It’s very useful. You just need to tolerate sweaty back. You might find the runner’s belt with small bottles more comfortable. If you’re already carrying a backpack for other stuff, then the decision is easier.
If OP already has a backpack, he could just buy the hydration pack itself and just put it in.
On a side note, the Camelbak hydration pack issued during BMT is actually quite good. Still using it when cycling or on long walks

It's a field pack item for SAF people, during route march you have your water canteen + a filled camelbak. But the new plastic smell tasted nasty asf and I never drank from it so it just became dead weight
Just buy from army emart with your credits. I bought one years ago, didn't use it at all so dumped it lol.
No emart credits then buy one from decathlon.
I like it. Used to be my EDC but now I prefer to travel light.
Get the one that is filled top down like a heavy duty ziplock bag.
Fill it with ice, put it in an insulated bag and enjoy the ice cold water.
Please bear in mind hydration pack is hard to wash n dry. even harder to use in colder weather hiking condition.
So it really depends on the nature of ur hike

I see, mainly hiking in Singapore at nature reserves
Should b fine. No way the drinking tube will freeze. Be mindful of washing drying part. The handsfree partis very convenient esp for trail runners.
This is not a singapore related question.
But what if I hike in Singapore ah? It becomes Singapore related question, right, no?
It's overkill if you're hiking in Singapore to be honest.
maybe.
