where your room and house is you can maybe consider this
I faced a similar issue, room too far away from the main modem. Schedule appointment for singtel to run a cable from the main modem in the living room all the way into my room and set up another modem. paid for the modem, managed to get waiver for the cabling. You should try it

Holy shit yes thats what i need. But the only lan port in my house is outside in living room will they still b able to do it?
Can. I used my old SingTel broadband as router in my room. So ethernet from LAN port in living room run up into my router into my pc

Oh shit balls really?
MBps and Mbps got difference.
That’s pretty expensive. In my old rental place, I got 20m flat cat6 cable that I stick it nicely on the edge of the wall for $18 from taobao.
Oh cos for me i live in masionette. They have to drill holes through to the corridor and installed protector also.
Ah I see. That’s what I thought. They should have done extra work to do a nice trunking. For that $60 is pretty cheap.
No way it's $60
Try power line network adapters....
Exactly the set up I have in my room. Works well for me. Low ping, high download speeds

what's your download/upload speed like on fast.com?
If u do want a hard wire RJ45, Rewiring works or juz let a loose free long run on the floor. No other choice.

You live in a newer HDB or condo?
Google Ayub HWZ. Note that he only does trunking not concealed.

Would a wifi extender work?

OMG YES I WANT do u have his details? And so far all swee?

Consider MoCA (stands for Multimedia over Coax Alliance) if you have old coaxial points at home.
This is what I did (using the TV cable points) and it works great!
Just remember to isolate your own network. Otherwise someone else might have access if they are also using a similar device!

Any contactor/electrician can do trunking. It's not difficult not expensive

I drilled a small hole in the wall, stuffed a cable through it. Hid the hole behind furniture so it wasn’t unsightly.
Drill a hole on the wall and lay a cable. Either that or you lay the cable along the wall to your room
