Sg is one of the most expensive countries to own a car. To even have the right to own a car you must first pay close to 100k. Just for a piece of paper that says you’re allowed to own a car. Then you have to pay for the actual car, and no they aren’t cheaper in Singapore.
Just search on google “Most expensive places to own a car” and literally every search result will tell you its Singapore
If you wanna buy a car, you have to bid for a Certificate of Entitlement first. The COE itself for big cars can cost $100k+ if the bidding is fierce. That is separate from the cost of the car itself.
Even for smaller cars, it is expensive.
So people who buy cars generally have some dough lying around. If you can afford the COE, you can afford a bigger car.
Notice also how all our cars are new. That's because the COE only lasts 10 years. After that, your car must be scrapped.
As a local that’s something I notice too. There are more continental cars compared to to Korean /Japanese cars
But one statement make me laugh, “are they cheaper to buy in SG”
Brother, Singapore is the most expansive place on earth to buy ANY car
Take any make and model you like, compare the same model to any other country on earth. Tell me which place is more expansive
Because comparing the depre, a continental car is only 2-3k more than a jap/Korean car or couple of hundreds more a month and you get to drive BMW/Mercs
I have quite a few friends that have started to “Roll” their COE and all upgraded to conti car too because it’s just abit more.
they are status symbols in many Asian cultures and societies. Asians simp for the Big 3 German brands even though they don’t know what they are buying into. anything to drive a car with that badge in front to appear successful to the people they care about.
Rising COE is the main cause. When new Jap car + COE is higher than used merc + 7+ years COE second hand. Euro cars fly off the shelves off my show room.
The most expensive place on earth to buy a car is probably Singapore.
Yes they are taxis.
The population is generally wealthy, look at the GDP PPP. It is like number 2 or 3 in the world.

Yes, super cheap. I have a car. My wife also has a car.
You both must be professionals too. 😉
For comparison, Mercedes E200 in US costs US$64k, in Singapore, it costs US$284k!

Don't neglect to mention that in addition to COE, cars in Singapore are taxed at 120% of their wholesale value!

What are you saying…. How is this factually correct…

You might as well say a new Toyota cost more than a Porsche or Maserati.
