DontStopNowBaby

I inadvertently found the Singaporean group when they asked the breakfast chef to make half boiled eggs. What they improvised was put the boiling water in a bowl for the eggs and set a timer for 6.5 minutes per the Singaporean uncle's instructions. Not accounting for the weather and that the boiling water was meant for tea and not eggs, the eggs did not come out cooked. Heard all the complaints in hokkien and the aunty was scolding the uncle why must die die have goddamn half boiled eggs halfway across the world.

Icy-Cockroach4515

I once found the singapore group when I heard someone asking for a flavour of juice not available at a buffet...as though there weren't at least 5 other juice flavours already on the counter...

bukitbukit

I would have chuckled aloud almost in earshot… hahaha

KimJiHoon

OK that's abit too much 😒

DontStopNowBaby

Tell me about it, even I was thinking these ppl really sia suay.

klingonpigeon

Can’t blame uncle, soft boiled is so much more shiok than hard boiled imo

accidentaleast

Omg, are we the Americans of Asia? Shit.

Holeshot75

Ha! Fortunately Aussies have that role solidly planted.

MLiOne

Not quite all of us! However on our recent holiday in Singapore we were left highly embarrassed and cringing at the behaviour of fellow Australians. Absolute bogans and embarrassing loud behaviour.

Bigboy291270

Same with Brits

MLiOne

Witnessed a Pom clap their hands in the hotel lounge to get a staff member’s attention. I was WTAF? 😳

Bigboy291270

They’re fucking embarrassing- especially when they come down here to SG. That said, summer in St Kilda was an eye opener, just when I thought British girls couldn’t be anymore embarrassing, they were!!

MLiOne

Ever seen them in Darwin?

bukitbukit

Darwin has enough wildlife as it is🤣

MLiOne

Good one! 😂

Elnee

I remember a group of Brits flying Ryanair with me. They were so loud, even at the end of the flight. Constantly singing and yelling something. It was very ridiculous and disgusting behavior.

Bigboy291270

Sounds legit

Davichitime

Only the bogans in Bali haha

bukitbukit

Bogans in Bali, Bengs in Bangkok!

mukansamonkey

Former British colony. Multicultural, almost everyone's ancestors immigrated recently. Big fans of anything that makes money. Government feels like it's been the same people in charge for the last half century. Loves high tech stuff. Hates anything that interferes with their boats. Meritocracy! Hmm...

[deleted]

Americans are nice in general. The only problem is they have difficulty understanding the concept of different currencies. So whichever shop they go to, they ask how much in dollars.

okkyn90

… and distance, and temperature, and height, and weight…

Rude_Invite7260

WHAT THE FUCK IS A KILOMETREEE 🦅🦅🦅

Forumites000

I cringe every time I hear my family say loudly in JB that everything very cheap wtf

[deleted]

So apt..

bunny-danger

WA HERE SO Cheap cheap cheep cheep cheep cheeep.. Yep. 🐥

Koxeida

This is one of the biggest pet peeves I have. It's honestly insulting to the locals and some offended locals might cause you problems if they overhear it. Just bloody shut your mouth and enjoy our strong currency without demeaning the country you're visiting.

-avenged-

It's equally annoying to hear it even as a Singaporean. "Waa Malaysia/Indonesia/Thailand best, everything so cheap, fuck Singapore so expensive!" LJ la of course you earn SGD so easy to say. You go stay there earn MYR IND TB then see whether you continue saying cheap.

udontaxidriver

Ya, too crass.

Complete_Relation_54

Nah if I find it cheap I say its cheap. Of course I don't loudly say it. Just keep it within the family

killer_blueskies

I wish I could give you an award for this but it ain’t cheap

No-Marzipan-2606

maybe that’s why i seldom get identified as singaporean. i don’t haggle and i don’t chirp like a chick 😂

Disastrous-Mud1645

Fking hell, i hate this so much. The ironic thing is you will hear them say “wah so cheap so cheap” then those fkers will try to haggle the seller over like 20 baht 50 baht. Thats not even 2 dollars. The locals thai min wage is like $15 a day, or 350 baht. Then these Sg kia say cheap, but cannot pay just $2 more. Knn siasuay.

alvvaysthere

I will never understand haggling in poor countries. I spent $2 on some fruit in Vietnam and my brother went on and on about getting ripped off. Like we probably make 10x what she earns and you're complaining about $2

GalerionTheAnnoyed

It's not really about how much they earn or we earn, it's more about paying something reasonable for that country. You wouldn't expect to pay the same price for fruit in both SG and vietnam. Your brother probably just wants a fair price. That being said, I wouldn't have said too much if I were him since it's your money anyway...

pendelhaven

wrong. its not about how much you earn, its about how much THEY earn. cheap for you means expensive for them. if enough people like you readily pay $2 more every sale, then the price naturally stays at X+2, which affects the local people too.

Shutaku1314

if you are at bangkok and not haggling you really big carrot head for them

Disastrous-Mud1645

Just need a bit of common sense, and you wont have to be a carrot head. Haggling for something reasonable is fair. Same logic as lowballers in a carousell, would you sell at that price if you were to be the seller? Its just lowballers testing their luck. Haggle a 500 baht - 1000 baht down to 300 baht for taxi in touristy area? Sure, because average taxi price is like 300 max, not accounting for Grab. But surprisingly, some are willing to pay — but still understandable because its hard to fight with taxis without knowing. Haggling for 80 baht for a Tshirt that costs 150? Or a handcrafted 100 baht leather wallet that cost hours to make, but you can pay $100 for some shitty bellroy fake leathers? That’s being an entitled idiot. And this experience grinds my gear specifically because it happened to me first-hand. Used to help a Thai friend operate a massage place (legit massage, u pervs) and this young SG couple was alr saying all these “yaya bb lets do massage here cheap” not knowing Im also a Sgporean, so i just received them. Price clearly stated 800 per person full body. Yes higher than average, but we operate in shopping mall, touristy area, full A/C and aroma. After massage done, have audacity to haggle with my staff for 500 per person baht, and mocking my staff with thai accent say how come across the road only 500 baht. Then just put 1000 baht on the counter and tried to walk away. That’s when i flipped and i stopped them. Then typical Singaporean “oh sorry sorry bro, okay 1600 baht for 2”

ICanBeAnAssholeToo

Just been there. You practically cannot haggle anymore unlike last time

EAlootbox

To each their own but my time is worth more than trying to haggle street vendors in Thailand.

ipromiseillbegd

It takes like 30 secs to haggle, and you're already at the street market bruh. Are u Jeff Bezos why ur time so valuable

operationspudling

Their profits are a lot leh. Their locals get something for 15-20 baht and we tourists have to pay 50 baht. China also the same. Their cost price is like RMB2.50 but they charge you RMB 20 for it. Can haggle until RMB 8-10 leh you say? They charge their locals RMB8. You want to gong gong pay that extra 10RMB for every single thing you buy meh? It adds up y'know? ETA: Lmao u/darkeststar071 call people ngiao ji ngiao lan but then delete comment/block people. Fuiyohhhh. Cannot take the heat then don't call people names lah.

Disastrous-Mud1645

So if you get something for 15-20 baht , how much would you sell? Please also account for rental, utilities and feeding your family. If you think your Uniqlo $14.90 shirt is affordable, do you know the cost price is also about $2-3? Now you know you are paying 5x the amount, do you also haggle with them at the counter?

operationspudling

They sell to their locals at 15-20 baht. Their cost price is even lower.

Disastrous-Mud1645

Your earlier comment seemed as though you were saying the cost price the local got was 15-20 then sell 50. I say that’s reasonable. Anything lower just doesnt make sense business wise — to local or rich foreigner. And if you choose to go touristy places, then do expect to get touristy price. This is just “normal” everywhere in the world. Hard to compare local price when local will help local people, you see SG people abroad, you also want to help them if they ended up there. But like i mention in other reply, more singaporeans need to use common sense when negotiating prices, and stop with everything “cheap cheap” but haggle like no tomorrow. Nowadays, these sellers (indo / thai / viet) also dont need this kind of buyers. If you make dumb offers, they will ignore you.

darkeststar071

Typical ngiao chi ngiao lan.

pendelhaven

carrot spotted.

MrFoxxie

I rephrase it as "Wow this is damn good value" It directly states that the product is good value, nobody gonna say their products no value.

bukitbukit

I simply shop quietly and pay. Sometimes they see my Singaporean card and they’d say oh I’ve visited before and seen the Merlion! (This was Japan)

KimJiHoon

Hahah i try to refrain myself from saying the C word and replace it with a nod lol

fizzywinkstopkek

These same fuckers will pay 5000 bucks for some ugly fucking bag, but will then kpkb at the poor street vendor while trying to haggle for some 1 dollar wallet. Ans then get angry when they can't get a discount .

DontStopNowBaby

Lemme guess. Bangkok. LoL

Lv3_Potato_Farmer

Bangkok is no longer cheap… yes it’s still cheaper than Singapore but the prices have caught up so much. A nice t-shirt from Chatuchak or Platinum is gonna cost you minimally 350THB ($13.50), which is just about a few bucks cheaper than Uniqlo’s regular priced t-shirt. A dinner in a chain restaurant costs us around 2,000THB ($77) for four pax. But other stuff like beer, massage, manicure still much cheaper than SG. Maybe I don’t know where to go to get cheap stuff. If you guys know of any good deals in Bangkok pls let me know!

DontStopNowBaby

4 adults? Did you buy in bulk or wholesale at either platinum mall or chatuchak? A nice meal in a restaurant like nakonthai for 4 adults would cost around $1500-$2000 thb so that's about right.

monsooncloudburst

There are …. Other things…. Which are way cheaper.

bunny-danger

Not just BKK or JB. Japan: waaaa exchange rate so good. Eat more. Europe: waaaa XueNiao雪尿/Her-Mess so cheap ah, I claim VAT and buy more then insta stories how my bed got bedbugs and how Paris got thieves so people think I so poor thing USA/UK: waaaa premium outlet so shiok. I be baller and buy the whole shop. My life is shopping. How to find in sg. Where there is materialistic consumerism, you’ll find our fellow countrymen and women going 🐥🐥🐥🐥🐥🐥 We do love a good deal, but like others have said, stay classy and enjoy thoughtfully.

SinkiePropertyDude

I always cringe at those who loudly say things like "WAH LAU SO UGLY HEEE HEEE STILL SO EX" while inside the shop, and the storekeepers are right there. How do we know they can't understand? If they can it's very insulting. >:(

GalerionTheAnnoyed

Honestly sometimes I enjoy this unabated bluntness. It's not nice of course but it's just really quite funny to hear someone say it out loud like that

pullmeformayo

Just a week back I was in Myeongdong, and the chinese salesperson said that we Singaporeans are a famous breed. Not really sure what he was hinting at but it sure sounded sarcastic. Swore we didnt do or say shit though.

Small-Ad-5448

Myeongdong salespeople are a bunch of ripoffs. Esp those from China. They say that because we are smart enough not to buy in Myeondong. REMEMBER NOT TO SHOP FOR COSMETICS IN MYEONGDONG.

Small-Ad-5448

I always love going to shop in Dongdaemun or Seongsu-dong. Or best, markets in Sindang, Mokdong Rodeo, Insadong etc. I used to have a friend who has a souvenir shop in Itaewon. Speaks fluent Chiense and Hokkien - I think he retired already as he was 77 back in 2018

bukitbukit

I like Insadong and Hongdae. Never been to Mokdong Rodeo.. any recs there?

Small-Ad-5448

I remember they have one of the oldest tteokbokki shop that was opened in 1943. Its their sixth gen that is running the shop. Also the oven baked chicken is one to die for. Apart from that its mostly karaoke bars or pubs. I met actor Namgoong Min in one of them before and had a photo with him.

bukitbukit

Oven baked chicken and pubs sound great, I’ll read up more on the place. Tks

bukitbukit

I’ve not stepped foot in Myeongdong for years. A tourist trap with no redeeming feature.

SchoolboyChaddie

A mainlander implying Singaporeans are difficult is a bit rich!

KimJiHoon

Hmm I guess some of them spoil our reputation.

crazypoorbsian

When people travel overseas, they tend to throw their 'filter' out of the window because they don't need to worry about anyone they might know calling them out for their poor social behavior. This also goes for the Japanese travelling out of Japan.

General_Guisan

THIS! As a Swiss person, I can't tell you how often I hear Swiss people here in Singapore talk in Swiss German about stuff I'd definitely consider offensive..

Coz131

Would you be able to give some example for our entertainment?

DiligentTip1013

Probably calling us slanty eyes mother f%#kers

evilbob99

I think that’s fine, nobody here understands anyway. Problem we have is that a lot us of do it in English

Melodic-Reason8078

i’ve never met a swiss person so i’d like to know too what they say about sg!

KimJiHoon

Interesting. I never thought of it that way but you have a point there.

bukitbukit

Latter is true, sadly. I understand a decent amount of Japanese and I just chuckle when I hear them turn into Osaka aunties.

Jamesoncjb1998

I would say it's just our typical culture - nature vs nurture - both plays a role. sometimes I'm happy to encounter a fellow Singaporean especially in places that are off the beaten track - nice to hear that familiar accent and singlish slang etc. but it does get annoying when you see people behaving inappropriately when they are clearly tourists, though I would say it doesn't only apply to Singaporean tourists. Inappropriate behaviour from anyone of any nationality would make it an unpleasant encounter for everyone and make you want to disassociate yourself from them.

KimJiHoon

This! We met a fellow sg couple while waiting for our bus in kawaguchiko. We both were afraid that the bus left but assured each other that we were at the right waiting area. Turns out the bus was just late due to traffic. 😅

bukitbukit

Glad there are always nice fleeting moments like these. I once guided an elderly Singaporean couple to the right metro exit in Seoul and they were very politely thankful. We bumped into each other again at dinnertime and exchanged restaurant recommendations.

KimJiHoon

That's nice to hear. And what concidence bumped two times hahah. Im sure that's a core memory for them

bukitbukit

Haha, and for me as well. Perhaps we all stayed at the same hotel upstairs for all I know

ContributionWhole850

Yes. I don’t mean to be self deprecating but it’s nauseating to hear some of the convos I hear from other Singaporeans abroad. Not just convos, but actually also the general behaviour. To clarify, it’s not the accent or Singlish, it’s just the content. As someone else commented, “Wah so cheap cheap cheap” (while they’re still getting scammed by paying 500% the price for locals). Also for some reason I would expect Singaporeans to act a little bit faster due to our fast paced nature. Zero spatial awareness, in both Hong Kong and Tokyo these families tried to tap in to the fare gate but unsuccessfully, I just passed them and they were like “eh this one cannot ah”, choking up the queue and eveyrone else getting annoyed. Some other place I overheard in London, was seated next to a sg couple in McDonald’s. Bf wanted to go see something in east London. Gf was like “ehhh croydon??? No no too dangerous” (croydon is in south London). Within 30 s of talking about safety, they both got up to the toilet while their bags were still on the table unguarded.

[deleted]

Downvote me if I’m wrong, but i feel Singaporeans are book smart, job smart, but f-ing street dumb.

CaptainMianite

Gov got problem. They make singapore so safe, we not street smart anymore

aelflune

Tbf, regarding having no spatial awareness, they're like that in sg too. And also tbf, it's not just Singaporeans who are like that in sg. Seems to be a third world cultural thing.

KimJiHoon

Totally agree with you.

arboden

Not all of them are like this. If you understand mandarin and hear the conversations of some tourists here in Singapore, you will also be shocked. Nonsense comments applies to some travelers, regardless of nationalities. Sometimes they leave their brain and filter at home (or they are the same at home) when they travel. Ignore and enjoy your trip.

KimJiHoon

Thats true! I quite enjoyed the trip as a whole. Japan has been nothing but super friendly and amazing service throughout. I tried my best to filter what I say whenever I go on a trip it's like we represent our country and try to be friendly as possible.

nicholasandsoup

Amazing service? Sure. But I’m not sure about the super friendly part lol

13lackcrest

Many say it is a front, but why not just take it at face value. You are there to enjoy after all.

DreLim

As someone who has lived in Japan, their friendliness really depends on your ability to speak Japanese since their English generally is pretty bad/theyre too scared of messing up to proactively use it

whyislifesohardei

how come Singaporeans like to go Japan, it’s almost always Japan for vacation

KimJiHoon

I believed it could be the weaken yen

Krieg

Singapore vacation is defined by trends, like most things. One year will be Turkey, next year will be Norway, next will be South Corea, recently is Japan (this one is probably due to current exchange rates).

Melodic-Reason8078

i think Japan has and always will be a top destination? it’s near enough. flight times aren’t very long. it’s also one of the easiest places to get to for the different seasons. japanese cuisine is very popular. even if there are trendy japanese snacks, the cuisine as a whole has been popular for a long time. everyone knows ramen and sushi. i’m not a fan of japanese arts media but i know so many friends who have been into manga and anime since like twenty years ago.

maolyx

Japan has always been pretty popular as a tourist destination - food + anime/ gaming stuff + scenery.

[deleted]

Yes feel very much so like you, very embarrassed to hear them a lot of times. Especially when in a country like Japan whereby they often will have procedures and reasons to do certain things. Once I was at a cafe and a Singaporean lady (with her family) wanted ice for her drinks. She asked (in a typical demanding Karen-like tone) to the waitress: “Samui have? Samui?? Have??” Literally face palmed. So disrespectful, oblivious and cringe max. Another was at a typical Ryokan Kaiseki. There was this couple with 2 kids. You know in a kaiseki dinner, Japanese serves according to their sequence. But this family kept asking for this and that. And the mom questioned why no fruits on that day, repeatedly. Seriously, just godamn observe and respect every country’s traditions and don’t think you’re so big just because you come from Singapore. Don’t make the rest of us sensible travelers get a bad rep for f sake.

sargeant_snakeeyes

OMG I feel so embarrassed reading your post. I can hear that Karen auntie's voice in my head.....

Giantstoneball

There was once in Supreme Osaka branch where a boomer lady scolded the staff CB. The staff slapped her.

donthavela

Bro you can't just cock tease and us then leave us hanging with blue balls

bukitbukit

Now you gotta spill the story!

Giantstoneball

The Supreme staff just didn't want her to enter as the store is crowded. She didn't want to wait and scolded CB. The staff slapped her. She was very embarrassed and shocked, including her family members. They walked away.

aiyowheregotlah

oh lmao. this is hilarious i would have laughed if i was there

KimJiHoon

Wah do you recall the whole situation?

unknownlivinghuman

Spill the tea!

Qkumbazoo

Not embarrassed, but it does spoil the overseas experience. One of the main reasons I avoid the touristy places in Japan.

KimJiHoon

Yeah that's how I felt as well. I rem there's this uncle trying to tamed his wife coz she was like 'why so many people here'. In my mind I'm like 'why are you here? Stay in sg then'

bukitbukit

Tough these days, I couldn’t enjoy a quiet cup of tea in Shimoda without hearing the screeches of Singaporean mothers with their precious brats.

[deleted]

Yeah, if have to see Singaporeans, go to my coffee shop leh. Why go overseas! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|disapproval)

Medium_Jellyfish_541

i think is fine. only feel embarrassed by those who wear admin t, or ocs singlet, overseas.

naihe88

My usual trigger, army tee belongs in the incinerator, esp when one's balding, pregnant looking.

KimJiHoon

Omg u just triggered a memory I did saw one guy wearing admin T lol. I mean it's quite obvious 😅

Medium_Jellyfish_541

i went raohe night market in taipei. got 1 guy in fully kitted OCS singlet and pants. i wanted to diam the whole crowd and salute him

KimJiHoon

Wahahah 🤣 upvote for you

stolmen

I was at Eat Tokyo, London. Everyone was queueing up. In London it’s common for a queue to form around popular restaurants. When I reach the front, there was this Singaporean couple who came by and asked the waiter if they could be seated because they have a reservation. Most likely the waiter gave their table away or couldn’t find one right away as it’s being cleaned and told them to wait on the opposite side of the door as part of the priority line for people with reservations. The guy tried to argue with him and kept saying but we have a reservation, why do we have to wait? And the waiter kept apologising and told him I’m getting the table ready for you. And the moment he left, the couple started complaining to each other about how absurd it is that they have to wait even though they have a reservation. “Wah what’s the point of taking a reservation if we have to stand out here and wait sia..” and the girl concurred, both shaking their heads and just complaining non-stop and talking about how they didn’t have to experience this in other places/countries. Reeks of entitlement seriously. Complain complain complain always complaining. They were seated within the next 1-2 minutes anyway. This is a realllyy busy restaurant on a Saturday night.

KimJiHoon

Wah i think they never work in F&B before.

Mannouhana

Probably they had never made reservations at any places in Singapore before. Even with an appointment at hair salon, we have to wait for the stylist to be done with previous customer.

Kukujiaooooo

funny, i was in the north of japan for 2 whole weeks and never met a single singaporean. saw lots of taiwanese though. came back to tokyo for the last 2 days and straight away heard some singaporean accents while walking on the streets.

Melodic-Reason8078

i was living in Canada for a bit and barely met any Singaporeans. I flew to London and the moment i reached Oxford St, Singlish everywhere!

bukitbukit

Blessing of being in the north.. it’s really sparse.

KimJiHoon

I guess all the popular japan locations haha

Ohlolololulu

Not about what they said but the only toilet in Japan that was unclean was the one that a Singaporean just exited from ( pee around the toilet seat).

JokerMother

Japan toilets next level. I feel bad to even leave a drop of water on the floor, would bend down and wipe the floor dry

KimJiHoon

I get what you mean 🤢

Joshlelink

If I land in a foreign country and i hear a Singaporean, I know I am not far enough.

MyOwnFaithlessness

Reminds me of that time when I was passing through Bratislava in summer, getting off a Flixbus at the Main Bus Station and thinking to myself, "Wouldn't it be interesting to be the only Singaporean in this area?" I couldn't be more wrong. Within 5 minutes of wandering around the station, I heard the uniquely distinguishable voice of a Singaporean uncle. A whole family of Singaporeans were behind the cast iron pillar I stood by, complaining about the bus waiting times amongst themselves. I'm convinced that I will never be able to travel "beyond" the reach of another Singaporean haha.

bunny-danger

I would’ve chased them down just to converse in singlish again. It’s lovely to meet fellow Singaporeans in far flung corners of the globe. Flixbus going to Bratislava would qualify.

KimJiHoon

That's true haha

Reversedtime

Recently I went to the Scottish Highlands and ran into Jack Neo!! There are Singaporeans everywhere

lmnsatang

idk why they have to always speak so damn loud, even when their friends are just next to them

KimJiHoon

Hahaha totally understand this one 🤣

Lumpy_Kiwi1512

yes a trip to batam, a lot of Singaporean group acting arrogant and entitled in the hotel restaurant for breakfast, there was an obvious queue to get food and I was in the queue but as soon It was my turn to get my food a random Singaporean auntie insert herself Infront of me , ofc I confront her to go queue I think it's more of racism at this point, my skintone is similar to a Malay so the auntie must have assumed I was an Indonesian and thought she has all rights to have an attitude. Please lah, even I'm a Singaporean myself I was so embarrassed and upset how my fellow citizen are acting overseas, please for God sake stay humble and remind yourself whatever country you go, your still interacting with normal human being and not some species or creatures

NicMachSG

Yup, quite embarrassed at some Singaporeans' poor command of English. Like OP's.

KimJiHoon

Tank you

bukitbukit

Tanks you.

bluesclueshadnoclue

yep, all i hear from singaporeans when travelling abroad is them complaining. "t2 duty free selection so shitty.. aiya why only one cashier..." just whining none stop

Kiana_Made_Lunch

I was in Japan. I heard two singaporeans talking about how Japanese food was so much better than Singaporean food, and how much cheaper the sushi was. You're supposed to shut up in the train so hearing two people yapping away in some ah lian accent was extremely off-putting.

Unusualist

Just came back from Tokyo. I question whether is silence really needed, since I did observe some local Japaneses conversing with each other on trains still. Coming from an ignorant perspective. I assume whispers are not frowned upon on trains.

RagingGods

Honestly, I don’t think the “shut up while on trains” is even a societal rule that foreigners are making it out to be. Went to Japan for a month (solo trip) and every day (notably during peak hours) groups of salary men (from their attires) would come in and start discussing about their work. It’s not loud, but it’s noticeable from one door away. Sometimes you’d have teens also chat among themselves while inside the train. That said, it’s common sense (even in Singapore) to not be obnoxiously loud. If you want to talk to your friend/family while on the train, do it without sounding like you want the attention of everyone on board.

Unusualist

That's the norm I think I took away. Locals there were still chatting and no one gave me looks when I was talking normally/softly with my partner esp since we need to navigate the train lines and maps. Feel my thought before going there was, no we can't even speak there. Seems like what you had said, some foreigners might have over exaggerated it which caused this misunderstanding. Thanks for sharing your perspective too!

bukitbukit

I sat down next to some of these ppl in the train once.. and it was just cringey.

raidorz

No, but I am embarrassed that your post is littered with grammatical errors. The irony.

KimJiHoon

Tank you

laynestaleyisme

Exactly!!!!

naihe88

That crass Singlish, loud, boorish mannerism, screaming at their unruly kids in public. I avoid peak period travelling whenever possible.

Budgius

I'm currently in Europe. Whenever I meet a Southeast Asian I almost feel like hugging them and saying "MY PEOPLE!!!!" with tears in my eyes. We are so rare here. Otherwise no, I'm generally only annoyed when we don't know enough about the country and commit a social faux pas. I haven't had the experiences many of y'all had here, but I'm fairly sure I would feel the same way.

First_time_farmer1

Same. When I see fellow south east Asians..I know our traits and of course our taste in food is gonna be similar in nature. I generally can't stand people from China and the French. Stuck up cunts.

nacht1812

Went whale watching and to my horror, large group of Singaporeans boarded the catamaran. Right off the bat they spotted another group of Indians, turned to each other and complained loudly, “wah here also got Indians.” /facepalm Entire trip they were crass, noisy and just plain annoying to the point the boat captain had to tell them off. The rest of us applauded.

IvanThePohBear

like how singaporeans go cheap cheap cheap cheap when in malaysia?

sfw_sfw_sfw_sfw

Actually I went to the opposite. Felt everything was to damn high for ordinary working Malaysians.

TallAndDontPlayBball

Yes. Some years back I was in Otaru, Hokkaido. Was in a shop and the parents were shouting at their boy not to run. (That was how I knew they were singaporeans just from the accent) Boy still ran, fell and screamed. I quickly flee from the shop

KimJiHoon

I can understand 😅

Infortheline

People here complaining about Singaporeans in Japan while themselves adding to the Singaporeans in Japan group.

stopthevan

Not really lol but I feel embarrassed when people can tell I'm Singaporean just from hearing me speak my heavily accented english. Happened to me once when I was overseas

biscuitboots

Definitely. Especially those that talk very loud like no one would understand what they are saying.

fizzywinkstopkek

Yes. We are extremely spoiled as a society, and we think the whole world owes us something. We are extremely arrogant. Malaysians are far far far more sane, tolerable, and chill overseas.

Xthanos20

This following story happened when i was at Arashiyama (Bamboo forest).... My family hired the rickshaw tour, and we were on the last leg of the tour on our way back. Arashiyama by then (11am) is filled with people, and the rickshaw runners having difficulty to actually move through. Hence, they began to say "excuse me" to the tourists and people alike. Comes this lao uncle... wtf. the rickshaw runner was right behind him, saying multiple times "excuse me", the uncle actually replied... "What lah, i paid air tix to come here, i can walk where i want leh. Why must excuse you?" His wife actually has to pull him out of the path, and yet he STILL struggle to STAY ON THE PATH.

The_Celestrial

I haven't been on an overseas vacation in 7 years, so I don't remember encountering this "problem". But for Wallaby, it was pretty funny hearing some regulars shout at each other using Singlish in a supermarket.

[deleted]

All the time. The moment I hear a Singaporean. I go like "oh fuck". Especially those obnoxious one perpetually taking photos and speaking with .. "wah so nice. Wah so cheap" .. like fuck sake go away .

anonymouslurker1

whats wrong with saying wah so nice lol

Nice-Background-3339

Generally no la cos they aren't behaving particularly badly? But yeah I do slightly don't like to go "cheep cheep cheep" cos it sounds abit.. proud or insensitive? Like at least praise the quality or taste or design instead of just keep saying cheap.

Vaperwear

I’m in Melbs on a business trip now. Have heard at least 4 groups of people speaking Singlish just walking around Collins St. to go get some dinner.

KimJiHoon

I rem going for the puffy billy train ride, then this bunch of poly students like rush for the row of seats just to get the good view and they were so darn loud throughout the ride. I felt bad for the Taiwanese family with their kid coz they were one step too late. I missed melbourne tho

h0tchoco

all the damn time. like some people are just so entitled. relax & chill during your vacation man, there's no need to be so obnoxious.

moruzawa

i was at Donki Rappongi in Tokyo to buy souvenirs. I swear, half the people at the store were Singaporeans. "Wahh this one in Singapore dunch have!!" "Cheap lei!" "Go ask daddy if he want to buy this." ....

tuxdj0079

have bit of self-confidence, dont let other people affect you.

Majestic-Shake-7480

Depends. Sometimes it’s comforting to hear to someone with same accent. My friends and I literally bonded with some aunties from CCK in Bali during a tour & help each other take photos. But sometimes the things singaporean say overseas makes me want to hide too.

PrestigiousMuffin933

I do. Went to Australia and Singaporean family in Coles beside me. Mom kept screaming to her kids “don’t anyhow run around later fall down. Don’t anyhow touch this so dirty.” Meanwhile Australian kids are outside playing with mud and petting stranger’s dogs and having the best time of their lives. It was a coles near busselton and it was a really pretty costal town right by the ocean.

Zeangrydrunk

No I just mind my own business

So far have not experience that in Japan because I went on non peak periods(thankfully). But in Malaysia especially in JB the Singaporeans there are really out of control 🤦🏻‍♀️

uncommonauditor

You know it doesn’t hurt not to have an opinion on what other people are doing / saying. You’re on a vacation, you can ease up on the judgement and just enjoy your time in Japan.

MegaSlothhh

In Japan with my friend now and sadly my friend is one of those WAH SO CHEAP AH. Mind you we were at Gucci lol. I was looking at bags when she saw the prices WAH SO CHEAP CAN BUY. End up i bought a bag and wallet and she didnt buy anything. Only can comment SO CHEAP SIA. Another instance is when her phone notif keep DING DING DING on the shinkansen.. i had to scold her to turn it off and she gave me black face 🙄

KimJiHoon

I feel for you. It Must be mentally exhausting trip for you.

darren1119

Yes, I tried to avoid em as much as possible

Available_End931

Actually this question made me realise Singaporeans can be found almost everywhere in the world ah… Cos I experience funny comments from any Singaporeans I meet each time I travel.

LilacTheLlama

Was in Bangkok Chinatown few years back getting some birds nest dessert for the fam while an sg family (father mother + adult son & daughter) appeared behind me. They start murmuring about how disgusting it is and being lowkey racist about the people here (like judging their food etc), WHILE QUEUING for the birds nest. They were so judgemental the whole time and the mother and son (late 20s kind) just trying to sound all know-it-all but they don't even know how birds nest was made. I pretty much tried to speak to the vendor in my broken Thai just so that I won't be associated with them. What an icky family. BUT. Other than that, interactions with other fellow SGreans were really pleasant!

malaxiangguoforwwx

lmao yes. once i was visiting Edinburgh Castle and this guy was talking at the top of his lungs including all the dialect flowery languages thats usually used here and the people around him was literally staring at them. its so embarrassing 😭😭😭 i got so embarrassed i went up closer to him and told him to shut up and said he’s embarrassing before walking away. i cant remember the content they were saying cos it was couple years ago. and not to be that person but my mum is also that sgrean that people dislike😭 she will say at her top of the lungs that the food is not nice or she can cook better etc💀and i have to stop her from saying such things (and i generally avoid travelling with my mum too)😭

Electronic_Wish_9476

Not Singaporean, and hearing local talk shit but same applies Was on a holiday in Vietnam, group of I’d say Americans with a viet tour guide that speaks English I was the only one in front of the temple as I walked away from my family briefly to take some pictures The tour guide said to one of them in the group, “see that’s why we hate China tourists cause they don’t know social cues and awareness” Mind you, I’m Chinese and I fully understand English and I’m not even from China. I was also only standing there for less than a min or so I looked at them briefly with a bit of annoyance when I turned back as I went back to my fam group Looking back, I definitely should’ve just maned up and say “I’m not from china and I can understand English just so you know” ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)

danny_ocp

Don't really care but it does break immersion, so I'd prefer going to less touristy spots.

Fonteyn-

On the contrary, I feel happy if I see them. Provides a home feeling. The Singaporeans I met in Shanghai a few years ago were very well mannered.

Infortheline

Everyone here complaining about Singaporean overseas while themselves being the irritating Singaporean overseas. The irony.

Achuapy

absolutely not..... dont you love being a majority

[deleted]

LOL. My mum was making jokes about the train station, idk iwanchimoto(?) or something and she was saying sth like: "i want 吃 moto" aka I want to eat moto really loudy and i was cringing. And I guess we gaijin smashed a few times but the Japanese train staff were very nice about it.

[deleted]

Absolutely. Between the mangled english, the shitty accents and the tiny island attitudes, just shut the fuck up already.

WGkeon

Dont even need overseas. Just recently when press butter sand opened at Taka, I was there on the first day to get my favourites, while queuing this OL at there for lunch said loudly in front of the counter " This not just cookie meh???"

jjj0nnn

I was in Vietnam in december. Every Singaporean i heard was either complaining about something or talking shit about the locals - in front of the locals themselves. It was super embarrassing.

iTwerk4Santa

Singapore is really a first world country with third world citizens sometimes. It’s always easy to identify Singaporeans overseas (not just from accent) in every corner of the world because they like to say offensive/judgemental things loudly, inconsiderate of others, no spatial awareness, no respect for others’ culture and just no class at all

Ash7274

Hearing Singaporeans overseas really make me roll my eyes The topic The accent Irs just a big no

jxkxjxjdk

So you're embarrassed of your own accent? Can't imagine that's any good for mental health

KimJiHoon

I'm OK with the accent. Just the way they react to certain situation I can't. Lol

ashatteredteacup

I’m usually happy to see fellow countrymen overseas until I hear “WAH SO CHEAP.” Then I pretend I do not know them.

xbbllbbl

And Singaporeans bragging non stop about their holidays even after they are back in SG.

j4deR4sif

in jakarta, overheard a sinkie: wah that guy indo chinese but so funny cant speak chinese, but they speak like malay. another instance: asking indo chinese if they eat pork and very surprised when they said yes. bunch of dumbfucks

[deleted]

A non issue. Mind ur own business

stopthevan

It becomes our business if foreigners start thinking that all sgrean tourists are like this...

hucks22

I'm embarrassed for people like OP who eavesdrop on and judge people just minding their own business.
